William Laurence truly has one of the funniest character arcs of all time. He does a complete 360 over the course of the series. Totally turned around yet somehow exactly where he started. He completely changed his worldview while being absolutely steadfast about it. He undergoes impressive character development while his character does not change at all. He is so damn stubborn about his preconceived notions of honor that he is willing to abandon his preconceived notions of dragons, gender, and race. He transcends the regency society he lives in not by breaking the confines of rigid values but by expanding those confines to include everyone.

I think all I really need in life right now is a lavishly illustrated Temeraire artbook with pretty dragon breed classification pages to reference while I'm binging the books. I think some nice watercolor dragons would fix me.

I painted a dragon figurine to look like Lung Tien Lien from Naomi Noviks Temeraire series!

I decided to give her wings a pink edge to match her red eyes.

She is wearing her golden necklace with rubies, her golden talon sheaths and a stylish Tiara. Coming up with what her jewellery could be on the figurine was the most fun out of this project :D

William Laurence is a captain in the British Royal Navy in the Napoleonic Wars until he accidentally bonds with a dragon hatchling found on a captured French vessel, whereupon he is dragged into joining the Royal Aerial Corps instead.

Temeraire (the dragon) is a staunch dragon rights advocate and Laurence is his biggest supporter.

Okay I've been thinking temeraire thoughts recently and like. I CANNOT articulate why I love Laurence so much like if I just describe him he doesn't come off as special. Like yeah a white British man with blond hair and blue eyes who has Honor and Duty dialed up to eleven and who eventually gets radicalized by his friend? Nothing truly stands out. You learn his friend is actually a dragon and he lives in an alternate history during the Napoleonic Wars? Okay slightly more interesting. You learn he has a maybe boyfriend and everyone he knows seems to be in love with him? Yeah pretty normal.

Like Laurence my love you're in the stuffy history textbooks. They write the exciting children's books about Temeraire.

Nonetheless I love him and that's that.
