The WIP Big Bang 2024 Round Is (Not Quite) Officially Over!

So it's December 1st where I am (where the heck has the year gone?!?) and that means the "official" posting period for the 2024 WIP Big Bang is now over. However, unofficial posting continues until December 31st, so if you haven't finished your fic or art, you have until then to post to Tumblr or Dreamwidth and be included in the 2024 Master Post.

Next up is the International Fanworks Day Mini Bang! That starts January 1st and lasts up until February 22nd, with posting starting February 15th and lasting for a week. This is for works that didn't make it in time to be included in the 2024 Master Post as well as fics 7,500 words and under (no new art for this one...that will come up during the next WIP Reverse Bang in April).

Everyone should be super proud of themselves for all the work they put into their fics, even if they had to drop out or didn't finish by November 30th. The mods are all pleased with how much work everyone did and all the great fanworks that got released into the wild! The 2024 Master Post should be up within the next week on Tumblr and Dreamwidth.

Story. That's a Wrap

[Panel 1: The necromancer , revealed to be a teenager with a resemblence to Thadeus Becile, with curly hair and wearing large round glasses. He sits on the ground, (SFX) huffing and grimacing. Hare, from off panel, says, "So the big, bad necromancer was just some pimply teen." Locksmith, also off panel, says, "A child playing with forces greater than himself. What do we do with him?"]

[Panel 2: The Skull's in-game character ripping pages out of the tome the necromancer previously held. He says, out of character, "The book is the source of his power, right? Tear it up and tell the kid to scram."]

[Panel 3: Back at the game table, Riker yawns. Scratch looks over sympathetically, making the first part of the ASL sign for 'wrap up,' and says, "And with that, let's wrap up for tonight."]

[Panel 4: The Jack worriedly leans over to Scratch and asks, "But what about the little girl?" Scratch happily makes the ASL sign for 'next,' saying, "That's something you can look into next time!"]

[Panel 5: The Jack looks across the table to Locksmith, who is beginning to stand up. The Jack says, "Oh (ellipses) Next time (ellipses) of course (ellipses)" Locksmith says, "Come, The Jack. We have an event to attend."]

[Panel 6: Riker arches an eyebrow at Locksmith and asks, "You're taking him out this late?" Locksmith replies, "The night abounds with activity."]

[Panel 7: Riker also begins to stand, looking weary. He says, "Well, I need to sleep, since Skull wants his maintenance done by dawn, like usual." Scratch, making the ASL sign for 'story,' says, "If anyone wants to work on their character backstory, I can lend them the guidebook."]

[Panel 8: Dee moves to Scratch, and he hands her the guidebook from the table while making the ASL sign for 'thank you.' Scratch says, "And we have a taker. Here you go, Dee. Thanks for playing!"]

[Panel 9: Dee, holding the book to her chest, turns to Hare and says, "You're helping me write tonight." Hare, appalled, says, "What?! Why?!"]

[Panel 10: Dee pointedly jabs a finger into Hare's chest, baring her teeth as she says, "Because you (all caps) OWE ME for (all caps) LEAVING." Hare looks down at her miserably and says, "Can't you just kick my aft? Have mercy."]

[Panel 11: Dee starts to leave, Hare slumping after her in defeat. Hare says, "[sigh] Fine, fine. Night, you weirdos." From off panel, The Jack calls, "Hare--!!"]

[Panel 12: Hare looks over at The Jack sadly and asks, "(ellipses) Yeah, Jacky?" The Jack hesitates, glancing at Locksmith watching him in the background, and says, "(ellipses)"]

[Panel 13: The Jack nervously wrings his hands and says, "(ellipses) Thank you (pause) for playing with us."]

FIC: Coffee Shop Soundtrack: 11/11 (MLB; Luka)

Notes: Ok, here we go…last chapter.  It still feels kinda surreal, that this fic is finally done and out there.  Thank you to everyone who stuck with me through it – from back when it was still an idea I wasn’t sure I’d be able to run with, to all the time it spent festering (and the hard times that made it necessary to fester), to the last run of “ok no let’s do this”.  To everyone who’s read and commented and shown their support.  This was a hard one, but I think I needed to do this.  And hey, now that’s done, maybe we can finally get back to the Epic and happier times?  Maybe?  😂

Anyway.  Thank you.  🖤 Let's wrap up this happy-ish ending.

Chapter Eleven: That Sunday Life Moved On

Much as Luka would have liked to – much as they both would have liked to – they couldn’t hide away in Marinette’s bed forever.  It was still the weekend, and weekends meant work.  Tom and Sabine might have taken pity on Marinette and given her the day off from bakery duty after her big show, but Luka still had an evening shift in a few hours.

“Call out,” Marinette wheedled, trying to hold the bag with his work clothes out of reach.  He rolled his eyes and easily plucked the straps from her fingers, dipping to kiss her as she pouted up at him.  She was sprawled out on her chaise – where they had both ended up at some point during the day, curled up around each other as they had watched silly animal videos on her phone – and had tried to tug him back down to her as they’d kissed.  “Tell Elise we’re celebrating.  She’ll understand.”

“You know I can’t,” he sighed, pecking one last kiss against her lips.  “I’ve been on thin enough ice lately.  I’m not pushing it any more than I need to.”

He hadn’t wanted to leave her, but he needed to get back to the boat.  He needed a shower and a fresh uniform.  Marinette had argued that he could do all those things there – they had a shower, and she could throw his clothes in the machine while he washed – and it had almost been enough to tempt him.

“I’ll stop by tomorrow,” he promised, stealing one last kiss.  “I don’t have work until Wednesday after tonight.”

Ending the challenge with a genuine smile. Today was a good day!

I spent the day training the new girl. She's quiet. She listens! She's comfortable working with queer patients (and coworkers). She speaks Spanish. She knows Epic. I hope this isn't the honeymoon phase, I hope she's as cool as I think she is. I'm optimistic though.

And then I got a compliment from someone I admire! 🥰

And now I'm smashing some edibles so I can get hungry enough to eat dinner. They're snickerdoodles and they're pretty good.
