The most difficult part is there's so many ways to install things!
You can do it with a portable package (snap, flatpak, AppImage), but that usually requires more software.
You can install with the system package manager, or if you feel like it, you can download and install the packages manually!
Maybe get a raw bin off the website and chmod'u+x it!
Today I feel like getting a executable from npm/pip/cargo.
Or, just maybe, i'll have to use wine/a vm/steam and it will be a Windows app!
And the best part? Everyone packages for different places, so you never know where to get it until you check their website/github page!
Or until you check your package manager's website. (esp when the package manager doesn't let you search packages)
Linux install
Nothing like trying to install something on Linux after being a native not-Linux user to show how much pent up aggression you have in your body.
Any other operating system, double click and done. This operating system? Fifteen commands and lines to install something.
It's good to learn new skills, doesn't mean I need to be happy about a 40 minute side mission on my way to learn new skills.

Linux may be one of the best operating system available out there that offers great performance even on an out-dated hardware. It powers many devices including smartphones (yes, Android is also Linux). The uniqueness of Linux is that unlike Windows or OS X it comes in different versions called distros.
However, Linux struggles to gain even 2% market share on the desktop. While we can cite many reasons for this, one main reason is that most users will struggle to choose the right distros for their needs.
See, Linux is just the heart, the kernel, of any Linux-based system. It is the distro makers that determines the rest – the user interface design, the installation process and application support are all up to the distro’s creator. Android and Chrome OS, for instance, are both based on the Linux kernel.
Of course, we cannot just create a list of operating systems and say “these are the best”, not when so often Linux can be very task-oriented. To that end, we have compiled a list of quintessential distros that will serve as a good desktop OS, which both enthusiasts and newbies alike can enjoy.

1. Debian

Debian offers an incredible amount of packages, and almost any software that exists for Linux has a Debian package. It has a graphical installer to guide you through the process, and you can install any Desktop Environment (KDE, Gnome, XFCE, and etc.,) you wish, as they are all supported.
Debian is suitable for users who want a stable and secure system and those who do not want to update their apps often. 3. Fedora
Fedora is another distribution with a relatively short release cycle and with a focus on having the latest packages. It is often referred to as a “bleeding-edge” distribution, meaning that it is focused on innovation and latest technologies, sometimes at the cost of stability.

OpenSUSE uses RPM package management system and has KDE as the main desktop environment. For compile-time adaptations, I think you'd want to use abs (Arch Build System), but I have very little familiarity with that. And I don't have much experience with building pacman packages.
There are some differences for dealing with other things already installed, or where multiple options for dependencies might make sense for the user -- pacman intentionally doesn't have an equivalent to the apt alternatives syntax, for example.
The bigger one is how it handles things that are already present. For example, configuration files from a previous install of the same program before an upgrade: apt (dpkg) will prompt you whether you want to keep your old configuration, use the new configuration, or deconflict them yourself (unless you've applied a default rule/argument when starting the apt command).
With pacman, the new files will be saved with a .pacnew suffix, and users are expected to deconflict them -- most package maintainers will have commands set up to do so as one-line options, but pacdiff is the command-line tool for doing it (albeit one that drops you into vim, so... probably not the best tool for doing it). There's a similar suffix (.pacsave) for configuration files as packages are uninstalled.
In practice, install hooks in both environments can do almost anything, so it's more about what apt does for you rather than what pacman can't do, and there's no shortage of AURs that add users or screw around with system configuration stuff.
((Though pacman has even less consistency for execution order where multiple packages with hooks are installed simultaneously than apt, so that can be a fun surprise.))
What... exactly... is it that makes Arch so proud of pacman? I mean I get that package managers aren't identical so probably if you make a new one there's some deficit with the old one that you're trying to fix but what, exactly?
