I have to resort to the Eshvaren trigger I keep in my cargo bay “WE THE LEGION” the psychic force pops two of the G-men like water balloons, the Excess power crumples the longbow like a tin can. My tank charges the last terrified fungoid with Martial arts and he dies waiting for the police to arrive because Aen sun nerve strikes are impossible to recover from.

Aurora Cycle drinking Headcanons

Tyler: he does not drink much, so he's drunk just after a few beers, even Auri can handle more than him. When he's tipsy he's the nicest guy you can imagine, but not with a singe brain cell left. As soon as he's wasted he simply falls asleep. Anywhere.

Scarlett: due to training with Cat she has a pretty high tolerance. But when she's drunk she immediately finds new friends and wanders off with them. She woke up in a strangers house more than once.

Cat: probably has a slight drinking problem ( 🤫 ). She once exed a whole bottle of wodka (and vomited afterwards). One can barely notice when she's drunk, because she helds herself together pretty well, but she's even bolder than normally and picks up every fight she can find.

Finian: When he's drunk he teams up with Auri and they do the dumbest shit anyone can imagine. Everything is suddenly funny. Very likely that you will find them at the dance floor (are they good at it? depends who you ask).

Aurora: Like said with Fin, she turns into a real rogue. She has a whole drawer full of stuff she took home while being drunk.

Kal: He does not like to drink, because he loses control over his well guarded emotions, so he only drinks when Aurora (already tipsy and in a good mood) gives him her huge puppy eyes. He turns into a complete extrovert and once even started a cult by accident.

Saedii: Pretty much like her brother. She turns into a friendly, touch-starved version of herself (Syldrathi simply tolerate terran alkohol not that well, she does not want to admit it). She already told the whole squad while being drunk how much they mean to her (noone can remember, because they all had a blackout that night) and cuddles at Tyler (at least when he's still awake).

Zila: Zila actually never drunk, she thinks it's a waste of time and braincells.

notes from a violinist on the siif

hey everybody i've played violin for 10 years, so naturally you can assume i was excited when the siif was described as being similar to a violin. but then, it was described as a plucked instrument where chords are more commonly played instead of notes, which caused me to Wonder...

here is what i think we can assume about the instrument, for all you fanfic writers out there:

violinists do pluck sometimes (pizzicato), but we still hold it on the shoulder when we do that. i'm assuming that the siif is something you hold at your chest/in your lap like a guitar, because it's hard to sing and play chords with something on your shoulder. I argue that the siif is actually more similar to a mandolin than a violin. why? you might ask, well a mandolin is roughly the same size, and is tuned the same as a violin, but is more commonly a chord instrument.

you might also ask what it looks like. i'm no expert, but i think we can assume that like the mandolin, it's teardrop shaped. the teardrop shape seems to be a common element in syldrathi culture so i don't think that's too big of a stretch. i think it is also dark in color, as it's probably made from lias wood

Illuminae fans, pls help me out!

I first read Illuminae from the library, and when I got a copy as a gift I never opened it until now. For some reason, pages 107-170 are printed upside down and arranged backwards in my copy. Here’s a photo of pages 106 and 170:

I know this book plays with page format a lot, but I don’t remember this when I first read it. I’m also listening to the audiobook rn and came across this while trying to find my spot in the physical copy. Is this standard printing or did I get a weird copy?

Saedii must have been attackted several times for her relationship with Tyler. And this got even worse while being pregnant with Lae. We know that the Syldrathi, especially the Unbroken, are a proud and self-glorifying nation which are not open towards "mixed species" (relationships between the different cabals were already uncommon).

You cannot convince me that they were suddenly fine with it, just because their leader fell in love with a Terran. It's more likely that they tried to "erase" this flaw from Saedii (attacking her, her child, Tyler).
