When I was in grade four a kid didn’t know something and everyone laughed. My teacher, with no anger in his voice, said “Hey, why are you all laughing?” And we said, “because they didn’t know.”

he said (and I’m paraphrasing all this because it’s been a long long time) “when someone doesn’t know something it just means that no one has ever told them, there’s no need to laugh. We just tell them and move on, because no one is born knowing things and people learn different information at different times.”

And I think about this a lot.
