Work I’ve done since last Thursdays session. I started developing that new font that I mentioned in the previous post, but found it was drifting too far from my message. I think also, there were too many rules I had come up with and it was hard to create consistency among my letters. I decided it would be better to go back to previous iterations of my font.  I mostly explored layouts, fonts and colours. I really liked the look of black on a very soft hue of pink. I think it comes up as a lilac in illustrator. The other thing I’ve done is include drawings I’ve done in paint. When I go back and I think about the tone for my audience, most initiatives take an academic/ formal tone. But I think my audience would respond better to an informal/ humorous tone.  Also, when I go back and think about the designers that I look up to, they include humour in their work, so why wouldn’t I take the opportunity?  Making a point of there being kava and talanoa. Like, why would I come to this event? Oh, there’s going to be Kava. Cool. I’ll go.  A lot of these layouts are too busy, I was trying to compensate for a lack of content by jamming in as many Ideas as I could. However, the best compositions are the ones where I use 1 or 2 fonts, and one image/ illustration.

In terms of improving these posters/ compositions. The text is floating, so I need to come up with a grid that I can then use as layout that caries out throughout all my collateral.  I’m definitely starting to feel like I have more direction than I did I previously. I think I can still refine the WHO? WHAT HOW?
