I needed to tell you that tiny shorts Cody has taken over my brain. I'm utterly obsessed
Ahhhhh hi, yes, hello!!!! Same same same!!! I was so delighted to receive this ask and I am so glad you share my obsession!!
If you're interested, I do have some critical background:
- They're Marshall Commander shorts. They say Marshall Commander across the ass.
- Bly, in possession of a discretionary fund ""for trooper morale,"" got them as a gag gift for each of his batchmates.*
- Cody (unfuckwithable) wears them unironically, unselfconsciously, daily, for his morning workout (....on the days he gets a morning workout.)
- It is widely understood that Cody is at his best and most approachable at this time. In the moments between his cooldown and hitting the sonics, Cody is in possession of serenity, mercy, benevolence. He's in a good mood.
- This is the time to come to him with. Just. The most aggravating issues. No matter how nightmarish the fuckup, Marshall Commander Shorts Cody can see the shape of the solution. No crisis will rattle his calm.
- Inevitably, someone shares this with Obi-Wan. Though not, perhaps, the full context.
- I think you know how this ends.
- Obi-Wan just isn't prepared, I think. The first time he sees the Marshall Commander Shorts. I think Cody is flushed and shirtless, thighs out, drinking his water, toweling off his face. I think he sees Obi-Wan and smiles. I think Cody so rarely smiles. It's like 💀💀 a dream. It's like he's dreaming.

hullo, pluto! I was wondering what would lola's job be if she worked for marigold? I'm quite curious :3
hi starry!! so, i feel like lola would be a bootlegger, but she wouldn't kill anybody. she'd just kind of scare someone or intimidate them, but wouldn't inflict any harm on them. even as a marigold member, she wouldn't have the heart to hurt anybody.

Top 5 msr hand holds <3
below the cut because you know i'm gonna TALK.
1. closure
Tumblr media
the two of them sitting in that coffee shop, both cups in front of them untouched, filled to the brim, reading samantha’s journal. bearing witness to the suffering of this little girl. they are in this moment together. they have been in this moment together since he looked at her and told her “nothing else matters” to him, seven years ago in that motel room.
for the past seven years, scully’s job has been to play the skeptic, to argue against the paranormal theories that his grief leads him to. later that night, she stands outside the door of the last person to see samantha alive, and prays for aliens.
they’ve been in this together for the better part of a decade and they’re sitting in a coffee shop reading the truth they’ve been looking for, how devastatingly human the evil of it was, and she looks at him with tears in her eyes and squeezes his hand.
2. redux ii
Tumblr media
one of the few moments in the series where you see scully break…scully defines herself so completely in loyalty. in following him, in being ahab’s starbuck, in being her captain father’s first mate.
in this moment, mulder is heading off to a hearing where he will be testifying to details of the conspiracy and against members of the FBI. this is It. this is The Truth. this is The Quest that they’ve been working on for five years. the dutiful first mate would send him on his way.
scully clings to his hand. she doesn’t want to lose any more time (nine minutes in bellefleur was enough). she can’t believe either of them are going to go through the next few hours, the last few hours, without each other.
she might not be there when he returns, she’ll be the next on the list of people to have disappeared behind his back, and he’s kissing her cheek and casually cracking jokes, and she‘s desperate to hold on for just a moment longer.
3. tithonus thumb war
Tumblr media
one, two, three, four…we die next to each other or never at all. what’s immortality next to a mindless game with your best friend?
scully asked fellig, “how can you have too much life? what about love?”
he answered, “love lasts 75 years, if you’re lucky. you don’t want to be around when it’s gone.”
in a story about the grief of eternal life, waking up in that hospital, i don’t see scully taking on the quest to give it up.
4. dreamland
Tumblr media
the central question of this episode, becomes the central question of the rest of the series: don't you ever want to get out of the car?
while they may be years from stepping away from the car long enough for that house and "normal life" that scully laments driving past, for a moment they stand in front of it.
they gaze up at lights in the sky the way they did on their second case together, the way they did in antarctica, and he reaches wordlessly for her. half "scully, you gotta see this" and half "stay here on the ground," it's an instinct that doesn't disappear with their memories.
it's like that thing DD said once, "there is no such thing as that story ever ending. those characters are forever searching. that’s what they do. even if we’re not watching them, they’re out there."
they'll get back in the car and they'll "just keep driving," for years and for decades and for the rest of their lives, because they'll forever be searching. and when there's something to see, they'll reach for each other.
5. pusher
Tumblr media
"smile, scully."
kneeling down before her to surrender his weapons, he meets her worried eyes with a calm smile.
this episode is all about palpable tension and anxiety, about walking into a losing battle without control of the stakes, and it's most visceral in scully from the moment they decide to send mulder in alone.
but before she nervously watches a surveillance screen, before she jumps up the moment the feed cuts out, before she runs in after him, before she screams at a serial killer and cries out to him in fear...she quietly looks down at him, the way she has so many times before, and keeps his hand still. steadies them both, holds them both in this moment.
the emotional arc of this episode is bookended with touch, and more than the absolution in the way she reaches for his hand in the final scene, it's this moment that simplifies it to me. it's the calm before the storm, and the time that's taken in the midst of it all, to pause outside influence while they still can.
(BONUS: Fight The Future)
Tumblr media
reaching out to him as she recommits, parroting back his own words to him. she has memorized everything that he has ever said and it is the two of them in this work, in this fight.
if they quit on each other now, they lose.

Fake Fic asks: 🐝 Refraction
🐝 send me a fake fic title, and I’ll make up a summary for it!
Cisco doesn't know why he keeps dreaming of Barry - their patient in Star labs. Sure, it could be the guilt for what happened to him, and he's been spending a lot of his waking hours looking him up and talking to the man's family.
Barry sounds exactly like the sort of person Cisco would love to hang out with, but it doesn't explain why Cisco has such specific dreams of the two of them watching Star Trek and placing bets on who can eat the most Belly Burger nuggets (spoiler alert for himself: Barry always wins, the man is a bottomless pit).
It gets very worrying when the dreams slowly grow into strange, waking visions of Barry moving at superspeed, fighting a man in yellow, and into very creepy flashes of Doctor Wells standing over Barry's comatose body.
Cisco can't explain it, but he knows Barry is in very grave danger at Star labs and he's determined to save his future best-friend-maybe-something-else. He also really hopes Barry wakes up soon, because this will all be a lot to explain.
(In which Cisco gets his vibe powers before Barry wakes up from his coma. Set in the CW Flash show.)

what are your least fav tropes??
holy moly, there are a lot.
Accidental... Pregnancy.... - Screw this. Like seriously it's the worst and the reactions to the pregnancy are ALWAYS so bad. Bonus points if he reacts badly to it, asks her to get rid of it (when either mc is not in the mental state to do so or was hoping for a better response when he was having UNPROTECTED WEE WAH WITH HER), and she STILL wants to be with this man???
Tsundere - I just.... like beating somebody up just cause you like them?? What are you, my elementary school bully?
Bully x Victim - what the FUCK???
I don't really like any Best Friend's ____. This includes Best Friend's ex (why would you ever), Best Friend's Sibling (this one comes off very meh to me, but like I would find it strange if my friend dated my brother, and we only have a year difference), and ESPECIALLY Best Friend's LOVER. WHY WOULD YOU CATCH FEELINGS FOR YOUR BEST FRIEND'S ACTUAL CURRENT PARTNER???
Sibling's ex or sibling's lover - no way hosay is it okay to fall for someone your SIBLING liked.
Sibling LOVER - get. away. now. get away from your blood relations. Please. I'm begging you. Stepsiblings are NOT exempt.
Uncle romance??? Cousin Romance???? FAMILLIAL RELATIONS??? I'm looking at Credence right now.
Enemies to Lovers - Now, here me out. See, I like rivals to lovers. But that is SO much more different than enemies to lovers. 'Um, he did enslave my people, killed my family, burned my hometown to smithereens so I will never have a home to return to.... but... he's got the most beautiful blue eyes!' ...I will pass.
Amnesia - bruh EVERY time someone loses the memory of their lover I just close the book. This is actually non negotiable I HATE this.
Second Chance - Nah, we broke up for a reason. No more chances dude it's OVER.

#i have a lot of thoughts on why amane accepting shidous help wouldnt help either of them but thats rambling for another day lmao
hello it is another day 👀 can I hear your thoughts on why shidou and amane wouldn't be helped by him trying to help her?
Ah yes!! I'll start off by saying I love Shidou a lot and think he's very capable, loving, and is a really good father -- I mean no slight to him when I say he would only make things worse for Amane if they became close like he wants. The short version is that neither of them will get what they want out of this new relationship, to no fault of their own. But by getting together in the first place, they give each other the illusion that they can get these things, which only makes the loss worse.
Shidou is grieving a sudden, intense loss. He thinks that he wants to keep being a father. He thinks that he misses taking care of his little girl and that by caring for Amane he can get that feeling back/atone for what he’s done. But what he needs is time and space to mourn such a sudden tragedy. I don’t know what you call a familial rebound, but that’s exactly what Amane would be. He does genuinely want to help, he’s not like “using her” or anything. But he is subconsciously expecting her presence to fix something for both of them. He desperately wants to fill a gap in his life, and her role as replacement for what he lost would become more and more clear. Maybe he doesn't want to replace them, but sees saving her as a way to atone for the children he couldn't save. No matter how much love he pours on her -- no matter if she's able to overcome her feelings and return his love tenfold -- it won’t fix what's actually broken.
And it would be the same for her: rushing into a new family wouldn’t give her back the parents/childhood she lost. After thinking so highly of her father, she’d have really high expectations for Shidou. She may be able to recognize how her father hurt her, but it’ll be hard to break away from the intense respect she has for him. She’ll always be wanting more from Shidou, both in his character and also the unconditional love she’d been denied. And while his love may be unconditional, it will always be affected by his love for his past family. All of his techniques for caring for her were tested on his kids first (he makes her desserts he know his kids liked, takes her places he took his family, etc). It's not a bad thing on it's own (in almost any other case it would be a really good thing that he has firsthand experience), but given Amane's specific past, this will hurt her a lot. She will always be reminded that those kids came first. She’s so used to adults putting the cult before her, this will feel the same. She’ll always feel like living in something's shadow.
And I know people are adaptable, but I think her joining Shidou’s life would just be such a challenge for both of them. Shidou built a family with loved ones, and now he has to start a new life as a single father to a strange child whose mind works very different than the average population. He mentions he relied on his wife for household things -- now he must learn to cook and clean while also struggling with cult deprogramming techniques. All of his energy would be consumed with helping her change and adapt, instead of properly processing both of their emotions with grief and guilt. Unprocessed emotions like that can only come out harmfully, then. Even if Amane suddenly develops the most open mind in the world, it’ll be such a jarring switch going from her cult completely against medicine to a doctor’s household in which science always triumphs over spirituality. So much of Shidou’s core being is tied to the most awful and traumatizing events of Amane’s life -- that’ll be a huge obstacle for them to overcome, no matter how open to healing they both are.
The problem is, I recognize Amane's rejection isn't good for either of them. With Shidou's emotions, being so violently hated by a child only sends him deeper into grief. It makes the loss feel worse. And similarly, Amane's rejection denies her of someone who genuinely wants to care for her -- she's missing out on necessary physical, mental, emotional support. It's a lose-lose for the two of them, and I'm very compelled by it :(
Buuut, if I can indulge in my more personal thoughts for a sec, that's why I like to think about Mahiru taking her in! She specifically wanted new kids. She's literally prepared her life to take on a new child in her home. Even without the help of a partner, she excels at cooking, cleaning, keeping house, etc. Amane really does fill part of the gap Mahiru has always longed for. Though she won't get her childhood back, Amane will finally be an adults number one priority, no strings attached. Mahiru will absolutely smother her in love, her tendency to go overboard making up with Amane's deficiency of parental care. I think Mahiru's "let everyone stick to their own code" mindset will need some work, but at least it allows Amane's transition to be much easier. Mahiru is in support of Amane following what she believes, rather than live a lifestyle that actively denounces her. Shidou can still visit and help, giving him the perfect amount of interaction to heal him, and offer Amane something real and kind. I know it wouldn't be perfect under Mahiru, they're situation is fucked up enough to take a lot of painful work, but I really think she'd be the best to take care of her <3

Merwenthur and merwen
Ayyyy two for the price of one 😁
I’ll start with Merwen. They’re besties. I don’t see them together pretty much at all. I think they have undeniable chemistry, but that chemistry is strictly platonic. So, if I were talking their ranking as friends, it’d be 95/100. But ranking as a couple…
Merwen: 10/100
Ok, now for Merwenthur. My feelings on this one are a little complicated. On the one hand, whenever I see fanart of this coupling or silly little scripts of the three of them, I think it’s adorable and I eat it up. I think they’re a great trio just in general.
But on the other hand, I don’t really like it when I think of them actually together. The main reason for that is I don’t think the love would be equal and I just can’t like it if it isn’t. I think Merlin and Arthur have something that goes beyond what they have with anyone else.
When Gwen is Arthur’s queen, she’s lonely because he spends all his time out and with Merlin. There’s a deleted scene of Merlin telling Arthur he should probably spend some time with Gwen. This isn’t the only deleted scene that addresses this kind of thing either. And there are many other instances I can think of when Arthur puts Merlin before her.
I just think Gwen deserves to be with someone who see’s her as number one. And at the end of the day, Arthur is always picking Merlin and Merlin is always picking Arthur.
Merwenthur: 30/100
Feel free to send me ships to rank :)

Hardwick House?
Yay thank you for asking! This is the one I'm most excited about. It's the story of Kang Seon-hwa, the daughter of a prominent politician in Joseon-era Korea. When a political upheaval lands her father in prison and gets her husband killed, Seon-hwa isn't sure what to do next — until a British missionary she knows suggests a fresh start in London. Seon-hwa eventually accepts and boards a ship to England. She arrives just around the time of Queen Victoria's coronation and is hosted by the Hardwick family.
The story picks up six months after she's arrived in London. She's having a difficult time adjusting to the new culture and feels lonely, with her maid Da-som being the only other person there who speaks Korean. Enter a strange young man who suddenly appears in her room one morning. After the shock of finding him there, she soon discovers that the man is Henry Song, a third-generation Korean immigrant who lives in Hardwick House in 2023 and has accidentally discovered a time portal in his house. The curiosity of the situation and the comforting presence of a fellow Korean in the midst of London leads Seon-hwa and Henry back and forth across the portal as they form a friendship.
I first wrote this as an assignment for my film class, as a short story and then a script. The most complete version that currently exists is the script, but I do intend to expand it into a full book eventually. Here's a page from the script:

And a couple of pages from my storyboard:

Your trolley problem art is incredible and made me think about those characters in ways I hadn’t before – I’m sure someone asked you already but PLEASE share your thoughts about that episode, I too am tormented by it and the question of whether it’s good or not
Thank you so much for your lovely words about my art! I feel like I should preface anything I say with the information that a lot of how I view and interpret things comes in the form of pattern seeking, which can be very ‘magical thinking’ at times. If I say anything that feels like I’ve jumped through several hoops without you to get there please let me know and I’ll try my best to explain my thought process behind it.
I'm concerned my response will be rather disappointing because honestly I don’t know what I really think about this episode. I don’t know what it's going for, or what it’s trying to say. The only reason I’ve written so much about it is because I struggle to process it in the confines of my own head. The best I can offer is several unrelated paragraphs about things I’ve turned over in my mind the most. Apologies I can’t offer anything in the way of substantial analysis.
The thing I’ve rambled about the most to my friends (and what I admit is my most outlandish opinion about this episode) is a (for lack of a better descriptor) homoerotic subtext I’ve picked up on regarding the presentation of Blake and Drew’s relationship - which I find to be a reflection of Blake’s relationship with Ellie. Because Drew and Blake are the only characters who appear on screen in the episode (especially in the first half of the episode, before Ellie is mentioned) in order to seed the idea that Blake is an abuser, the writers have to write that aspect of his character into the way he treats Drew. This results in a lot of the allusions to Blake having assaulted Ellie coming in the form of his interactions with Drew. Some of the best examples of this are Blake putting sugar in Drew’s tea after Drew said he didn’t want any, his insistence to force forms of therapy onto Drew without consent, and obviously how he immediately decides to slip one into his tea as soon as Drew combats this (i.e, as soon as Blake feels like he’s losing control over Drew’s behaviour, he tries to sedate him). These work to foreshadow Blake’s nasty history before it's revealed to the audience. By themselves I don’t find these particularly homoerotic, they only become so by virtue of what they represent about Blake’s character (that him preying on his patients is a pattern of behaviour.) I think this subtext exists so strongly in my mind because there are no other examples of Blake behaving in this way with people other than Ellie and then Drew. Blake’s mistreatment of his patients becomes to me almost associated with sexuality, because he takes advantage of Ellie and then treats Drew in a similar manner, without there being another example of him taking advantage of someone non-sexually. When I talk about this subtext it’s in a removed way as something the writers almost definitely didn’t intend but nonetheless is implied by the writing. They have to characterise Blake as a ‘sadist’ and abuser for the narrative, but the episode's nature as a two hander results in this being taken out on Drew. I don’ t think those were Blake’s intentions or anything, I think he was just hoping he’d get Drew on his client list. His violation of Drew’s boundaries throughout the episode is, in a literal sense and intended, to be a platonic display of control and authority as a doctor figure. But when the only other example the narrative gives of his behaviour with past patients is Ellie, that threat lurks between the lines.
I refer to Blake’s relationship with Drew as an example of him mistreating his patients because I think that's how Blake views his relationship with Drew in the first half of the episode. Blake’s treatment of Drew has its foundations in the belief that Blake knows more than Drew, and should exercise control over him because of it. It does not matter that Drew is not his patient because Blake treats him like one anyways. He only drops the idea of making Drew his patient once he realises Drew is Ellie’s father. Drew’s existence then becomes an inconvenience to him and a threat to his career, so he has to get rid of him. I see this as another mirroring of his treatment of Ellie. Blake’s view of people seems to be hierarchical; he decides the value of people based on what he thinks of them and what he can get from them. This aligns with how he answers Drew’s interrogation about the trolley problem - it depends on who’s on the tracks.
Another thing which struck me is something I’ve been crudely referring to as the ‘transposition’ of characters in the episode. Each character assumes the role of another. I've already disclosed how similar I think Drew and Ellie are in their dynamics with Blake. There is also the obvious parallels between Blake and Drew through their roles as fathers, Drew’s attempt to force Blake into his position (‘I want you to know what it's like to be me’), Drew imitating Blake with what he does to Robbie and Blake’s understanding of himself as a replacement for Ellie’s estranged father (Drew). Not revealed until the final moments, Drew also acts as a surrogate for Robbie. How Blake treats Drew is directly connected to Robbie’s fate. Additionally, Robbie is punished for the sins of his father, the same way Drew believes himself responsible for putting Ellie in harm’s way.
In the scene where he pleads with Blake to confess, Drew says ‘father to father’ and ‘don’t let me die not knowing’. Ostensibly these are Drew referring to what Blake did to Ellie, but I actually think at this moment Drew is thinking about Robbie and what will happen to him if Blake kills Drew. Of course it is all dependent on your interpretation of Drew’s character and how guilty he feels about burying Robbie. Drew knows what he’s done to Robbie is killing him. If Drew did not consider ‘letting die’ with the same severity as ‘killing’ then I struggle to find a reason why he’d be going after Blake in the first place. What Drew does to Robbie is his way of recreating what Blake did to Ellie - or atleast what Drew thinks happened - which Drew thinks Blake should be punished for. The act of burying Robbie must disgust Drew because he is imitating Blake and he finds Blake disgusting. When he tells Blake ‘I didn’t kill him, you let him die’ before setting himself alight, I understand it as Drew mocking Blake’s repudiation of guilt over Ellie (‘I didn’t do anything’) rather than it being how Drew actually feels. I'm not sure why Drew does not tell Blake about Robbie until he’s decided they will both die. The only thing I can think of is that it’s because Drew was not aware of the circumstances of Ellie's death until it was too late. As I mentioned I think Drew intended to recreate Ellie's death with Robbie. But I’m not sure. I think Drew puts too much faith in Blake to do the right thing.
I read Drew’s outburst (everything from the laughter yoga up until him coming back out the bathroom to apologise) as a Freudian slip of sorts - unplanned and not a part of his little character he’s playing. Drew is an unstable character, but I don't find him a particularly violent one. When compared to the rest of in9s revenge tragedy catalogue, Drew is the only character whose plan involves putting his own life at risk. Also, I don’t have anything to say about it but it has always stuck in my mind how he brings a spud gun and not a real one.
During their conversation about the Szondi test, Drew’s results describe him as repressing feelings of ‘self-loathing’ and ‘inadequacy’. Up until the final minutes I find it a fair characterisation. He forms this intricate revenge plot, but struggles to keep a hold of it. He tries to get his daughter help for her mental health and ends up unintentionally putting her into the hands of an abuser. He takes Blake hostage, and almost ends up as Blake’s murder victim. He tries to get a confession out of Blake, but Blake won't confess. Even the character Drew creates for Blake is a man who tried to end his own life, but was stopped. Drew’s character is defined by a sense of inadequacy and a lack of control. The only control Drew holds onto in the entire episode is knowing Robbie’s location, and it costs him his life to keep it.
I’m still rather puzzled by the use of the trolley problem (it’s the hardest aspect of the episode for me to understand the purpose of) beyond the recurring theme of in9s revenge plots having the persecutor use an aspect of the target's area of expertise to entrap them. I feel like trying to view the episode through the lens of it ‘being a trolley problem’ makes it fall victim to its inconsistencies. I don’t know how it was supposed to fit into Drew’s plan other than being the catalyst for his thought process behind it. I think he outgrows it too quickly and it becomes muddled in what he’s trying to say.
I hope at least a small percent of this makes sense. This episode is an amalgamation of fascinating little fragments that coalesce into something rather hollow. To me it's an echo of better episodes, but I'm kind of in love with how confused it makes me that I can’t help coming back to pick at it.

Ooooh, how about Vampire Lex from your tag game? Can you tell me a little more about it? (As much as you would like to share) ✨
Hiii
I would love to though honestly I've been stuck on this one for a while. It was a story that came about from a conversation @idabbleincrazy and I had about how Lex from Smallville could easily be a vampire in the series. It just kept steamrolling in my head. I love vampires and Lex as a vampire just.... I really want to finish it. I did settle on making it a bit of an AU/divergent instead of doing a complete rewrite, but I ran into the problem: if I really want Lex to bite Clark and be obsessed with tasting that sweet sweet Kryptonian blood, how does he get through that skin? I'm thinking it has to be something with what made him into a vampire, that maybe the meteors that affected him caused his vampirism which would change the backstory I wanted to have, and... Well that's where I've been stuck between figuring out a different solution (that may involve green kryptonite and Lex being well Lex Luthor) or rewriting the opening I already made.
Thanks so much for asking and bringing me back to this one! I'll ponder on it today and see if I can figure something out.
