THE REGIONAL WAR in the Middle East now involves at least 16 different countries and includes the first strikes from Iranian territory on Israel, but the United States continues to insist that there is no broader war, hiding the extent of American military involvement. And yet in response to Iran’s drone and missile attacks Saturday, the U.S. flew aircraft and launched air defense missiles from at least eight countries, while Iran and its proxies fired weapons from Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.
[...]
While the world has been focused on — and the Pentagon has been stressing — the comings and goings of aircraft carriers and fighter jets to serve as a “deterrent” against Iran, the U.S. has quietly built a network of air defenses to fight its regional war. “At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week,” President Joe Biden said in a statement Saturday. “Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles.” As part of that network, Army long-range Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense surface-to-air missile batteries have been deployed in Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and at the secretive Site 512 base in Israel. These assets — plus American aircraft based in Kuwait, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia — are knitted together in order to communicate and cooperate with each other to provide a dome over Israel (and its own regional bases). The United Kingdom is also intimately tied into the regional war network, while additional countries such as Bahrain have purchased Patriot missiles to be part of the network. Despite this unambiguous regional network, and even after Israel’s attack on Iran’s embassy in Syria earlier this month, the Biden administration has consistently denied that the Hamas war has spread beyond Gaza. It is a policy stance — and a deception — that has held since Hamas’s October 7 attack. “The Middle East region is quieter than it has been in two decades,” Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan said in an ill-timed remark eight days before October 7. “We don’t see this conflict widening as it still remains contained to Gaza,” deputy Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh said the day after three U.S. troops were killed by a kamikaze drone launched by an Iran-backed militia at a U.S. base in Jordan. Since then (and even before this weekend), the fighting has spread to Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Yemen.

About the Blinken/Austin letter to Israel
Link: https://www.politico.com/news/2024/10/15/white-house-ultimatum-israeli-gaza-00183737
Summary: Secretary of State Blinken and Secretary of Defense Austin sent a letter to Israel that, on a naive reading, demands Israel stop committing genocide so openly and threatens to reduce US weapons deliveries if they don't comply.
It is a meaningless election stunt.
After providing over $20,000,000,000 in weapons to commit genocide, the Secretaries of State and Defense know exactly what Israel is doing with those bombs and planes, artillery shells and white phosphorus.
They waited until October to send this letter, and they didn't ask for a letter in response until after the US election. Israelis can read a calendar and understand that this is completely toothless.
Spokesman John Kirby was clear: the letter “was not meant as a threat”.
Kirby also talked about a previous letter sent in April and claims that was somehow a success.
But even Politico can see through this bullshit, as their article concludes:
It is unlikely, however, that the U.S. would make good on threats to withhold foreign military financing to Israel. Over the past year, Israel has defied U.S. ultimatums and experienced little punishment from its ally. Just this week, the U.S. also announced it would deploy a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system to Israel (along with U.S. troops to operate it), providing a major upgrade to Israel’s defensive capabilities.
This is a couple of guys who know their bosses are losing the election, looking to shift the blame and pretending that a fucking letter is really important.
The Biden pledge: After providing over $20,000,000,000 in weapons, multiple UN vetoes, and legal pressure on the ICC and ICJ, they will also send 2 letters.

After posting earlier today about the THAAD Battery going to Israel, it’s surprising to me how many didn’t know about “Site 512” which is the only Permanent U.S. Military Installation in Israel.
Site 512, which is operated by the 1st Space Brigade of the U.S. Army and sits atop Mount Har Qeren in Southern Israel, was opened in the Early 2000s by the Bush Administration as a Top Secret Radar Facility featuring less than 100 Soldiers; but since then the Base has received several Expansions, including one in 2017 and one 2023 which constructed enough Barracks Space to house roughly 1,000 Personnel.
Currently around 300 American Service members are stationed at the Base, alongside a AN/TPY-2 Surveillance Transportable Radar and several Early-Warning Systems focused on Iran; in addition, there is believed to be a MIM-104 “Patriot” Surface-to-Air Missile Battery and at least some of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Battery located at the Site.

No, the U.S. is not ‘putting pressure’ on Israel to end its war
A letter from the Biden administration to Israel this week threatening to possibly withhold weapons raised hopes among some, but the delivery of a missile defense system and deployment of U.S. soldiers sent the real message.
Blinken and Austin wrote a letter that, as usual, poses little threat of consequences. They do take a baby step forward, stating that Israel’s failure to comply with the terms of the letter “may have implications for U.S. policy under NSM-20 (this is the National Security Memorandum that Biden issued in March requiring reporting on recipients of military aid’s compliance with U.S. and international humanitarian law) and relevant U.S. law.” By saying it “may have implications,” there is a clear inference: failure to comply may not have any effect at all on the tidal wave of weapons for Israel. Given the history of not only American, but specifically Biden’s relationship with Israel, it is far more likely that there will be no consequences.
[...]
When it comes to wartime propaganda a credulous media always helps. The Associated Press, reporting on the letter from the Secretaries, headlined their article, “US warns Israel to boost humanitarian aid into Gaza or risk losing weapons funding.” But, of course, the U.S. did no such thing.
[...]
The really meaningful message to Israel did not come this week from Antony Blinken and Lloyd Austin. It came on a ship, the one that carried the THAAD missile defense system. And it came accompanied by some one hundred American soldiers. The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) is a highly sophisticated system that has proven highly effective at shooting down short—and medium-range missiles as they descend toward their targets. The U.S. previously deployed a THAAD battery to Israel in 2019 for a training exercise, but this is the first time one has been stationed in Israel with so many American troops to operate it as part of a defense system. The deployment of the THAAD will give Israel an added layer of impunity in its efforts to provoke a regional war with Iran. The presence of U.S. troops enhances the chances that Israel can draw Washington into such a conflict.
[...]
Kamala Harris made it clear that she is playing the game right along with her boss. “This moment gives us an opportunity to finally end the war in Gaza. And it must end such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to freedom, security, dignity and self-determination. It is time for the day-after to begin without Hamas in power,” Harris stated. Other Biden officials echoed similar sentiments, ignoring the very same reality that Biden has ignored for a year: that Netanyahu and the bulk of Israel’s government has no interest in ending the war on Gaza. Even the leader of the opposition, the so-called “moderate” Gantz makes it clear that there is no prospect for this.

The U.S. will not deploy a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery in Eastern Europe to help Ukraine intercept Russian missiles and drones as it is being done in Israel, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said during an Oct. 15 press briefing.
According to her, “the commitments to Israel and Ukraine are different, different wars, different regions” that require “different capabilities.”
“It is a little bit of apples and oranges here,” she said, without providing any clarification, emphasizing U.S. President Joe Biden's commitment to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes and to continue to support Ukraine in what it needs on the battlefield.
“I don't want to go down the whole list of everything that we're providing Ukraine to everything that we're providing to Israel. But what I can tell you is this administration, this department continues to support both in the different needs that they need.”
Over the weekend, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin authorized the deployment of a THAAD battery and associated U.S. military personnel to bolster Israel's air defenses following Iran's attacks against Israel.

Don Campbell was an SR 71 crew chief, and he received a letter from my father in 1989. His son, Don Campbell Junior, found this file and sent it to me. This is what my father wrote about the SR 71 when he was trying to save the program. He talked to the Senators individually. At one point, Dad tried to give away the SR-71s to the New York National Guard, which almost worked until General Welch shut it down. Dad was in a car with a New York senator discussing saving the SR-71s. When Dad offered all of the SR 71 to New York. The Senator was so excited. Dad said he nearly jumped out of the car!!
The US Air Force plans to terminate all SR 71 strategic reconnaissance operations by September 1989. This move is taken as a cost-saving measure but ignores the unique mission capabilities of the SR-71 and its key role in the US intelligence system. The SR-71 directly supports all levels of intelligence nationals, strategic and tactical. It has an all-weather day-night capability and remains the fastest high and fly aircraft in the world.
It’s a modern sensor suite exemplified by the (ASARS) the advanced synthetic aperture radar system enables it to gather high-resolution imagery through clouds, and in periods of darkness, its high operational altitude, along with the long-range Capability of its sensors enables the SR 71 to image denied areas without actually overflying them. It is frequently tasked to cover target areas inaccessible to other reconnaissance systems and to provide fast reaction coverage of crisis areas such as Nicaragua, Libya, and the Persian Gulf. Its advanced defense system will protect the SR 71 against surface and air-launched threats well into the next century. Its survivability has been repeatedly proven during deep penetration missions into high-threat environments in the face of defense budget strength the SR 71 is a good bargain. USAF investments and SR 71 systems and support are paying off. The fleet is modern and up-to-date sensors and operating systems are state of the art.
There are now more spare engines in reserve ready to fly at any point in the history of the program. Over 400 million worth of spare parts plus an additional 200 million of bond stock are capable of supporting the SR 71 operations for years to come. The cost of an SR 71 Wing is roughly the same as the cost of an F 15 Wing.
The SR 71 has no peer.
Its contributions to peacetime reconnaissance requirements of the nation remain essential. It is also needed to meet.. pre- and post. SlOP intelligence mission requirements.
Its continual operation until a replacement reconnaissance system is fully operational is mandatory.~Butch Sheffield
Congress was lied to by the Pentagon Generals by saying there would be a new SR 71 it’s been 35 years we still haven’t seen it. There is no Aurora. That was a myth. The Generals lied to Congress about how much it cost to run the program Isn’t lying to Congress against the law?
Their “fighter pilot mafia” left the United States Air Force with a vacuum during the Persian Gulf War. If they had the SR 71 like they did during the Vietnam War they could’ve easily found their targets. I wonder how many men had to die in that War because there was no SR 71 to give the fighter pilots, their target. This paper was written before the Persian Gulf War.
I cannot change the past, but I can change the public perception that the SR 71 was canceled because we had something better and because the cost was too high. It has been proven that the cost of not having an SR 71 was too high .~Linda Sheffield

By Andrew P. Napolitano
Can the president fight any war he wishes? Can Congress fund any war it chooses? Are there constitutional and legal requirements that must first be met before war is waged?
These questions should be addressed in a national debate over the U.S. military involvement in Ukraine and Israel. Sadly, there has been no debate. The media are mouthing what the C.I.A. is telling them, Congress is in lock-step, and only a few websites and podcasts — my own, “Judging Freedom” on YouTube, among them — are challenging the government’s reckless, immoral, illegal and unconstitutional wars.
The Supreme Court has ruled that all power in the federal government comes from the Constitution and from no other source. Congress, however, has managed to extend its reach beyond the confines of the Constitution domestically by spending money in areas that it cannot regulate and purchasing compliance from the states by bribing them; and in foreign policy by paying for wars it cannot legally declare.
Congress cannot legally declare war on Russia or Iran, since there is no American militarily grounded reason for doing so. Russia and Iran pose no credible threats to American national security. Moreover, the U.S. has no treaties with Ukraine or Israel that trigger an American military defense. But Congress spends money on those wars nevertheless.
Under the Constitution, only Congress can declare war on a nation or group. The last time it did so was to initiate American involvement in World War II. But Congress has given away limited authority to presidents and permitted them to fight undeclared wars, such as the War Powers Resolution of 1973 and President George W. Bush’s disastrous and criminal invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
Last week, the Biden administration announced that it was sending around 100 troops to Israel to man the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, or THAAD, the U.S. has sent there. Then, the administration announced that it was sending a second THAAD unit and another 100 troops. The THAADs will presumably be used in Israel’s defense against Iran.

[ad_1] The United States announced Friday the deployment of additional military assets to the Middle East, including ballistic missile defense destroyers and long-range B-52 bomber aircraft, serving as a warning to Iran as it and Israel trade tit-for-tat strikes. “Should Iran, its partners, or its proxies use this moment to target American personnel or interests in the region, the United States will take every measure necessary to defend our people,” Pentagon spokesman Major General Pat Ryder said in a statement. In a statement, the Department of Defence (DoD) said, “In keeping with our commitments to the protection of US citizens and forces in the Middle East, the defence of Israel, and deescalation through deterrence and diplomacy, the Secretary of Defence ordered the deployment of additional ballistic missile defence destroyers, fighter squadron and tanker aircraft, and several US Air Force B-52 long-range strike bombers to the region. These forces will begin to arrive in the coming months as the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group prepares to depart.” It added, “These deployments build on the recent decision to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defence system to Israel as well as DoD’s sustained Amphibious Ready Group Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) posture in the Eastern Mediterranean. These movements demonstrate the flexible nature of the US global defence posture and the US capability to deploy worldwide on short notice to meet evolving national security threats.” The Pentagon statement further said that the Defence Secretary has reiterated his commitment that the United States will take all the necessary measures to defend its people.
