So I was wrong :(

For context, weather is a HUGE shift trigger for me, especially what we typically think of as springtime weather. If its rainy/overcast, temps in the 50s-70s, crisp air, and a strong breeze, it's pretty much guaranteed I'll have at the least a slight mental shift. Now where I live, the weather has been weirdly warm, with temps in the low 40's and nonstop rain, so I've been shifting rather frequently, which meditating on my hearthome.

Whenever think about what my hearthome could be, I'm instantly hit with kin memories of stony hills, dense pine forests, fish-filled wetlands, plunging cliffs into the gray ocean, herds of deer and warrens of rabbits in case I ever wanted red meat, and a constant damp chill in the air. Anytime I'm in nature with a similar vibe to that, its shift city baby.

Being the ecology nerd I am, I almost instantly assumed I lived somewhere along the intersection between a boreal forest (taiga), and tundra, and I was happy with that! I mean it checks all the boxes- cold, the right type of plants, big ol' mountains, sometimes wet, and with fish and large game aplenty! But the one thing I could never get around was how cold it actually got that far north.

I HATE snow. I really cant stand it, and I don't really have any kin memories it. I mean, how does an arctic dragon hate snow? I thought about how I also hate when it gets dark early in the winter, because it messes with my sleep schedule severely. Well, I guess that must mean I hibernate! If I have a diet and lifestyle similar to a brown bear, I probably have torpor like one too!

And I stuck with that thought process for months and months, until today. Like I said, I've been in shift city due to the weather, despite the fact that I almost never have weather-triggered shift when it's colder than 40, or snowy. I don't have any kin memories of either snow OR settling down for hibernation, hell, I don't even have kin memories of midnight sun.

So, after hours of research on the wikipedia page for ecoregions, I came to the conclusion that I'm not from a boreal forest/taiga, but probably a temperate broadleaf and mixed forest, the most similar ecoregion I can find being the Caledon conifer forests and the north Atlantic moist mixed forests.

Basically, where I lived was closest to the sparse, grassy, and mountainous forests, bogs, and moors of Ireland and Scotland!

I'm very happy about finding a new detail about my past life, but unfortunately it means I'm going to have to do a lot more meditation to make up for some of the assumptions I've made about my hibernation, by lifestyle, what foods I ate, and how I lived day-to-day. Despite looking and feeling similar, boreal forests and temperate broadleaf and mixed forests are VASTLY different environments, with vastly different adaptations.

Moral of the story: Don't be afraid to admit you're wrong about a kin memory, or that you interpreted the cause of a shift incorrectly, or any mistake you might have made in your own personal kin journey. It hurts a lot to know this environment I've put so much thought and love into wasn't actually my home, but I'm so much happier being closer to the truth.

Okay, new Crown Tundra info... well, "official" anyway. Tbh we already knew about the Pokemon returning because of the data mining from Isle of Armor. Actually there isn't much they showed off besides locations and maybe story stuff.

Highlights

Galarian Slowking revealed at last. Its info is available now but just to save you a trip:

Type: Poison/Psychic.

Ability: Curious Medicine: resets all status changes to allies

Signature move: Eerie Spell: psychic, dishes out damage and removes PP from the last move used by the opponent.

No word on how to evolve it yet, but my guess is another item like the one used to get G Slowbro.

Also it looks like you may have to undergo a mini game or some series of battles to get to the legendary Pokemon hidden away

It LOOKS as if we can choose our AI partners, but I could be wrong here. In which I can finally flip the bird to the trainers that keep bringing Solrock, Magikarp, and Clefairy.

The Galarian Star Tournament. We kind of already knew this but it looks like it's just a series of multi battles. I think the real draw will be getting to see interaction between certain trainers. This includes DLC trainers, but OF COURSE it's still locked by version for whatever reason.

Curious enough they mentioned this happening after the Crown Tundra. Tbh I think they just mean after the main story and becoming champion, but we'll find out eventually.

Oh, Go is planned to be connected to Home at some point. Looks like it's a one way trip, so be advised. Sending pokemon to Home will also activate the box to catch Meltan

Also we'll be getting Gmax Melmetal in Home. Finally.

Unfortunately they gave no date for it, just "before the end of the year". They rush the main games but Go? Nah take your time for very small updates 🙄

Release date: October 22nd. About 3 weeks sooner than what I expected.

I think the best part of the trailer is the music video by Bump of Chicken at the end. Blink and you'll miss about 20 frames. The animation quality is gorgeous, but in true Pokemon fashion it's just another nostalgia trip. It's a fun nostalgia trip but they always play at nostalgia. Idk, it just runs me the wrong way when they keep doing this like "yes okay we get it we grew up with pokemon, please stop trying to brainwash or emotionally manipulate us into buying your product."

But like I said, the music video is great. The song is great, and there's some neato touches to it. A really neat one is the 4 boys on a rail road track is a call back to the movie Stand By Me, which is also referenced in RGBY when you watch the tv before leaving home. I think I felt a bit bitter sweet when I saw Cheren and Bianca grow up from following Hilbert to following Nate instead (I know Cheren can reunite with them in Masters but it's not the same. BW3 when?). God though, the small transition from fighting Blue to Red was awesome. Also, I think the boy and girl's hats may be official hats from the game, too, particularly the boys' hats from FRLG and Sun and Moon, or at least take cues from them.

Wtf were Pikachu's and Eevee's proportions though? Pikachu had them Courage the Cowardly Dog hands.

Overall a cool music video and I wish it was the current anime. It made me feel like this was a glimpse at Pokemon if it were a traditional anime with slightly older protagonists.

Anyway, that's about it that came from the video. I think we know what kept them so long from getting us info now, lol. Tbh there wasn't really a lot of new info and that does concern me about CT's size and play life. I guess I have to be lenient again due to the virus but I sincerely hope there's more I'm not seeing here (and particularly want to know more about a couple other things datamined, but that's a spoiler).

But with that, we're still 200 short. Come on GF. Add the rest in you greedy bastards. Just do it. I want my Typhlosion and Samurott. Add the Megas too. I miss my Zard X and Mega Gengar. Literally every other modern Pokemon game has it other than Pokemon right now so hurry up.

I imagine we won't hear anything else from them until December or January. I predict in 2021 they'll throw in 2 more DLCs to buy themselves more time and to make room for their other releases.

Boatswain’s Call

In which I reread the episode and, despite how much I love him, will probably wind up dragging Peter Lukas.

Why is Peter drinking black coffee in a seedy bar? It does serve black coffee so he can’t be the only one, but still.

Even by those standards he was very pale, weirdly so for someone who apparently lived their life on the sea.

This could be a Spooky Lukas Thing, or it could be because Peter never comes out of his cabin.

His eyes only moved a fraction of an inch to focus on me, but it felt as though the movement had the weight of a heavy stone door. Like a tomb. Don’t know why that’s what popped into my head, but there you go. I asked if he was Peter Lukas, and he said, “Yes”. I’d gone blank on what to say next, and it was then that I noticed the silence. I looked around to see that the place was now completely empty.

Spooky! Also really funny once you know Peter, although it probably does feel like stone doors and tombs to have someone suddenly focus on you while connected to the Lonely.

He seems to drag them halfway into the Lonely, which might be because he doesn’t want this conversation overheard, or might just be that she startled him while he was having a quiet coffee and not paying attention to his surroundings.

He’s much less talkative than with Martin, but he always initiates social contact with Martin, so I think we see him there having actively prepared to be “on”.

Tadeas Dahl is very interesting. Presumably that’s a fake name, because Peter decided to be weird about names, but he’s someone who almost fades into the background of a “Lukas statement” despite doing 90% of the work in it. He’s the one who both carries and uses the Boatswain’s Call. Normally contact with an artefact for that length of time either messes someone up or converts them into an avatar eventually, but he appears to not threaten the Lukas monopoly on the Lonely, or at least he doesn’t automatically spook people the way Peter does.

It was like they were doing everything in their power not to think about each other. It took me less than a day of ignored hellos and grunted answers before I fell into line, becoming just as quiet as my crewmates.

This seems to be a reaction to what they’re about to do, but they don’t just avoid the new crew members who are likely to be sacrificed, but others too. Later someone says it “wasn’t an easy choice”, implying they may vote (rather than Peter choosing), meaning it’s possible any of them could be in danger even if it’s nearly always the new crew members.

The only person who spoke was Tadeas Dahl. The mate would walk among the crew, giving instructions and orders in a dozen different languages, as the crew scrambled to carry out his commands. He was just as composed as he had been when I met him, and it soon became clear that, if he had emotions, he kept a tight wrap on them.

He’s clearly a very useful person, since I am very sure Peter only speaks English. Not to mention that Peter doesn’t actually run the ship anyway. Tadeas seems to be the Martin of the Tundra, the one who actually knows how to do the job that Peter has officially. But it does make me wonder about his relationship with Peter -- Peter lumps him in with the crew as “loyal to my money” but Peter also lumps Simon -- who is visibly fond of him -- in with avatars who can’t be bothered to murder him. So I don’t necessarily take his word for it.

I didn’t see Captain Lukas at all that first week. I only knew he was onboard because every meal time the cooks would hand a tray of food to the mate, who’d take it up to the captain’s cabin.

See? Not doing his job.

Also, as @odetoviscera pointed out to me, Tadeas feeds Peter both physically and metaphysically.

Which made me think, because the only other place we see that relationship is Eugene making candles for Agnes. It’s clear you can feed an avatar on someone else’s work, but it’s very rare.

I’m hoping for Tadeas to turn up in season 5, tbh.

There was one crewmember who did catch my eye. He was a young guy, white and, from what I could tell, Scottish.

Does Peter specifically eat white people?? With a crew implied to be heavily multi-racial heading out from a port in Brazil, he’s somehow picked up two white people from the UK as potential snacks.

Then there’s the racial profiling of the Silence Tower Block.

If this is racism it’s a really weird form of it.

From a distance it looked fine, new paint shining in the sun, but looking closer I saw that it had rusted all the way through. Not just that, but checking out where the rod connected to the container, it became clear that they had rusted together.

Peter, WHY!?

Why on multiple levels at that.

First he’s travelling cargo routes with a full crew, it would take nearly no extra effort to ship cargo.

Second, he can take the time to have someone paint over it but not to get new containers? Or clean up the rust?

Is this just his aesthetic?

I like that the lifeboats are not the lumpy orange modern ones. First, those actually would be more awkward to get in and out of regularly. Second, they would definitely ruin the aesthetic.

The only time Peter turns up and it’s to get in the lifeboat with the rest of them. Is his presence actually necessary? Does he just want to be there? Is the Boatswain’s Call powerful enough it would actually be a bad idea for him to remain?

I have never heard a whistle sound like that. It was shrill, so high and piercing that I felt my hair stand on end, but it also seemed distant. Like I was hearing it from far, far away. I don’t know how long he blew that boatswain’s call for, but by the end, I realised we were surrounded by thick sea smoke. We should have far too far south for it, but it rolled and billowed around the lifeboat, obscuring the Tundra.

The Boatswain’s Call is really complete overkill for what it’s used for? It engulfs the ship in order to throw one person into the Lonely, something Peter can do on his own without disturbing people in the next office.

I suppose the spookiness and the fear it spreads among the crew are also ends in themselves.

No-one said a word, but I could have sworn a few of my shipmates were crying.

Peter says in his statement that his crew have no qualms about what they do. Which is either him being extremely unobservant or lying to himself (I doubt he can lie to Jon at that point) given that some of them are crying here.

I don’t know how he feels about it either. He seems to have no trouble throwing people into the Lonely, either physically or emotionally, when he’s working at the Archives. But here he seems to prefer to have as little to do with any of it as possible. He’s just sort of there while it happens.

Possibly he’s just lazy and/or depressed, because “not doing anything” seems to be Peter’s default state.

After that night, the atmosphere on board changed. People talked, and you’d occasionally hear actual laughter on board. Games were played, people drank, and there was this sense of relief to it all.

It might just be a relief once you’re not waiting to commit murder? It doesn’t seem like it’s a Lonely ship, though. The crew are probably lonely, isolated by what they do, but they only act unwilling to socialise while waiting for the ritual to happen.

I didn’t even think about my pay until it came through a couple of days later: twenty-five thousand pounds. For barely two weeks work. I don’t mind telling you, it was almost enough to tempt me back.

Does Peter just have infinite funds? No one in his family seems to care how he spends their money, and he never makes any.

Solus Shipping PLC, a company founded and majority owned by Nathaniel Lukas.

Did Nathaniel found a shipping company just so the family heirloom can get some use? Or does he actually ship things on other ships? Or is Peter not the only Lukas out there on a boat?

The Lukases funding the Magnus institute is also interesting, although this statement isn’t the first time we hear about it. A lot of their pull -- and a lot of what Peter is implied to use to carry out his deal with Martin -- is more to do with them funding other avatars than being dangerous to them. Both money and favours get traded a lot, and of course for Peter there’s gambling.

Even though the official crew manifest for the Tundra has remained the same for the last ten years.

Obviously the immediate implication here is that Peter doesn’t register people he’s going to eat as crew. But I also wonder whether ten years ago marks when he went back to sea after the Silence.

BACKSTORY & BASICS.

So Quivi is adopted - the only child of Kida & Milo , a baby when he first discovered Atlantis. Her biological parents died shortly after the events of the first movie , and Kida & Milo , unable to conceive a child of their own , didn’t hesitate to take her in.

So she was raised with love & care & all the traditional values taught to the children of Atlantis , while being taught by her father the U.S.’s influence.

So yes this makes Quivi multilingual like her mother but also she can read Atlantean like her father ( since if you remember in the first movie , none of the Atlanteans can read their own language , while Milo can. )

It’s also been a REALLY long time since I’ve watched either of the movies.

She also knows Morse Code - taught to her by Packard , since I’d think Packard would know it since she was the radio operator - and ASL - which I’ll explain why momentarily.

It’s also really important to note that Quivi is selectively mute. She doesn’t speak unless in situations or around people where she’s comfortable doing so , and primarily uses nonverbal methods of communication such as writing , sign , or Morse. I will always specify in rp which method she uses.

But !! Back to the backstory , she heard of her father’s adventures ( since again in Milo’s Return there’s like... a whole sequence in where they go on crazy adventures and stuff and I haven’t seen that movie in a longer time than I’ve seen the first one but yeah ) and wanted to experience them for herself. So she went on a few !! But the most notable one was when she was sixteen , venturing with her father and his comrades into the Siberian tundra.

This was fine , until a turn for the worse rolled around when they discovered Quivi was missing.

It was a month before they found her again ; wandering around and surviving with the training of an Atlantean warrior and hunter she was given as a child. But she was extremely exhausted from her time of surviving alone - although , she did like the the cold a little more than expected.

Quivi’s aesthetic has always been like. Snow and mountains. So I had to find a way to wriggle that in SKSKSKSKSKSKSK 

But also during the period of time she was in the tundra , she encountered Siberian hunters that she didn’t get along with and was on the run from them since she was an Atlantean and they hadn’t seen an Atlantean before so. Yeah. They were on her tail.

But yeah !! Tired from her journeys but a little scarred from survival , she went back to Atlantis and sort of . . . cut herself off from everyone else ?? She focused on her training , didn’t really want to go back into the outside world , and was paranoid she’d be hunted again like in Siberia.

UNTIL . . . coming to Auradon.

Okay I did this last time but I want to do it again bc I think it’s fun to share : Quivi is again an age-old character of mine but I want to share some inspirations since both for this group and in general she’s been developed and edited over the years ,

So most important fact is that Quivi is 6′4 without heels and a battle expert so jot that down

But for real she stands out in a crow both due to her height and her Atlantean tattoos - like her mother , one is on her face , but runs from her temple to her cheekbone. 

She’s an EXPERT in parkour and combat. Love that for her.

Buuuut the thing is , because she’s so . . . outwardly stoic and quiet and closes herself off , she’s a little intimidating to the people who don’t know her. So she SEEMED scary to everyone else in Atlantis , but in truth she’s actually a gentle giant.

Giant because again she’s 6′4.

A little hesitant to tell people about her experience in Siberia since it was again a little too much for her at her age. She’s surprised she even survived.

And for that she has this big cloak ( think Jon Snow ) that’s kind of like... her security blanket. Her comfort.

Also carries around a big sword for that reason and yeah I won’t like she looks like an Atlantean Jon Snow when she carries her cloak and the Sword around.

The influences are high. 

LOVES TO READ - she has a mountain of books in her dorm , all mainly fantasy or fiction , and sucks up information like a sponge just like her dad.

When u get close with her she’s ?? A really good ally to have ?? Again , gentle giant and extremely loyal and will care for you. That friend who has the bandaids always except instead of bandaids it’s the crystal around her neck.

Also yeah Quinvidia isn’t a real name but that’s her name in my MV and normally I’d change it to Quinn-Viktoria but... Quinvidia sounds Atlantean so YEEEEEEEE
