Hi! It’s the anon who sent the ask about Tiergan and Fitz again. I’m rereading Exile rn, and honestly having some sort of resentment or bad blood between Tiergan and the Vacker kids would’ve been so interesting, especially since it’s said outright that Tiergan basically stepped into Alden’s role as leader and guide in their household after his mind broke. There wasn’t much protest other than Alvar being pissed about it tho. I think more pushback would’ve been interesting and very fun to read! Very dramatic indeed :)
Oo you! Welcome back! I agree, I think the whole feud-ish thing between Tiergan and the Vackers would've been so interesting.
Especially from Tiergan's perspective, because he was justified in his anger at Alden but he also went outside of it and took it out on the whole family. He said he'd never train anyone from Alden's family in book one, something Alvar, Biana, and Fitz have done absolutely nothing to deserve! They don't know shit about Prentice and yet they're reaping the consequences of Alden's actions via Tiergan
There could be a sort of "you made this bed now lie in it" situation for Tiergan if there had been more than just Alvar confronting him about it. Fitz's anger focused on Sophie in the scenes we saw (though Alvar did say that Fitz was blaming the whole world, not just Sophie), but if Fitz and/or Biana had joined Alvar on questioning Tiergan's motives he could face the unfairness of his actions and have to deal with the consequences.
Sure, he knows that he meant no ill will towards Alden and that now he's trying to help the family through a difficult time, but why should any of them accept that? Why should they welcome his assistance? He has given them no reason to think well of him or to want him around. He's been actively hostile towards the entire family, so it's only fair that they retaliate, that during the hardest time of their lives they don't want him there. And he has to live with that, that he took out his anger on people who didn't deserve it and now it's keeping him from helping them in a time of need.
There's also the dramatics you mentioned. Aside from the personal revelation is could be for Tiergan, argument scenes where someone whose been being nice and going along finally snaps back are so so so incredibly satisfying. that's why I was devastated when Sophie stopped arguing back in Unlocked, because it would've been so satisfying to see her give them all a piece of her mind.
And we could have that here with Tiergan and the Vackers!! Tiergan has openly laid into Alden before, and he just took it. But now that Alden's gone? There's nothing holding back the kids. They could've argued and pushed back against him and finally give back all the vitriol Tiergan spewed at their family.
I think my conclusion is that everyone should have passionate fights more often, we deserve more of those.
