Chapter 18: Keyblade Graveyard
________________________________________________________________
Notes: Sorry that I made you guys wait so long. My brain and inspiration were held hostage by another fandom. Then I got distracted by all the excitement of "ReMind"… before my brain was recaptured by the other fandom again. It's been a bit insane and I do apologize. Thankfully, due to the fact that events have already been altered a bit in this story, I don't have to worry about trying to incorporate everything from the DLC. I might snag some bits and pieces if they would fit in, but there will be no stable time-loop heart-hopping shenanigans in this fic.
I do have some good news. There is a planned sequel for this fic. It'll be titled "Parental Instinct" (with the duology being called "Instinctively Family"). It'll be a bit more domestic with less combat that this one. Mostly it'll be focused on the question of "what now" as Lea, Roxas, Xion, and even Isa try to move forward, building a life outside of the Organization and Keyblade Wars while also dealing with the fallout of everything. That should give you something to look forward to.
________________________________________________________________
Lea knew what they were doing. The real Organization XIII was doing the exact same thing that Larxene and Marluxia tried a few days ago. They were throwing as many Heartless and such as possible at the guardians in the hopes of wearing them down. And as soon as the guardians of light were exhausted and vulnerable, that was when Master Xehanort's followers would strike.
It was a good plan. Beat them down with sheer numbers. Wave after wave of Heartless, some scattered Nobodies, and the strange creatures that Ventus hurriedly identified as Unversed at one point. Eventually someone would make a mistake. He could see their logic. Lea might have tried the same strategy in their position.
But none of them were giving up yet.
Once more, Lea found himself in the middle of a cluster of protective Keyblade-wielding teenagers. The rest were spread out, but his self-appointed bodyguards kept close. He did appreciate the gesture and help. But mostly he appreciated that he could keep track of them easier that way.
They'd gotten more coordinated on how they split up the job of giving him backup. Xion had perfected a high-level Reflect spell at some point, the transparent shield similar to the one he'd glimpsed Aqua using. Lea kept finding it around him at regular intervals. Xion cast that spell whenever she thought he might get overwhelmed. Kairi's continuous use of Cura helped with the hits that he couldn't avoid and his general strength. As much as he wanted to deny it, he knew that he wasn't up to his normal energy levels. And the larger Heartless never had a chance to get close before Roxas drove it back. The boy channeled all his understandable anger and frustration into every swing. And occasionally the kids would team up together to pull off a combo attack, clearing out large chunks of the enemy from around Lea.
He was mildly surprised when Roxas, Xion, and Ventus worked together on a large clump of Nobodies approaching through the stone chasm. Apparently Roxas had set aside his discomfort with the other boy either temporarily or permanently. Or at least enough of that unease was gone that they could compliment each other's fighting styles. It was honestly a relief. There were enough complicated and uncomfortable issues. It would be far easier if at least some of Lea's various friends could get along.
When they got Isa back, he couldn't imagine how awkward that would be.
When. Not if.
None of them had much of a chance to catch their breaths though. The second wave of Heartless were just as numerous as the first. And Lea doubted that Sora would be able to summon up another magic rollercoaster to tear through them.
Not that Sora wasn't already doing an impressive job. While everyone else focused on the task of maintaining the perimeter and keeping more enemies from spilling over, Sora, Donald, and Goofy were in the center of everything. The trio were dealing with the nightmarish amalgamation.
Lea didn't know of a better way to describe the Demon Tide except as a mass of smaller Heartless clustered together. A swarm of Shadows that travel in waves and narrow twisters that thrash and lash out. It twisted and swirled through the air before diving into the ground through patches of darkness, bursting out somewhere else to attack from a new angle. The thing moved like something between a serpent and a thin cyclone. And Sora, Donald, and Goofy managed to corral the thrashing mass of Heartless while the rest of the guardians remained on the outskirts.
And then Sora's Keyblade turned into a pair of arrowguns. Because apparently that was a trick that he picked up somewhere. Almost like that weird suit of armor turning a Keyblade into a whip.

Descendants Universe: A Theory
Reposting this from my old OOC from my old group, because I may end up deleting it soon (may not, too, I have no idea) and I don’t want to lose it.
Important works to know: Kingdom Keepers (I’ll explain it if you don’t know it!) and the Fantasia movies. I will explain any others that crop up for minor references (Percy Jackson, the Sisters Grimm)
AKA: A universe where things actually make a bit more sense in terms of backstory.
Let me open with this: I don’t believe the Fairy Godmother actually created the Isle, the barrier, or brought the dead villains back to life to put them on the Isle. This is something heavily implied/established in the franchise, but I highly digress. I believe this is a front for the real person who did this, who I will get to in just a moment.
My evidence: If the Fairy Godmother is that powerful, I don’t believe Auradon has any plausible reason for her to be a headmistress at a prep school. Especially not if magic is banned, because these are all “good” kids, who wouldn’t break the rules like that. She should be serving closer on the King’s council, as some form of magical advisor. If they wanted her before, to set up the Isle and everything else, then surely someday they might believe her to be more useful again as a magical guide.
The only reason I could hear Disney trying to argue is her being there in case the barrier fails– but what reason would Auradon have to believe this barrier, created by the “most powerful” woman, would fail? And, considering it is her own barrier, I don’t believe that, if Auradon thought for a second it might fail, they’d want the same woman who created the barrier to be at the school protecting the children– if her magic failed the first time, then why should it work now?
And sure, it’s possible that she was put in charge when Ben decided to bring over the Core 4– but I don’t believe that, either. Because of Jane, and her character– she’s awkward, and doesn’t do well with her peers, in the first film. Speaking as someone who had her mother teaching at the school she attended– I get why. It’s awkward having a parent in any teaching/administrative position at your school! And that means this can’t be a new thing, because Jane would have already had good friends before if she hadn’t been there before, and wouldn’t have been half as “odd” in the first film.
Besides that, it’s terribly out of character for the Fairy Godmother.
Now, then, let’s list some “good” (or neutral with possible good intentions) characters who have the kind of power we need.
Merlin, the Enchantress from Beauty and the Beast, the Blue Fairy, or the wizard Yen Sid are all good options to pick from. I, personally, believe it is Yen Sid.
Why? Well, this is where that Sisters Grimm knowledge comes into play: the Grimm curse in the books is that, a Grimm must remain trapped in Ferryport Landing’s barrier alongside all of its citizens, the Everafters. This was established when the spell created around Ferryport Landing in the first place was cast. The only major Auradonian character, classified as good, that we know for certain is on the Isle is Yen Sid, and while the reasons given are that he was sent by the King to teach the naturally magical students science, I don’t believe this is the case. If the King cared so little about these kids’ diets (trash), living conditions (trash), and family lives (abuse!!!), then there’s no way I’ll believe he cared about their education. What would be more plausible, however, is if the incredibly powerful wizard was the one to establish the Isle, bring back the dead villains, and place the barrier on the Isle… thereby trapping himself, because, as stated in ABC’s Once Upon a Time (a Disney property, if you wanted that to tie in), “All magic comes with a price.”
“But, if Fairy Godmother didn’t create the Isle or its barrier, how did her wand bring it down at the coronation?”
Excellent question! But, may I draw your attention back to the limo? Yen Sid obviously didn’t make that happen, because when it would become necessary, he would have already been on the Isle, permanently, under its magic-proof barrier. This leaves FGM, Blue, Merlin, and the Enchantress (who I personally are all best suited for a magical council of some sort) to sort out how to get the Core 4 off the Isle when the time comes. I believe this is why FGM’s magic is able to open the barrier– the magic that opens it and creates the bridge from the limo even has the same effect as her wand, and we all know she’s good with modes of transportation. However it can only be used in limited quantities, a la the “midnight” part of Cinderella.
So, still with me? Because now, let’s talk about how Yen Sid captured gods.
Hades, we know, is on the Isle. And if Yen Sid exists, it’s only plausible that Chernabog exists, and obviously, would be Isle-bound… get to him in a moment. How did Yen Sid, who, while a powerful wizard, doesn’t really have this kind of power, trap a literal god?
Well, possibly, it was with help from the other gods… however, they’ve been known from the film they were established in (Hercules) for not wanting to meddle in the affairs of mortals. So if the Auradonians wanted to establish a place to keep their villains, Zeus&all would probably leave it to them to deal with.
This is where Percy Jackson’s mythos lore comes in– and, fun fact, Disney DID publish those books, so this might not even be a stretch. In Percy Jackson, we witness the death of a god– Pan. Pan dies because not enough people truly believe in him, which weakened him and would eventually kill him. In Descendants, we know that pretty much everything in Disney ever is canon and real– but that’s a LOT of mythology that just got confirmed. I personally believe this either leads to a very scattered belief system (with only a handful of people believing in each option, weakening the gods) or to a severely disillusioned belief system (”how do we know they’re gods? They could just be using magic”). In either case, if we apply that same logic of less believers=weaker gods, this means that it’s entirely possible Auradon’s faith system severely weakened Hades, allowing for him to be captured.
But what about Chernabog?
Personally, I believe in this theory, that Chernabog is the Isle itself. These spells are held up, not just by Yen Sid’s creation of them and him upholding his cost, but also by, possibly, the previous characters I’ve mentioned– Merlin, Blue, Enchantress, etc. using their outside magic– hence why, though magic is banned, Auradon hasn’t put its own barrier of sorts to keep magic from working in Auradon– to keep him asleep.
Remember how I said Kingdom Keepers was important? Well, for those of you unfamiliar with the masterpieces these books truly are, allow me to explain the plot.
In them, some of the concept of Descendants is the same– the Disney characters are still real. However, they exist in our world, rather than in a big mess of lands of their own, and can only be seen by a select few at first. They roam the parks at night after closing. The main characters– Finn, Philby, Maybeck, Charlene, and Willa– all modeled to be “Disney Host Interactive” characters, or DHIs– a hologram tour guide of the parks designed for a better guest experience. However, there was a second purpose– the Imagineers knew of the presence of the characters (though they could not see them) and felt something big was coming, and designed the DHI program to allow 5 teenagers to be the ones to find out what.
That “what”, as it turns out, would be most of the forces of evil uniting as the “Overtakers”. As you could probably gather from the name, they’re bent on taking over the parks and turning them into the epicenter of darkness, which would spread throughout the world– as Disney is a center of good magic. They are seemingly led by Maleficent, and two of her big cohorts include the Evil Queen and Cruella De Vil. Jafar plays a main role in some books, and Ursula makes a later appearance as a force who does NOT work for Maleficent (though she’s also not on the Keepers’ side). Maleficent, in later books, uses some of her magic to put a spell on various characters and make them “OTKs”, kids who were spelled (and given green eyes) to work for the Overtakers in stopping the Keepers. Seeing any familiar parallels yet?
Now, you may have noticed I said the Overtakers are “seemingly” led by Maleficent. She is believed to be the true power for quite a bit– and she is shown to lead the forces, appear most often, and have a major role in the plans. However, we later discover she is working in the service of someone far, far more powerful: Chernabog. She leads the forces of the Overtakers because Chernabog is asleep, and the only way they will be able to wake him, is by taking over the parks. He is their true master: once they have the parks, he will awaken to keep them under their grasp. I believe there could be a similar plan/theme in Descendants.
“Now, hang on a second. Didn’t you agree with the theory that Chernabog IS the Isle?”
I did, and do. In the books, Chernabog has still been shown to somehow communicate with Maleficent, despite being asleep, and we learn she is only carrying out his wishes. I believe this is also the case in Descendants. Maleficent appears as top dog on the Isle, has the best space, keeps some other villains in line, is often referred to as its “queen”, similar to the Kingdom Keepers series. The barrier forces him to remain in a heavily “asleep” state, but he has enough power to communicate with someone– Maleficent, who has been called “the mistress of all evil”.
“So why didn’t he wake up when Jane dropped the barrier?”
When Jane dropped the barrier, Yen Sid and Maleficent both would have felt it, being amongst the most powerful characters on the Isle. Maleficent acted on this immediately, escaping the Isle to get to the Coronation. Yen Sid, on the other hand, would have immediately worked to bring the barrier back up and keep Chernabog asleep. So though Maleficent had time to escape, the others did not because he would have replaced the barrier in a short amount of time. It’s why no other villains got out during all of the drama at coronation. As far as they know, the barrier went up again as fast as it went down. It’s either that, or it was brief because that’s how the Fairy Godmother’s magic worked in the first place, especially with Jane not knowing how to use her natural magic. Either theory is plausible.
I could even believe the plan was for Chernabog to wake up, but the backup plan was always going to be Maleficent getting off the Isle and trying to get her hands on various magical items to free Chernabog.
And that is what I believe the be the most correct, most plausible, least hole-filled backstory/setup of the Descendants universe. I know there are still holes in my story, I don’t deny that, but I think this is far more correct than some of the nonsense Disney has handed me.

Monday Night Raw #109
May 1, 1995 (Taped April 24, 1995) Civic Auditorium Omaha, NE Announcers: Vince McMahon & Jerry Lawler
1) Allied Powers defeat George Anderson & Ron Hagan when British Bulldog pinned Anderson with the powerslam at 2:41
Scott: Wow we’ve watered down the jobber pool to these faceless guys? After a flat, lumbering opener at WrestleMania XI, the Allied Powers are trying to get themselves into the tag title picture. Davey Boy goes with the flow on any creative plans, but you know Lex Luger can’t be thrilled about being in a mid-card tag team, instead of turning heel and feuding with Diesel. I’m sure at this point that would have been better for him. I guess last week’s live show garnered record ratings. And there’s the Duckman references and we are barely five minutes into the match. This was a squash, but the other news we find out is that the Intercontinental Title was hung up due to a controversial Jeff Jarrett/Bob Holly match. Grade: DUD
JT: Welcome to this week’s episode of Raw where we are coming at you via videotape, still in Omaha and still with Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler in the booth. We are closing in on the inaugural In Your House so we have a lot of business to take care of tonight. We kick things off with a lengthy recap of the Bam Bam Bigelow/Diesel match and fall out and the opening things up in the arena is the fairly new team of Lex Luger and Davey Boy Smith, the Allied Powers, battling George Anderson and Ron Hagan. The Power picked up a big win at WrestleMania and are seemingly being positioned as future top contenders to our Tag Team Champions, Owen Hart & Yokozuna. Vince notes that least week’s Raw had record setting viewership, so good on them, as despite the cool product it seems the TV audience has strengthen a bit. Jerry Lawler is still trying to get Bret Hart to sign a contract for a match and Vince reveals that the Hitman will be here to confront the King tonight. Vince also tells us that 1-2-3 Kid has an injured neck and is out of action and as part of that, Bob Holly replaced him in an IC Title match with Jeff Jarrett over the weekend. The match had a controversial ending and as a result the title was held up. Luger & Davey make really quick work of their opponents and pick up another win as they continue to build momentum week-to-week. Grade: DUD
*** We head back to yesterday’s Action Zone where we had a controversial finish to the Intercontinental Title match between Jeff Jarrett and Bob Holly. Both men picked up tainted falls but Holly ended up leaving with the strap. After some confusion and referee debates, Jack Tunney decreed the title is vacated and the two would face off in a rematch for the gold on this weekend’s Action Zone. ***
2) Bob Holly defeats Butler Stevens with a high cross body at 2:48
Scott: What kind of throwaway name is Butler Stevens? We’ve been told that the Intercontinental Title is vacant after yesterday’s shenanigans with Jeff Jarrett and Bob Holly. They will wrestle this coming Sunday on Action Zone to decide who the champ is. I love how these jobbers get ribbed by Vince & Lawler, that apparently Stevens is a pest control guy. This is another throwaway trash match. Grade: DUD
JT: Back to the ring, our would-be IC Champion Bob Holly jogs to the ring for a match with Butler Stevens and his Gor-Tex tights. Random commentary tonight as Lawler is discussing the day jobs of these jobbers. In our last match, we had a fie science major and now Stevens is in pest control. Vince and King also talk about the issues between Razor Ramon and Jeff Jarrett and their upcoming showdown at In Your House. Holly nabs the win and is prepped for his huge match this Sunday as he looks to defeat Double J and officially nab the IC title. Grade: DUD
*** Todd Pettengill is on the scene with this week’s In Your House report. The show comes to us live in two weeks time on Mother’s Day and what a perfect gift for Mom it would be. And it only costs $14.95! Here are the matches discussed:
Razor Ramon vs. Jeff Jarrett & Roadie Diesel vs. Psycho Sid – WWF Title Bret Hart vs. Hakushi
Oh, the WWF is also giving away a house! Yes, that is right. Get your entries submitted today for a chance to win a wonderful vacation home in Orlando, FL. It all goes down in two weeks so call your cable company today! ***
3) Mantaur defeats Sonny Rogers with a powerslam at 2:25
Scott: This guy was still with the WWF at this point? This gimmick is as idiotic as Doink is at this point. The WWF needs to get rid of these terrible gimmicks that would have worked in 1987. Seeing Cornette manage this guy was like when Bobby Heenan managed the Missing Link. That made no sense either. Vince & Lawler are starting get some chemistry, which Vince hasn’t had with anyone since Savage left back in November. Vince says Todd & Stephanie will be doing Mania from the house being given away on May 14. I wonder why Vince didn’t do this back in the late 80s when he really had money. Mantaur wins. Grade: DUD
JT: The hits keep on coming as Mantaur charges to the ring alongside Jim Cornette for a showdown with Sonny Rogers. This mid card is really mired with a lot of useless bodies. I mean, this guy is big, can work a bit and has Cornette to talk to him but why not give him a basic roughhouse gimmick and push him a bit? Instead he looks like a goof and has zero credibility when he is basically a buffalo. Vince and King talk about Bam Bam Bigelow and the Corporation, saying Sid cajoled the troops into backing him against Bammer. It is also cool that Todd and Stephanie will be hosting Mania from the Orlando house this weekend. That is a neat touch and a good last hard sell. Mantaur wins and continues going absolutely nowhere fast. Grade: DUD
*** The suddenly red hot Psycho Sid heads to the ring alongside Ted DiBiase for his match with Razor Ramon. Ramon is out next but as he poses in front of his pyrotechnics, Sid steps through the spraying fireworks and levels Ramon. Sid continues to beat Ramon down and drop him with a pair of powerbombs, ending the match before it even starts. Diesel would eventually make the save. ***
4) Adam Bomb defeats Dave Sigfrid with a top rope clothesline at 3:41
Scott: Before this match, some thoughts on the segment that just happened. It’s great to see Razor Ramon back on Raw, and facing one of my favorite guilty pleasure guys in history, even with his thimble of ability. I was curious if Sid could actually beat Diesel at In Your House. Sid joining the Corporation does help them also. The match never gets going, as Sid jumps the Bad Guy and powerbombs him twice. Diesel runs in and Sid runs away. I have to say, I don’t like this Sid running away from a fight. The NWA Sid would have gone nose to nose with Diesel and DiBiase should have moved to get Sid out of the ring. Instead Sid runs away like a cowardly WWF heel. That’s totally neutering his character.
Now back to the ring. This is probably one of the worst Raws in a while in terms of in-ring action. The one match everybody wanted to see ends in a no-contest mess, and the rest is unwatchable squashes. It is announced that Adam Bomb will face Mabel at IYH. I don’t like the prospect of that. I wanted one of those Adam Bomb footballs. Grade: DUD
JT: Coming off a pretty hot segment with Pyscho Sid and Razor Ramon, we head to the ring where Adam Bomb hits the ring for a match with Dave Sigfrid. Vince notes that Bomb will face Mabel at IYH, Mabel’s first big match as a heel singles star. Back to that previous segment, they are doing a nice job establish Sid as a monster heel. He has run roughshod over everyone since attacking Shawn Michaels the night after WrestleMania and his tear has been reminiscent of his 1992 run of terror. Here he backed off from Diesel but he certainly has to be in the champion’s head heading into Syracuse. Vince and King talk about Bomb’s chances with Mabel in two weeks and also chat about Bret Hart. Bomb mows through Sigfrid and picks up a TV win as he rolls toward his clash with Mabel. Grade: DUD
*** Ray Rougeau is backstage and tries to chat with Razor Ramon, but he is being attended to by officials and Diesel, still hurting too much to talk. Rougeau says somebody has to stop Sid. We then check out a quick vignette of the soon-to-be debuting Hunter Hearst-Helmsley. ***
5) Men on a Mission defeat Bill Duke & Kevin Krueger when Mabel pins Duke with a belly-to-belly suplex at 4:37
Scott:Wow this episode is getting worse and worse. MOM are now full blown heels as they are wearing more black and Mabel has skull & crossbones on his boots. The episode is loaded with all the top flight guys except Shawn Michaels (who’s injured) but the actual matches this week are complete crap. At least the jobbers all got paid, it’s like the old NWA Saturday Night episodes when we would have 11 or 12 matches and all the jobbers got paid to work about four minutes. Vince is awful, expecting MOM to get disqualified for “poor sportsmanship”. So pitiful and milktoasty. Grade: DUD
JT: Time for our final match of the evening as Men on a Mission hit the ring for tag team action. Both Mabel and Mo have cleaned up their look a bit, ditching all the hair dye and sporting jet black hair and darker overall tones in their costumes. Vince plugs King Ralph, this Thursday’s USA Movie special. That is a classic! Set your VCRs now! Vince now clarifies that the Mabel vs. Bomb match at IYH will be a King of the Ring qualifier, so there you go. The commentary really focuses on the size and power of Mabel here, rebuilding him as a threat. We kind of have more than one Mo here here as MOM Mo tussles with Krueger, who has a haircut like Mo of the Three Stooges. MOM mess around a bit but dominate this one, grabbing the win after a Mabel belly-to-belly. The big man is prepped for Syracuse where a coveted KOTR spot will be on the line. Grade: DUD
*** Bret Hart heads to ringside to confront Jerry Lawler about his open challenge. Hart calls Lawler a liar and says he has a commitment to wrestle Hakushi at In Your House and that is what he is going to do in Syracuse. Lawler says Hart is spineless and ducking him. Hart tells him to shut up and says he will also accept King’s challenge and will wrestle him that same night after he defeats Hakushi. ***
Final Analysis
Scott:These matches are becoming worse and worse. Sure we have some great personalities and characters but the workrate in this company right now is pretty much Bret, Shawn, and maybe one or two others. The main event workers are utter crap. Diesel needs Bret and Shawn to move him along, otherwise we are in trouble. The prospect of this Diesel/Sid match being good is very low. The crowd was hot, but I certainly think it was doctored up a bit. With Backlund vanquished Bret Hart seems to be floating around and just having mini feuds with Jerry Lawler lingering in the distance. We still have tag team division issues and other than Razor not any credible challengers for Jarrett’s IC Title. This episode falls a bit flat as we move towards this new PPV concept. Final Grade: D+
JT: This was a very odd episode of Raw. There was some good storyline stuff in here and lots of energy throughout but man the in ring action was dog shit. A big part of that was the marquee match not happening, but that trade off was OK as the attack by Sid was really well done. They have built him up nicely as the top heel and threat to Diesel and their match at IYH has some good heat on it as of now. I will also say the crowd audio was clearly sweetened up this week and it was a bit distracting. The roar was blaring and you could see most fans just sitting around. They did pop for certain stuff, especially Bret Hart, but overall it was a bit overbearing. Also, while the card is strong up top, the middle and bottom is as weak as ever, filled with miscreants that have no chance to ever elevate up. They certainly have some talent, it just needs to be better deployed week to week. Some house cleaning and repackaging wouldn’t hurt either. Until next week! Final Grade: C-
