Telegram CEO Announces "Changes in Telegram's content moderation practices"

Telegram has recently faced significant criticism for its perceived inadequacies in moderating content on its platform. In response, Pavel Durov, Telegram’s CEO, has announced plans to address these concerns by potentially removing features that have been exploited for illegal activities. Durov was arrested last week and questioned regarding allegations of fraud, money laundering, and facilitating the distribution of child pornography-related content.

Durov addressed Telegram users, stating, “While 99.999% of our users are not involved in crime, the small fraction of 0.001% who are creating a negative image for the entire platform and putting the interests of our nearly billion users at risk. That’s why this year, we are focused on improving our content moderation to transform it from a point of criticism into a positive highlight.”

Though specific changes were not detailed, Durov mentioned that Telegram has already taken measures by disabling new media uploads to a standalone blogging tool, which was being misused by anonymous users. Additionally, Telegram has removed the less frequently used People Nearby feature due to problems with bots and scammers and will now highlight legitimate, verified businesses near users instead.

This announcement marks the first disclosure of modifications since Durov’s arrest. His lawyer has criticized the investigation, arguing that it is unreasonable to hold Durov accountable for the actions of app users.

In a previous statement, Durov acknowledged Telegram's imperfections but refuted media claims that it is an "anarchic paradise." He emphasized, “We take down millions of harmful posts and channels every day.” Durov also expressed surprise at the French investigation, suggesting that authorities could have reached out directly to Telegram’s EU representative or him to address any concerns. He commented, “When a country has issues with an internet service, the usual approach is to initiate legal action against the service itself.”

Journalist Saed Al-Zaneen reports that the occupation is dropping incendiary bombs—bombs which cause massive fiery explosions—on civilians in Jabaliya.

Saed and a group of fellow journalists were targeted by the IOF while working in the area, injuring 3 members of the journalist team.

To the south in Zaytoun, Gaza City (still in north Gaza), quadcopters, drones, and snipers firiring constantly in the area around Salah al-Din Mosque and Hariya/Freedom School. Anyone and anything that moves is targeted, leading to numerous casualties.

"Russian-born Durov was detained Saturday at Paris’s Bourget Airport on a warrant related to Telegram’s lack of moderation.

Those charges include allegations that his platform was complicit in aiding fraudsters, money launders, drug traffickers and people spreading child sexual exploitation content, French prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a statement Monday. Beccuau added that Durov is accused of refusing to communicate “information or documents” related to the investigation."

There is no fundamental difference between the Republican and Democratic parties; both have contributed to supporting the zionist entity and participated in the war of genocide against our people, whether through policies or unlimited military and diplomatic support.

Our people have never placed their hopes on any candidate from either the Democratic or Republican parties, as we have never witnessed any positive change in U.S. administration policies, which have consistently aligned fully with the zionist entity, providing it with military funding and all forms of political, legal, and diplomatic protection.

The Democratic Party’s loss is a logical result of its complicity with the zionist entity; it rejected calls from supporters of the Palestinian people, the Palestinian community, and Arab and Muslim communities in the United States to pressure for an end to the war of genocide in Gaza, continuing its support for aggression against our people. Today, the Democrats are paying the price for ignoring these demands at the ballot box.
