TGAA's blood curse at the end of case 1 is actually the funniest thing in the series. "Okay this is a prequel but we're not going to have any hard continuity to the main series, only oblique references here and there- OH EXCEPT PHOENIX'S FAMILY AND THE PAYNES HAVE BEEN BEEFING FOR OVER A HUNDRED YEARS. YEAH IT WAS SO BAD KAZUMA MADE A SACRED VOW ABOUT IT." He specifically curses Auchi, not on his own behalf, but for Naruhodo's lineage. Doesn't even have to be biologically related! Susato pretends to be related to Ryuunosuke in game 2 and that is thematically recognized as fulfilling the requirements of Kazuma's vow in the first game. A century and a whole country away, Apollo has the narrative weight to beat a Payne, and he is Phoenix's adopted daughter's half-brother. This family literally goes to a whole other country to escape the Naruhodo clan, and still can't shake them. Twice.

I 100% choose to believe that since magic is real in the aa universe Kazuma managed to actually curse an entire bloodline. He has no idea the far reaching consequences of this. He did this accidentally through the sheer power of Gay Love and A Really Cool Sword.

1 am I’m thinking about how Ace Attorney explores children who were forced to mature at a young age with Franziska and Susato specifically for some reason

I’ve heard people say “Franziska’s age doesn’t make sense! How is she 19 but acts like an older adult?” and that’s exactly the point! I don’t think it’s some sort of like, writing error or joke or something. Yeah the “started prosecuting at age 13” is a little bit of fun anime nonsense. But she has every reason to be acting mature for her age! The combination of the abuse she likely endured as a child and the extremely harsh expectations that were put on her are what make her act the way she does. Of course she’s like an adult, Manfred probably expected her to act practically like a grown woman since her early teenage years! She would’ve faced punishment if she didn’t! The series doesn’t go super into this so I guess a lot of people miss it.

I think the way they do it with Susato is super interesting too. She’s 16 years old!! She’s closer to Iris’ age than she is to Ryu’s! Yet she usually feels as if she’s the same age, and is practically expected to guide him along through everything. Susato’s case is definitely due to the time period’s attitude towards women/girls and younger women having more expected of them in general. This isn’t very directly explored of course because I guess it would get a bit too dark but it’s definitely there! People see some of her decisions as rash and ridiculous but that stuff in particular really stood out to me because man, she’s like 16. Again, I really don’t think these things are like examples of “how fucked up the ages are in ace attorney” or something. Yeah that can happen sometimes but Franziska and Susato’s forced maturity feels more (unfortunately) appropriate based on what they’ve lived through. It’s very intentional and I’m sure there’s other characters in the series who show examples of this as well. (I just see Franziska and Susato as some of the most obvious.)
