THE IMPORTANCE OF TANK FILTER IN MAINTAINING THE HEALTH OF AQUATIC LIVES AND PRESENCE OF GOOD BACTERIA INSIDE THE AQUARIUM
Tumblr media
Aquarium filters are vital components for maintaining the health and well-being of aquatic pets, playing a crucial role in creating and sustaining a balanced ecosystem within the tank. For aquarium owners, understanding the importance of filters can enhance their ability to provide a thriving environment for their aquatic companions.
One of the primary functions of an aquarium filter is to maintain water quality. In a closed aquatic environment, harmful substances such as ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates can accumulate due to fish waste, uneaten food, and decaying organic matter. If left unchecked, these toxic compounds can have detrimental effects on fish health, leading to stress and even death. Filters actively remove these harmful substances, helping to ensure that the water remains safe for its inhabitants.
In addition to removing harmful chemicals, filters also play a vital role in aerating the water. Many filters are designed to increase oxygen exchange in the tank, which is essential for the survival of fish and other aquatic organisms. Adequate oxygen levels are necessary for respiration and overall health, allowing aquatic pets to thrive.
Another significant benefit of aquarium filters is their ability to support the growth of beneficial bacteria. These microorganisms play a critical role in breaking down waste products through the nitrogen cycle, converting harmful ammonia into less toxic substances. By fostering a balanced nitrogen cycle, filters help maintain a stable environment that is crucial for the well-being of fish and other aquatic life.
Tumblr media
Now here's Jan Lloyd Tan, a fish enthusiast that keeps various species of fishes as a hobby, I asked him a series of questions regarding the importance of having a tank filter in his aquarium and what frustrations he experiences when filters are absent or malfunctioning.
Customer Job
"How important is it for you to have a reliable filtration system in place for your aquarium?"
He answered, "It's extremely important because a reliable filtration system ensures clean water and keeps my fish healthy by maintaining the right balance in the tank."
Pains
"What specific challenges do you encounter when using your aquarium filter?"
He stated that, "The main challenge I face is frequent clogging, which slows down water flow and forces me to clean the filter more often than I'd like."
Gains
"What benefits do you expect to experience if you use biological pebbles to your current filtration system?"
He replied, "I would feel more confident knowing that biological pebbles support the natural balance in my aquarium, providing a healthier environment for my fish."
Conclusion
In conclusion, aquarium hobbyists like Tan value reliable, low-maintenance filtration systems that promote a healthy aquatic environment. Addressing the pain points of frequent clogging and offering biological filtration could significantly improve their experience.

My father, a 61-year-old lifelong aquarium enthusiast, has always been deeply invested in the well-being of his fish and aquatic pets. One afternoon, we sat down to discuss the importance of having a reliable filtration system for his aquarium.
“How important is it for you to have a reliable filtration system in place for your aquarium?” I asked.
He paused for a moment before replying, “I feel more relaxed when I know my filter is working properly. It takes away the worry about sudden water contamination. If something goes wrong, it can harm the fish, and that’s always stressful.”
His years of experience with different filtration systems have taught him the importance of consistency in maintaining water quality. When I asked about the challenges he faced with his current filter, his expression shifted slightly. “It’s really stressful when I realize the filter isn’t doing its job. You can go from crystal clear water to murky water in no time. The fish rely on good water quality, so when the filter isn’t working properly, it’s a constant worry.”
His insights reflected the common concerns of many fish enthusiasts who depend heavily on their filtration systems to avoid sudden water issues.
We then discussed the possibility of enhancing his current setup with biological pebbles. “I think the biological pebbles would help,” he said thoughtfully. “They provide a natural surface for good bacteria to grow, and that should make the whole filtration system more efficient. If it improves water quality, it’s definitely worth trying.”
Through our conversation, it became clear that for my father, having a reliable filtration system isn’t just a technical necessity—it’s a vital part of ensuring his fish thrive and his mind stays at ease. His passion for maintaining a healthy aquarium has grown over the years, and the potential of adding biological pebbles seems like the next step in his ever-evolving aquarium journey.

PAWS AID!🐾
Caring for pets is a priority, and as pet ownership grows, so does the demand for quality, accessible care. Owners seek not only easier access to emergency services but also prioritize routine care like better nutrition, preventive measures, and regular vet visits to improve their pets' health.
During the interview, the pet owner expressed a desire for more affordable and accessible services. She emphasized that while she wants the best for her pets, the high costs of veterinary care often force her to delay seeking help until her pets are clearly unwell. This delay reflects a broader issue where rising costs hinder routine check-ups, vaccinations, and early preventive care, all of which are crucial for maintaining long-term health.
This conversation made me realize that many pet owners, despite their best intentions, struggle to access timely care due to financial problems. As a result, they may miss opportunities to address health issues early on, leading to more serious and costly problems later.
After this interview, I realized the growing need for solutions that make pet care more affordable and accessible. Addressing this problem could help pet owners to provide regular care, improving their pets' overall health without the burden of financial stress. Offering cost-effective options such as wellness plans, consultations services for routine care could greatly benefit both pets and their owners.

DESIGN THINKING IN TECHNOPRENEURSHIP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Design thinking is a methodology that centers on comprehending the requirements and obstacles of persons in order to develop workable solutions. Within the framework of entrepreneurship, this approach can be used to solve common issues. Anna is a homemaker, and I recently spoke with her to learn more about her challenges on a daily basis. Anna's main worries were budgeting for the home, meal preparation, and time management. She frequently struggled to strike a balance between these responsibilities, particularly when aiming to keep her family's lifestyle healthy. Her worries brought to light a chance to create a solution that would make her daily tasks easier. I began by determining her problems and then concentrated on developing a solution that would adequately meet her needs. I had an idea for smartphone software that could be used as a budget tracker, grocery list maker, and meal planner. Anna would save time and effort by using the app to create personalized meal plans and create a shopping list based on those meals. It would also assist her in keeping tabs on her expenses, guaranteeing that she adheres to the home budget. This innovation was created with Anna's particular needs in mind during the interview, making it both practical and easy to use. The ideas of design thinking served as the foundation for the idea's development. My first step in defining a clear problem was to empathize with Anna and comprehend her circumstances. I was able to come up with ideas and solutions that specifically addressed her problems thanks to this understanding. The idea behind the app is a reflection of Design Thinking's adaptive process, in which solutions are created using actual user feedback and then improved over time to better serve the needs of the target audience.
In conclusion, technopreneurs can develop solutions that are truly beneficial and relevant by utilizing design thinking, which is an effective approach. Through a user-centered approach and an emphasis on empathy, we may create solutions that effectively address practical issues. This is a useful way of thinking for anyone who wants to have a significant effect because it is not just for technology but can be used in many areas of life.

Don’t be fooled by its name, it’s a great movie: The 3 Idiots reflection
Tumblr media
Hi everyone! I’m back again for another blog. I sincerely apologize for not updating my blog lately. I got really busy at school. I got a free time now though.  Well anyways, so much for that. I hope you’ll enjoy reading my blog as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it. Have a great day!
Have you ever wondered why is it called “3 Idiots”? If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you would probably wonder why. Why 3 Idiots though? Spoiler alert! Rancho, Raju and Farhan are the “3 idiots” despite belonging to a prestigious university. The reason why they are called three idiots is because of doing silly stuffs and they are way different from other students. The almost 3-hour long movie is considered to be among the greatest Indian films ever made. The film had huge social impact on education systems, not just in India, but across the globe. So if you haven’t watched it yet, you’re missing out! So much for that, let’s get over with the introductions and let me explain why 3 idiots is a “must watch”. Here are some of my reflections after watching the movie.
1.“Life is a race, if you don’t run fast, you’ll get trampled” – Virus.
A famous quote from the movie, 3 idiots. Life itself is NOT a race. It is us, who make it feel like a competition. People around us tells us that we have to always come first. First in class, first in anything that we do. Which usually stems from childhood, where we often hear them say, “you have to be like this”. Which gives the child a mindset that he or she has to excel in order to feel acceptance or belongingness which eventually leads to constantly seeking for validation and approval, making it the only way to reinforce the child’s sense of value and worthiness.
The education system has gradually become only about “who performed the best” and not about “who were able to perform”. Making it look like we are in a constant state of comparison with our peers. Life isn’t a race, nor a competition. Each of us have our own pace. If you get trampled, it’s okay. Stand up, and continue doing things that gives you meaning. Success isn’t measured on how fast you finished or how fast you got on top. There’s always a right time for everything. You don’t wait for it, but you make it happen.
2. Make your passion your profession
This is also one of the most crucial thing I learned from the movie, maybe because I can somehow relate. Programming isn’t really my passion. Although I took BSIT program, my love for science will never vanish. In my case, I had to be practical. Yes, it is not my passion but I believe someday, this field that I have chosen will bring me success. Farhan wants to become a wildlife photographer but he studied engineering to fulfill his father’s wish. He was never happy about it, but his parents were. Rancho advised Farhan to go after his dreams. I saw how passionate Farhan was. But at the same time, he set aside his dreams just to make his parents happy, which makes him a really good son. His father thinks that there’s not that much money in photography, but he said it will make him happy. This is so true even in real life. Some people have all the riches in the world but they never find contentment. Some are not that rich, but they are happy and contented. Life isn’t just about making money, it’s also about being happy. Those two come together. Even if you don’t earn that much when you start doing your passion, eventually, success will come to you because you love what you’re doing, and you are good at doing it.
3. Aal izz well (All is well)
Most mentioned phrase in the movie, the song is also captivating. What do “All is well” mean? We are so focused in achieving our goals for the future, that sometimes, we forget to enjoy things we have at the present. The phrases, “All is well” teaches us that everything is going to be alright. When life goes out of control, just say, all is well. It may not directly solve the problem, but it may increase one’s courage to face it. Positivity has a great impact when dealing with problems we think we can’t solve.
4. The power of friendship
Your friend circle influences your actions. At first, I kind of hated rancho for being such a jerk and a rebel. I felt like he’s influencing Raju and Farhan to be like him. But as the movie goes on, I finally understood what Rancho is trying to say all along. He sees Raju and Farhan as his friends that he doesn’t want them to be eaten up by the poor education system and encourages them to stand up for themselves. I recalled that when Virus told Raju to write a letter to expel him to the school, he can’t do it because he thinks of this parents, his paralyzed father. He said he can’t do it but then Virus told him to put Rancho’s name instead. I felt really bad that I expected him to betray Rancho. I kind of doubted Raju that time but I was shocked to see that he chose to commit suicide instead. He really is a true friend and I’m glad he was safe and recovered eventually. Their friendship is one of a kind, I even think it’s more of like a family. The people we choose to hang out with ultimately influences our actions and our future. Choose your friends wisely.
5. Learning doesn’t end even after you graduate
Education doesn’t stop. People are constantly learning. Education does not only exist inside academic institutions, but also outside of that. Education is not about memorizing, it’s about learning. For me, Silencer or Chatur was really a great student. He was successful at the end right? But he was not that happy. He’s still consumed by the anger he has for Rancho years ago; he thinks that Rancho is not as successful as him. Sad reality, there are successful people that looks down on others. They think that they are on top, they think they are relevant. They have degree and all, but they don’t have the manners. Looking back, Chatur was mostly relying on memorizing stuffs rather than studying about it. I liked how Rancho and his friends taught him a lesson when he gave a speech wherein they changed some of the words to humiliate Chatur. I actually agreed on what they did even though I sometimes think it’s already too much but it was also Chatur’s fault for not giving any effort to research on his speech. You can still learn even you are already working. You learn different things from different people every day. Understand, apply and make a change.
6. Education is a right, not a privilege
Last but not the least, and also one of my favorite lesson. Education is not a privilege; it is a human right. I firmly believe that every person has their right to quality education without discrimination. Let’s recall when we found out the plot twist in 3 idiots. The Rancho we know is not the real Rancho. His real name was Phunsukh Wangdoo. He was a servant boy who loved learning. He agreed to take real Rancho’s name, give him the degree in exchange for attaining the education and the learning he wants. It amazes me how wangdoo (Rancho) doesn’t care about the degree, to him, it is just a title. He cares more about what he learned. He impersonated the real Rancho just to send himself to school. Then it revealed that wangdoo (Rancho) is a school teacher at Ladakh. Wherein children are motivated by love of knowledge, like how schools should be. In addition to being very funny and interesting movie, “3 Idiots” also prompts crucial issues on shortcomings of the educational system and the quest for pleasure and fulfillment,
That’s all! I hope you learned something and enjoyed my blog. It took me hours to finish it because I really want a detailed reflection. Thank you! Xoxo.

FINAL PITCHING: A DAY TO REMEMBER
Weekly Blog- May 24, 2024
"Great things never come from comfort zones." - Unknown
Tumblr media
Our first pitch experience was unforgettable, teaching us valuable lessons for the road ahead. The Game 8 activity was like a crash course in pitching, showing us how to explain our idea quickly and confidently.
The countdown made it feel real, like we were really pitching to important people. And when the panel asked questions afterward, it made us realize we needed to know our stuff inside and out.
Now, as we look ahead, we'll take what we've learned and use it to make our project even better. We're more confident and ready to tackle whatever challenges come our way. This first pitch was just the beginning of our journey, and we're excited to see where it takes us!

Unpacking Insulation: Lessons from Sustainable Design
Blog 4 - March 8, 2024
Tumblr media
Artist: Paykhan - Science & Vie Magazine 2023
As part of our Technopreneurship class, my team gave a progress report on our venture in developing an eco-friendly refrigerated fish storage box. While researching thermoelectric cooling and insulation materials, I gained some meaningful insights.
Exploring coconut husks made me reflect on how much ingenuity remains untapped in circular economy solutions. I was amazed by how this abundant agricultural byproduct could outperform conventional insulators while being renewable and biodegradable. I also got excited envisioning how TEC technology could enhance cold chain and food preservation in developing communities, and maybe simultaneously combating hunger, climate change, or proper waste disposal.
Beyond the technical aspects, this project is shifting how I approach design from a sustainability mindset. Instead of optimizing for narrow factors like cost or performance, I'm learning to evaluate a fuller lifecycle picture - materials sourcing, energy use, end-of-life, and social impact. True sustainability means creating ecosystems and thinking about regeneration over degeneration.
This experience illuminated the power of engineering to develop intelligent solutions that harmonize modern needs with environmental rejuvenation. I feel inspired to carry this consciousness forward, finding opportunities to beneficially merge technology and nature's wisdom. As I continue my studies, I hope to further explore biomimetic design principles that allow innovation to emulate net-positive, zero-waste systems. The path to a thriving future lies in realizing our complete interdependence.

I sat down with Clyde, a 19-year-old student at my university, eager to hear about his college experience. Right away, I could see a mix of excitement and worry in his eyes. When I asked him about the challenges he had encountered in adjusting to college life, he admitted, "Honestly, managing my time has been really hard. In high school, everything was laid out for me—classes, activities, and study time. Now, it’s all on me, and I often feel lost trying to fit it all in."
Clyde’s struggle with time management was affecting more than just his daily routine; it impacted his coursework as well. He shared, "Some classes are harder than I expected. And group projects can be a nightmare. Everyone has different ideas, and it’s hard to bring it all together, especially when I’m behind on other assignments." It was clear that his time issues were creating stress in multiple areas of his college life.
When I asked about making new friends, Clyde nodded. "Yeah, it’s hard to meet people in big classes. Everyone seems to have their own group already, and I feel like an outsider. It can be pretty lonely." This sense of isolation only added to his worries, so I inquired about his financial challenges. "Definitely," he replied. "Between tuition, rent, and daily expenses, it’s overwhelming. I work part-time, but balancing that with classes is tough. Sometimes I feel like I’m just trying to survive."
Clyde’s financial stress also affected his search for internships. "Yes! Finding internships is super competitive. I often don’t feel ready for interviews, and I’m not sure how to network. It’s like I have another job on top of everything else." Despite these challenges, Clyde shared some solutions he was exploring. "I’ve begun using a planner to help with time management. For my coursework, I’m thinking of forming study groups so we can help each other out. That might also help me make more friends."
He continued, "I’ve also been looking into budgeting apps to manage my money better. And I heard there are workshops on resume writing and interview skills—I think those would really help me feel more prepared for internships."
Clyde’s story is relatable for many college students. Time management is a significant challenge, and when it gets out of hand, it affects classes, social life, and job readiness. His experience shows that group work and large classes can make it hard to connect with others, leading to feelings of loneliness. Financial pressure is another major issue, as balancing work and school adds extra stress, making it difficult to fully enjoy college life. Budgeting tools and financial workshops could greatly benefit students like Clyde.
Finally, the challenge of preparing for careers highlights the need for accessible resources on campus, such as networking events and career workshops. These would help students feel more ready to tackle the job market. Clyde’s proactive approach—using planners, forming study groups, and attending workshops—demonstrates that while challenges are real, there are ways to manage them with the right support. His story reminds us that colleges should provide resources to help students navigate these common struggles.

FIRST WEEK OF BUSINESS INTERVIEWS
Last August 30, Jessa, Francen, Angel, and I, interviewed 5 business owners. Each of them has different businesses. Before we started the interview, we asked them for their permission to let us take a video for documentation purposes. Some of them agreed, but some of them told us not to take a video and just let us take a voice recording. We made some questions for them to answer based on all the business itself.
1. N JESS GENERAL MERCHANDISE
Tumblr media
Miss Carmela Barton owns N Jess General Merchandise, a hardware store located at Zone 12 Upper Carmen, Door 3 LACAR Bldg. Her business started in 2015. They were also selling wholesale products of soft drinks and beers before, but the business went down as one of their staff members failed to do his/her job. Moreover, before the N Jess General Merchandise established, they were only selling nail hardware. The money they made from selling these nails was the one they used to start this business. Also, with the help of her father, who was an OFW before. They built this business so that her father does not need to go abroad anymore. Miss Barton also said that this serves as a retirement plan for her father. Moreover, we asked them about the first process they made before creating this business.
Miss Barton said that the first thing they did was to find a place, then the location, and lastly, to find suppliers. They have an estimated total of 17 staff working for them, especially since their business requires manpower. Their business also deals with partner contractors, where contractors, engineers, etc. will ask for their supplies. Furthermore, they also encounter a downfall where the sales are not that high, but nevertheless they are still able to pay for things they need to pay.
Tumblr media
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. HAPPY SIP
Tumblr media
Happy Sip is owned by Ms. Rema Hasan and Ms. Merlyn Hasan, sisters who decided to start a business together. It is located in Zone 12, Upper Carmen, near the multicab terminal. This business, owned by the sisters, is a franchise store, with the main branch located in Manila. Happy Sip primarily focuses on selling milk tea, but the sisters decided to expand the menu, and now they also sell coffee and snacks like fries, siomai, and more. They started this business on March 5 of this year.
The business is solely managed by Ms. Rema and her mother, with no partnerships with other companies. Before Happy Sip started, Ms. Hasan's mother ran a business selling second-hand clothes (ukay-ukay), but sales declined. This decline prompted the Hasan sisters to create a separate business to generate additional income.
Regarding the process of starting the business, Ms. Rema explained that the first step they took was contacting the franchise. After receiving approval, they then made arrangements with the supplier for their products. However, Ms. Rema noted that one of the challenges they face is managing inventory, as they need to request supplies from Manila, which can take time to arrive.
Additionally, Ms. Rema mentioned that sales are not as high as they would like, which she anticipated because their products are not essential goods. She compared it to rice, a basic necessity that people need regularly.
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. AJ WATER REFILLING STATION
Tumblr media
The third one is the AJ Water Refilling Station, this business is owned by Mrs. Leonor Jamito and located at Zone 12-C UZLAI. The business started operating on June 28, 2024. Their business also has no partnerships with other companies and is just solely managed by them. There are only 3 people who are working in their store, which is their family member. We asked about how the business was going, and she told us that they needed to be patient because there are times when sales are high and also sometimes they're low.
Mrs. Jamito's reason as to why she created this business is because she wants to leave something for her children, and this is their business. She said that she wanted her children to have this business because we do not know how long we will still be in this world. Furthermore, Mrs. Jamito's first step before diving into this business is to save money because she knows that they need a large amount of capital to build this business.
Tumblr media
..............................................................................................................................
4. JASMINE GARDEN
Tumblr media
The fourth one is the Jasmine Garden, which is owned by Mrs. Amelita Dap-og. She started selling since 1992, up to this day. However, during that time she said that she was only selling a small amount of flowers or that there were not that many variations of the flowers she was selling. Her store is located in Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City. There were no partnerships involved from other companies; she and her family are solely managing the business. Additionally, there are 3 staff working on her business, which are just her family members, the husband, Alejandro Dap-og, and her son, Staline Dap-og.
Mrs. Dap-og is not just focusing on selling varieties of flowers; they also cater to landscaping. They joined a lot of floral displays, such as festivals, for example, this Higalaay Festival. They were invited from the LGU to display their florals in Gaston Park also for the beautification of the place. Moreover, they have participated in contests and won some prizes, specifically "Best in Flowering" and "Best in Bonsai Plant."  Furthermore, in order for them to have their business displayed, they are required to submit their business permit.
Tumblr media
================================================
5. AQUARIST FISH SHOP
Tumblr media
Our last stop is AQUARIST AQUARIUM FISHSHOP, owned by Mrs. Devenia Socorro M. Chua, located on Rizal Fernandez Streets, Brgy 1. The store was built in 2010, but the business has been operating since 1993. The owner manages the business herself, with no partnerships involved. There are three people working in the business: Mrs. Chua, her husband, and their son.
The business primarily sells different types of fish, although they have expanded to include other animals and pets. They also sell aquarium accessories and fish food. The business was created to generate extra income, and also because her husband has a passion for fish and enjoys keeping various kinds.
To start the business, they invested in setting up aquariums to house the fish. Mrs. Chua mentioned that their first step was to find a reliable supplier who could provide them with a steady supply of products over the long term.
