#in stars and time#isat#LMAO I FINISHED BEFORE LUNAR NEW YEAR#anyways if you saw my sketches then you know what the deal is#anyways i want to expand upon paper flowers and the act of giving them through viet siffrin#like folding in important or iconic memories into them to give to someone esp on new year for good luck#perhaps small tiny wishes cradled in lotus flowers for your loved ones to celebrate the lunar new year#maybe even once upon a time a litany of bright and red paper flowers flooded the streets for good fortune#i think siffrin would unconsciously fold a memory into each paper crane they make in an imitation of that#the act of giving oneself and maybe a piece of you being the highlight of the year#that you are made of your community be it enemies and loved ones and you also make up others#can you tell giving the king a flower has impacted me heavily? can you tell????#would love to explore siffrin making paper flowers for their family based on different cherished memories they have of them#in which forgetting is not as scary as i t could be once you know your family has the memories for you#the draws#i forgot i dropped off of tagging spoilers this applies to loop#think of loop making paper cranes at the favor tree made out of leaves#okay im done

There are so many timeskips within the flashback! My flow and pacing are wheezing!#I loved how this scene starts with the crowd's point of view. The observations and gossip add a lot.#And it helps reposition us to what the external perspective is on these two. Namely that 'they don't get along.'#Tensions are known! Even here in Nouveau Lotus Pier.#Ah...Lan Wangji never got a chance to see the Lotus Pier of Wei Wuxian's childhood and adolescence...did he?#It's not the same. He's not the same. Call them by the same name and people will know what you mean...#...but the first version - the one with the fond memories - is gone for good.#It's sort of interesting isn't it? How names can hold so much power and still be hollow?#We often get stuck over past versions of things. Be it ourselves or other people or places.#Change is scary but the truth is nothing ever stays the same. It's always moving. You're always moving.#It's okay to mourn the past. Maybe it's people you lost or the person you hoped to be. Let yourself feel the grief.#And then? Then you grow around that pain and keep on going. If you feel like you can't - remember you don't have to do it alone.#A side note: Listening to the tossing flowers extra is so essential for this scene. Whenever I try to imagine relationship between adult Jin Ling and Jiang Cheng, it's always JC going "boo-hoo, now that he's all grown up, he will fly away from the nest and forget all about me and leave my old bones to rot as things should be" and JL going "FINALLY. FINALLY IT'S MY TURN TO FUSS OVER YOU".
Something like this:
JL: When was the last time you touched grass? No. No, look me in the eyes. Answer the question. When was. The last time. You touched grass? Okay, I'm staying here and I'm not going anywhere until you touch grass. Go on, do it. No. No, don't you dare! Come on. Just a little bit, it's okay. There you go! Wasn't so bad, was it? --------------------------- JC (staying in the distance, holding hands to his mouth and shouting): IS IT ENOUGH BASKING IN THE SUN????? JL (watching him from afar, also holding hands to his mouth and shouting): FORTY SECONS DOESN'T COUNT AS 'BASKING IN THE SUN'!!! JC: FUCK!!! ---------------------------
(Jiang Cheng and Jing Ling are enjoying dinner in silence, when suddenly--) JL: Name three good things that happened to you recently. JC: *grumbles* JL: Come on. JC: Uhh..... Okay, I..... Uuuuuuugh... I saw a cute dog yersteday! JL: Oh, that's a good one. I'll count this for two. JC: Aaaand I just named a good thing that counts for two? JL: That's two plus zero. Think harder, uncle.
--------------------------- JC: Sometimes I wish you flew away from the nest and left my old bones to rot. JL: You should have thought about it before taking care of me.

JL: From now on you will sleep at least six hours per night. JC: No. JL: It's either that or hugging Wei Wuxian next time you see him. JC: Six hours is good, I can do that. (Jiang Cheng turns Lotus Pier upside down to find a rat who keeps reporting to Jin Ling about his sleep schedule. He can't find that person. Of course he can't! They are ALL rats!)
#JC had several people in disguise to check on JL's whereabouts#JL spent half of his childhood at Lotus Pier so he just went and conspired with the WHOLE LOTUS PIER to make JC live a good life#imagine JC sniffing flowers while writhing and hissing (literally) because little joys are a foreign concept to him#but don't worry he's in good hands he'll get there#mo dao zu shi#mdzs#jiang cheng#jiang wanyin#jin ling#jin rulan#mdzsips
