AAAAA i REALLY loved 'to the other side' !! i havent read much of your works (i'd like to read more when i have time, especially of rollo hehe) but WOW its so good 😭 the writing style (?) is very fun to read and its like every sentence has an impact on the fic (like it gets better with each sentence?)
the doctor diagnosis part was amusing too! i recently rewatched pinocchio bc of twst and it was a really fun scene to watch~ (this is. completely unrelated but i was surprised at just how many similarities there were between fellow and honest john like phrases or clothing details)
anyway! the point is that i really enjoyed the fic and as someone who is doing writing more (bc of school TT) i find you inspirational,, i also see some of ur other posts on my dash and reading your opinions and thoughts about things is very interesting!
that is all! thank you!
call me pinocchio the way fellow could effortlessly convince me to come to playful land idc if i get scammed he's SO fine-
[Referencing this fic!]

WEH 😭 Im glad you liked To the Other Side so much!! I hope you get the chance to read my other stuff!! (I recently counted, and I’ve written over 2400 pieces, whether short interactions or long full-fledged fics, for TWST now…) The Rollo interactions have been some of my favorites to do, I’m very happy with those ^^
chisvsjekd You had fun reading the fic? 😌 Then Fellow’s UM must be working on you… Watch out, he’s gonna nab ya for Playful Land— When writing, I tried to capture the essence of crescendoing music from the songs The Greatest Show and The Other Side. They both start soft and progressively grow louder until BOOM there’s an explosion of sound and spectacle. I wanted my fic to invoke a similar feeling, even when it’s just the characters standing around and talking.
I actually haven’t gotten around to watching Disney’s Pinocchio in myself so I had ZERO context going in who Honest John and Gideon were. I referenced some clips of them on Youtube to help me visualize their mannerisms and then superimpose them over Fellow’s and Gidel’s. (It makes sense, given that Fellow and Gidel are twisted from those two!) That’s how I came across the diagnosis scene. I thought it fit so well with Rollo’s Forever Alone and Mad About It personality, so incorporating the diagnosis scene in was so easy to do!
Good luck with your own writing!! I hope you’ll continue to hang out here and enjoy reading my stuff in your free time.
Ah. Fellowife spotted 😂

The Greatest Show part 8
cw: pet(?) whump, male whumpee, nonbinary whumpee, male whumper, circus setting, dehumanization
masterlist
--
As time ticked on, Rogue found themself experiencing their emotions in ebbing waves. At times, the determination to piece together last night’s occurrences faded, and their pressing loneliness and fear crept in. They wished that they could just be sad, but something inside them did not want to allow that.
Of the two, Rogue was the more emotionally intelligent one. They often helped Apollo work through his complicated thoughts and feelings, though they suspected that his avoidance of doing so on his own was less because he was incapable, and more likely due to him simply wanting company while he experienced such emotions. That was why Rogue was confused at their incapability with their own feelings as the sun crept higher into the sky.
They wanted to be sad. They wanted to feel the building worry in their body, the concern at not being by Apollo’s side for once and yet, every time that feeling snuck in, they felt themself going numb. Did they not deserve even the dignity of emotion?
They found themself lost in their mind long enough that they lost track of time. The next thing they realized, the sun was beating down on their pale skin and the trucks had cleared away, along with the rest of the circus equipment. They swallowed any regret they might have had at not leaving with the circus. Their chance was now gone, and they had to sit with it.
What even was their plan? Hitchhike? Who in their right mind would scoop up an injured stranger from the side of the road? Rogue was not a scary presence, their body was small and skinny, so any passerby would have no reason to fear them. They had more to fear than whoever may find them.
The sun set before they saw a single vehicle. It was dark, glittering stars twinkling above them. The moon was their only light, as such a rural road had no streetlights lining it. They were questioning their plan. Surely nobody would be able to see them sitting in a bush in the dark.
With a strained whimper, Rogue pushed themself out of the bush and onto grass. They just had to hope that their glittery leotard and nearly translucent skin would catch the light from any passing headlights.
Their leg was swollen, and they feared looking down at it. When they got injured, typically it was a pulled muscle or something of the sort. Something beneath their skin, something that wasn’t caused by an impact. As much as they hated to admit it, they were scared to see their body injured and twisted. They turned their eyes to the stars, trying to remember any of the constellations.
Of course they couldn’t remember any. They only remembered, they only thought when it was for Apollo. They were capable of telepathy when they spoke for him. They were the greatest storyteller in the world, so long as they were telling him stories. When they were away from him, their mind was liquid and useless. They were useless. They had failed him, and now they didn’t know where he was.
They were snapped out of their malaise by the grinding sound of dirt and gravel beneath a car. Their head swiveled to face the oncoming headlights, cool white light beaming towards them. They desperately yelled, shouting and waving their hands, hoping that whoever it was would stop.
It was difficult to see through the blinding light, but Rogue believed that the vehicle approaching them was a truck. A large pick up truck. They prayed that it wasn’t some irate man driving it, but they would bite their tongue and take what they could get, as they had been doing for all their years at the circus.
The truck rumbled to a halt in front of Rogue. It sat idle for a moment, then another. Time froze, Rogue’s heart stuck in their throat, they couldn’t bear to breathe. Their arm dropped to their side, and they winced as they scooted just a few more inches back away from the road, giving the truck the space it would need if the driver decided to leave them.
Another moment ticked by, and then the car door finally swung open.
Heavy boots hit the poorly maintained pavement. Rogue felt their heart rate quicken and adrenaline start to pump through their body. A figure stepped out from behind the open truck door and approached Rogue.
“Do you need some help?” The person said. Rogue, squinting into the light, nodded. “I can take you into town. Come on.”
A hand was extended to the acrobat. They took it, dreading the inevitable pain of trying to stand up. They hauled their body up, and quickly collapsed with a gasp against the person.
“Woah, easy, I’ve got you.” The person held Rogue up easily, though it was hardly a difficult task. They helped them into the front seat of the truck, and they got into the driver’s seat.
With a moment to breathe, Rogue looked the person up and down. She was of average height, which made her taller than them. She had many long braids resting over her shoulder, and she wore a loose top and loose pants. Rogue wondered what she had been doing out at this hour, especially in this location, but they kept quiet.
“What’s your story?” She asked, turning to them. She hadn’t started the car yet. Rogue anticipated that she wouldn’t do so until they started explaining themself. Rogue wrung their hands. They were not the one with the upper hand here.
They debated on if they should even tell the truth. They were honest with the Ringmaster when they first entered the circus, and look where that got them. But what other choice did they have?
“I was with the circus.” Their voice was hoarse, “I was an acrobat, and last, or well, possibly the night before last, I fell victim to a precarious, dangerous, quite horrifying accident-” Rogue took a breath and tried to organize their thoughts into ‘normal people’ sentences, not the way they tended to speak. “I fell during my performance, I think I might have broken my leg. I know I’ve injured my back. I don’t know what else I’ve hurt.”
The woman simply gave a small grunt of acknowledgement. She was mulling over the story herself, examining it and deciding if Rogue was telling the truth. Rogue hoped that their current outfit would at least help convince the woman that they were being honest.
“Okay.” She buckled herself in and shifted gears, beginning to drive forward down the rugged road. “So, what’s your name, acrobat?”
“Rogue, it’s Rogue.” They muttered.
“I’m Aaliyah. Nice to meet you, Rogue.” The truck rumbled and bumped down the road. “I don’t suppose you have anyone you can go to in the city?” She said it with a sigh, as though she already knew- and dreaded- the answer.
Rogue gave a negative grunt, and Aaliyah simply nodded.
“I… There’s a shelter for human pets-”
“I can’t.” Rogue interjected immediately. “I’ve stayed at one before and I absolutely, positively refuse to do so again. You can leave me on a street corner, I can figure something else out and you can wash your hands of me, but please don’t drop me in one of those.”
Aaliyah jumped a little, startled at Rogue’s sudden conviction.
“And you’re sure you don’t have anyone?”
“I- my only friend from the circus- I don’t know where he is now. He… I think attacked the Ringmaster of the circus, but I blacked out soon after that started. Please, if you can help me find him, then I’ll be out of your hair.”
A pause of silence stretched between them, punctuated only by the rumbling of the ground beneath the vehicle.
“Okay,” Aaliyah gripped the wheel, not looking at Rogue, “Your friend, what is his name?”
