Film: MAN’S CASTLE (dir. Frank Borzage, 1933, USA); THE DISORDERLY ORDERLY (dir. Frank Tashlin, 1964, USA); and LIGHT NEEDS (dir. Jesse McLean, 2023, USA)
Forum: Wisconsin Film Festival   Format: Various formats
Observations: We haven't been to Madison, WI to see a film since 2018. We booked three films at the festival taking us from 11am-6pm. MAN'S CASTLE (screened in 4K) appeared in a newly restored version that added several minutes of previously lost dialog. (It was preceded by several lovely Fox Movietone outtakes of footage taken in Wisconsin in the 1920s and 30s, with David Drazin accompanying on piano.) THE DISORDERLY ORDERLY - the final collaboration of Frank Tashlin and star Jerry Lewis - was shown in a privately-owned 35mm IB Technicolor print, a seldom-projected preview print slightly different from the release version. In between, we saw a collection of shorts related to botanical themes, the centerpiece of which was a feature-length documentary about the relationship of humans with houseplants (LIGHT NEEDS). Only the Tashlin film seemed slightly underattended; sixty years later, many folks still do not get Lewis.

Jerry in “The Disorderly Orderly “.
Jerry was super hot and sexy in this one but it wasn’t one of my favorite Jerry movies. There just wasn’t any chemistry between Jerry and his leading ladies in this one.

I hate the toxic environment of surgical rotations they are all egotistical stuck ups who brings you down for the most minuscule things, they say it is how it is supposed to be to keep things in order but if that is that then it is not my cup of tea, i understand the need to be professionals and i know if you are too lax in a work environment than people will not listen to you and it would be costly for both patients and the education, but i still don’t agree with the need to be sulky all the time to look serious and criticize everything just bc you have been working there six months more than the next person. I did more than any normal person would who was there to just observe and I still feel like being monitored all the time and i also got warned for the most stupid things in the last month. It is honestly so upsetting and tiring to be on alert all the time just so they don’t talk badly behind your back and it does not create a bad impression, bc then whatever you do you will be wrong and lazy. I think it is also a cultural thing where if you don’t assert superiority then people don’t take their responsibilities seriously and the work is done lousily, which is so wrong bc you should do the job, which is basically saving lives, for your own moral and ethic values in light of knowledge and if you don’t know sth you should be able to ask without hesitation. Ugh, thank god it is over this friday bc i cannot breathe here.
#i really like sone stuff abt whow things are more orderly and how people listen to the job they are given by their superiors#also they are more edıcationally and scientifically effective similar to this way too#i just dont like that it stems from a constant fear#i would hate to work in an environment where i would do things just not to get reprimanded and where there was a risk of that ever minute#i do think the levels are necessary still#but if we lived in a more moral society ppl would respect each other and their pwn work more so that power would not get abused#personal#my thoughts#in my department ppl are too emotional and disorderly too i am like that too which is far from professional and the gossiping is toxic too#i just think there should be a healthy middle that would be accquired if ppl were more mature#it eventually ends up being a social problem of how we are raised as and thought our ways#taught*#i am talking abt my anesthesiology rotation#i am so glad i did not get placed in here two amd a half years ago it was my first choice#it is like no matter what you say or do they have a judgy look on their face that says i am better than you you are wrong you are stupid#f u tbh#they think they are cool and ğowerful which they probably had to be bc they survived the same things i mentioned#and that is how they got so immune to negativity#which is in a way a healthy thing bc you dont get stuck on criticism after some ğoint bc you cant be upset all day every day#but it is not cool it is sad#i would hate to go through this öuch toxicity and become someone like that#which i can see bc i also experience these stuff day to day#i would either be so mentally broken bc i am sensitive to unfair treatment or i would be like them a bigheaded idiot#who thinks breaking ppl and stepping on them is good bc that is how to teach someone and i am actually doing them a favor#i am emotional and sensitive to ppls opinions of me and i am a people pleaser which are things i should work on and get more immune about#but this is not it

what is the wadju principle I'm losing my mind trying to figure this out. a moral stance on food reviewing??? help
in khemite hekatic practice the original principle is the ahtet, formless and undifferentiated, all-encompassing and unrealised. it has no shape, no colour, no centre and no boundary (or it might be better to say it possesses all forms simultaneously, which is much the same).
because of this, to make use of the ahtet it must first be given definition. this is accomplished through division, the primary act of creation (one may witness such an act by watching newly cut grain be threshed into stalk and seed). while the ahtet may be divided infinitely, the first division is always into the green and red principles, wadju and desha.
desha is hot, dry, energetic, disordered, and protean. it is associated primarily with the desert and the planting season. wadju is cool, wet, stable, and still; it is associated with the river and the flooding season. wadju tames desha and turns it towards productive ends through ordering and directing its energies; this is the growing season. the khemite people also consider these to be the masculine and feminine principles. khemut is matriarchal- the purpose of men, whose natures are energetic but disorderly is to be directed by women, whose natures are logical, patient and orderly. communion of the red and green principles is the purpose of marriage. the reunification of wadju and desha, true synthesis into the black principle, is called rekati and is the sole province of the empress.
wadju is understood to be primarily cultivated in the womb, while desha is primarily cultivated in the testes, though men and women are known to contain a measure of both red and green in different balances (children are considered to be of formless ahtet-principle until they reach puberty). one may alter the balance of their principles through dedicated spiritual practice, a correct diet, and certain medicines; this is an important component of medicine as imbalanced principles are a primary source of illness. indeed, if one were dedicated enough to this practice, they could entirely alter the balance of their internal principles so that the green principle is predominant in their body where red once was, or vice-versa. one might even use such techniques to alter the physical traits of the body- such is the basis of hekatic internal alchemy, after all.
therefore, to cultivate the wadju principle is to practice internal alchemy to grow one's feminine force. it has nothing to do with the food review app. theres only so many combinations of letters and sounds okay (there are certain practitioners, most notoriously the priestesses of dust, who will tell you that since the red and green principles are divided from an infinite principle they contain equal infinities and have no innate traits; that the masculine and feminine are contained in equal quantities in both desha and wadju and either could be used to accomplish any end or alter one's self in any way. this is obvious nonsense, contrary to mahat and should be disregarded.)

Was having a convo with @akifordessert about Papagumo and the nicknames he'd give his kiddo(s). And thank you, Memi (@dearsecretlover) for inspo and motivation (and for sharing this Papa!gumo art by mxeong__) as always~!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I digress! Here's the little scolding imagine I promised!
nagumo x gn!reader = gn!toddler in their terrible twos [c/n] = your toddler's name [f/n] = your first name
Tumblr media
You: Nagumo! [c/n]! What the heck happened in the living room?! Nagumo looked around his surroundings. It was as if the usually orderly living room had two tornadoes sweep through it, an explosion of scattered toys everywhere, overturned furniture, ripped paper decorations, and colourful fingerprints adorning the walls. Nagumo & Your Toddler: (both in a kneeling position, getting scolded by you) Nagumo: (trying not to grin) [f/n], it's no biggie. Just some father-child bonding gone awry. [c/n], your rambunctious toddler, mirrored his pose perfectly beside him, eyes wide with feigned innocence that couldn't hide the sparkle of mischief dancing in their depths. Nagumo couldn't help but feel a swell of pride at his miniature accomplice's acting skills. You: Oh, really? Father-child? But I only see two children in front of me. Nagumo: Now, now! (holds hands up) See? No paint on my hands. (wiggles digits) Clearly, I'm just an innocent bystander here. You: Yeah, that doesn't help your case. You're the adult in this disorderly duo, or did you forget? Nagumo: I suppose cleaning duty falls upon us two, hmm? Let's clean up this mess before it becomes an international incident. He cast a conspiratorial wink at your toddler, who giggled delightedly at being included in their imaginary fellowship against their ever-so-serious parent. You: (sighs) Nagumo... I'm sick of having to be the mean parent--let alone adult--in this relationship. They have to learn how to clean up their own messes eventually, you know. Nagumo: You're right. We can't let them run wild like this. But it's just so hard to discipline this angelic face (tickles [c/n]'s chubby cheek, causing them to erupt into a fit of laughter, squirming happily). You: (unimpressed face) Nagumo: All right. (playful but stern enough tone) Focus, Agent [c/n], your mission, should you choose to accept it... Together, Nagumo and [c/n] tackled the mess, turning cleaning into a fun game of hide-and-seek with the scattered toys and art supplies.
Tumblr media
Nagumo: (grabs a juice from the fridge) You: Nagumo! [c/n] doesn't need more sugar! Nagumo's grin widened into a smirk as your toddler took advantage of the situation and quickly gulped down the forbidden juice. Nagumo: Aw, shucks. Looks like we're too late. You: (narrowing eyes) If [c/n] doesn't end up learning anything, I'm going to discipline you both. In the 'mean parent' way. Nagumo: (clapping) All right, Agent [c/n]! Operation Clean Slate isn't complete until Big Boss says so. Your Toddler: (salutes and gets back to cleaning, hands and mouth sticky with juice) Nagumo: (grins and walks towards you) You know, [f/n], you were pretty convincing right then. I almost believed you'd actually punish me. You: (crosses arms) The day's still young. Nagumo: (leans down to whisper in your ear) Is that a promise?

hi i wanted to send an emergency request so if it makes you uncomfortable but ive been struggling with an eating disorder for 2 years now i was wondering if you could do katsuki comforting reader who cant get herself to eat.
Sanctuary of gentleness - Bakugo x Reader
A/N: I'm really sorry to hear about the struggles you’ve been facing. Healing is not linear and every small step you take towards recovery is a victory. It's important to be kind to yourself and recognize the strength it takes to face each day
EMERGENCY REQS MASTERLIST - PART 2
Tumblr media
The day had stretched out long and weary, a tapestry of endless hours that found you curled up on the living room sofa, a book lying forgotten on your lap. Sunlight waned, slipping through the curtains in lazy, golden streaks, as the clock ticked towards the time Katsuki would come home.
You hadn’t eaten anything all day. The very thought tightened an invisible band around your chest, making it hard to breathe, to move, to think beyond the numbing fear that came with every mealtime.
The sound of the door slamming jolted you from your reverie, heralding Katsuki’s return. His heavy footsteps resonated against the hardwood floor. "Hey," he started, his voice rough around the edges after a day of shouting orders and battling foes. "I'm home."
He was ready for a night of quiet, hopefully punctuated by the comfort of a shared meal with you, his beloved fiancée, but the apartment was too quiet, the usual signs of life unsettlingly absent.
He appeared in the doorway, his hero costume replaced by an oversized, grey t-shirt and black sweatpants, his face drawn tight with exhaustion, hair disheveled. He found you in the living room, curled up on the couch with a blanket draped over your legs.
You glanced up, managing a weak smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes. "Welcome back," you murmured.
Katsuki’s brow furrowed as he approached you, a twinge of concern tightening his chest.
The kitchen was untouched - the pots and pans in their places, the plates clean, the entire space too orderly. "Did you eat anything today?" he asked, his tone sharper than he intended.
Your silence was answer enough.
"Dammnit!" Katsuki exploded, his temper flaring as it often did when he felt helpless. "You need to eat, damn it! You can’t just -"
But he stopped, the anger draining from him as he took a closer look at you.
There were dark circles under your eyes, and your hands were clasped tightly in your lap. This wasn’t the stubbornness he often dealt with in the field; this was something deeper, something painful.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair, the spikes falling disorderly, a rare sign of his agitation. "I’m sorry," he muttered, sitting down beside you. He took a deep breath, his next words more measured. "Talk to me."
You shifted, leaning into him, your head resting against his strong shoulder. "I don’t know, Katsuki. It’s hard to explain," you whispered, the weight of your confession making your voice tremble. "Everything’s just too much. And I am not hungry... Even if I feel dizzy and unwell..."
Katsuki’s arms wrapped around you, pulling you closer. His heart ached at your admission, his usual solutions of fighting through the problem useless here. "I know, babe, I know it’s hard," he said, his voice a low rumble coming from deep withing his chest. "But you gotta eat. We’ll figure this out, okay? Together."
You nodded against him, the fight draining out of you. "I want to get better," you admitted, "But I'm afraid I'm not strong enough. I'm so scared."
"Then we start small," he said decisively. "What about some green tea? And maybe some toast?" His proposal was gentle, a stark contrast to his usual bluntness.
"That sounds okay," you agreed.
Katsuki stood, extending his hand to you. "Let’s go then. I’ll make it." His words were a command, but his tone was soft, caring.
In the kitchen, Katsuki moved with a sureness. He heated the water, and soon tea was ready. He watched you out of the corner of his eye as he buttered the toast.
You sat at the counter, watching him, the normalcy of the situation making you feel calmer.
When he placed the cup and plate in front of you, his hand lingered over yours, warm and reassuring. "It’s okay to struggle," Katsuki said, meeting your gaze with an intensity that only he could muster. "But you’re not alone. Never."
Katsuki sat across from you, and started eating his portion.
As you nibbled on the toast and sipped the tea, Bakugo talked about trivial things - something funny Kirishima had said, a weird quirk a villain had used that day - his words light, but his presence a steadfast anchor in the storm of your thoughts. There was no impatience in his gaze, no biting remarks about the speed at which you ate. Instead, there was an unspoken encouragement.
When the plates were finally empty, Katsuki leaned back in his chair, his gaze still fixed on you, but now there was a hint of pride in his eyes. "See? You can do this," he said, his voice low and reassuring.
You looked up from your plate, meeting his gaze. "It was good," you whispered softly, a small smile tugging at the corners of your lips. "But I'm full."
Finally, the dishes were cleared, and you both moved to the living room, the space familiar and comforting.
Katsuki, usually a bundle of restless energy, seemed more at ease, his demeanor gentle as he sat down beside you on the couch. He draped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close, and you leaned into the warmth of his body, feeling the steady beat of his heart against your side. He kissed the top of your head softly, a gesture so laden with affection and resolve. "We're a team, remember?" he whispered, his voice a low rumble. "No matter how tough it gets, we face it together."
You nodded, the simplicity of the moment wrapping around you like a cocoon. "Together," you agreed, the word a lifeline in the swirling sea of your thoughts.
Katsuki had always been a fortress of strength, but now he was also a sanctuary of gentleness.

My summary/breakdown of Staroba's dynamic (in reference to this post).
Note that I'm going to be working off memory for most of this so if someone has some additional input they wanna chime in with, feel free to. This is also going to be a train of thought/rambley sorta post so it's gonna be a bit disorderly (though, when have I ever been orderly with my posts :p)...
I like Staroba. A lot. And it's such a shame that there are people out there who look at this ship and just see "they're both bisexual, she's girlboss, he's malewife, and she pegs him" because there's SO MUCH more to their dynamic/that isn't even what their dynamic is.
They're childhood friends. We don't know how far back their friendship extends but I'm willing to venture that it's been since elementary school/early middle school at the absolute latest. And at the point in canon when Clover meets them, they're both likely in their late-twenties to mid-thirties in age. That's a long time to know someone, enough to be there through all the cringey, messy phases in life. These two know each other better than anyone else through sheer proximity and time spent together (more on this later).
Starlo has also been nursing a massive crush on Ceroba since they were kids. You can see this in the picture that's in Starlo's house: she's holding him and doing a peace sign at the camera, meanwhile Starlo is clearly flustered and hover-handing her (this was likely back when the Dunes were still the Meadows, judging by what appears to be a pine tree in the background).
Tumblr media
That might have you think: "Ah, Rusty, you're so lame. This is a 'the guy gets the girl' scenario. I'm gonna chuck tomatoes at you!" And to that I say: hold your tomatoes! Ceroba did have some interest in Starlo as well! Exclusively in the Pacifist Run, if Clover TALKs to Ceroba two times in the reception area in the Steamworks (immediately after entering the door where the path through the Steamworks branches off from the Neutral/No Mercy Route), Ceroba will initially start off talking about how she met Chujin and how she'll never find someone as wonderful as him in her life, which prompts Clover to mention Starlo. Ceroba gets a bit flustered but states that she did consider getting into a romantic relationship with him once upon a time but he wasn't ready to grow up like she was (8:18 in this video). So there was mutual potential for them to get together when they were younger, but the things they wanted out of life at that point weren't compatible with each other. Like two ships in the night, they passed each other by.
Ceroba fell in love with Chujin, who was ready to have a family and settle down and be mature, which is what Ceroba wanted from a romantic relationship. And when Ceroba got engaged to Chujin, what did Starlo do? Did he get jealous and throw a fit? Shovel-talk Chujin? Try to convince Ceroba to take him instead? Nope. According to Crestina, he got so depressed that he locked himself in his room for days. As hurt as he was by the person he loved not picking him, he didn't make his feelings Ceroba's problem. Starlo was the one who lacked the initiative to ask her out and I get the sense that he knew that deep down; he couldn't just expect Ceroba to magically know his feelings for her and then they get married and ride off into the sunset together. Instead, he respects Ceroba's relationship. They remain good friends. He lets Ceroba and Kanako, the child that the love of his life had with Chujin, come over to his town and goof off. He may not like Chujin as a person because of his own petty feelings but he also respects for the man (seen in his dialogue about Chujin after defeating Ceroba in True Pacifist) and he's aware that his gripes with Chujin are personal.
Then Chujin passes away and Kanako falls down and gets sent to the Lab. While Chujin's death is well-known, nobody else in town seems to know what happened to Kanako besides Starlo (though, without the specifics) and the Feisty Four (who Starlo likely broke the news to). Starlo is Ceroba's sole confidant. With Chujin permanently out of the picture, this could be Starlo's chance to try to charm Ceroba. But he's respectful enough to know that she's in this deeply vulnerable state and so he does the right thing and helps her. Approaches the situation as her best friend. Let her crash in the Feisty Five's shack rent-free because staying at home is too painful for her. Invents his whole "North Star" persona to try to entertain her and distract her from her pain because that's what strikes him as the best thing to do. Pulls Ceroba into his shenanigans to take her mind off her problems. It doesn't exactly work because her problems run deeper than that but an attempt is made to make things easier for her.
On Ceroba's side of things, she may not understand Starlo's whole cowboy LARPing deal but she knows that it makes him happy. She doesn't look down on it or belittle him for having a passion that is so nerdy that it practically pastes a "Kick me" sign on his back. She may not want to be involved in the Feisty Five, but she's entertained by them and lets herself get dragged into their roleplays from time to time (see Ceroba getting involved in the Trolley Problem Mission, wooden actor that she is). In a Neutral Run, if Starlo is spared, Ceroba will throw a party for him to celebrate him reuniting with the rest of the Feisty Five because she wants him to be happy. Despite how different they are in terms of stuff like personality and interests, they both like and respect each other a lot.
They also have so many parallels despite their differences and know each other so well. Clover shows up and Starlo falls too deeply into the persona he invented and becomes a reckless, selfish jerk. He drives away his friends, he nearly kills Clover and there is nothing that Clover can do to snap him out of it (yes, Clover can Surrender in the end, but that only makes him hesitate. And if Clover does anything but Surrender or FIGHT him on the final turn, Starlo will nearly pull the trigger on Clover until Ceroba interferes). Ceroba is the one to call him out on his behavior and make him remember his conscience: he's not this selfish jerk he built himself up to be, he's not a killer. In the Pacifist Run, Starlo goes after Ceroba once he realizes the truth of why she's accompanying Clover to Hotland. It's not solely to protect Clover, though that's a massive factor (if this was the case, he'd accompany Clover back to the Wild East instead of going after Ceroba); he wants to protect Ceroba's heart: she's not the sort to murder an innocent child, she's not a killer. You can especially see this mindset that Starlo has when he calls Clover out in the Flawed Pacifist ending: while the law and everyone else may see Clover killing Ceroba as the equivalent of putting a dangerous murderer down, to him, they killed a desperate mother pushed to an extreme. Unforgivable in his eyes.
There's also how Clover can only say the same responses to killing either Starlo or Ceroba ("..." or "I'm sorry."), depending on the run. As well as how only Starlo or Ceroba can be fought in Flowey's mindscape in a Neutral Run, depending on how the Neutral Run is done. Never both. Could mean nothing, but I like pointing it out.
They're also pretty damn patient with each other despite being impatient people overall. You can see Starlo's impatience with how eager he is to push Clover into being a deputy and how dismissive he acts about the rest of the Feisty Five when they bring up complaints/try to get him to slow down. But when Ceroba wallops him then he gets back up in the True Pacifist ending, then it's a "Well, I guess I deserved that :D." Not a lick of anger for being knocked unconscious. Likewise, when Clover was in the Wild East in a Pacifist Run, Ceroba is likely straining at the bit to get Clover to the Royal Laboratory as soon as possible. But she also knows that having a human in the town that Starlo made to imitate the Surface means a lot to him, so she lets him have his fun with them until he's ready to let them go.
Starlo's and Ceroba's dynamic is founded on a deep understanding of who each party is at their core, mutual respect and kindness for one another, and patience. They're best friends with each other but that relationship also has the potential to evolve into a romantic relationship just as much as it can withstand remaining purely platonic. There is no "this one is the boss of the relationship and this one is the one that defers to the other" dynamic in the relationship because both sides are equals who are willing to listen to each other (Ceroba and Chujin's relationship more closely adheres to that dynamic actually, with Ceroba deferring to Chujin because she sees him as this perfect, untouchable character. You can see this with Ceroba hesitating to kill Clover because she genuinely likes the kid but because Chujin asked her to reap an innocent human SOUL for his serum, she goes all-out to accomplish this). They love each other a lot platonically and I can see the opportunity for some romantic attraction to crop up as Ceroba starts to move on from Chujin and Starlo starts being more responsible post-True Pacifist. They would be two people who mutually grow into the best versions of themselves and also love each other.

The doctor was confused at first but then connected the dots to me looking at this photo and gave me a clean (or should I say, doity) bill of health
wink wink

The Spanish Series: El Dos De Mayo 1808 - Francisco Goya (1814)
Tumblr media
"There was an insurrection in Madrid on May 2. Thirty of forty thousand persons assembled in the streets and in houses and fired from the windows. Two battalions of fusiliers of the Guard and 400 or 500 cavalrymen brought things back to normal..."
Letter by Napoleon Bonaparte to his son, 6 May 1808
In the French emperor's view at the time, the 2nd of May was a disaster for the Spanish rebels. He would quickly learn that it was in reality a disaster for him. The ensuing Peninsular War became the disaster before the disaster of Russia, the straw that only fractured the camel's back.
One particularly interesting aspect of Goya's painting is the amalgamation between the rebels and the French soldiers. It is somewhat difficult to tell which side will emerge victorious, as one can see both French soldiers and Spaniards lying on the ground in pools of blood. The painting is chaotic, disorderly, and almost overt in its graphic depiction of gore.
Perhaps what Goya truly wanted to do was paint a very real form of war at its worst. The battles of the Napoleonic Wars were often painted with a more orderly manner of warfare, in which Napoleon sat on his horse, victorious above the fallen soldiers of the Coalition.

the parahumans equivalent of the apollonian and dionysian is the amycore (passionate, human, irrational, lustful, disorderly) and the numbermancore (dispassionate, superhuman, hyperrational, hyper-orderly). all characters can be mapped on this spectrum. this is also why all truly great fics include some kind of yin yang relationship between the two, like amy being involved in some strategy, tactic, or scheme; or number man being involved in something horny and chaotic.
