I have to resort to the Eshvaren trigger I keep in my cargo bay “WE THE LEGION” the psychic force pops two of the G-men like water balloons, the Excess power crumples the longbow like a tin can. My tank charges the last terrified fungoid with Martial arts and he dies waiting for the police to arrive because Aen sun nerve strikes are impossible to recover from.

notes from a violinist on the siif

hey everybody i've played violin for 10 years, so naturally you can assume i was excited when the siif was described as being similar to a violin. but then, it was described as a plucked instrument where chords are more commonly played instead of notes, which caused me to Wonder...

here is what i think we can assume about the instrument, for all you fanfic writers out there:

violinists do pluck sometimes (pizzicato), but we still hold it on the shoulder when we do that. i'm assuming that the siif is something you hold at your chest/in your lap like a guitar, because it's hard to sing and play chords with something on your shoulder. I argue that the siif is actually more similar to a mandolin than a violin. why? you might ask, well a mandolin is roughly the same size, and is tuned the same as a violin, but is more commonly a chord instrument.

you might also ask what it looks like. i'm no expert, but i think we can assume that like the mandolin, it's teardrop shaped. the teardrop shape seems to be a common element in syldrathi culture so i don't think that's too big of a stretch. i think it is also dark in color, as it's probably made from lias wood

Illuminae fans, pls help me out!

I first read Illuminae from the library, and when I got a copy as a gift I never opened it until now. For some reason, pages 107-170 are printed upside down and arranged backwards in my copy. Here’s a photo of pages 106 and 170:

I know this book plays with page format a lot, but I don’t remember this when I first read it. I’m also listening to the audiobook rn and came across this while trying to find my spot in the physical copy. Is this standard printing or did I get a weird copy?

i hc that post ae, at home kal talks to auri in syldrathi and she responds in english (terran?? it lowkey pisses me off that english is just called terran in the series since that is 1000% not the only terran language left . . . but i digress) since those are the languages they’re most comfortable with, and even after years when auri is completely fluent in syldrathi and able to speak it they continue in their native languages. when they have kids they catch on to this habit, prompting them to respond in english whenever their dad speaks to them in syldrathi. auri finds it endearing, kal considers it to be a disgrace to the entire bloodline. (the kids of course eventually become fluent in syldrathi, but sometimes when they’re older respond to him in english just to tick him off)

Follow up to my Neridaa fan theory:

why did syldra cease to exist? I know the star was collapsed into a black hole but how did that make it uninhabitable? How did it kill 10 billion people? Did Mr. Sai’nuit fire the neridaa at the planet?

like yes the star collapses and it’s very sad but the amount of mass remains constant, it’s not like the planet was flung off into deep space.

The voice actor of Tyler Jones in the German audio book has an EXTREMLY deep voice. Every time Tyler spoke in another p.o.v. their voice actor tried to imitate his low voice (which was quite hilarious).

Now in my head Tyler Jones always speaks with a Batman like voice😂
