Listen, I know we all have stuff to do and summer is coming up and aaaaaaaargh, but in the name of Optimus Prime I'm begging y'all to shed the habit of using descriptors like 'the shorter one' or 'the blond one' instead of using proper names.
This is a very common trope in fanfiction, and I get it, it gets so boring to write the character names over and over again. I also know it will be so hard to unlearn, don't ask me about the pain and suffering I have endured. But you have to break yourself out of this habit, because all it's doing is making your stories harder to follow and losing your readers.
Let's say you're writing an Avengers fanfic, and you've got Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor in the room together. The following scene might go a little something like this:
"We must stop Unicron," the blond one said, flexing his muscles.
"Indeed," the dark-haired one replied. "If only he weren't so handsome for a metal monster."
"Thou is speaking nonsense," the bearded man said, subtly flexing his biceps harder. "Also, who is speaking right now?"
(Yes, I did write Unicron instead of Ultron like I'm pretending not to be a nerd, shut up.)
The actual dialogue tag indicators above are nonsense, pure gibberish, and those exaggerated for effect, wouldn't it just be easier to follow if you just used names? Also, sometimes Tony's goatee is more beard-like so it's even less helpful in figuring out who's talking. Depends on what era of comics you're reading.
ANYWAY, Who is doing what is one of the most important things you need to convey. In a busy dialogue scene, in a high action scene, especially in a romance scene between two people of the same gender, clarity is key. It feels boring to write, I know. It will be a better scene in the end.
So when should you use character descriptors in your writing?
When you need to reiterate an important character feature that is either relevant to how the main character views them or how they view themselves. Example: Her brother, the soldier, the Hobbit, etc.
When you need to reiterate an important character feature to the plot. Example: The god of thunder, the stowaway, the white witch, etc.
When you have a minor character who is better defined by their job or role than there name. Example: The second mate, the boatswain, the cook, etc.
When appropriate to the scene. This one is harder to define, but if you have a quiet moment where the main character reflects on the scoundrel he has a crush on, long paragraphs of just using the name Alex might be better peppered descriptors of his personality or notable features, or - depending on your character - 'that cocky asshole.'
When shouldn't you use character descriptors? When they are boring, unhelpful, and not distinctive. Referring constantly to someone as "the taller man" or "the blonde" will come back to haunt your ass years down the road, believe me. Break free from this prison before you snap awake at 3am, haunted by the one stupid scene you can never unwrite.

That book is the exact shit OMAM Louis proofreads. 100% !! Mates Louis sent that to you. The title, the aesthetic, all of it just screams that vibe. You can’t convince me otherwise.
Ahahahahaha you’re totally right. It’s the “The Mating Habits of Scoundrels” subtitle that really sends me. Though I feel like an OMAM Louis book might have more of a pun in the title.

Hello! Happy Valentines day! I love your blog, and I’m wondering if you have recs for books with really solid friendships for the heroines? I’m rereading the wallflowers rn (my first historical series i ever read!) and I’m just delighted by how much the four of them like each other, and also how they get to do kinda silly stupid stuff together bc friends DO encourage each other to be deranged sometimes lmao
Yes! (And thank you.)
Offbeat rec, but I really love the way Lucia and Regin love each other in IAD--specifically Pleasure of a Dark Prince (Lucia's book) but in general. They're *technically* sisters, as all valkyries are, but they're really best friends and so ride or die for each other. When Lucia is like "I need to go on the run so my werewolf fated mate can't find me" Regin is all "I'm ON IT" and goes with her and helps her like, push Garreth down a ravine and attempt to crush him with cars. It's great.
The Mating Habits of Scoundrels by Vivienne Lorret has great, funny friendships. The girls are really supportive of each other, but they're also like... encouraging one another's worst fears. I think Wallflowers fans would really like this series--my favorites are The Wrong Marquess, How to Steal a Scoundrel's Heart, and Never Seduce a Duke.
Oooh The Fifth Avenue Rebels by Joanna Shupe has fabulous friendships. This is definitely a "friends encourage friends to go goblin mode" series, especially on Nellie's part. Nellie is like, always steering Maddy to cheat on her fiancee with Archer (to be fair, Nellie had.... a conflict of interest there, but she was Right) and taking Katherine to French balls to go hook up with masked men and stuff. And in her book especially, I think you really see how much she adores her friends, and how much she feels that "everyone is getting married and growing up and moving on without me" thing, which leads to a lovely friendship moment between all four.
Hell's Belles by Sarah MacLean OBVIOUSLY has an amazing girl gang that encourages women's wrongs.
Grace Callaway's Lady Charlotte's Society of Angels series by Grace Callaway has a group of crazy young vigilante girls, led by a much calmer, but secretly insane, Lady Charlotte. I just love how these girls will be like "LET'S KICK FLIP VILLAINS AND KISS BOYS".
Jennifer Ashley's first four Mackenzie books especially have really lovely, supportive friendships between the Mackenzie brides. Beth and Isabella are probably the closest, but they're all really tight and understanding of one another.
Adriana Herrera's Las Leonas series is only two books in thus far, but I've been LOVING the female friendships in that series. The women really GET each other, and I super enjoy the fact that there is like... an acknowledged bonding that goes beyond them being women in the 19th century, and goes into them being woc in a predominantly white European society especially.
And for books that have great friendships between men and women, I looove Frannie's relationships with the Scoundrels of St. James, especially Jack. Like, all these guys are a little in love with her (Jack least for sure because he actually gets that their love is platonic lol), but it's pretty quickly clear that it's like, this trauma bond situation where they actually just really GET each other and where they're coming from. So it's not like, objectifying in any way and she's more like the heart of the group, while also being great at forging things and such as that lmao.

I want to try historical romance because some of the books you blog about sounded interesting but I don't want anything too old or hard to read. I prefer books with medium spice (my favorite YA is Red White & Royal Blue and I like Elle Kennedy).
Do you have suggestions for me?
Hi! A lot of historicals in my experience fall in that "medium spice" bucket in that there are a handful of quality sex scenes sprinkled throughout the book. Of course, they're a bit more explicit than new adult books like RWRB, but still "medium spice" in my opinion. Full disclose I have not read Elle Kennedy but I've been informed as to what you can expect from her books in terms of sex stuff, so here are my recs accordingly:
Try Sarah MacLean— she's been writing HR for over a decade and her voice feels relatively contemporary while still delivering an immersive historical setting. I'd strongly recommend starting with Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake. It's all about a woman taking back control of her own life rather than succumbing to passivity, and the hero is very smooth and very very hot. And it has great fat rep.
After that, Sarah's Rule of Scoundrels series is definitely worth checking out since it introduces you to the underworld side of the subgenre as it's centered around a gambling hell. My favorites are A Rogue By Any Other Name (childhood friends who fell out, and he forcibly marries her for her land and now doesn't know what to do because Feelings) and One Good Earl Deserves A Lover (nerdy heroine seeks out gambling hell co-owner for sex lessons). If you want to get even more grittier, her Bareknuckle Bastards series is about three siblings who escape their evil father and become prizefighters in London and eventually come to "rule" the underworld. My favorite is Brazen and the Beast, which is about a businesswoman and one of the siblings (named Beast!) whose first meeting involves her finding him tied up in her carriage, them kissing, and her promptly shoving him out said carriage.
Sarah's latest Hell's Belles series has the most contemporary tone because it's about a feminist vigilante girl gang righting gender/class/race/sexuality-based wrongs of the era. My favorites in this series are Heartbreaker (a social chameleon heroine who breaks unwanted society matches and a stern brunch daddy duke who has always *seen* her), and Knockout (sunshine heroine who specializes in explosives, and a grumpy cop hero), which just came out.
Adriana Herrera writes gorgeous historical romances that feel so classic while also proving to naysayers that you can write diverse characters and settings without feeling anachronistic. A Caribbean Heiress in Paris has a Dominican heroine who is in Paris to sell rum from her distillery, and enters into a marriage of convenience with a Scottish whisky distiller.
I'd also rec Adriana's An Island Princess Starts A Scandal— it's a sapphic romance between a silver fox heroine/railway magnate and a Venezuelan heiress who asks her to take her around Parisian lesbian hotspots in exchange for land critical to a railroad.
Since you like Red, White, and Royal Blue, I'd recommend checking out K.J. Charles, who writes m/m historical romances that are humorous and have great banter while still packing suuuuch an emotional punch. The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen is about a baronet who finds himself being blackmailed by his smuggler ex-hook-up, but end up working together. A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel is the next book in the series and comes out September 19th— it's a romance between a new earl and the smuggler-secretary he hires, and I'm obsessed (here is my review).
Vivienne Lorret's Mating Habits of Scoundrels series also deliver on the humor and banter along with girl gang shenanigans and great romances. My favorites are My Kind of Earl (a nerdy heroine/bit o'rough hero with a side of beetroot bombs) and How to Steal a Scoundrel's Heart (the heroine is "ruined" and agrees to be the hero's mistress except, well, Feelings).
Also! If you want to try out the genre by starting with novellas, Alexandra Vasti's Halifax Hellions series is free if you subscribe to her newsletter. It has all the hits spread out across three books: best friend's brother who's secretly in love with the heroine, an older, kinky hero who hates himself for wanting to "corrupt" a heroine who absolutely wants it, and a heroine who makes up a husband for Reasons only to find out that he's real... and she must fake-marry him.

Reading Vivienne Lorret’s Misadventures in Matchmaking after Mating Habits of Scoundrels is a bit like watching Star Wars in release order and it’s the fall of Anakin Skywalker except instead of a magic space murder happy Sith Lord it’s Daniel Prescott who I first met as Meg’s dumb ex boyfriend but apparently before he was just a sweet guy that was jilted and heartbroken
And now I have to sit and decide how I feel about this because I really liked Daniel?! Only to find out he’s that Daniel?!?!? 😭

"BENN!" Shanks voice was loud as he called for his first mate, a light slur in his voice already from the amount of alcohol he had consumed throughout the evening. "BECK! C'MON! WHERE ARE YOU?" It couldn't be that he couldn't find the man. It was New Years Eve! And the redhead was on a mission. Benn would not get away without a kiss to celebrate for sure.
A wide grin appears on his face when he finally spots the person he had been searching for. He is quick to cover the distance between them. "There you are! I've been searching for you the whole time!" He wraps his arm around his first mate and pulls him in for a quick kiss against his lips. "Happy new years Beck."
Benn wouldn't call himself a vain man, but he wouldn't call himself entirely humble either. He enjoyed moments like these, having a beautiful woman hanging off his words. They seemed to enjoy the way words waxed poetic off his tongue. His polite words, observants of their beauty and just a slight taste of the raunch that reminded them the man whose attention they held was a scoundrel of the rumored worst sorts was enough to earn a night together.
Women liked the well-spoken bad boy, it turned out.
BENN!
"Pardon me, my dear. My captain calls." None of those words were chosen on accident either. He never missed how the women he flattered swooned with the peek into his habits of servitude. Being a captain was hot. Being a first mate? Arguably hotter. At least for his purposes.
"Glad to see you've enjoyed the drinks, Captain." Of course he enjoyed the drinks. If there was one thing the Red Hair Pirates refused to do it was cheap out on the alcohol. "I'm surprised you can still see straight enough to tell I'm here-"
And then the kiss happened. He wasn't surprised, with how his captain's words had slurred and the gaiety that had infiltrated the party. A New Years kiss. His hand cupped over Shanks' cheek, he returned the kiss before pulling away.
"Happy new years, Shanks. May our ship stay afloat, and our alcohol reserves never run dry." Except for the vermouth.

The Wrong Marquess: The Mating Habits of Scoundrels #3 by Vivienne Lorret
The Wrong Marquess: The Mating Habits of Scoundrels #3 by Vivienne Lorret @AvonBooks #AvonAddict @VivLorret
Vivienne Lorret comes to the blog with the third book in her series, The Mating Habits of Scoundrels with The Wrong Marquess Having read the first two in this series, I simply adore Lorret’s ‘scoundrels’ and find that the women they ultimately choose to marry (and have fallen in love with) are equal in intelligence, bravado and boldness to the men. Now, in this book we have Elodie’s story:…

Hey. I want to read more historical romance. After the Bridgerton series, what do you recommend? Are there any good authors or series I can try. I am new to this genre...
Yay historical romps recs!!!
Okay so obviously tastes vary when it comes to romance so just to let you know, personally I found I lean more towards romance books that have a more romcom-y, humorous and banter-filled tone. If you liked the Bridgerton series you'll probably enjoy them as well.
If you found enjoyed the Bridgerton family dynamic you should start some other Julia Quinn series. Her older ones (pre Bridgerton) aren't really my thing as they have a very different style, but I adored her later series. They all take place within the same universe too so again if you loved the Bridgertons that will be an extra treat for you!
The Smythe-Smith Quartet which follows four Smythe-Smith cousins (special shoutout to The Sum of All Kisses because it simply stole my heart)
The Rokesbys which is a prequel series to the Bridgertons
The Bevelstoke Trilogy (though I'd stir clear of the first book...the second and third are amazing though, and as with all Regency romances they're standalones)
How to Marry A Marquis
Then you should definitely give Tessa Dare a go. Her books have a hilariously modern vibe and are a total treat to read.
The Spindle Cove series is a must (my personal favourites: A Week to be Wicked and A Lady by Midnight)
Castles Ever After (When a Scot Ties the Knot stands out for me because I have a weakness for Scottish/English romance!)
Girl Meets Duke
Julie Anne Long's Pennyroyal Green series is worth a go as well. Her books can be a hit or miss, but I definitely recommend these:
Like No Other Lover
What I Did For A Duke
How the Marquess was Won
It Started with a Scandal
The Legend of Lyon Redmond
After Dark With the Duke
Vivienne Lorret is another author I enjoyed a lot who has a couple of good series:
The Mating Habits of Scoundrels (Lord Holt Takes a Bride being my personal favourite)
Wallflower Weddings (favourite book: Finding Miss McFarland)
Misadventures in Matchmaking
The Rakes of Fallow Hall (especially The Elusive Lord Everhart)
Steicy Reid's When the Earl Met his Match is a great read (and it features a deaf male lead!) and you may like Sabrina Jeffries' Hellions of Halstead Hall that also revolves around siblings like the Bridgerton books. Lenora Bell is worth a go too (If I Only Had a Duke is pretty good).
Another author that I didn't really love but many do and whose style is close to Julia Quinn is Eloisa James.
Now if you prefer more plot heavy, angstier books:
Lisa Kleypas' Wallflowers series (the historical context being Victorian rather than Regency) is pretty much iconic among historical romance lovers. Kleypas isn't really my cup of tea but I enjoyed it overall, though I deeply hated the third book (which is pretty much everyone's favourite in the entire genre!). My favourites were It Happened One Autumn (though TW: there is a dubcon sex scene pretty similar to that of Bridgerton's The Duke and I, except the genders are reversed) and Scandal in Spring. If you enjoy Kleypas' writing, she has tons of romances (Suddenly You is a pretty good one), including a sort of sequel series to the Wallflowers.
Sarah MacLean is also loved by fans and is closer to Lisa Kleypas rather than Julia Quinn. Again, not really my thing, but Eleven Scandals to Steal a Duke's Heart wasn't bad.
Kerrygan Bern's Victorian Rebels series is really good (I loved The Highlander).
Loretta Chase is a popular one as well, particularly Lord of Scoundrels, but personally I didn't like it so I didn't give any other book of hers a go.
If you prefer books which are pretty light in sex scenes and more historically accurate you need to read Mary Balogh! She's a great writer and probably the most period accurate author I've come across. Her Bedwyn Saga focuses on family like the Bridgerton books, following a Bedwyn sibling per book (Slightly Dangerous, which is the last installment, is amazing)
If you're more into American rather than British history, though I can't give you any personal recommendations since it doesn't really appeal to me, I've heard that Beverly Jenkins is pretty great.
Regency authors I haven't read yet but I've seen recommended a lot: Elizabeth Hoyt, Connie Brockway, Courtney Milan, Olivia Waite and of course Georgette Heyer aka the original Regency romance writer.
(The above recommendations are basically historical romps, but if what you're looking for is more serious historical fiction I must recommend Sarah Waters, she writes the most incredible lesbian love stories!)

Congratulations 💕 Can I have Yami+🔥 please? 💕
Christmas Mystery Prompts 1/5
Prompt: 🔥 Cuddles by the fireplace
Pairing: Yami Sukehiro x reader
Notes: this is my first time writing Yami so I really hope it’s decent enough as I did my best!
Rating: PG, as all of my things are, just some fluffy time with the captain of the black bulls
Yet another cold and chilly morning.Nothing was new when winter had just now arrived in the clover kingdom, temperatures were dropping, snow was falling from the sky and piling up on the ground as the holidays were quickly approaching.
The black bulls were quite eager to decorate and get everything set up, even Henry made some accommodations for everyone’s comfort and warmth. To get even more into the Christmas spirit. The tree was up and decorated, assorted lights inside and outside the base, even the fireplace had stockings with a few of your squad mates names on them, including your own. Things were quite festive to say the least!
The morning started off quite calm, sitting down on the couch by the fireplace. you sipped a cup of warm coffee in your hands, having a blanket wrapped around you to keep the warmth from the fire flowing as it was chilly after all. The calming atmosphere of it being chilly along with the hot chocolate, the blanket and the fire keeping you warm was nice.
At least the morning was nice and calm before the rest of the squad awoke, or had finished Breakfast, the regular ol chaos soon filling the common room. It was nothing new to you as you were used to everyone acting how they acted, the black bulls wouldn’t be such a family without them after all.
Everyone was at their own usual shenanagins, No sight of the captian just yet, otherwise known as your lover.
Although he was known as a intimidating, rugged scoundrel, leader of the worst magic knights squad out there with a bad reputation, which the intimidating and rugged part were true, he was quite a softie when it came to you. Maybe a small ( or not so small) stubborn pain in the ass, sure but he loves you, you love him and that’s all that is needed to be known.
Wondering the whereabouts of the captian in question, speak of the devil he’s already making his way over to you, sitting down on the couch with a cigarette already in hand, you sighed and smiled.
“Well, good morning Captain- can’t get your hands off a cigarette for even these early morning hours ?“ You spoke with a smile, Yami taking a puff of the cigarette in his hand.
“You have to be so formal? You act like we aren’t a couple sometimes-“ He laughed. “But throw me a bone here would ya. You waste your oxygen nagging about my smoking habit. Could use it to y’know- say I love you instead-“ he took a pause in his words. “Christ it’s cold-“
You simply looked at the man and chuckled at his remarks, the remarks you’d love to hear since it was a staple of classic Yami. “Well, if you prefer I say something else, then I love you Yami.” You took another sip of your hot chocolate, your lover giving you a slight smirk.
“That’s always nice to hear from ya. I love you t-“ Of course in a small soft moment he had to be interrupted.
“Yami! Captian- sir-“
Safe to say Yami had suddenly gotten pissed off by a certian light grey haired boy, grabbing him by the head as he stood up.
“Damnit kid! What have I told you about ruining moments?!”
Asta groaned and shrieked “SORRY SIR! OW! OW OW!” He whined before being dropped, Yami looking at him. “Whaddya want anyway?”
Asta rubbed his head. “Well I was wondering if we could go out in the snow?”
Yami shrugged. “Sure, whatever- just wear a scarf, maybe mittens- a jacket or sweater too, I don’t care. but just don’t catch a cold or I’ll kill you and your squad mates asses-“ Yami spoke nonchalantly as he continued to smoke his cigarette.
“Thank you captain Yami!” Asta spoke happily before quickly running off to get outside “YEAHHHH SNOWBALL FIGHT!”
You let out a chuckle as Yami let out a groan.
“There he goes, as energetic and happy as usual-“ The comment left your lips before taking another sip of the hot chocolate in your mug, it seemed as though the rest of the squad was on board with the boys’ idea as they also were eager and followed him outside, you peered over to your lover.
“You don’t want to join them?”
Yami then put out his cigarette. “I’d be all for throwing snow balls at them, but nah. They can have their fun.” He then grabbed the mug from out of your hands, placing it down on the table.
“Yami, I was drinking.. that-“ You spoke as he wrapped his strong arms around you, bringing you close to him.
“I’ll make ya more later, don’t get yourself all stressed about it.” A small grin took place on his face as you wrapped your arms around him in return, making you both just a bit closer.
“This is nice-“ you smiled. He was quite warm, being in his arms was so comforting you could swear if you closed your eyes for long enough you would fall asleep.
“Even by the fire with a blanket you looked chilly-“ he spoke nonchalantly, hiding the fact that he simply wanted your attention so he’d give you his in exchange for that.
“Thank you my love.” You gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, nuzzling yourself further into him as you snaked a hand into his hair to play with it, Yami smiling as he got and was getting the attention he wouldn’t say out loud that he wanted.
For a few rare moments there was silence other than muffled shouting from the outside. No interruptions, no loud screaming or ruckus, just you and Yami snuggled up together and enjoying the warmth. Nothing but pure silence in a loving moment.
“Finally no interruptions for once-“ Yami spoke up, caressing your cheek as he gave you a soft smile which you returned before leaving a soft kiss on your lips, relaxing his whole body, letting out a small satisfied groan as it seemed he was about to drift off to sleep.
“Sleepy?” You chuckled, relaxing yourself as you were just about to join him in that, only to not get a response and hear light snoring as he knocked out right there. You sighed with a smile still present on your face, closing your eyes and letting the laziness and comfort take you into the realm of sweet dreams.

Ocean Eyes, or Something More?
A/N: Lowkey hate this, I rushed the ending and ijfbvfvbf, I wanna rewrite it! But I hope you enjoy this anyways. I’ll be posting more soon promise.
However! Enjoy another beautiful server prompt for mha & readers discord server! I’ll be posting the masterlist later today, so keep a watch for that!!
Pairing: Commodore!aka Officer!Bakugou Katsuki x Pirate!Fem!Reader
The spray of the sea landed upon your face; licking your lips at the assault, you were pleased to find the bitter sting of salt because of it. The smell of the water contradicted its taste, the sweet aroma of the waves still one of many that you haven’t gone nose blind to. The never ending blue surrounding you above and below was an almost blinding sight, yet there was never another sight you would rather gaze at. Never could another place hold itself so dearly in your heart such as this. This was your life; a life of freedom and honor, as much honor as a born and bred pirate could scrape together anyways.
The winds that blew against the durable sails urged your beauty of a ship forward, closer to the destination you were seeking. You kept your excitement at bay, knowing that this mission you’ve taken upon yourself was that of great importance.
“Cap’n, we be close to the shores of Sinehpor, the rest await yer orders.” Your right hand breaks your thoughts, and you glance over at him.
Kirishima was a fine second mate, brave and upheld your honor more than anyone else ever had. A true man you trusted by your side, trusted with your life. You granted his presence with a nod, eyes going back to scan your crew.
“Thank ye, Kirishima. Have everyone prepare for shore, tis will be a night o’ drinkin’ for em all.”
“Aye, already done, Cap’n.” He grinned, motioning to the members preparing the sails and locking up some of the more precious items below deck.
“Good,” you glance over the waters to spot the shoreline approaching the distance, “Ye already know why we be here, Kirishima.”
“Aye, the true reason. We be sure to get that map from the scoundrel. This be one of the biggest hauls yet, Cap’n.”
“So it shall,” you laugh heartily before raising your voice for everyone to hear, “Avast! All hands hoay me hearties, we be sailin’ into the docks of Sinehpor. Ye be knowin’ what that means!”
The cheers and happiness was contagious, goodwill spreading all along the ship. You nod at Kirishima as he went below to help the rest.
Tonight your men would be destroying their livers on the finest rum they could get a hold of, reaping the benefits of land after their time on the ship without rest. You had finished up a job, and were now without much purpose other than sailing. With your mates growing antsy for more work, and you itching for a new conquest, you figured it’d be beneficial to kill two birds with one stone.
Sinehpor was a well known trading dock that many came to for more than just their merchant carts; Sinehpor was also known to have some of the finest taverns and festivals, seen as more of a party district than one of trading. However, that title was swept under the rug, trading as a front to stay out of too much trouble from the royal navy and their annoying habits to shut down anything that was deemed fun. You've had your run in with the royal navy more than once, nothing more than a capture, since you always managed to escape before they could do anything more than that.
You maneuvered your ship to a bare part of the port, docking your ship as you prepared to descend the ship. Making sure to give your crew a knowing look, silently commanding them to not seek out too much trouble, before letting them depart. You were the last to walk down the plank board, Kirishima waiting faithfully at the bottom for you. Your sea legs were noticeable as you walked towards the keeper, putting on an indifferent face as he gaped at your figure.
You understood, receiving this look on more than one account, while female pirates were rare they were still a thing; a female captain on the other hand was almost unthinkable to most.
“It’s one shilling to dock, uh, ma’am.”
You reach for your cloth bag while maintaining eye contact, pulling out more than what was asked for, throwing the shillings onto his record book. You tip your head slowly, captain hat proudly atop your head as it followed your motions. You stroll away, smirk taking over as you hear him mumble a random name for the records.
Your name wasn’t something you gave away so freely, not even your given name;
Diablo.
The legendary devil who roams the waters with ‘his’ crew born straight from hell. Well, that’s what they say anyways. There was not a man alive who hadn’t heard the tale of Diablo and ‘his’ deadly crew, who always got away with the fastest ship there was. Your ship, Hell Born Serpent, wasn’t given names on false pretenses. It was the fastest ship you have ever encountered, it’s shape helped its speed and agility in the water, ‘snaking’ through the water before disappearing from view. There was no one alive who wanted to go head to head with your crew, not a sane one anyways. You yourself had fought tooth and nail to gain your own title of legend, and you would continue fighting to your death.
Speaking of legends, you focused your mind on your purpose here. You had heard prior that an old acquaintance, of yours would still be here by this time. That he’d be taking residence for a short time before moving on again, sneaky old rouge. With these rumors around of his whereabouts, you were sure he could be gone any day, so you had to make sure you caught him before he did. He had what you wanted, what would give you work and make an even bigger name for you and your crew.
The map to Eazam Island itself, the one and only island of bone that was foretold to be full of riches beyond a man's wildest dreams. They say it’s just one of legend, a story for weary sailors, but what is another legend under your belt? If there was to be anyone to snatch the gold and live to boast of the easy capture, well that would only be your crew of course.
You both reached a bar you knew well, hidden among other buildings but still one of quite busy, the dim lights and smells of food and drink bringing back memories of past adventures.
A wild set of raven hair quickly catches your attention, and your smirk widens. You wave off Kirishima, allowing him to wander off to a table and relax with a pint; although you were sure he would do no such thing, opting to watch over the interaction in case of foul play. You dearly hope a barmaid will draw his attention away and let him have some fun, what good would it be to have come here if he didn’t.
Another catches your attention, making eye contact with one of your crew mates as he lifts a mug in salute to you, drowning it in one go. His eyes grow hazy and face flush before he barks out a laugh, pulling two barmaids closer to his side with a giggle in his voice, their faces heating up while they fall for his charms. That was your very own Denki of the Dames, a hit with the ladies sure, but as you take one final glance to see his slurred words and wobbly stature…
You knew he should have been called lightweight instead, he was always three sheets to the wind after two measly grogs.
You see a few others sitting together, their names definitely matching: Abyss eyed Ashido, the bat of her eyes said to hypnotize anyone she wishes, and Quick Slip Sero, who you did trust wholeheartedly to get out of any sticky situation. You merely called them their names, not out of disrespect but for that of fondness. Each member was your family, and you made it known to them all.
You turn away from them, licking your lips in anticipation as you keep your sights locked onto your main target. You saunter towards your prey, taking the spot directly next to him at the bar.
“I was wonderin’ when you’d show, doll. Your lackies aren’t the most subtle, ya know.”
“Sorry to keep ye waitin’, inferno.” You tap the bar for a drink, ignoring the way your company clicks his tongue at the name. You nod at the bartender, slugging back a few gulps before peering over the rim of the mug to see blue eyes piercing into your soul. Blue like your beloved waters, but these were nothing in comparison to the beauty you saw daily.
“How many times will ya insist on calling me that wretched name, Diablo.”
“I think it suits ye pretty well, don’t ye think?”
“I never asked to be called-”
“Neither did I mine, yet here we be. Two ol salts drinkin’ in a measly pub together, wit names neither wan. So cut the hostility, Dabi, an jus drink yer rum before I do.”
He hummed, voice cutting deep and reminding you of forbidden nights shared together, before taking a drink of his own cup.
The noises of the rowdy bar infiltrated your ears, however silence between the two of you louder than that. You weren’t one to beat around the bush, so you broke the silence and went in for the kill.
“Now, why don’ ye be nice an’ help me get me hands on that map, ha?”
“What map is that, doll.”
“Map to Eazam, what else.”
“Hm, now, what kind of place would that be.”
You sent a glare through the corner of your eye, deadly (e/c) meeting haughty blue.
“Don’ be testing me now, Dabi. Best ye spill it before I grow angry.”
The tension was thick, neither stare wavering as you both tried to win a silent match. Stormy seas and cannon fire filled a single share look, till Dabi grunted and looked down into his drink.
“Who even says I have it to give it to ya, Diablo.”
“Ye always have what i’m lookin’ for, Inferno.”
“Oh,” his smirk grew, tongue trailing between parted lips, “I do, ay? Maybe you can give me what I always be looking for, then.”
“We ended that a long time ago, don’ be startin’ things ye know is impossible.” You hiss, annoyed at his diversion.
“This could also be something considered impossible, ya know.” Dabi chuckled, finishing his drink before throwing enough for the tab.
“Ye know me crew and I are the impossible, Inferno. You’ll get yer cut for the map, of course. I’m not cruel.” You grin wickedly, spilling your own pockets for the rum as you drown the rest, slamming the cup atop the counter.
His eyes rolled at yoru dramatics, glaring at the redhead across the bar.
“I see ol’ second rate still watches you like a lost seadog searching for land.”
You raise your chin, telling Kirishima to stay put as he glared at the man beside you. He nodded at your request, staying put as you both made your way to the back entrance of the pub.
“Watch the way ye be talkin’ about my right hand, Inferno.”
“Aye, of course Cap’n.” He mocks, the back door closing behind him as you both walk down the empty alley.
Dabi takes you a few ways away, back towards the docks as he heads towards his own ship-nothing as extravagant as your own. As soon as you both are to board the ship, a whistle puts you both on guard.
You glance behind you to see two naval sailors, both men watching the two of you.
“Pardon the intrusion, all docks are to be cleared until ship inspection is over.” The one with dark hair speaks up, a formal voice for a formal guard.
“Sirs, ship inspection? There is no such thing, if I may be so bold.” Dabi speaks out, voice taut as his hands itch to grab his pistol.
You send him a sharp glare, knowing any wrong moves could blow this whole situation out of the waters. The men take in both of your attire, and you hold back a scoff at the judgment in their eyes. All naval personnel were the same, there was only one man who granted you a judgment free stare. You haven’t seen him in years, and you hoped you never would. He was the best commanding officer they had, if you were to be caught by him it was over.
“We are inspecting to make sure all ships that are documented are present, and there are none without the proper paperwork. That is all.” The cool voice of the second sailor spoke out, his scar on his left eye giving hint that these men were no pushovers.
“There will be no trouble, we were just leaving.” Your voice commanded, motioning Dabi to follow as you attempted to walk past the two men.
They seemed to also want no trouble, letting you walk by until a booming voice halted all movement.
“Who are these people walking along the docks, can you two do your jobs properly?!” The snarling tone captivated you, yet you felt all of that leave as soon as a hand grabbed your upper arm.
You were quickly spun, red hot gaze burning into your own. You couldn’t help your eye twitching in annoyance, and that only seemed to set him off. He looked you up and down, gaze still on you as he spoke out to the others.
“You were just about to let a couple of pirates walk off, you imbeciles.”
“Pirates? Ye must be mistaken,” you say coolly, trying to remove his hold on you, “We be here for the fine tradin’ posts, of course.”
Strong jaw clenches, and his warm hands grab at you harder till he forcefully moves your sleeve up. The two scars that circled your wrist and branded you as a pirate were now in plain view, your tattoo resting right above it. You sigh, annoyed more than anything with all of the manhandling.
“Trading posts, of course.” His snide and mocking tone pissed you off more.
Guns were drawn, and you knew there was no way you could ever dodge those.
“Come now gentlemen, we don’t want any unnecessary blood spilling, do we?” A cool smirk came from your companion, and the man holding you quickly grabbed Dabi’s arm to check for his pirate mark as well.
“Seems you’re not one of them. I suggest you leave before I charge you as an accomplice.”
Dabi mock bowed before stepping away, hands up in false surrender as he did.
You expected nothing more from the coward, the man may not be considered a pirate but he surely acts as one.
However, he was more shady than he was worth.
“Ye rat bastard-”
“I would be quiet now, pirate. I hereby arrest you on accounts of treason against the crown.”
“If ye shall be adressin’ me, ye shall do it properly. It be Cap’n to the likes of ya.” You huff, glaring at the guns still pointed at your head.
You had no chance of taking 3 men on alone, especially now that Dabi had left. You’d just have to wait it out, see what these men were capable of and then escape accordingly.
“Captain?” The sailor with glasses gaped, and you turn with a smug smile.
“Aye, ye have never seen a woman cap’n before, ha?”
“Woman or not, a pirate is a pirate. Captain…” The blonde holding onto you gazed at your tattoo, only to have his eyes widen.
“What is it, Bakugou.” The one with the scar spoke out, causing this Bakugou to stare at you.
“You’re el Diablo.”
It was a statement rather than a question, and you shrug indifferently before pulling your arm from his hold. Instantly feeling the breeze cooling the warm skin he once held.
“Diablo? He’s said to be well, a man.”
“Does she look like a man to you?” Bakugou snarled, annoyed as he tugged cuffs from his waist.
“Oh,” your eyes scan the item, “Commodore, I don’ think this be the best time for ye to try anything like that out on me. Not until i get a couple o’ grogs in me system first.”
You speak suggestively, wincing as he clamps on the cuffs tight. The dug into your skin painfully, cold metal feeling like flames on your wrist.
“Watch your tongue, Captain. I may just cut it off.”
You were then dragged by the man to the naval ship, a large one with the name ‘Queens Jewel’ painted along the side. Forced up on the deck, you felt the stares of different official sailors. You keep a smirk on your lips, not trying to give more than needed.
A hand dug itself into your shoulder as you were forced below, a row of cell blocks coming into view. You glance for keys, or any sort of escape, but red meets your wandering (e/c).
“You wont find anything in here, my crew isn’t as stupid as you might believe.”
“On the contrary, I don’ believe yer crew is stupid. I believe that to be all ye, commodore.”
He growled, grabbing you by the front of your coat as he raised you closer to his face.
“I believe you have no room to talk here, pirate.”
This was the first time you had gotten a close look at the man, he was large and burly, truly someone worthy of his title. Light battle scars littered his face, very faint and from probably nothing more than just training. His blond hair was the opposite of what you assumed a proper commodore should have; instead of neat and kept, it was wild and untamed-as was the apparent temper he had. His eyes intrigued you the most, the opposite of your calming blue seas, this man's eyes were a storming red. There was a feel of harshness, yet justice. Anger, yet levelheadedness. His eyes were contradicting, the color of a sunset reflecting off the blue shores below.
What a sight indeed.
“Now now, best ye be not doin’ anything ye shall regret, ay.”
“I will regret nothing, it’s my personal joy to watch the scum of the seas get what they deserve.”
He tossed you harshly into the cell, locking it up before scrunching his nose at you. You return the sentiment, your playful facade dropped as a menacing scowl appears.
“Scum of the seas? Ye be one to talk, all ye be is a pawn of the queen. We ‘scum’ have morals, ye do not.”
“Hah? Morals, in a pirate?” He scoffs.
“Aye, a pirate lives by the code of which their forefathers have written with their own blood and souls. Ye follow the deranged orders of a madwoman who cares nothing about the people below ‘er.” You scoot back, leaning your back against the wall of the cell.
You fully expected the man, who was called Bakugou if you remembered correctly, to up and leave. To call you a dirty pirate before storming away from the cell. You felt the ship move beneath you as it began to sail off, so surely they needed him to call out commands to his crew of misfits. However, to your surprise he had sat on a crate by the bars, watching you intently. You meet his gaze, unafraid to look into his cool-hellfire eyes.
“The queen is a woman who does what she can for the people. It’s you pirates who pillage and kill, not us. We follow orders because they keep commoners safe.”
“Who do ya think we be, monsters!? We may be lookin’ out for our own, but if ye give a snake a reason to strike, strike it shall. Ye leave it be, it shall grant ye the same respect of that which it be given. Pirates respect those who be deserving.”
“And we don’t.”
“No.”
The waves brushing along the sides of the ship and the creaking of the motions soothed your temper, you closed your eyes and let your head fall back against the wall. Hoping this conversation was over. There was no navy sailor who you have ever come across who was worthy of your respect, this man was not going to be one of them either it seemed. Although, the brash attitude from early looked to be faded, a blunt yet calm one in its place. Contradicting once again, just like his eyes.
Your own snapped opened as you heard him stand, watching as he narrowed his gaze in thought.
“Tch. For a pirate who makes claims they sail the open waters, you appear to be sheltered. Where has your false sense come from.”
“It not be false,” you whisper, eyes closing once more as memories surface, “it be real, whether ye believe me or not is none of my business. I don’ trust ye to keep your mouth shut anyways.”
“Fair enough, however it is a pirate you cannot trust. I will never forget my lessons. You have your own reasons, and I have mine. I know first hand of the damage you pirates can do, I won’t stand for it.” You heard him speak through clenched teeth.
“Then sit, yer head be full of lies”
“It is you whose words are false and based on only personal gain.”
“A man of the queen may not keep their word, but a man of the sea shall, commodore.”
“Well, you can believe I shall keep my word on this: your end is soon, Captain Diablo. You have nowhere to run, and you shall be put to death for your crimes.”
His footsteps begin to fade, his voice echoing in your head as he leaves.
“Soon enough the one who be telling the truth will be laughin’. Dead men tell no tales, Commodore. Yet neither will a lost man, ya see.” You laugh to yourself, not hearing a reply as he leaves the room.
A few hours go by and you are visited once more by the intriguing man, a tray of food in his hands. You make no move to go towards it as he slides it in, eyes still closed and body still in the same position as he left.
He sighed in annoyance, and you could only help but smirk.
“What’s with the look, you halfwit.”
The seas rock with more force, the boat swaying more as if a storm was coming forth. Then it happened, the sounds of fighting happening above, causing Bakugou to curse out in question.
“Ye see commodore,” Your eyes flutter open, grinning evilly as he stared back with anger and confusion, “tis as i said, a lost man will tell no tales. I am to be lost, ye have no hopes of finding me.”
Then the door leading to the cellar room burst open, and you promised yourself you would never forget that look of terror and hatred in those bright sea-ruby eyes. You have never cared for another color other than your seas, often trying to find replacements, with no luck. Yet, while they weren’t as pretty as your blue ocean below you, they were just good enough that you’ve found yourself hoping to see them again.

What books by Vivienne Lorret would you recommend me?
I haven't ready tooo many yet (The Mating Habits of Scoundrels series and her latest), but she has some really strong entries. I'd definitely recommend (and in this order, ideally, because they standalone but fold into each other in a fun way):
The Wrong Marquess. In this one, the heroine has been pining for a LOSER best friend guy who basically promised her when they were younger that once he was done sowing his wild oats he'd settle down and marry her. So she's basically purposefully kept herself on the shelf, waiting, and the time seems Near. Then she meets this other girl and they become fast friends, but the heroine and the girl's older brother hATE each other. Like, just bad impressions all around, they're both super snarky, there are many digs. But of course, as they spend more time together, he becomes fucking OBSESSED. Like, he would drink her bathwater. He watches her eat ice cream and fantasizes about licking the bowl after she's done to like, catch stray saliva or some gross shit. Which, obviously, I love. It's a really good "hero slowly becomes entrapped by his own dumbassery" book, and I also really love a novel wherein there's this other loser guy who's always been like "oh, she's reliable, she's great, I'll get around to her eventually" whereas the hero is wants to climb inside her guts and live in them and shit. Like, that is what should've happened with Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, but whatever.
How to Steal a Scoundrel's Heart. My first Lorret, and I fucking love it. I fucking! Love it! quoth Logan Roy. The heroine in this one is ruined, and in the beginning this marquess who's known for being super cool and a major scoundrel type offers her the position of his mistress. And it is, like, a job--with a strict four-month contract, an allowance, and this sick severance package that will set her up for a good while. Which. HOT. She initially refuses, and unlike Some Romance Heroes he's like "that's all good" because it's not as if he has feelings for her, he's a big Can't Love hero. Then, after realizing she can't hack it, she shows up at his door all "I'm game" and he tells the other lady who was gonna sign the contract "I'm sorry, here's the severance anyway" and makes our heroine his mistress. Obviously, despite him being incapable of love, he is cuddling her while she has her period within like. Two weeks or something.
Never Seduce a Duke. I loooove this one. The heroine (little sister of The Wrong Marquess's hero) is sort of resigned to spinsterhood, and she's gonna make the most of it. So she goes on this big tour of Europe with her spinster aunts (and also! Love that spinsterhood is shown to be this thing that can be fun, actually, and also love that the first half this book is basically spent on vacation, because people did have vacations in the 1800s and I wanna see more). While there, she meets this duke who's super nerdy and wears glasses but is also a MAN y'know, and he's obsessed with this Arthurian cookbook his family has passed down for generations (yes). And then the cookbook goes missing right after they meet, and he thinks SHE stole the cookbook, so he begins pursuing her across the Continent, and she doesn't even know what's going on beyond them being super into each other. And she gets. A major. Souvenir. From her travels.

Releases on March 28th
Summary:
Lady Gertrude is a pillar of the ton and stuck in an unhappy marriage. She wants to give her debutante daughter Delia more freedom on the marriage mart but her profligate husband has already decided on a spouse for their daughter. Said choice, Jasper Thorne, is the man who propositioned Tru before he knew she was his bride-to-be's mother... and it goes from there.
Some background:
Listen, I know Sophie. I love Sophie. I've read nearly everything Sophie's ever written. My favorites so far have been the books featuring the Langley sisters, the Debutante Files series, and of course her seminal masterpiece of a Texan ex-con series, Devil's Rock. They were hot. Which is why I was surprised that The Countess did not have the follow-through in terms of sex that I was expecting. Like, there were three chapters solely dedicated to Jasper propositioning Tru, not to mention both these characters are not virgins, so I was definitely expecting more time dedicated to sex.
The book I was most inclined to compare this to based on the premise was Sophie's The Scandal of it All, in which the heroine gets with her step-son's best friend. To me, the joke was that Graciela was suuuuper *scandalized* with herself for wanting someone six whole years younger than her. I thought the age gap was negligible at the time so when I read the premise of The Countess, I hoped the age gap would be greater as this is a mother and her daughter's suitor. But alas, it was only four years when I feel like it could have been... more. Like, we really could have sold the "older woman-younger man" thing here, but it didn't happen 🤷🏻♀️.
My review:
Tru and Jasper's chemistry was present right off the bat with their darkened garden encounter, and it grew into something true and honest regardless of them having to hide their attraction. Jasper was there for Tru in ways her husband never was. That being said, I finished this book, I couldn't help but feel that the ending was super abrupt and very deus ex machina in resolving loose ends. I'd seen Tru and Jasper's relationship developing, but it wasn't quite there, you know? Maybe a couple more clandestine encounters (yes that includes more sex), and a more firm realization of her love for him would have done the deal.
The sex:
What we did get in terms of sex almost felt like an afterthought— make no mistake it was well written (thought I do think the kissing scenes conveyed more passion), but none of them (two of them?) were particularly noteworthy. There was a scene where parlor games were practically (unwittingly) foreplay, which I wholeheartedly approve of. I feel like people forget parlor games with kissing were A Thing back in the day, which is unfortunate, especially consider the potential of games called "Kiss the Candlestick".
Review (continued):
I think the problem was that there was way too much time devoted to just how *dastardly* Tru's husband was. She could easily have removed excess passages on how much of a drunk, lecher, glutton, terrible father, etc. he was in order to focus on our actual love interest, Jasper. Additionally, there were a lot of POVs outside Tru and Jasper's. I think Sophie wanted to introduce the full cast of characters, especially those who will be featured in upcoming books, but that came at the cost of somewhat neglecting her main couple.
Outside the romance, I did appreciate the focus on female friendship. It's similar to what I said about Sabrina Jeffries' upcoming book, except in this case, it's friendship between a bunch of disenchanted older women— which is fun. The sneak-peak into the next heroine's book definitely seems fun. Between Joanna Shupe's Fifth Avenue Rebel series, and Vivienne Lorret's Mating Habits of Scoundrels series, I think this is becoming something of a trend, and definitely one I can get behind.
Overall, I did expect more from Sophie in terms of romance and the sex, but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt for this series as a whole.
Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my review.

HOOKS + OOCLY, I AM –––– (Below cut)
HOOKS –––-
◘ Mystical Journey - Meet Captain who’s rebuilding towards something on a scale higher than the skies that’s far beyond himself. Whether friendships forged, romantic, rival, or outright enemy. Open to plot about just anything whether one-shot, or slice of life. Each confrontation and connection is impactful and holds weight that determines and shapes him, his source of power by himself is extremely low but the wind and orbit of who he’s surrounded swells and creates upon him alongside them or with that fact, he may overcame the impossible multiple times, even his goal of deemed ultimus. He’s lustful, prideful, sinful. Though there’s good in his scoundrel ways and also freely can be interpreted as evil against the pure heart. From descendants to nearly wherever sea’s may touch he can be found voyaging too or from. Depending on the City-State there’s more mystery surrounding him due to him trying to remain under the radar but he’s also pretty brash, open, which can net him in infinite chaos and trouble. This dark and often cursed seemingly lifestyle he’s thrown under sometimes he also needs to be in the company of innocent and light, peaceful individuals. To remain humane and stay on track of him straying from being the problem. Many lives have died under his company, many lessons and time’s he’s ‘wrecked’’ the smallest and few encounters overall tally and aid him with building his compassionate side to see those people again. ◘ Scourges - The worst of the worst pirate crew’s. They command various levels of commandment, control, conquering all that is blue and water-bound. Each hold their own vendetta and thoughts on what being a pirate or their own treasure ‘sake’ they wish to lay ownership. Ongoing and tackling these threats with Captain holds mighty risk. (Subject to your comfort) In this case it can result in injuries, mental trauma, or many afflictions that may provide more experience to your character or layers. - There are no clear solutions on how to defeat, overcome, or maybe it’s just an encounter with a band of Crewmates from the varying Crews, that’ll overall build steps closer to final battles or all-out Warfare or cripple these Crew’s to make him able to defeat them with his Wild Crew. ◘ Ulterior - (Mystery/+18Dark ) - A cultist crew held from marshy swamped seas, polluted and tainted. They blur webs of confusion alongside deceit. Operating in the blends of guises that shadowy walk in public crowds they don’t distinguish themselves. The pressure of this arc will be dark, twisted, and every foreboding, never certain what’s reality. Vastly in concern, they’ve begun becoming more bold and manipulating brave pirate’s, adventures, would-be sea goers who get reported missing soon afterwards. Only to be converted and abducted into this Cultist crew as nearly every encounter with them as they eat and feast off your fears turn’s their targets into belief of a high power, a mad god under all fleshing skin. Visited during nightmares. ◘ OMONGA - (Bloody/Violent +18 Extremely Dark) - This Scourge crew is one of the most dangerous altogether. They’re primitive freaks, viking pirates of sorts. Who outright raid, pillage, slaughter anything that moves approaching their territory. A force unlike any other, a dominating and deathly, blight of a Giant who strike’s fear just mentioned by pirate’s of old, stays clear from him and often plays nice to prevent gaining his wrath or detection, better to submit. YORE of the Gorey Seas is their Captain who destructively holds gatekeeper and one force that Maelstrom even cannot overcome their brute waters as they stay stationary and defensive, he’s not too mobile beyond his ‘Nation’ but his crew are savages and they operate like the fiercest warmongers, also they’ve got berserkers. Used to be known wanted but after many bounty hunters and foolish adventurers tried taking his life and the failures stacked up, using the defeated and weak for soil for harvesting their crops, and even their own fleets could bypass their engineering he remained untouchable. Sort of a necessary bridge from one individual owning all the seas altogether. They’ve a whole hierarchy, torture system, culture, that is ultra barbaric. He’ll need additional power to help him have a chance to survive and maintain more importantly the lives of his Crew. This is his last chance to get it all right. (There’s more too but I’ll save them unless asked or somehow the other’s become dealt with or too full.) ◘ Wanted: Deadman - (Suspenseful / Thriller / Mystery) - Recently Captain had resurfaced from death making advancements and pursuits only identifiable as his motives. Maelstrom and other officials, detectives, could be working alongside a set of Law characters that I’ve created also trying to seize and capture him for not just a hefty bounty it’s an instant hanging to death and gallows if he’s caught this time. Or a huge payout. He’s stacked multiplied crimes of indecencies, broken peace, slandered Maelstrom, stolen, scammed, rebelled for Freedom, liberated and uncovered crimes against city-state laws, he’s an outright menace to society. Though Captain and his Crew are crafty and now alongside his First Crewmate are covering his tracks desperately to prevent him from being heard again. Though if Captain succeeds in claiming or ‘Goldbrand’’ regains recognition and infamy again over the high-seas whether by gaining influence, relics, or defeating Scourges and creating more noise. He’ll be even more on the run. His Crew are accessories so capturing them may be enough to draw him out or still provide information and payouts. If he’s noted to still be breathing a full on world bounty can be placed to only increase the odds stacked against his time. (Also wanted by Voidals and anything relating to a Scourge. His enemies are highly stacked but he’s got some incredible reach and allies, people he genuinely loves and cannot be anything without them.) ◘ Isle RP - (High Fantasy / Evolving) - Various Isle’s can be visited, linked and tether to a Crewmate’s personal quest. Or maybe Fables. Each Isle has its own unique dangers and is creatively open to any adapting once the base concept is thought out. I have multiple in mind. Some of them have treasures, others have temporary treasures once the threat on each Isle is dealt with the treasure may be spent. Those things might be non useful, so the experience and journey alone may be the only reward. Or surviving and wreckage etc can also occur, it's all open to free-form.
◘ Relic Hunt - (High Fantasy / Evolving ) - (Reference) - Captain’s crew and trade is being a professional treasure hunter diver. Searching and uncovering ancient tablets and thing’s long forgotten past time itself from allagan, mhachi, amdapori and other mythological natures. From Voidal Relics to the series of Deity Relic’s there remains ruins and dungeons, trials, labyrinths, that possess unique items with governed power imbued from primals, high aetherial beings, or prototypes to strange works of magic and science. Depending on the Relic often determines how desperately Captain seeks to net it under his awareness than allow another to uncover as rival band’s of Scourges and pirate crew also would chase for such and want to use it for dominion and nefarious reasonings. Sometimes they’ll already possess said Relic’s and be threats to battle for the property. Which in that case it’s plundering.time. Depending what Relic is conversed around it could be difficult puzzles, or trials, or something more tame to fetch. If another Historian or someone he believes would preserve the item, safer than within his stead, he’ll only aid in retrieving and less on acquiring. Better the relic stay’s far from his lurking dangers that already pursue his waters.
◘ Crew / No Crew - (Optional Addon) - Can choose whether you wish me to RP the other Crewmates and have them interact with your character / characters or bring multi-muses too. Each Crewmate or the main 13 have their own quests, narratives, their own motives of why they’re even following Captain, but they can betray, be broken, all them will act very realistic and lifelike, so they can be romanced etc too. Captain would go to world’s end for them. Make no mistake, this is his Last Crew and shot, he’s on the thinnest surface of water. Soon the mightiest tides will crash and collide against him and his Worldly Finder, his ship, if he’s unable to reign them or lead them to aid their own morale's then he’ll have no chance in getting to the end of his own quest, goal. Each scourge, relic, everything is an obstacle and aiming for something grand.
Alternatively, I can just RP Captain himself and vaguely mention anything else regarding. Might also gain allies, other crewmates, other things that’ll play parts depending on the arc.
Writing is my lifeblood I enjoy stories.
Overly chill and outspoken along with communication my prime focus. I human so I break down and have to recuperate my energy and health sometimes. Not into drama outside RP.
I Para-RP but do nearly ever format and style.
I’m open to plot within any genre.
24/7 Nerd. +18 year RP experience all around from LARPing, Dungeon Master / Former event runner / Former Owner / Leader for Discords and Linkshells / Tabletop Creator. There’s nothing I cannot do.
I’m CST. Though chronic-deteriorating health makes my hours rando. I prefer Discord RP. (Tumblr too sometimes if have an idea.) In-game I can be swayed. ◘ ~ This all long but trying to be communicative and thorough upfront. A necessary evil, I fear.

Review:
What happens when the man known as “London’s Most Elusive Bachelor” falls in love with the one woman who has set her heart on someone else... mischief, romance, and fun. Elodie Parrish has been in love with her childhood friend George, who has promised to marry her... except years have gone by and he keeps telling her he has to sow his oats with other ladies and isn’t ready for marriage just yet. When Elodie accidentally collides into Lord Brandon Hullworth, he mistakenly assumes that she is trying to trap him into marriage and the two immediately get off on the wrong foot. But later on in the party Elodie befriends Brandon’s younger sister Meg, and the two become close friends. Soon Elodie and Brandon are finding themselves constantly running into each other and their feelings starting to turn from hate to friendship.,,, to something more. Elodie is determined to marry George though even though she doesn’t really feel anything for him compared to Brandon and Brandon is determined to court Elodie and show her just how right he is for her and how wrong George is. It’s a sweet story that switches POVs between Brandon and Elodie. I really liked Brandon as a love interest, he’s sweet and funny, and overall very caring and attentive.
*Thanks Netgalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
