Idea for Striker’s backstory

(This contradicts canon. That’s what we do around here.)

Striker’s father, Graves, was your classic salt of the earth working class man, at least on the surface. You see, he fell into the employ of a high ranking demonic royal (let’s say… Baphomet). Running errands, taking out targets, partaking in shady deals. It was dangerous work, work that had to be kept quiet, but it kept his family feed.

One day, he was on his way home after a two week mission, and stopped to have a drink along his way. That’s when Baphomet showed up confronted him. His boss tells him he has some bad news. He prefaces by reminding him just how generous he’s been to him and his family, before explaining that his wife, Hunter, saw some shit she wasn’t supposed to. She saw too much, knew too much, she got in the way…

Graves stands, seeing red. He demands to know what happened to her. Baphomet puts a hand on his chest and tells him not to lose his head. He admits that Hunter is dead, and that he was honerable enough to do the deed himself.

All Hell broke loose, and Baphomet left so Graves could have his, “tantrum,” in peace. Graves raced home. It was eerily quiet. He called for Striker, but there was no response.

Graves stormed into his bedroom and pulled an already half askew case from under his bed. You see, when his father died, he left him his prized possession. A duel set of angelic guns. Weapons capable of killing demon royalty. Graves had tried to keep them hidden, but when he opened the case, his heart sunk. One of the two guns was missing.

He set off for Baphemet’s mansion. He slipped through the backwoods to the rear gate. Following tracks too small for the old goat to make. He slithered up to the balcony and threw the ajar glass doors. Inside, he saw Baphomet lying on the floor. His candle had been snuffed and a puddle of dark blue blood pooled around him. Standing over him, was young Striker, only 15.

Graves and Striker both heard guards rushing their way. Graves yanks Striker by the tail and pushes him towards the balcony door. He tells him to run home, but Striker is refusing to, “just run away.” The guards are getting closer, so Graves shoves Striker off the Balcony. Striker lands in the garden with a broken shoulder. He hears more guards coming, and gunfire coming from inside. In fear, he darts over the gate and through the woods, the entire time thinking to himself, “coward, coward coward…”

After shoving Striker over the balcony, Graves runs into the hall, firing at the oncoming guards. A fire fight ensues, but Graves is out numbered, and he’s only able to take down a few of them before he’s overpowered.

Graves was hung in front of crowds of imps for the crime of killing a royal. A crime he did not commit.

That was the night the ring of wrath froze over. The night young Striker lost everything.

Anyways, I'm so sorry let me answer your question. The last song I listened to was from my October 2023 driving playlist and I do believe it was The Night That The Lights Went Out In Georgia by Reba.

Which would be great for the angstiest little Huaisang based fic. Successfully killing his brother-in-law Meng Yao for cheating on Mingjue with Xichen. "cause little brother don't miss when he aims his gun."

But then Mingjue gets arrested for the murder of Xichen which was also Huaisangs doing, he just hadn't gotten to hiding the body yet.

And then Mingjue is hanged for the murder and Huaisang has to live with that guilt.

Hell yeah, if I could write for shit I'd write that one.
