All of this has led me to look up more about Ambassador of the Nonmalt’s writer, finding out he was one of the main writers for Ultraseven and Ultra Q and the head writer for Ultraman, and that he directly experienced colonial suppression and discrimination which he drew on for stories like Nonmalt and his life in general was just so awful and he tragically passed away as young as 37 like. This man is singlehandedly responsible for so much of my favourite Showa Ultra stories and was really trying to say something with them and I’ve got so much respect and sadness for this man. Tetsuo Kinjo you are a fucking real one

I know that Ultraman is supposed to be a Christ-like figure and that Eiji Tsuburaya was a devout catholic. So I’m watching the Alien Mefilas episode of Ultraman and noticing some similarities between Mefilas and Satan, and the whole episode is probably taking inspiration from parts of the Bible where Satan tries to tempt Jesus into giving into something in exchange for something Jesus would want.
It makes me wonder if Tetsuo Kinjo (the main writer for ultraman) was a devout catholic like Eiji Tsuburaya.
Also I’m a bit new to the ultra fandom but I can already tell Mefilas is probably a sexyman within the fandom because…
Watching through the original Ultraman is like reading through classic literature but for the kaiju genre.
I’ve been living and breathing kaiju for most of my life but never really got into the ultra series, so seeing it now is just every few episodes I see something and am like “oh, this is where this trope originated!”.
Ultraman really put the “strange” in strange beast/kaiju huh.

How do you come up with such great Kaiju OC names? Cause when I create a kaiju oc, that is the only hard thing I'm dealing with is what to call it. For example I created the giant orca like monster. He is known as the great guardian Orcus. Now I'm trying to come up with more, and I can't think of any names for them.
Crash course in Kaiju Names!- One good technique is something simple that a child can pronounce. “Me-Ga-Lon,” “E-Bi-Rah,” etc. Kaiju names in Japan are traditionally rendered in katakana, and made to read like sound effects or foreign words. “Go-Ji-Ra” has an almost lyrical quality to it.
- Naming after whatever animal the kaiju is based on is also a good start, but get creative with it. For example, “Baragon” is derived from “Doragon” (the Japanese pronunciation for “Dragon”) and “Bara bara,” which is the sound of something shaking or breaking apart (according to an old G-Fan issue). “Ghidorah” is often assumed to have received his name from the Japanese pronunciation of “Hydra” or “Hi-Yu-Do-Rah.” “Guiron” is named after the word “Guillotine,” so technically he would be “Guillon.”- Then there’s weird shit, like “Red King.” Originally he was considered to be the “king of all monsters” until that was changed in the planning stages of the Ultraman series. But he was called “Red” because Red is the color of violence and rage, not necessarily his actual body color. King Joe, for another example, was named after Tetsuo KINJO, the lead writer of the early Ultra series (thanks Ultra Wiki!) “Telesdon” or “Teresdon” is named after the word “Terrestrial.”- Sometimes I would get REALLY weird with it and look up species names and whatnot. For example, the named Cryog in Rulers of Earth, while not kaiju, are named after various shark species. Many Kaiju Combat monsters have really specific names as well based on Latin words for different animals.Hope that helps!

Tetsuo Kinjo Ultra Series Scenario Book Reprinted
A book containing select Ultra Series scripts by Tetsuo Kinjo is back in print.
Tsuburaya’s “Ultra 50” anniversary marches on with the re-release of the Tetsuo Kinjo Scenario Collection, a book featuring some of the playwright’s scripts from Ultra Q and Ultraman. Kinjo is perhaps the second-most important figure in Ultra history next to Eiji Tsuburaya himself, having come up with many of the ideas and themes that would become part of the franchise’s DNA.
