Sad to inform that Jochen Peuyn aka Sorgenkint passed away in a car accident. He performed in second edition of Rave Fm Audio Festival, soon we will upload his memorial perfomance (he was an acid music lover)

He was born 1982 in Willich, Germany. Already in the early days as child he noticed that he is highly interested in music. After the dead of his brother in 1995, he started to learn guitar which his brother left him. He spent a lot time with his guitar and music, and he began to understand, admire and play music of all kinds of style. Jochen played guitar, drums, bass guitar and keyboard and is as real multitalented musician. In the beginning he was more addicted to Crossover, Metal and Hip Hop, but soon he discovered ACiD music...!

That was the start of his career as Sorgenkint and after he bought a groovebox, his main target was to play ACiD as Dj and Live. Three month after this his discovery of ACiD he already has his first gig on a Technotronica-Party. It wasn't a long time, that other DJ's call attention on him and so the Dj and Promoter Man at Arms noticed his talent and the beginning of a long cooperation between them was born. He was booked on a lot of ACiD partys, next to the ACiD Legend..s Brixton, Rob ACiD, ACiD Junkies. In his Live-Performance there was not only the sound of electronic synthesizers, he also combinds it with real drums, guitar riffs and vocals. In 2007 he started his first label SORGENVIBES.

My Top 50 Albums of 2017: 20-11

20. Kid Koala ft Emilíana Torrini – Music to Draw to: Satellite When Kid Koala isn’t busy being one of the best turntablists around, he devotes his time to making otherworldly atmospheric soundtrack scores.  Part collaboration with vocalist Emiliana Torrini, Music to Draw to sees Kid Koala using microsynths, field recordings, and strings, to create a chilling celestial soundscape. 

19. Liars – TFCF A lineup change happened that sees just original member Angus working on TFCF. This album is as brash as it is a beautiful; a heartbreaking work of introspection (without losing their experimental sensibilities) in the Liars discography.

18. Timber Timbre – Sincerely, Future Pollution As upbeat as Timber Timbre can get, this record sees the band still doing their morose measures, but this time the bass and guitar lines are way crunchier, the drums a bit more clipped, while still being as smooth and sexy as the velvet they sing about.

17. Sam Patch – Yeah You, and I Yeah You, and I¸ starts with an instantly catchy piano line, which never lets up for the rest of the record.  The songs are intricate pieces of Canadiana, with each instrument utilised in their most lively way.  It’s a wonderful achievement for one of Canada’s best multi-instrumentalists (bonus points for the Basia Bulat and Jeremy Gara cameos!)

16. Lydia Ainsworth – Darling of the Afterglow In terms of spooky technotronica, Lydia Ainsworth is in a league all her own.  Using what she learned from film composing and from her 2014 debut, Darling of the Afterglow elevates Lydia’s sound without losing her path.  The songs may be pop-ier, but the manipulated vocals and heavy piano chords sound like incantations you never want to stop dancing to.  

15. Fiver – Audible Songs from Rockwood A concept album that’s as empowering as it heartbreaking, it’s obvious Simone really pours her heart into everything she does.  And incredible folk album about a history of Canadian female health care injustices, each song is well thought out and delivered with Fiver’s signature compelling churr.

14. PEACH PIT – Being so Normal Combining surf, kraut, and indie pop, this debut is as impressive as it is enjoyable to listen too.  Neil Smith’s vocals are sometimes smooth, sometimes rough, but warble in an earnest way.  With matching outfits to boot, the guitar riffs are as clean and crunchy as Vancouver itself, and the album is reflective excursion in being a west coast teen.  

13. The Weather Station – The Weather Station The Weather Station came back grown up and more rock n roll!  With this triumphant self titled album, Lindeman ups the orchestration to create a folk rock masterpiece.  

12. Chad VanGaalen – Light Information Another great album from one of Canada’s best craftsman.  Although a bit more straightforward than experimental this time, Light Information seriously highlights how creative Chad is, and how fantastic he is as crafting songs.  The instrumentation is kept loose while Chad’s echoy vocals creep along seamlessly.

11. The Wooden Sky – Swimming in Strange Waters   I didn’t think The Wooden Sky would be able to top Let’s Be Ready but here we are. From the crunching psych guitars of the opening title track, to the relaxed closer, this album packs a punch.  Each song gets better and brighter than the last which makes this an album you’ll want to listen to again and again.
