The height of a boring person, Fanny randomly bursting into near poetry when she sees the stars:
“Here’s harmony!” said she; “here’s repose! Here’s what may leave all painting and all music behind, and what poetry only can attempt to describe! Here’s what may tranquillise every care, and lift the heart to rapture! When I look out on such a night as this, I feel as if there could be neither wickedness nor sorrow in the world; and there certainly would be less of both if the sublimity of Nature were more attended to, and people were carried more out of themselves by contemplating such a scene.”
SO BORING!!!
As for the meek thing, I'm so mad about it I'm writing a body-swap fanfiction where Elizabeth Bennet wakes up as Fanny Price. She quickly learns the only way to stay alive is to shut up and keep her head down. This is the girl who got yelled at for taking a tiny break while having a headache:
“That is a very foolish trick, Fanny, to be idling away all the evening upon a sofa. Why cannot you come and sit here, and employ yourself as we do? If you have no work of your own, I can supply you from the poor basket. There is all the new calico, that was bought last week, not touched yet. I am sure I almost broke my back by cutting it out. You should learn to think of other people; and, take my word for it, it is a shocking trick for a young person to be always lolling upon a sofa.”
Fanny Price is what the Bertrams have made her.
Honestly, now that my mind is reeling I just have to say FUCK anyone who thinks Fanny's character is "boring" or too meek or WHATEVER THE FUCK she has lived her whole life made to feel like a burden just by EXISTING. Her aunt constantly cuts her down and reminds her that without the Bertram's "generosity" she would be in poverty, her uncle is a domineering, abusive presence throughout the entire novel, and her cousins - aside from Edmund - belittle her and shoot her down. This is a woman who has only had ONE kind, consistent person around for the good majority of her life. HOW ELSE WAS SHE GOING TO LITERALLY SURVIVE IF NOT TO BE AS INCONSPICUOUS AS POSSIBLE??????????
#fanny price defense squad#fanny price#oh sorry I guess bursting into poetry is BORING#If Fanny wasn't so abused she might be closer to Marianne Dashwood#but she's been squashed for 8 years#Sorry she's not bright and sparkling enough for you#Thanks for the rant OP#mansfield park#Jane Austen

I genuinely want to know Usopp reaction about WHAT Y*sopp did to the Barto Club. Maybe in this arc we will see Usopp starting to realize how he has put his father in a pedestal (let me dream) and the evident differences between them.
The little we know about Yasopp is that he has been with Shanks since the beginning and, as for the rest of the crew, they make this effort to keep their Captain facade about being this great Emperor and how he doesn't let other pirates get their way and punishes them.
But in this new chapter we could see more of this, where Y*sopp steps forward and take the lead destroying the ship with ONE shot
Imagine this scenario
Y*sopp: I'm loyal to my captain and I will never go against him
*Usopp having Water 7 flashbacks*
We have seen Usopp literally fight against Luffy when their mindsets were *presumably* different. This could lead to parallels between son & father personalities and how their actions and decisions about something are nothing alike.
One goes for the kill, the other not necessarily (because you can't tell those plants didn't eat at least a few enemies)
So yeah, I'm really expecting something big when these two finally meet, I will be sad if Oda just show Usopp as a big fan of this man, for me the giants are his real father figures, his real brave warriors, not the man that abandoned him and I want Y*sopp to know this and live with that information. He needs to see how great Usopp has become and all of that WITHOUT his help!

ANSWERED: Art credit for da first Ren meme goes to @meo-eiru!!
BUT HELPPPPP THESE ARE SO FUNNY JDSGJH T_T The Moth meme + Uno meme had me CACKLING lmaoooooooo
#This has been happening a lot recently (and is by no means directed to OP) but!! Just a reminder to credit artists if you use their art!!#And it's always better to ask for permission beforehand; some artists don't like havin their art shared / reposted / reuploaded / etc.#They put in effort to create content for you to consume; so it's only fair to give them da proper credit and exposure in return!!#''Credits to the original creator'' and ''I found the image on google / pinterest / etc.'' isn't a good enough excuse >.<#If you can't find the creator; don't share it. And at the very least try to reverse image search to locate the source#But!!!! With all that being said:#Everyone is welcome to use the official 14DWY sprites/game assets without asking for my permission or giving credit!#I personally think it's ok because game assets can be found /within/ the game itself; it's not like folks have to go on a search hunt--#--to find a specific artist. They can find the art/asset within the game without having to do the extra steps.#If that makes any sense??#Like the 14DWY style is fairly recognisable if you're familiar with the game; folks don't need to reverse image search for anything.#Anyways I'm done ranting in da tags#I might make this an actual post in the future because; again; this has been happening a lot recently in the 14dwy tag/my askbox#and all these talented artists don't deserve this ;n;#Plus it shouldn't be my job to be the one giving credit..... T_T /lh /nm#OKOK I'm done for realsies now#Thank you OP for making these memes!! And sorry for ranting on what's supposed to be a lighthearted post dghjdgjhsg ^^;#💜 — 14dwy memes.#💌 — answered.#💖 — 14 days with queue.

More Sanlu headcanons? 👀
ACTUALLY YEAH I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I know Sanji’s going to be absolutely insufferable after spending two years on Momoiro, but I’ve read a lot of fics that flip it and make it so he actually becomes way more comfortable with gender and sexuality in general. Especially being around someone like Iva, who is the queen on everything gender-related! I imagine Iva slaps some sense into him bc he’s definitely got uh. Some issues with his masculinity. And that in turn makes Sanji realize that all this time he’s been chasing after women bc it’s been expected of him, that’s how he was raised, after all. But despite all that the one person he’s been thinking of nonstop isn’t Nami or Robin, it’s Luffy. And Sanji realizes he’s so so SO in love with his captain that it hurts.
Cue Sanji pining HARD for the next two years and helplessly. HELPLESSLY struggling with his feelings for Luffy, almost to the point where he makes himself sick from it. (Iva proudly says that Sanji couldn’t have picked a better man to fall for. Luffy has his approval lol) And Sanji has all these plans and things he wants to say once they meet again, but when they actually DO that all goes flying out the window.
Sanji’s too much of a pussy to work up the nerve to confess LMAO so he decides to go the more roundabout route and drop hints. WHICH finally leads to the idea I had: Sanji not so subtly singing love songs whenever Luffy happens to be in the kitchen while he’s cooking. (He’s really embarrassed about it at first but then it actually becomes pure habit after a while 😂)
The rest of the Strawhats pick up on this pretty quickly, and they think it’s A. Really cute and B. Really amusing. Sanji doesn’t really sing as much if there’s somebody else in the kitchen besides Luffy, but when it’s just the two of them!! Ohh man.
Luffy notices Sanji’s been singing more often but it will probably take him a while to connect the dots lol. Really this just came to mind bc I desperately. Desperately want Sanji to sing La Vie En Rose. And you bet your ass he pours so much of his two year pining into those lyrics that even someone as dense as Luffy notices 🤧
Also I wrote an essay in my tags and decided they needed to be shared directly on the post so yeah here you go
#Sanlu#Lusan#Luffy#Monkey D Luffy#Sanji#Black Leg Sanji#One Piece#OP#Shima answers questions#Thanks for letting me rant at you this has been confined in my brain for too long now lol#Also correction I think the original La Vie En Rose is entirely in French but the version *I* know is translated to English so

Having of those moments where I wish to yeet the like button into the sun or maybe make it so there was setting you could turn on so that people can only reblog posts (even better with the minimum requirement of adding at least one tag)!!
It's kind of absurd that one of my fics is getting close to 500 notes while simultaneously being one I've had the least actual human interactions come from. Like...... come on, that's now how it should be AT ALL!
Don't get me wrong, I'm so thrilled people are clearly finding it and I guess enjoying it(??) but just having endless likes without people letting me know what they enjoyed about it or even if they liked it kind of makes me sad. That's not why I want to share my writing here!
I love having those little human connections with others. I don't ever want my writing to feel transactional. I would love to talk to more people about things I've written. It's truly one of the best feelings and I would hate to lose that, the more I write or the more notes my fics get. Please don't be shy!! I get the social anxiety, but there is no reason to be. I am truly just a Din Djarin obsessed loser.
Anyway, whine over. I don't want to focus on the negatives here and I appreciate every single person who has ever left a positive interaction with something I've written. You are truly a light!
#i don't JUST like posts too often#really the only posts i dont reblog but like are to save for later or if it's too personal/explicit#or i guess i have nothing to add and OP has said it all yknow#but if i see some writing or art i love then hell yeah i always force myself to add at least one tag i like just so the artist/author sees#otherwise it feels like a hollow transaction and i really want people to know i appreciate their art more than just pressing a button yknow#and I KNOW it's intimidating at first to interact with others!! TRUST ME i get it and i'm still awful at it#but just one little comment can make someone feel so good about their writing... why wouldn't someone want to try that at least#especially if you enjoyed it!!! even a key smash or a string of emojis!!!#and the death of the tumblr tag is SO SAD because where else am i meant to talk to you lot?#i mean these tags are longer than my actual post and that's the beauty of tumblr#you don't have to perceive me down here but you can if you wish and i love you for that!#and it's a nice way to organise your blog to make it navigable for others#ANYWAY said i was done whining and continued whining down here so there's that LOL but i always want to interact with more people#please do not be afraid of reaching out to me! scroll through my blog for 5 seconds and you'll see what a nerdy loser i am#akdjgds i mean aren't we all here#spud rants#writing#but thanks again to anyone who leaves nice comments im giving you a (consensual) forehead smooch MWAH

So a take on TOTK’s ending I’ve seen quite a bit of is the idea that it deprived all dramatic weight from Zelda’s sacrifice and that she should have suffered the consequences of her choice (I.e. stay a dragon forever or come back as a dragon human hybrid). Also said take accuses the ending of being cheap, lazy, unearned, and a deus ex machina. This strikes me as a shallow reading of the text and another example of how some people think punishment (or in this case “dying for a cause”) is the only viable ending for someone who made the choice Zelda made. It really rubs me the wrong way given all the development and tragedy she faced in both games. What are your thoughts?
The thing is that she is bound, whether she likes it or not, by destiny. The cycle of reincarnation of Ganon (Demise’s hatred) is NOT over at the end of Totk. Each time he resurrects, it is vital that a warrior with the soul of the hero, and a girl with the blood of the goddess appear to fight him. If Zelda stayed a dragon? Well then the world is doomed, because the goddess’s bloodline ends with her.
To me it’s not even a question of “throwing away her sacrifice” or having a “cheap happy ending”. It’s a matter of the fact that through whatever means it took, she had to turn back from a dragon for the world to have any hope of survival the next time ganon resurrects.
We don’t know if this specific hero and princess will see him again. Botw/Totk Link and Zelda may or may not have just had their last battle with him- we don’t know yet. Totk’s ending is left open to possibilities. Through what she says, we know Zelda will try her best to bring forever peace to hyrule, but we don’t know if she will face ganon again to achieve that, or if she will only be able to simply restore the kingdom, but not stop the cycle.
But no matter what, the next time that damn incarnation of hatred comes back, she or her descendent has to be there. The sword can do a lot, but the hero has always needed someone with the goddess’ power to seal the evil as well.
No matter how much we want a lasting sacrifice, the legend of Zelda is, at its heart, a cycle. A legend that repeats, over and over. And each piece of the cycle must live on, as least until demise’s curse is (hopefully eventually) broken. We have to have a surviving Zelda or the cycle is broken and evil wins.
(Also it does seem a little unnecessarily cruel to insist that the girl who has now been stuck fighting evil and exerting sacred power for a hundred through thousands of years TWICE have a terrible ending. She suffered enough- enough that a dragon shed tears. Let her get her well earned rest- the world needs her as a person. The ending is not unearned- on the contrary getting her life back is exactly what she earned. Don’t insist on a sad ending just for the sake of sadness. There is enough darkness, so why not enjoy the ending rather than enforcing suffering on someone who deserves a chance to live? There is already plenty of drama that can be watched anytime in the memories.)
I think all viewpoints are valid, and I can understand their point. While I do not know everything, I personally prefer to look at the lore- the actual roots of the story that lead to the endings. And the lore of Zelda is pretty clear- those goddess gals gotta live on.
And as far as the emotional part? I love the ending. I don’t like sappy stuff, and I’m not crying happy tears, but that ending is far more fulfilling than leaving the world (and Link) missing a really awesome person.
Anyways that’s my two cents worth :) It’s not a matter of what ending we wanted- she has to survive, or the next time ganon comes around, the world is doomed.
#thanks for asking I’ve been wanting to rant about that#I just think it goes back to the lore#the world NEEDS her role to continue#Totk spoilers#totk ending#loz#zelda#legend of zelda#tears of the kingdom#big totk spoilers#asks#Totk#botw#Loz totk#Loz botw#also op I think you’re great#you’re just pretty cool ok#derrickwildsun

hello!!! for the ask game could i please ask for:
🍑🍈
thank you! :D
Hi!!!! Thanks for the ask 🥹
🍑 If you could make a connection between your favorite character and another work you care about (whether a crossover/fusion or a wonderfully “pretentious” literary reference) what would it be? How would it work?
(thinking about this question made me realize I'm not big on crossovers 😂) but I'd say send Lena into the wheel of time universe as a new found witch, let's see what happens
---
🍈 Who’s your blorbo and what are some of your favorite headcanons/ideas about them that repeatedly show up in your fics? Free pass to rant about blorbo opinions.
so from what I understood blorbo is favorite character so obviouSLY KARA ZOR-EL MY BELOVED
"free pass to rant about blorbo opinions" oh honey you've got a big storm coming
I feel like her pain is something that I make sure shows up a lot in my fics (or at least I try to) because I don't feel like that's something that gets explored a lot. (It does get explored but out of 20k sc works, most of them don't even try to if we're honest)
She's like!!!! Extremely smart!!!!!! I do understand the show itself always took Kara's intelligence down to make literally every other character sound smart but she IS SMART ON HER OWN!!!! not only is she number/reasoning smart (miss "we did calculous from the age of four"), she's also visual smart (miss "I remember all of them" thanks to her photographic memory), musical smart (miss voice of an angel etc etc), linguistic smart (miss learned an entire new language as a kid when she was thrown into earth + we know she speaks more than just english) AND people smart (miss convinces someone to put down the gun etc etc). I recently made a fic that made her sound SOOOO stupid it pissed me off like you'd think one of the main characters of a ship being smart would be the norm but apparently it's an idea/headcanon not everyone has 🥴
Also as an specific headcanon that was never mentioned on the show is: I think she'd totally have kids. I know not everyone agrees with that one but my god. That woman has SO much love to give, how can she not want to give that love to children. How can she not want to make sure a little orphan gets the type of love and understanding the Danvers gave to her? When it's completely in her power to be able to give them that. How can she not want to share her culture and her name and her memories with someone that can keep passing on those memories and love? She'd have kids!!!! I'll die on this hill
Also she's a JEALOUS bitch. She really is. She IS. But hear me out. She's not jealous in the horrible possessive way most people are. She's not jealous in the "I don't trust you" way. She's jealous in the "please don't leave me", "please don't abandon me", "I understand I'm not good enough for you but I love you" way. "Please be forever mine" kinda way if you know what I mean
That one post about "calling my lover mine in the way my neighborhood is mine and also everybody else's, mine to tend to, mine to care form mine to love. Mine not like possession but devotion" is soooooo Kara imo, I could write a dissertation about it. She wants her people to be hers, not possessively, but because she wants to keep being able to love them.
#writing asks#OP i am SORRY this is so long but you asked about KARA#any question about kara instantly makes me rant#thanks for asking again

This isn't meant to be a hateful ask, but you should probably stop saying you've 'fixed' Rachel's art whenever you redraw comic frames. At first, I could see why your posts were titled that, considering they were just edits made onto a frame, trying to keep in mind the style of the comic alongside it (and let me say, you absolutely nail colors when it comes to your gLOw series, I use your notes for my own art all the time). But it seems like for your more recent posts, you're redrawing panels in your own style and saying that you've 'fixed' the frames. I'm not saying that you can't do that, redraws are a core part of the LO community. But it feels as if you're putting Rachel's art style down in favor of your own. For example, your recent post. Smaller necks and 'googly eyes' (big eyes with small pupils) are usually apart of LOs more cartooney style, they aren't something as bad as LOs men's shoulder to head width, or awkward hand and feet positions, etc. The point I'm trying to make is that you should probably start titling frames you redraw in your own style as that, a redraw, not 'fixing' someone else's art style
EDIT: oh god I totally went off with this, BIG apologies for the essay dump in response to a very simple ask, it's just a topic I'm very passionate about and am willing to talk about at really extreme lengths. I appreciate your takes on this even if I do disagree with them, I just don't make shit easy and I apologize for that 😖 😂
Oookay, so I'm gonna try and answer this as best I can, with as little curtness as possible, because I know you're asking it genuinely, but please understand that this is a topic that comes up a LOT in artist/LO spaces and I'm sorta exhausted with having to talk about it. Often times because it's approaching the argument with a very misconstrued idea of what 'style' is.
Ironically enough, before I get into this, I actually do have a post queued up for tomorrow already that's called a 'redraw' because unlike the panels I'm assuming you're calling out, I actually painted the upcoming ones for tomorrow entirely from scratch. I'm still trying to replicate the LO style, of course, but it's not trying to remain quite as faithful as my edits tend to be because it's meant to be a redraw in the true sense of the word like you're referencing. My edits are often just a normal layer on top of the original that I paint over, which is what the last few posts have been. My redraws are drawn from the ground up, backgrounds, faces, poses, etc. often times with the goal of re-compositing the scene entirely. The ones from the last couple days were not drawn from the ground up, simply altered over the originals - but the unfortunate reality is that some of them simply can't be accurately edited entirely due to the original composition being such a visual mess. That includes this one which was a struggle to edit faithfully without my own anatomical stylizations bleeding into it due to how janky the original was (IMO). Like, the original panel didn't even "look like LO", it's godawful, and it's a stretch to say I'm dissing Rachel's "style" when I'm fairly certain Rachel didn't even draw any part of that original panel, it's INCREDIBLY obvious two different people from her team drew it and there's no way of knowing whether or not Rachel was one of them. I did not touch Hades because he's not the problem with the panel. Hades as you see him in that panel is exactly how he was in the original, I merely tried my best to edit Persephone to look more consistent with Hades and less creepy.
Disclaimers over, let's get on with this.
So here's the thing - if it were a simple matter of "style", I'd agree wholeheartedly with you. I'm not about pitting artists against one another, we're all different people with different takes and inspirations making our own thing.
However, there's a difference between style and execution.
With full disclosure, I do not accept the argument that because LO has a more "cartoony style", then it's "fine" for it to very blatantly lower its quality in technical execution or turn into a cheap copy of what it once was. LO was never 'cartoony', it was more akin to storybook art, like something you'd find in old Disney concept art pieces or in children's illustration books. 'Cartoony' as in 'not realistic', sure, but definitely not cartoony in the way most people envision it or market it (like what you'd see in legitimate cartoon shows). The use of color was vibrant and had thought put into it, compositions were dynamic, lineart was only used where needed to create depth, and overall, there was a vibe to it that many of you can still recognize, it's what a lot of my blog talks about.
When I do these panel "fixes", my goal isn't to go "hey, my style is superior to Rachel's! Fuck Rachel!" Far from it. My goal is to analyze what made the original LO art so special and unique, and help preserve those elements in newer panels through key elements such as color choice, glow layers, composition, texturing, etc. many of which are elements that are outright missing from S2 of LO onwards.
Because, full bluntness, LO has zero effort being put into it anymore.
LO never had perfect anatomy and it's always struggled with creating a cohesive visual narrative, but it hid its issues well with a good balance of color choice, mood/tone, and lineart-less rendering. It wasn't meant to be some hyper-realistic comic, what set it apart were the colorful panels and vignettes and use of 'cutout' style backgrounds and foreground elements.
Stuff like this:
I have spent literally hours dissecting LO's art style, researching and hunting down its brushes, crawling the best and most recognizable color palettes, drawing and redrawing old panels in attempts to replicate Rachel's style and techniques as best I can. I'm not doing all that just to try and be like "I can do it better", more so to preserve what once was and could have been. Because I genuinely miss how old LO looked and so do many others. It's my own way of participating in a fandom that's being torn apart each week by the new episodes that only seem to further degrade the comic's original presentation and why people liked it.
Trust me, if I wanted to just draw LO in 'my style' as some sort of self-gratifying flex (because everyone in the art world nowadays thinks the only point in creating art is to have a "style" that they can pit against other "styles" as if styles are collectables like fucking Pokemon lmao), you wouldn't even recognize it.
THIS is my "style", y'all. The only elements that I've purely taken from LO is the background and how I did the lighting effects along the side but everything else is my standard 'style' when I draw anything that's NOT LO, especially with my own comics and my day job.
"Style" is not a tangible thing, at least not in the way people nowadays tend to define it. Style is an accumulation of everything that's influenced an artist over years of practice, learning, refinement, and mastery. It is not something any one person can 'own' nor is it something that can or should be 'fixed' in and of itself. Just like how Rachel has adopted elements of her style from inspirations such as Glen Keane and Mary Blair, I've gotten my stylistic inspirations from anime, manga, video games, and other webcomics. Our styles and why we create art and who we create art for are completely different.
I have zero issue with Rachel's 'style'. At its core it's actually freaking gorgeous, when she puts in the effort. Not even just LO, take a look at her even OLDER art that's still available to sift through on her DA:
The issues I'm bringing up have to do with the execution of said style, how it's blatantly obvious Rachel doesn't put any effort into the art anymore and often has her assistants picking up the slack in a very disorganized manner that leads to disjointed, bland, weird ass art that often can't even maintain consistency between SINGLE PANELS, like this:
The magic is gone. These are not reflections of Rachel's capabilities in the slightest. She is far capable of so much more, this is beyond being a 'stylistic choice' and falls more under the implication of laziness or lack of care.
What's wild is that she's outright stated that she's "streamlined" the LO creation process to make it easier for new assistants to acclimate - which would be fine, if it weren't for the fact that 'streamlining' shouldn't mean 'downgrade'. There are plenty of ways to streamline the LO art style that can still retain the original charm of LO that drew people to it in the first place without cheapening it. It's not like LO is the only webtoon under strict deadlines, Rachel has more assistants than most working for WT and yet everyone else on the platform seems to only improve in their comic's production workflow and its presentation whereas LO has only declined.
(The Kiss Bet, 2019-Present)
(Tower of God, 2014-Present)
Not every comic needs to make improvements this drastically, and technically LO didn't even have to make improvements in its original execution - but it's so far gone in the other direction that it begs the question, "Why do other creators and comics with less prestige and as many or less assistants compared to LO seem to make such bigger strides in the technical execution of their work?" Regardless of whether the style is erring more towards anime or cartoon or realism, 'style' doesn't make up for poor technical execution and lack of consistency. That's the same energy we get all the time from newcomers to the craft who reject any form of criticism towards their technique and understanding of the fundamentals with "THAT'S JUST MY STYYYYLE". Even many animators who predominantly work on cartoon productions still understand their fundamentals and utilize them in the creation of stylized pieces of work. This isn't even me questioning how much of the fundamentals Rachel knows because, again, she clearly has understanding of it in her older work, she just seems to have stopped caring or isn't doing a proper job directing her team.
I criticize the stick necks and googly eyes the same way I do the inconsistent body types, refrigerator shoulders and same-face syndrome because they're all things that are detracting from and lowering the quality of LO's art as a whole. They didn't always shade whites in the old episodes of LO, but they did often tint them to make them less jarring against the more vibrant colors. They didn't always color in the irises back in 2018/2019, but at least when they were just solid black pupils, they were actually drawn EQUALLY, vs. the solid pupils nowadays which feel like they're each on their own schedule and are never the same size or facing the same direction. They didn't always draw perfect necks and faces, but nowadays it feels like the heads are being stuck on sticks and attached to separate bodies that aren't even consistent with the characters' body types. All of these things are issues, there's no 'hierarchy' of problems, they're each a part of a much bigger lackluster whole.
When it comes to my own panel fixes/redraws/whatever you wanna call them, if they don't look enough like Rachel's 'style', that's either because we're failing to recognize what makes Rachel's art unique due to it being so watered down over the years, or because I'm just not doing a good enough job replicating it. Undoubtedly a little bit of both. I'm still 'adjusting' to a workflow that accommodates the LO style and how it looks. It's not exactly easy to just jump from one style (my style) to another without my own usual biases bleeding in (trust me, I'm not happy that there are people who know my usual art style who can still 'see' it in my LO art, because that completely defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do lmao)
All that aside, we can't pretend that S1 LO's signature style is still being executed to its fullest potential in S3.
If I can be really brash here, there are WAY more egregious panel 'editors' out there who straight up are drawing stuff legitimately just in their own style. And they're still all great in their own right and get to the point of what they're trying to say even if they don't fit what you would define as a "fix". Don't bug me about mine.
Rachel's style in and of itself is gorgeous and unique. It's the lack of effort in the execution as time goes on that is the topic here. I can never hope to fully achieve that 'vibe' that so many people miss about 'old' LO because that was all Rachel and I can never fully capture the spirit of her work because it's hers, it's the accumulation of everything that's inspired and influenced her in her artistic journey.
What I can do is point out and design alternatives to the many errors, inconsistencies, and technical issues that tries to get it closer to that original look and feel of S1 LO that better reflected Rachel's original efforts. It's what it could potentially look like if modern LO art wasn't so disjointed among its scattered assistants and rushed with as little visible effort possible. It's what could have been if it didn't feel like Rachel has essentially given up.
Does it really matter how I specifically word my posts between 'edit' and 'redraw' in this context when both things are attempting to accomplish the same goal?
#thanks for the discussion#i'll always take a good essay op#i'm genuinely not trying to be a dick#i'm just tired of 'style' being conflated with effort and visual appeal#this is another ask that turned into a fundamentals of art rant#lore olympus critical#antiloreolympus#lo critical#ask me anything

I saw this lovely post stating that "Jujutsu Kaisen is an interesting deconstruction from the ‘secret hidden world of magic’ concept", with which I very much agree, so I wanted to try and elaborate on that a little.
Let me start by expanding on the trope itself and what I personally find to be non-functional about it. In many narratives that in one way or the other deal with magic and magic systems, we more often than not are presented with the concept of a completely different world, a whole secret society, existing alongside the ordinary world we all are familiar with – in secrecy, of course.
Whether it is due to the magical creatures being harmed by the non-magical ones and as a result pushed to hide themselves for the sake of safety, or a consequence of some calamity creating the schism between the two, the people born with magic are driven into living on the outskirts of the world, dwelling in nooks and crannies of ordinary life. And as the story usually goes, the two remain incompatiable, unable or unwilling to cooperate and/or coexist, making magic and the ability to wield it extremely exclusive. Which grants those who are capable of using it immense power and weight in the order of things.
Which, in turn, seems to arise the question: why not break through the status quo, then?
With non-magical society losing awareness of the magical one existing over time or being purposely kept away from that knowledge, nothing seems to stand in the way of magical creatures asserting dominance. As I see it, not possessing the information of the secret other half of existence inevitably leads to inability to oppose it, doesn't it?
And if we take a few steps back, what about the prospect of cutting off a highly prolific resource that magic is? How come its productive properties are left uninvolved in, well, production? Not put into labour anyhow?
If magic was somehow hidden, how does it remain so – since we're talking about how powerful it is, its impact on the world so noticeable and grand?
And so on.
But as for me, the most interesting and somewhat intriguing matter regarding magic is the position which it places those who obtain it in (which I have somewhat already mentioned). Simply put, it is power in its most pure, most raw – power to create, power to manipulate, power to do something exceptional, which few others can. And power resides within restraints and limitations which society constructs around it. Because society is not only clever in its mechanics, it exists (ideally) for the purpose of ironing out inequalities of power (whatever we label as power here). Because when left unsupervised, the ability of one leads to the disability of the other, the advantage of one creates the equal disadvantage of the other. So we build institutions, formulate laws, establish basic rules of our agreed coexistence. We restrict power. We try and make sure no one will use it against us. We tame the beast known as unlimited freedom of action.
Which we actually see happenning in JJK!
The best example of this is Satoru Gojo, the omnipotent sorcerer and the very pinnacle of jujutsu world, rendered limited, paradoxically, by his own strength. Using Gojo's own words, “Ironic, isn’t it? Given everything, but unable to do anything.” He is very much physically capable of achieving his goal by simply killing the higher-ups and thus forcing a reform upon their corrupted system. Although that would be no reform – rather banal tyranny unable to bring about any real change. Gojo is too powerful, so powerful that his mere existence tips the balance of the world's forces – hence he is restricted.
Starting with an individual example, the same can be applied to the whole jujutsu society. Those who can manipulate cursed energy, as opposed to powerless non-sorcerers, as an exclusive minority are being controlled by the majority, forced into carrying out a duty of exorcising in favour of ordinary people, who are inherently uncapable of doing so. Once again we see power being put into labour and confined within societal rules. Jujutsu is hidden from the public eye, yes, but it is yet again done for the sake of non-sorcerers, not the other way around: while the ordinary society is thriving in ignorance, the sorcerers are being exploited and restricted at every step.
To wrap my ranting up, I find the way JJK handles the "hidden magical world" trope much more realistic and thought-provoking than what we would usually expect from such stories.
#jujutsu kaisen#jjk#jjk analysis#some of it actually came from the discussion i had with my sister#thanks op for inspiring my ranting!!#please do check the link#their analysis posts are truly amazing

Anyway [stretches] under a cut because it got Long as usual; tl;dr at the bottom
The thing abt c!Ranboo is his motivation and his actions don’t always align and that is bc of the eternal nature of c!Ranboo as living in a society and Balancing Priorities. He is always self-compromising in its relationships w/ others; more often than not when it agrees to do smth with someone it is doing it not bc it believes in the cause but because it has priorities it needs to mitigate. (Ranboo has not believed in any of the causes put forth by Someone Else in their life the closest they get is the Syndicate and even there it’s only reassured to bc it is reassured it can share opinions)
This starts off wayyyy early with it agreeing to help grief despite not really having a personal reason to do it, and with it collaborating w/ New L’Manberg even through things like the Butcher Army. It consistently does not want to be seen as In Opposition. It works with Tmmy and Techno in large part bc it doesn’t want to come off as opposed 2 them, and bc it has personal investment (+guilt) in Tmmy. Ranboo will literally act like this
- as self preservation - out of a desire to help+spare the feelings of ppl it doesn’t trust to negotiate with - especially later, so it can try to mitigate the parties it’s collaborating w/ -- if he’s involved in the effort, he has more traction 2 attempt to mitigate anything terrible it might do (even when most of the time he doesn’t manage to do this)
This is part of why he initially joined th Syndicate and this is why he worked with Wilbur over th course of the burger arc. Some combination of this is also why he works w/ Dream, smth that is frequently overlooked in Ranboo Analysis; Ranboo volitionally[1] collaborates w/ Dream despite, obviously, having a lot of Active Dislike for Dream and what he is doing, out of a combination of a) he would not want 2 frame himself as Opposed To Dream in any interaction w/ Dream, b) he is generally sympathetic and pitying, c) ideological agreement w/ some aspects of Dream’s goals, and d) desire to mitigate/stay close to Dream. Ranboo keeps his friends close and enemies closer 2 some degree
His relationship w/ Tbbo is not an exception to this it is part of the pattern. It’s just one that has much more present, personal, and consistent stakes. Ranboo complies w/ Tbbo the same way he complies w/ the Syndicate when he’s worried they’re threatening, the same way he complies w/ NLM, the same way he complies w/ Wilbur in the burger arc, th same way he complies with Tmmy early on, the same way he complies w/ Dream offscreen. This is a Known Tactic Ranboo pursues; their project is ultimately of survival and compassion and survival and compassion are both things they have to sacrifice to keep
Tbbo is a unique priority to Ranboo almost in the same way all of the aforementioned r slightly different, unique priorities; in Tubbo’s case, Ranboo is extremely invested in keeping Tbbo safe from others and from Tbbo’s own self with a particular fervor for a very long time. I’m not rehashing the entire beeduo meta here but Ranboo does have particular interest and a particular prioritization for Tbbo for a long ass time; arguably post-NLM and thru burger arc, Tbbo is its first priority bc Ranboo loves him and has convinced itself it’s the only one who can fix him and has also mostly-correctly observed that no one has really been looking out for him. Tubbo is an urgent target in Ranboo’s projects of compassion and of survival both
When those stakes r released, tho, in the burger van conversation (the “you weren’t happy before?”) Ranboo no longer has Tbbo at the same priority level irt the project of survival especially, and, despite how guilty and upset it makes them, prioritizes their 5D chess game with Wilbur instead (ironically sacrificing a solid chunk of its project of survival). Its motives @ the end of Ho16 r commonly cited as being abt Tbbo but that’s not entirely what he says and if it was Ranboo HAS the kind of analytical presence of mind to know that it Killing Himself doesn’t help Tbbo as much as it deals with Wilbur
Ho16 is abt Ranboo winning aforesaid 5D chess game; Tbbo is only part of the stakes 4 that and Mitigating Tbbo is no longer Ranboo’s top priority w/ that. Ranboo’s final monologue is more than anything reminiscent of his earlier arguments about sides and collateral. It’s part of the larger project of compassion, and it’s about the distorted version thereof tht comes with Ranboo getting stuck in its head and its machinations, too; like Tbbo is important to Ranboo and the carelessness abt Tbbo is something unacceptable but to claim Ranboo’s motivations revolve around Tubbo specifically is reductive of his other relationships and actual larger ideological motivations
I have a problem w/ framings of this as positive/romantic devotion that amkes Ranboo better or as devotion at all bc repeatedly it is shown it makes him Worse, and is in fact the opposite of devotion it's disingenuous by nature. Ranboo is lying. This is so essential to all of this when Ranboo acts like he is in step with you specifically he is lying you are never guaranteed to be the priority. This is him at his worst, th project of compassion at its most compromised, and it’s a state that they explicitly don’t like. Ranboo does not like compromising itself and when they do that they Get Hurt (NLM and outpost arc having the most confabulation we’ve seen in Ranboo in general, Ranboo hating himself for this, Ranboo complying w/ shit like the experiments, Ranboo in all these environments where he is playing this being Constantly Markedly Afraid)
Even throughout the time period where Tbbo is technically priority #1 Tbbo is still . Priority Number One as opposed to like a genuine devotion. Tbbo having a handle on Ranboo in this way is not devotion it is fear and it is again not a mechanism tht Ranboo Only engages for Tbbo it’s just a mechanism, that again IS BAD FOR RANBOO BOTH IRT MENTAL HEALTH AND MORALITY, that has thru circumstance become one tht Tbbo is best at unintentionally activating. Ranboo Does This When You Are His Project. And When He Had A New Project Aside From His Husband That’s What He Did To Him
TL;DR
Ranboo does comply with Tubbo in various activities tht he doesn’t believe in but this isn’t ? Unique to Tbbo this is just Ranboo’s general socialmeta+ what allows it to move in the world the way it does
Ranboo cares about Tubbo deeply and this is relevant to his motivations but that’s only one part of his larger motivations
It’s also honestly not great to frame this complianceas romantic or good bc it’s actively smth that Makes Them Worse in multiple senses
It takes out a ton of Ranboo’s decision making and the negative effects thereof
Anyway stream
youtube
[1] No, one dumb as fuck line from Dream Of All People in that lame ass excuse for a finale does not negate All The Things In CRanboo’s Story including working w Dream being part of this consistent pattern, Ranboo’s story being abt agency responsibility and decision in such a way tht it is completely undercut by mind ctrl plots, Ranboo’s ideological agreement w Dream on some matters, the alliumduo parallels, and everything we do know abt the enderwalk as a concept and Ranboo how he acts in and out of it
#OKAY HANG ON I wanna edit this again. Read the first draft if u want but I wanna do a once over I decided immediately after posting#I didn't like the tone#NEVER MIND UPDATE 2/19 IAT NIGT EDITED IT AGAIN#OK EDITED ENOUGH anyway#pretend the crosslink to the beeduo meta is red like in an essie pea article.#Anyway yes this is themeta that I tried to edit to not be too much of a direct vague . But thank u to OP in spirit anyway bc I would not#have had the soup 2 write this if I didn't see the post#But yeag. Frankly I think it's disrespectful 2 c!Ranboo's arc 2 claim it revolves around c!Tubbo or that it should#It's heavily affected by Tbbo bc Ranboo Cares Him Saur Much for much of the arc#but to claim tht Ranboo's socialmeta in general is smth that is just for Tbbo and to frame it as like Ranboo doesn't actually believe in his#ideological beliefs they just love one guy#is reductive and very like . Your One True Love Is The Most Important Thing#it fucks w/ their political agency a Lot I think.#people not sides gets discredited so fucking much#Like the personal is political u can't understand cRanb w/o understanding that#I like how I'm not actually tagging thsi I'm just ranting in the tags and not censoring tag names

AAGFGHGHF THANK YOU OMG........I feel like I've been REALLY annoying talking about Sanlu nonstop but I'm glad at least somebody is enjoying it lmao. But if there's one place where I SHOULD have no filter and feel free to talk about my ships constantly, it should be my own blog right. LOL
Essentially,
#Also live blogging is fun for me too ESPECIALLY when I can come back to it later#Like. In a couple months or years#I can scroll through my tags and relive everything I was feeling in those exact moments#Just makes for good memories <3#Shima answers questions#Anyway thank you for letting me unashamedly rant about OP and Sanlu. I'm a chronic lurker, touching Tumblr infrequently at best (haven't even made myself a TES sideblog) but I need to tell you that stumbling upon Project Ja-Kha'Jay amongst the endless hellfire of anime-faced tiddy mods was such a breath of pure fresh air- even moreso when I got to turn Maiq into an alfiq. Your artistic vision is impeccable and adds so much to the vibes of the khajiit, it is never leaving my load order. I'm even throwing my save to the wind to update. Worth it! I was definitely heartbroken when I realized you also gave the orcs a makeover but I hadn't snagged it before you (validly) removed it from the nexus. The nexus community is so gross and honestly I only download from there as a necessary evil to Skyrim modding. I'm so sorry you've been subjected to the grossness with your mods, especially with Children of the Pariah. From what I've seen here, it looks like another masterpiece. A love letter to the orcs as they are, with so much attention to detail and respect for the lore. I'd love to have the chance to add it to my game somewhere else away from the Nexus, but there's no pressure. I can admire the work you've done and throw your amazing designs into my headcanons. I just wanted to let you know that while it might seem that you're throwing your hard work into the void, there's fans who actually care for the depth and details and who share your frustrations.
Hey, thanks for the kind words :) glad you're enjoying the Khajiit and sorry about the inconvenience for Children of the Pariah
I will be re-uploading CotP and all mods after the upcoming PJKJ addon on my mod blog, @my-tamriel-now
I will reblog any posts I make there on this blog as well.
Sorry there's no ETA, I need to finish the Khajiit Will Follow addon and then update CotP before I will publish it again.
I really do appreciate your kindness <3
#answers#thanks so much#i do feel like i'm being over-dramatic about the whole thing but i don't like feeling bad over a project i'm doing for fun#and releasing for free#to people who just want all women to be models#it just icks me to my core#but tag rant over#whining about mods#(my tag for mod complaints OP not about you!)

yeah the holiest love part is. (eating dry wall)
(Can I have some) yeah and I think my favorite part of that passage was Van Helsing's speech right before (sorry op you triggered my need to expand).....
"For so surely as we live, that scar shall pass away when God sees right to lift the burden that is hard upon us. Till then we bear our Cross, as His Son did in obedience to His Will. It may be that we are chosen instruments of His good pleasure, and that we ascend to His bidding as that other through stripes and shame; through tears and blood; through doubts and fears, and all that makes the difference between God and man."
It is very rare imo that horror maintains any kind of theological soundness. And I think Jonathan's comment of holy love wouldn't really mean much without it. Van Helsing's dismissal of the physical scar in light of the knowledge of Mina's character and more importantly God's character was so kindly done, as it was such a horrific and hopeless moment for Mina which may not hit as hard to readers who have never taken communion. He doesn't miss a beat in recognizing that even this horrific outward sign of evil did not change anything about Mina herself and I love him for that!!! The comparison to Christ's outward scars and the shame and humiliation he endured while completing the most merciful and righteous act throughout history is so poignant and beautiful.
#tbh my favorite character in the holiest love section is van helsing....#christianity#dracula#dracula daily#thanks op for giving me a chance to rant#also. not to be controversial but i love that bram stoker makes being a vampire horrific. and i don't mean horrific with an undertone o#of sexy. like. actually horrible. the sexiness of the vampire is a corruption and not healthy. (i have accepted that if i want to make#any fanart for this section i have to do it myself. people can re-interpret dracula how they want but it is NOT about vampires being sexy#or trading salvation for love.)
