One question the Recap gets a lot is, "can I give you translations of the captions in my language?"

Truth is, we would love to. I very much wish. And someday, that is the plan.

However, at the moment, due to (imo well-intentioned but pointless) sanctions, there is currently no way to get money between Russia and most other places.

Pix and I were already on board before the sanctions started, so we were alright finding other solutions, but hiring anyone else right now isn't possible.

I know that internet culture has heavily normalized volunteer labor, especially in the context of moderation and/or accessibility, but we don't want to encourage other big channels that can afford to pay for captions or translations - if not just do it themselves - to cut corners. I also know this is a nasty Catch-22; is it worth exploiting one person's labor to increase multiple others' accessibility?

For right now, we've decided the answer is no, but mostly because we do hope to find a way to get official, paid for translations eventually. (this is not an invitation to volunteer - we already have a "waiting list") But even when we do there will be other things to consider, like how we can even double check a language we don't speak!

In the mean time, we will never object to people posting translated transcripts (text, not video re-uploads, obviously!) elsewhere, though for all the same reasons listed above, please don't take this as a request to actively do so. It's just addressing something that's asked frequently and I felt like speaking up about.

Please also do not take any of this as judgement on any creators who don't have captions (though if not even auto-captions, yes, I'm judging you! it's one button!) or who let volunteers help them with things like captions or moderation. Different creators and communities handle the collision of capitalism and their community's needs in different ways, and I can understand fans viewing it as a way to give back to creators. Hell, my own videos are rarely hand-captioned, despite being employed to do then for multiple other channels (because I just don't have the spoons left to Listen Intently that much after doing all the others), and my moderators are all volunteers. You do the best within the limits you have.

But I also see way too many people out there, especially too many minors, staying up too late to moderate Twitch chats or Subreddits for free, and I will do what I can to help break that cycle. Y'all's time isn't less valuable because you're not an adult, and moderation is inherently a task that by definition involves interacting with (deleting) foul content.

But yeah. That's why we won't be taking translations right now. Thank you for understanding <3

How many works do you have on ao3?

60 in total. But 17 are covers to the chapters of “Mutual Attraction“ (couldn’t properly embed pix then) so I have written 43 fics/ficlets.

What's your total word count?

404.688 (currently posting so number will rise)

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Do you respond to comments? Why/why not?

Yes, always and nearly always within 24 hours max. I love comments, they give me so much joy. Wether it’s an emoji or an elaborate analysis, I adore them all.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

No angsty endings with me. Only one with an ambiguous happy-ish ending is “Until the final breath escapes” and I wrote this for Halloween.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

They all end happily and in Johnlock.

Do you write crossovers?

So far, none. Maybe one day when inspiration hits. (Actually, it has already hit twice but both concepts are very vague. Like very.)

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No real hate. Some inappropiate or weird or rude comments but they have been few.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

When I feel like it, yes. It varies. I’ve written explicit porn as well as “vanilla” smut.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I’ve had kind offers on three fics for translations but I don’t feel comfortable about this so I politely declined.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I cannot tell if it would work but I am not against trying in general.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I have been struggling with “Every fairy-tale needs a good old-fashioned hero” for years now. It should have been my fourth fic but I got knocked out of the vibe back then and now I cannot find my way back although I have tried already two times. I still want to write it. I hate unfinished projects. About 12k written (maybe a third??) and the rest is partly plotted.

What are your writing strengths?

This answer is highly biased, of course. I can write suspenseful action scenes (comments confirm this). I can make readers laugh via funny scenes (comment-confirmed as well). Can write porn and fluff.  I generally think of myself as a versatile writer. And then I get imposter syndrome, like what am I even doing, self-taught writing in not my native language.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing long complicated nested sentences (I’m German. It’s the master language for long sentences) that are really too complicated in English.

Also, see above, I’m not a native speaker (although I count myself as fluent in English) but I write directly in English (no translations!). So, I have to look things/words up to check if they really mean what I think they mean.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Would only be comfortable with German, obviously. Or very easy/short sentences in French or Italian. Only if the fic really needs it.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

BBC Sherlock. I started very late in my life with writing fic. (With writing anything at all, actually.)

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

Klance. Keith Kogane x Lance McLain of Voltron – Legendary Defenders (anime). My second beloved ship. I do not actually want to write for this because there is such a distinct lingo to the characters and techno-babble if one writes in canon and I could not mimic this.

What's your favourite fic you've written?

I am not going to choose! I am proud of every single fic.

ADONIS: I am quite interested in learning about these products.

I heard somewhere that China’s meat products are very diverse, so I have a little understanding of it.

MAKOTO: Haha, then Otogari-kun could check out the butcher’s store, or a Chinese restaurant.

ADONIS: Mhm. Let’s first find a gift for Oogami.

It’s getting late, after all.

MAKOTO: Yup, let’s go directly to the store mentioned online. When we have time, we can browse the rest of the feature area.

SUBARU: Sure! By then, we can call up Gami-san, Hokke and the others for a grand adventure~

MAKOTO: It should be in this area. Let’s go to this store first~

SUBARU: Whoa! It’s so red! It feels like the color red is everywhere~

MAKOTO: Let me check. These seem to be called good luck knots, or Chinese knots. Their meanings range from ‘good luck and good fortune’ to ‘peace and prosperity’.

SUBARU: This material is super comfy to the touch. I think I’ll buy a bunch to hang on my body later~

Huh? Where did Occhan go? Ukki, have you seen Occhan?

MAKOTO: Ahh, nope… I was too fixated looking at all this stuff and in a moment of carelessness… er…

These are some strange-looking animals. Which country are they from?

SUBARU: These should be the mythical beasts Ukki told us about, right?

MAKOTO: Yup, I’ve seen some of these beasts in games of mine, so I recognize a few.

SUBARU: This one, this one! This one should be the divine dragon ☆ The one from Dr*gon B*ll that can grant wishes~

MAKOTO: You’re right, but I think this one matches Akehoshi-kun well~

This is called a pixiu[1]. In local culture, it is an auspicious beast that attracts wealth and treasure. It can bless Akehoshi-kun with tons of sparkly money ♪

SUBARU: Wow! This one’s good, I want to buy this one ☆

I’ll take really good care of you, so I’m asking you to bless me with a steady supply of super sparkly and shiny money ♪

ADONIS: Um, Yuuki, do you know what this one is? The one that looks like a turtle carrying something on its back.

MAKOTO: This should be a bixi[2]. What it’s carrying on its back is a stone tablet.

SUBARU: What a poor thing, having to carry su~ch a heavy object.

MAKOTO: Haha, it’s not what Akehoshi-kun thinks. In fact, this guy likes the weight; despite it, he always holds his head high, and never stops moving forward.

ADONIS: I want to buy this one. Although I’m unsure what it symbolizes, I greatly admire its tenacity.

MAKOTO: Mhm, I also feel like this creature is suitable for Otogari-kun~

But let’s see what to buy for Oogami-kun first. We all went off and bought our own things, and ended up forgetting the main quest.

SUBARU: Hm? Does that mean Ukki bought something too?

MAKOTO: Yup, this is what I bought. Hopefully it can protect me while I escape from my recent misfortunes~

SUBARU: This is a phoenix[3], isn’t it?

MAKOTO: Mhm, that’s right~ By the way, I just picked this out for Oogami-kun. What do you all think?

SUBARU: Wow, this one looks super majestic! Gami-san is sure to like it!

A pirate’s life for me! 🏴‍☠️ (music video link in bio!) ⠀ ⠀ Okay so who else was SHOOK when the video transitioned from Ariel into the pirate scene?! I was LIVING hanging out on the Pearl with Jack Sparrow! (aka @fanboybrandon) Can I just be a little pirate boy all the time?! 🙏🏼😉 Do you guys remember when I gushed about Sora’s pirate outfit in my @kingdomhearts Disney World vlog back in January? Well I am here to tell you that DREAMS DO COME TRUE! ⠀ ⠀ Fun fact: the costumers I wanted to work with for this costume weren’t available in time for this particular shoot, so I was up till 4am the night before we filmed this putting the costume together on my own. SO worth it! 10/10 would do it again every time! 🙌🏼 I’m really happy with how these scenes in particular turned out! I really wanted to make Sora feel real, and translate him into the gritty, mysterious world of The Caribbean! The ships we were on are so authentic, I wanted to match that same feel with our live action characters and costuming! This was also my favorite makeup look from the whole video! All the dirt! All the grime! Hehe And is @fanboybrandon not the most legit Jack the world has ever seen or what? He embodies the character so well I forget he isn’t actually him!
