packing up your whole life and moving to paris was sort of on a whim. you really only realized it when you were on the plane, and you could spot the eiffel tower, the arc de triomphe, the notre dame. oh, you were going to have so much fun.
it wasn't hard to find your new home -after taking a taxi and two buses from the airport. you had booked a room from an old lady living in a haussmannian building. three rooms were already occupied, and a kitchen, common room, library and terrace were included in the low price of 250€ per month. you assumed that the old lady simply wanted company; it wasn't easy to find something that cheap, right in the heart of paris.
"madame dubois, so nice to meet you!" you greeted the lady rushing out of the building with a handshake, but she opted for a hug and a kiss on each cheek instead. how european.
"call me paulette, darling, please." paulette was pushing 70, tall, slim and stylish. she held a slim cigarette between fingers decorated with gold rings; she wore a long linen shirt over matching pants and ballerina shoes. very french, you thought, as you followed her inside.
as you stepped inside, you were greeted by high ceilings, ornate moldings, and large windows that allow an abundance of natural light to fill the rooms. the kitchen, located at the heart of the house, had marble countertops, state-of-the-art appliances, and custom-made sage-coloured cabinets. you could tell you would have a lot of fun in this kitchen. as you left the room, you noticed a wide selection of teas, a whole countertop in fact, dedicated to them. adjacent to the kitchen was the common room, knick-knacks and books filling every surface and empty corner. The baby-blue coloured room was adorned with plush beige and off-white furniture, intricate chandeliers, and a majestic fireplace, creating a cozy and sophisticated atmosphere. the library, opposite to the living room, housed an extensive collection of books, with floor-to-ceiling shelves that exuded an air of intellectual refinement. a cozy reading nook by the window invited you to spend many afternoons with a cup of coffee and your nose in a book.
"your room is on the first floor, along with two more. then there’s mine and one more on the third, and of course the terrace, that you’re free to use whenever.” you were admiring the paintings on the walls as paulette guided you to the first floor and to the second door on the left. you wondered who the other two rooms were occupied from, but you guessed you would find out soon.
paulette unlocked the white door and handed you the key. you entered into a mainly beige and lavender-coloured room, small but efficient; the boxes you had packed were sitting in front of the bed, arriving just before you. a double bed with two nightstands stood in the middle, a large wooden dresser on the side, with intricate golden details. two wicker sitting chairs by the window and an empty desk and small bookcase. paulette was showing you the bathroom, but you were too busy admiring the notre dame from your dusty window. despite it being half-burnt, it remained beautiful.
“my room is on the top floor to the right. anything you want, i’m just a knock away.”
“thank you. you said something about other people leaving here?”
“oh, yes! moblit lives on the third floor, he’s a nice and quiet guy. zoe lives right across from you, she’s a little feisty, i guess.”
“and next door?”
you swore paulette’s face dropped when you asked.
“oh, that would be levi, my nephew. he’s a bit…reserved.” was all paulette said about your mysterious neighbour before leaving you to unpack.
you fell on the bouncy mattress and let out a content sigh. the ceiling above you had a cracked lavender and lilac tapestry with golden swirls. the walls matched it perfectly, and the curtains, though faded, were a beige to match the wood of the furniture.
why unpack now? the sun was setting and a deep purple hue played on your stretched legs. you grabbed your purse and headed for the terrace, but your journey was cut short by a loud screech.
“levi, give me my key!”
“i don’t have your key, you lost it, you idiot.” the manly voice came from next door, you noticed. you decided to step out carefully.
a tall woman turned to look at you through round glasses.
“bonsoir! we didn’t know you were coming tonight!”
“hi! zoe, right? i’m y/n.” you took a few steps back when the brunette attacked you with a warm, tight hug.
“pleasure! are you heading for the terrace? that’s the first thing i did when i came here too.”
“seems like a cozy place for a cigarette.”
“you read my mind.” she turned to your other neighbour’s door again. “levi, sors de ta chambre!” come out of your room, your high school french classes came to your rescue.
as you waited for the mysterious neighbour, you inspected zoe. her rich, chocolate-brown hair cascading down her shoulders, framed her face and round golden glasses. she wore a flowing, forest green and brown maxi dress with intricate patterns that catch the eye. completing her ensemble, she adorned herself with eclectic accessories. a collection of beaded bracelets adorned her wrists, each one telling a story of its own. around her neck hung two pendants, a round blue evil eye, and a wooden symbol of piece. her ears were filled with gold studs and the picture ended with pink delicate feather-shaped earrings, whispering a hint of whimsy.
“hange, i just came home. what could you possibly-”
“we have a new neighbour, levi. remember?” zoe motioned at you with her head and a smile, obviously not caring that she was interrupting the man’s personal time.
“okay?”
wow. rude.
“so, you should come to the terrace for a smoke. maintenant.” now.
you expected the man to slam the door in her face, but he stepped back in to grab his jacket, and came back out.
levi stood at average height, with sleek black hair reaching his nape, a fresh undercut showing underneath and a few strands shaping his face and accentuating his piercing gray eyes. he was wearing a fitted maroon t-shirt and dark gray jeans, the look finishing with all black vans and the black leather jacket in his hand. you noticed a tattoo hiding under the sleeve of his shirt. interesting.
“hi, i’m y/n. it's so nice to-”
“levi. pleasure.”
“for fuck’s sake.”
“what? i said pleasure.”
"okay, sure. go make us some tea. y/n, how do you drink yours?" you looked between the pair. why did it feel like they were about to judge whatever you said next?
"oh, i don't really like..." you trailed off because levi had only rolled his eyes at you before storming down the stairs, mumbling in french. you followed zoe to the top floor. a pair of white french doors opened to a spacious terrace, with a set of wicker couches, cozy floor pillows and a tarp-covered bar. all kinds of flowers filled the corners and a vegetable garden took up most of the space on the left.
"you'll have to forgive levi. he's a bit..."
"uptight?" zoe snorted at your comment, and you had a feeling she agreed.
"passionate about tea. he's going to bring you a cup anyway. levi has a recipe for every kind of person, and he's certain he can make everyone like it."
you took out a pack of marlboro golds and offered one to zoe. she politely declined, opening a leather pocket of tobacco to roll her own cigarette.
"so, what brings you to paris?"
i had to run away from everything and everyone in my life.
"oh, it was just time for a change. i had enough money saved up, so i thought why not?" zoe lied down on the couch opposite you and nodded in acknowledgement. "what about you? have you lived here long?"
"levi and i were born and raised in lyon. we moved here around seven years ago, for college."
"what did you study?"
architecture.
"the plan was liberal arts, but i changed to architecture my second year."
bingo.
"i never finished college. i was a history and archaeology major, but it never really...spoke to me, you know?" you put the cigarette out on the clay ashtray on the table, "so, i attended a few barista and bartending seminars, and i actually fell in love with it."
"you don't say...have you got a job yet? i'm pretty sure the café down the street is looking for someone." you could faintly see the shop zoe was talking about in the distance.
"oh, i already found something nearby. i'm starting tomorrow."
"thats brilliant, i'll have to-oh, levi, you're here!" levi stepped out to the terrace, skillfully holding up a tray with three cups. he placed an intricate one in front of you; it was a midnight purple, square mug with engraved golden stars and constellations all over. you held the steaming mug and smiled gratefully at levi. you could smell raspberry, apple and-
"tell her what it is!" zoe jumped up and down excitedly, spilling some of the hot liquid on her dress and phone. "putain." she exclaimed and wiped her phone screen on the couch pillow.
"it's black tea with raspberry syrup, apple, lemon and rhubarb."
"excellent choice of a cup too." zoe poked his side with her elbow. "what's mine, shortie?"
"it's piss." you snorted into your cup, blowing some of the liquid on your lap. you hissed and wiped it away quickly, looking up at the bickering pair.
you brought the cup to your lips, tasting it carefully. you almost winced; it was the sourest tea imaginable, and if not for the syrup, it would be bitter too. you had to admit, you got used to it after a couple of sips, and you liked it enough to keep drinking.
"did levi magically change your opinion on tea?"
"this is really nice," you looked up at levi. his gray eyes didn't leave yours as he took a sip of his own tea, "but i'm a coffee person. sorry." you smiled softly.
"if you like bean water, sure." he scoffed.
"as opposed to leaf water?" you retorted.
why the fuck is he holding the cup like that? show-off.
zoe looked between the two of you, grinning. the comfortable silence was cut short by two message notifications. you and levi took your phones out at the same time.
-you have been added to Le Café Belle Époque’s group chat
-unknown number has been added to Le Café Belle Époque’s group chat
you and levi slowly looked up at each other.
“you’re the new barista?” he scoffed.
“you…work there too?” you looked at the members of the group chat. indeed, a picture of levi sat by an unsaved number on your phone. zoe peeked over levi’s shoulder to look at his texts.
"aha! this is very exciting, n'est-ce pas?"
you had seven different words in mind to describe this, and exciting was not one of them.
Tumblr media
waking up in your new bed, in your little room in the heart of paris, felt like waking up in a disney movie. birds were chirping outside of your window, and a few stray sunrays hit the wooden floor. with a stretch of your arms and a yawn, you looked around at the sea of boxes and suitcases. you really needed to unpack.
after searching for your summer clothes, you finally opted for a pair of white jean shorts, a flowy muted-olive shirt with thin straps and your favorite brown sandals, that strapped around your feet and ankles. you brushed your teeth and hair, and placed mascara on your eyelashes carefully. a warm-toned lipstick finished your look, and you started your voyage to the kitchen with a box in your hands.
damn you paris, with your steep staircases, you tried looking over the box to watch your step, but it was impossible.
"woah, let me help with that." you were met with a pair of dark brown eyes behind rectange glasses.
"thanks." you accepted the offer and walked behind the strange man.
"where are we heading?"
"kitchen."
the man finally set the box down on the round kitchen table, slapping the top of it.
"moblit berner. it's nice to meet you, y/n."
"how did you...?" you shook his hand with furrowed brows. moblit was wearing a well-pressed, tailored navy blue suit, a light blue dress shirt underneath and leather oxfords.
"zoe told me all about you last night. i apologize for the late introduction, but i came home after midnight." he watched as you took a polished red, vintage looking espresso machine out, placing it on the counter right by the outlet. "retro. does, uh, does levi know about the new addition to the kitchen?" moblit laughed awkwardly. you unrolled the cups you had wrapped in paper in your box and gave them a quick rinse, before setting them on top of the machine.
"i couldn't care less. paulette told me i can keep this here." you shrugged and filled the water tank. "want some coffee?"
"yes, please. the only drinks in this house all these years have been tea and alcohol." you pressed ground-up espresso in the group, and waited for the machine to warm up.
"what kind of coffee?"
"surprise me. i like it sweet, with a lot of milk. there's some almond milk in the fridge, so please use that." moblit sat down and lit a cigarette. you inspected levi's selection of syrups, powders and leaves.
"you don't think he'll mind, do you?" you held up a bottle of lavender syrup.
"it will be our little secret. better safe than sorry." you nodded and poured the syrup in the milk, frothing it while the espresso poured into a cup.
"so, where do you work, moblit?"
"i'm a reporter for libération, a news-"
"left-leaning newspaper, i know. i loved that piece on macron, the one comparing the marches to the french revolution?" you placed the cup in front of moblit, who accepted with a grateful smile.
"i wrote that one."
"of course! i thought your name sounded familiar." you chuckled and turned to make your own iced coffee.
"will we be seeing you at the café tonight?"
“i don’t know if i’m working a full shift yet. i’m only going to meet the managers and get an idea of the bar.”
“well, you’ve met one of them already.”
“levi’s a manager?” you rolled your eyes and sipped on your coffee.
“assistant. but he basically runs the place, he’s in charge of the menu, prices, schedule…” moblit grinned. “except for the new hires.”
“guess that’s why he was so surprised yesterday.”
“surprised is an understatement.”
“huh? wait, what did he say?” your eyebrow perked up. moblit just shook his head and got up to leave.
“thanks for the coffee, y/n. see you tonight!” defeated, you sat back on your chair. you slid it closer to the window and opened it wide. a warm breeze hit your face, and you smiled contently.
the rest of your day was spent unpacking, finding a space for every one of your knick-knacks and clutter. you managed to fit all of your books on the three shelves, finishing the image with some fairy lights hanging over them. most of your clothes fit in the dresser, but the rest were left in the suitcase. you really needed to buy some storage boxes soon.
it was now 2:30 in the afternoon, and after taking a warm shower, you desperately needed to eat. you sat on your bed, a towel wrapped around your hair, and pulled your phone out to search for a place to eat.
knock knock.
“come in.” you yelled out and looked behind your phone. zoe came in, looking around your room. she looked different; a tight bun sat at the bottom of her head and a classy white pantsuit hugged her body, before flaring down her calves.
“wow, nicely done. it took me two years to unpack when i got here…hey, what time do you leave for work?”
“i have to be there at six.”
“great! want to grab a bite with me? i’ll even throw in a little tour of our neighbourhood if you make me some coffee later.”
“deal.”
zoe brought you to a small, family owned restaurant cornering a main street. you watched as people walked, playing a guessing game of who was coming back from work, who was late for lunch, who had just had a fight with their partner. people-watching was a favourite of yours. it made you remember you weren’t alone in the world, that other people too had issues and feelings.
“do you eat meat, y/n? they make killer steaks here.”
“oh, i love a good steak.”
“excellent! how about i order for you?”
“yes, please.”
the waiter came to the table soon after, leaving a complimentary basket of warm bread and a butter spread.
“we’ll have two of your bavette à l’échalote, a portion of fries for the table and…two glasses of malbec please.” zoe handed the menu to the waiter and quickly attacked the bread.
“this is my favourite restaurant. it has been in the renard family for almost a century, and their recipes are practically unchanged. now, if you kindly look up, you will see my office on the top floor. i have a kicking view of the notre dame, which is…five minutes from here.” she pointed down the main road. you listened as she explained the secrets of the neighbourhood, the quirky owner of the office building, the drama between the two restaurants opposite each other.
you were so hungry when the dishes finally arrived in front of you, but you let hange do a demonstration of the dish.
“so, skirt steak. they cut it up in pieces so you can pour the sauce between them,” she spooned the golden, buttery sauce over your steak, “and i like to add it to the roasted vegetables too.” she poured the rest of it over the vegetables on the side. “and the rest you use to dip your fries!” she said excitedly, leaving the dip bowl next to the warm salted fries.
“bon appétit.” you raised the glass of red wine, clinking it with zoe’s.
after the delightful lunch, you leaned back on your chair, full and ready to go. you and zoe smoked two cigarettes each over one more glass of wine, before leaving for the café.
“are you nervous?”
“not really, i’ve done this too many times.”
“i would be. levi hates training new people.”
“good thing i don’t need training then.” you giggled and entered the café. a warm smell of cinnamon hit you, and the jazz music created a warm atmosphere around vintage furniture, a sleek dark blue bar with a marble top and the alcohol selection of your dreams.
“you’re late.” levi appeared behind the counter, startling you. you checked the clock on your phone.
“i’m 15 minutes early.”
“that’s still 5 minutes late.” he crossed his arms over his chest and stared back at you. “are you coming in here or what?”
you sighed and walked around the counter. the first thing you did was wash your hands thoroughly. levi appreciated that, but only gave a nod of approval as he walked you through the bar.
“you will be on evening shift for the time being, so here’s the old drinks menu. you’re free to change everything, except for the classic cocktails.”
“great! the last bar i was working, i experimented with tea-based cocktails, so i would like to add that. am i okay to stay after closing and use the bar for practice?”
“tea-based!” zoe exclaimed. you had almost forgotten she was there.
“tea-based.” levi repeated and you had a feeling he would explode then and there.
“ha! his eye is twitching! good one, y/n.”
“anyway, i’m adding that. i also want to make some additions to the coffee menu.” you looked over to the tea corner. “can i use the powders and syrups?”
“you’re going to add flowers and fruit in coffee?”
“is there a problem?” you didn’t even turn around to look at levi. instead, you took a pen and paper and noted down changes for the coffee menu.
“anyway. you can check the prices here, since it’s still the start. the waitresses will help you with anything else, so…”
“so?”
“show me what you got, rookie.” levi leaned back on the counter, with a challenging grin. rookie my ass, who does this guy think he is?
“ooh, ooh! make me an iced coffee, and use like, all the syrups you can.” zoe slammed her hand on the counter.
“you got it.” you prepared two shots of espresso. while that was pouring, you took a shaker, pouring coconut milk, a tablespoon of elderflower syrup and one of vanilla syrup over ice. you shook it around masterfully, making a show for zoe and levi. when the espresso was done, you mixed in a teaspoon of sugar. taking a tall glass, you filled it to the middle with ice and added the milk mixture. you poured the espresso over it, mixing it with a tall spoon carefully.
“whipped cream?” you asked and levi pointed at the fridge under the sink. you spotted a bowl of edible flowers and grabbed it as well. you placed a coaster in front of hange and the glass, spooning some of the handmade cream on top. you took the pinching tool and added three small flowers over the cream.
“et voilà!”
zoe clapped excitedly, accepting the long straw you handed her. she took a big sip, closing her eyes in delight.
“y/n, this is the best thing that has ever been in my mouth.” she wiggled around on the stool.
“i feel offended.” moblit appeared out of nowhere, wrapping his arms around zoe and leaving a kiss on her temple.
huh, i guess they’re dating, you thought.
the café wasn’t really busy, so you spent the next hour making different coffees and teas, for levi to ensure you know what you’re doing. zoe had insisted to drink all of them, so you wouldn’t have to throw them away.
“hange, you’ll spend a week in the toilet if you drink all of those.” levi tried taking the cups away, but zoe guarded them in front of her.
“the toilet happens to be my happy place. maybe i want to stay there for a week.” she made sure to drink a sip from all of them, just to spite levi.
“if you cleaned once in a while, it would be a safe place too.” you chuckled at levi’s remark.
a wave of customers rushed in, and the waiters sent order after order. it was a hectic hour and a half, but by nine o’clock, you had time to clean up the machine and your counter.
“okay, welcome to the team, i guess.” levi shoved a golden name tag and a black half-apron in your arms.
“wow, warm welcome.”
“watch it.” levi grabbed his stuff and walked around the bar. he turned to zoe. “i have to pick petra up from work, do you guys want to do something later?”
“just come back here! we can all try the new cocktail menu.” hange pushed him to the door before he could decline and came back to the bar.
“can i take these away now?” you pointed at the sea of cups and glasses in front of her.
“please do. i feel like i’m going to explode.”
“you really like to get on his nerves, don’t you?” you laughed as she nodded furiously.
“zoe has to make levi have a nervous breakdown at least once a week.” moblit commented. after everything was cleaned, you could finally calm down and work on the cocktail menu. you spotted a small blackboard sitting behind the fridge. you grabbed it and the packet of chalks and handed it to moblit.
“you look like you have nice handwriting. please write these names down for me.”
“what’s in it for me?”
“pick one and i’ll make it for you. on the house.” you grinned as moblit wrote the menu down. zoe made sure to include a few doodles of flowers and a smiley face before setting it on top of the bar, where everyone could spot it.
it was midnight when you had to cut zoe off alcohol and levi walked in, hand in hand with a petite brunette. the girl had a sleek bob with short bangs, and wore a silk pink dress that hugged her waist and thighs. an oversized brown leather jacket, a pink leather crossbody bag and brown combat boots finished the look. her makeup was the perfect mix of edgy and sweet, with a smoky eye, red cheeks and a nude lipstick. the girl greeted zoe with a hug, wincing when the strong smell of gin hit her.
“control your woman, moblit.” she joked and kissed both his cheeks before sitting down. levi took her jacket along with his and handed them to you to place behind the counter. “so, you’re y/n. a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. i’m petra.”
“pleasure.” you smiled as you served two drinks on the sidebar.
“see, she looks just fine.” levi rolled his eyes at the girl. “levi was under the impression that you would crack under the pressure and run off.”
“levi should know that i have been doing this for four years. i’m not that easy to crack.” you placed two coasters and two glasses of water in front of them.
“what are you having?”
“i want…to try one of those famous cocktails.” she pointed at the blackboard.
“famous?” you furrowed your brows.
“oh, levi talked my ear off for hours about them. you’ll have to forgive him. his old age won’t let him accept change and evolution.” she kissed his cheek after the comment, but he only sighed. “anyway, i’ll have the earl grey martini. amour?” she turned to levi, who barely looked at her.
“whiskey sour.”
“one chamomile whiskey sour coming up!”
“i said, whiskey sour.” zoe, moblit and petra were stuck looking between the two of you. you guessed levi wasn’t known for his temper. but, oh, you wanted to crack him so bad. it was so satisfying seeing his neck and ears turn red with annoyance.
“i heard you.” you hummed as you made the brunette’s cocktail in a dainty martini glass.
“so, make that.”
“but i already steeped the chamomile. it would be a waste of perfect tea.” you pouted as you poured the tea over ice. you flipped a short glass over and placed it on the bartop. a strainer on top, you poured the contents in, sliding it to the ravenette.
“just try it, cheri.”
levi brought the glass to his lips in the same stupid way he held onto that cup of tea yesterday. his gray piercing eyes never left yours, and you grinned when his expression fell. he liked it. the fucker liked it, because he took another, full sip, before sliding the glass back to you.
"i asked for a whiskey sour.” this was revenge because you didn’t like his stupid tea. you mumbled something he couldn’t hear over the music, as you made a new cocktail for him.
despite levi's eyes burning holes in you for what felt like hours, the night was going well. you got to know petra and moblit better, work was flowing nicely and a full jar of tips sat on the counter. guess people liked the new, not grumpy, bartender.

Beast Choices Chapter 2. Woman Tears
Betrayus and Muriel have passed a lot of time together in their department next to Yūu, as well their works were too hard for them, living them completely tired.
The Summer was starting and Muriel and Betrayus really needed vacations.
Muriel: God damnit... I'm so tired...
Betrayus: me too... Ugh...dude, don't think we need vacations?
Muriel: that's so obvious....
Betrayus: y-yeah.. but sadly we don't have any fucking money to pay for a trip....
Muriel: yeah...
Someone knocks the door.
Muriel: i'll go..
She opens the door and finds that it was the delivery man with a letter for Muriel.
Kevin: Are you the Ms Muriel Plizetxki?
Muriel: ahm yes.
Kevin: this is a letter for you, it was send by the Mr Marlos Plizetxki, *gives the letter to Muriel*.
Muriel: ... Thank you sir..*holds the letter tightly*...
Kevin: have a good day *he leaves*
Muriel:*closes the door*... Dad....
Betrayus: Hey Mury, what is it?.
Muriel: *Opens the letter and takes a million dollars from it*...It's Money... A lot of money.
Betrayus: Wow, really!? Let me see.
He takes a look to the letter without noticing Muriel's shocked expression.
Betrayus: Holy shit! a Million dollars!? This is enough to all a travel around the world or to buy a own house, oh this has a note too!, seriously..Who send this to you Muriel!?? *notices Muriel*
Uhm... Mury? Are you okay?...
Muriel; It's nothing.. my father send this money for me.

Muriel: it's just.... My Dad and me we had a hard relationship..
Betrayus: Ow... Ahm you want to talk about it?..
Muriel: it's okay.. at least We have money to our Cool Ass vacations!
She said it with a brilliant tone hiding something strange inside her, Betrayus knew that something was wrong with Muriel but he didn't wanted to force her to speak.
Betrayus: well, if you say so.. what place we can visit?
Muriel: i don't know...
Betrayus: hmm... I would like to visit a country with variety of weather.
Muriel: hmm... I don't know..
Betrayus: what about.. Pac Mexico? I heard in a paper about traveling and tourist places that Mexico has a lot of wonderful places to visit like the island of Dolls in Xochimilco, Mazamitla forest with their cabins, Cancun Beach, a More.
Muriel: Hmm? Mexico? that sounds interesting, that's it i want to go there
Betrayus: Me too ^^.
The next day, Betrayus and Muriel next to Yūu went to the airport to take the plane to Pac Mexico. The plane have arrived in Pac Guadalajara Jalisco Airport.

At ending their noodles they fell asleep.
2 days later have passed and This 3 had a lot of adventures with Roxy guiding them.
They both were having fun, but Betrayus still had the doubt about Muriel's behavior at the letter with money.
all the whole year Muriel was hearing all Betrayus's problems and insecurities and helping him to use them to grow as person and supported him in the bad and good moments, He knew it so well but..
"Who is hearing Muriel's Problems?".
Betrayus more than ever wanted to know better Muriel and help her as she did for him, all he knew was just her mother was dead, and her living family members were her father and Older sisters and that Muriel left her home.
Tuesday 9:00 pm

Whispered Jordan Pass Secrets
https://ja.ivisa.com/jordan-pass
If you're refused as an intending immigrant, this is a last decision which can't be appealed. Buried in the conditions and conditions, it says the pass is just valid for 2 weeks. Much like travel anywhere, it's very good practice to keep up an overall level of alertness.
It's also crucial to have in contact with your university in Canada to have a very clear idea about the documentation required there. Your chosen tour operator would take care of the whole course of action. The plans changed in a rush.
What You Should Do to Find Out About Jordan Pass Before You're Left Behind
A number of the games in this upcoming season are likely to come to the wire.  But Jordan slowly started to make shots despite lacking his normal speed. If you're a basketball player then you are in need of a shoe that will give some comfort whenever you make quick cuts or dodges in the game.
Much like any travel, check the weather prior to your trip so you can pack accordingly. Always insist drivers utilize the meter. From here to the border, you must take a taxi.
Bahrain is a lovely and very open country inside this region. So if it is possible, ditch Amman Airport and fly right to Aqaba using one of the many charter flights. There are lots of places to see in Bahrain which you should not lose out on the next trip.
Read the post below to figure out why it is you're mistaken. When the charge card payment doesn't go through, sometimes there isn't any message saying it was not accepted and you're just redirected to the homepage. As a consequence, he's got a great deal of stories about lots of the best players of that timeframe.
To begin with, the notion is straightforward. Learn a few important phrases in Arabic to create your stay more enjoyable. It doesn't include websites that are privately owned.
What Does Jordan Pass Mean?
If you leave Jordan by a normal flight, the Exit Tax is contained in your ticket so that you do not need to pay anything extra. It is great for visitors to save time and money when traveling to nearly 40 of the country's best-known sights. So the Jordan Pass is a good deal!
There isn't any true financial relationship between Jordan and Israel. After visiting a few different websites, you wind up spending a good deal less than if you opted to not obtain the Jordan Pass. Be certain to buy it before you leave for Jordan because, even though you can purchase it upon arrival, purchasing the pass in Jordan is not going to waive your visa fee.
The debut of the pass is the hottest in a succession of measures aimed toward reviving Jordan's ailing tourism business, which has suffered because of conflict in neighbouring Iraq and Syria. So for Pinoys who intend to stop by Jordan, here is a guide to process your visa. A visa is needed for most nationalities to stop by Jordan.
What Does Jordan Pass Mean?
Additionally, there are several poshest restaurants in Jordan that provide delectable food at a lower price. It would be unfair to not to chat about Georgia while discussing the all-natural magnificence of the planet. In winter, Jordan can find a small cold, so you're going to need jackets and layers.
Prior to starting, we've got something quite important to share with you. You have to offer a photograph. It's possible to discover more about this book at www.fastprofitsinhardtimes.com.
What Jordan Pass Is - and What it Is Not
There's pretty much no information online about what to do if you're not able to find a visa from the embassy. South African passport holders can get a visa upon arrival at no price tag. Although the visa is just one more step for Jordan-bound travelers, the application procedure is comparatively straightforward, and most visitors have the ability to get a visa upon arriving at the border.
Jordan pass contains the visa fee and entrance to Petra and other tourist places, therefore it really saves you a lot time and money. If you overstay your visa you're going to be fined. Booking visa online might be the shortest and fastest distance for everyone to touch an India visa.
Iqama holders of Saudi Arabia are expected to take the next documents with them which are expected to find a Jordan visa. As a visa applicant, you will want to establish that you satisfy all requirements to obtain the category of visa for which you're applying. Inside this instance you are going to be granted an absolutely free visa by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone.

DIE ÄRZTE @ Warsaw, Poland on 16.5.2019 (text/photo post)
I was there. It was my first DÄ concert. A crazy Finn who traveled all the way to Poland from Finland to see a German band live. I regret nothing! :D I’ve been a fan of this band since April 2009 so this was also basically a 10-years anniversary for me. Beware, this is gonna be a long post.
It’s crazy what just one band can make a person to do. I’m nearly 28 years old and I had never ever been to a plane before. I was convinced for years that the first plane I step into, will crash down. Well, I was to 4 different planes in 5 days and none of them crashed down. Before I had also been only to Sweden once and Estonia once, and now I can also add Poland to the list, and Latvia because of the Riga airport. The flights were terrifying, the first one was so terrifying I was worried how I’ll get anywhere from Riga as I no way can go into another plane ever again. But I still did, because we needed to get to Poland. And I’m glad I did, cos the second flight was not so bad and the two flights back home were even less bad. I’m still not a fan of planes or flying, but I guess I’ll be able to do that again if needed.
Tumblr media
I didn’t really see the city, even tho we went there on Tuesday and left on Saturday, we still didn’t get to the city. But it didn’t and still doesn’t bother me, because my main thing WAS Die Ärzte and all my focus went on that. The weather was awful there, just raining 24/7 but on Wednesday we still decided to walk to the venue to make sure we know how to get there the next day.
Tumblr media
There it was!!! And we just walked around the streets in this area, just for fun and to observe this part of the city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Farin wouldn’t fit to walk under that branch!!!” was what my brother said when we saw this tree while walking :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we were just walking around while it was raining, visiting food stores (and always a different one as we succeeded at being embarrassing in every previous one), one “cosmetics” store where we found an older man who knew a bit of Finnish but thought at first that we were Hungarians :D That was interesting because the languages ARE language relatives but still I cannot understand other ugric languages; but apparently they do sound similar for the ears of people who don’t speak these ugric languages as their native language.
On Thursday I woke up basically in panic. My brother had forgotten to turn off his alarm clock and it went off at 7am which woke me up. I was covered in sweat, hungry, thirsty and my stomach felt awful and I was afraid of having a diarrhea finally from the water, but apparently it was just my normal “stress/panic stomach” but I was not able to fall asleep anymore. I felt like throwing up and I was in full panic mode basically and that’s when I wrote the panic-post about the gig here too. We still managed to get ourselves out of the building after 13 o’Clock and walked to the venue, where I met several awesome people (all German of course, I feel like we were probably the only people there speaking English [and Finnish] :DD). We waited in the line for hours and at least I had a blast. I was bit scared of it at first because of my neurotic nature but it went better than excepted and I didn’t run into single annoying person there. And I got a tour t-shirt which is my treasure now and I’ll protect it at all costs :DDD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gig itself was so awesome. Already in the beginning the air felt very bad tho and I was sweating like what, at the times I already wished for the gig to be over so I could get outside where it’s good air and not so hot, but then something in my head just said “WHAT are you wishing for???????” as in no way I wanted that gig to ever end either, you know :D Soon I got over that and once the gig really started, I was just enjoying what I saw so much I didn’t feel nor notice anything else. I’m very short but I was lucky to not have 5000m tall people in front of my the whole time. Just once there was a guy as wide as he was tall too and because of him at the times I only saw glimbse of Farin’s head, but most of the time I saw pretty well at the stage and I was able to see the whole band with my own eyes :D I always film at concerts because I also get to see the concert from a better angle when my hands are 50cm above my head. But still there’s always people who block the view even from the camera, so you can imagine how my point of view is usually backs of heads and bit of the band too.
Tumblr media
Here is the only photo of the concert itself as I filmed everything with my camera but I just needed to have at least one photo to my phone too, and this was it. It looks as if we were really far away but it sure did not feel like that. It’s the wide angle of my phone making that look like that, but I swear I could see Farin’s facial expressions and everything so clearly even tho we didn’t even stand in the front row. I’ll be making another post about the videos, but just wanted to keep this as a small “travel blog post” and also talk about the gig a bit, as I was requested by someone to do so :)
So, the gig. What can I say? It was awesome :D I was so nervous and in panic in the morning I thought I’ll die, but it was all gone when we got into the club. Usually the feelings also hit me after the concert when I’m back at the place I’m staying overnight, but not this time. I was so full of addrenaline and endorphines (even tho it doesn’t show as I don’t really move, I just stand still and watch the concert) that I was just smiling and being hyped the whole time, constantly just thinking and remembering the concert, watching video clips from my camera and I couldn’t sleep until it was like 4-5 in the morning. And same continued the next day. It was so incredible feeling because normally I ALWAYS have a nervous breakdown after concerts but this one seemed to do the opposite and I was feeling just better than ever and it kinda returned my “faith” in my concert visits because I often have felt like dying at gigs and I always ask myself why I do this, when it feels so bad and good at the same time, and yet I always go to gigs to feel like dying. This time I felt like I was alive and not dying at all. Maybe I was feeling like dying enough because of the planes and the gig was much more safer experience as it was not my first gig, even tho it was my first DÄ gig :D And even in a different country! With people who were not fellow Finns! I still can’t believe it how good it felt because I have NEVER felt so good after a concert! I never had the nervous breakdown after this gig and I have had it after every other gig I’ve ever been to (okay my list only has 6 of them so far, and the first gig I was to was in 2007), so this kinda gives me hope that maybe I’m starting to get used to the feels and maybe I’ll not have so strong nervous breakdowns in the future either. Who knows.
And the setlist was great. So many awesome songs and I can’t believe I’ve now heard some of my fave songs live! And I still can’t get over “Klaus, Peter, Willi und Petra” :D Felt so special to be in Warsaw as they played it live for the first time since 1985 and that song is good! :D

Friday was pretty much a day when we just slept. Or tried to sleep. I was up again too early, I just cannot sleep in in foreign places. And I felt like staying at the flat, not going out nor speaking to anyone. I was so tired of translating Polish with Google Translator offline when I don’t speak a word of polish, so tired at trying to talk English with Polish people who don’t speak much English and just trying to make sense of everything. I survive with English but it’s just incredibly hard to think and speak in English and at the same time try to pronounce well and come up with phrases that don’t sound like I have never studied English in my life. It’s just so difficult and I think the problem isn’t my English but just my social skills and overall personality because I cannot speak even proper Finnish when in social situations as I get nervous and forget how even my own mothertongue works. We still tried, but didn’t get to the city as first it was raining and thundering, next ticket vendor did not work, second ticket vendor had a broken paper money part and I didn’t understand how the card works; and didn’t want to go into a bus if not understanding how the ticket vendors there work either so we decided to walk to this shopping mall 5km away instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We spent some time in the shopping mall, buying something too and then left before the closing time. This time I could get a ticket vendor working and we traveled back to our place by busses. I wish I would have learnt to use the tickets before Friday evening as we had to leave from Poland the next morning pretty early. But at least I know how to use them when we visit Warsaw again one day...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next morning we took a taxi to the airport and started our journey back home. We were finally at home at 23.00 Finland time. Warsaw was great, Die Ärzte was am (is!) amazing and I’m gonna keep remembering this trip for a long time! And if it’s up to me, this can’t be my last DÄ concert! I need to see them again one day!!! :D
Tumblr media
Good bye, Warsaw!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aaaaaaand back in Finland. What an experience this whole trip was! Thank you Warsaw, Die Ärzte and all the people I met at the gig!

Today we toured Petra with a local guide who was very knowledgeable about the area. The hike through the canyon is rich with history (as depicted on the carved walls). Petra is accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq. It contains tombs & temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs (the Rose City).
Petra is a famous archeological site in Jordan’s southwestern desert dating to approx 300BC. It was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom.
Our experience in the Middle East has been overflowing with culture, delicious food , aromatic spices, interesting people, and more.
One side note. We’ve had some crazy taxi rides in our lives (Paris, Rome, Spain, Etc), however, Jordan is a new level of sheer “passenger fear”. We had a driver (and he was exceptional & skilled), who managed to get us safely to Petra & back (each direction over 3 hours). The roads are in poor condition and in need of repair (little $$ for infrastructure). The rules are crazy (constant passing on curves...lots of trucks.. many times we passed with cars coming towards us as we went straight down the middle...the cars on both sides make room if they know you are there😬)....the only solution was to close our eyes! Good news...we made it safely to the airport 😬 we are a zillion hours early (that’s ok as we survived the drive)...we have made a little “home” in the corner of the airport and we fly out 2:30am (with long layover in Frankfurt)...then...home sweet home!❤️ ❤️We’ve had a great time but we miss our family and friends...time to come home!!🏠

Whale Watching
Modern AU — 3349 Words
Based on this post
It wouldn’t have been worth it to cancel the honeymoon reservations, is what Levi had told Hanji when he asked her to come with him to Puget Sound. It had been three months since his fiancée called off the marriage, and Hanji still wasn’t completely sure if he had healed from the hurt. She’d spent the past weeks occupying his time, watching him endure her company, and making sure he didn’t dissolve from malnutrition and neglect. So Hanji had been everything short of surprised when he’d revealed that he hadn’t cancelled the reservations for his honeymoon.
“I’ll pay for the extra room,” Levi offered, not even looking up from his phone on the subway. “My treat.” She could tell, despite his apparent indifference, that this was hard for him to ask her. After his fiancée got cold feet—months before the wedding, but also months after all the reservations had been made—Levi seemed to be filled with this unshakeable sense of doubt. She could see it in the way he phrased questions, or in the ways he reacted when she went to his apartment with Erwin (uninvited). She had expected it to make him only perhaps slightly more irritable, more inclined to flick her or scowl at Erwin, but somehow, he had almost become fragile.
“Give it time,” Erwin had said when the two of them were sitting at their couch. “He hasn’t dated a lot of people before, so this was a lot for him. It’ll probably be a while before he can date someone again.”
Hanji had nodded. Sometimes she forgot that Erwin had known Levi longer. “Our angry little baby got his heart broken,” Hanji sighed, taking a sip from her glass of wine. Sitting there, her legs on Erwin’s lap, the tv playing an episode of Westworld, Hanji wondered if this was what it had been like with Levi and his girlfriend. They hadn’t seen much of her, in fact, when Levi had started dating her, they didn’t see much of him either. It was almost as if by her coming into his life, he had been erased from theirs. But as much as it had bothered Hanji, she couldn’t find it in herself to intervene, to feel anything but happiness for their friend when he casually told them that he was going to get married and if Erwin could be his best man and Hanji there for support.
“Did he love her?” Hanji had asked.
Erwin looked over at her. “Maybe.”
Now, on the subway ride from Chelsea, Hanji listened to Levi finally ask something of her—ask for help, for the first time since the wedding had been cancelled, and quite possibly the first time ever. For once, despite the apparent difficulty in asking, she could tell that he was certain about asking this.
“I thought we’d need a wedding before a honeymoon,” Hanji said, smiling. “And of course I’d need to tell Erwin.”
“I tried to just ask one thing, Shitty Glasses.” Levi rolled his eyes, muttering under his breath, only to be smothered by Hanji’s overwhelming hug.
Stepping in to the entrance of the cottage inn, having hauled their luggages out of the taxi from the Seattle airport after their six hour flight from New York, Hanji began to wonder if this had been a bad idea. Levi looked almost immediately vexed when they entered the place, quickly hiding it behind his apathetic mask, but she hadn’t missed what was probably him thinking about his ex-girlfriend.
“So rustic,” Hanji cooed, admiring the memorabilia hanging around the walls of the cottage. “I always thought you were a city slicker,” Hanji added, laughing at his scowl. “Nothing like your style.”
“She liked whales,” Levi said softly, and for a second, Hanji wished, for not the first time in her life, to have more of a filter on what she said. When Hanji looked over at him though, she didn’t find the vaguely hurt expression that marred his face when he thought of her anymore. And stepping up to the desk to check-in, Hanji knew it had been the right choice to come here, and that Levi had already begun the slow process of healing.
As Levi went up to handle the reservations, Hanji settled herself into one of the stiff looking armchairs, gazing out at the water through the windows. She was surprised when she thought about how little she had really known about Levi’s girlfriend. She never would’ve guessed that this was her perfect honeymoon spot. Glancing back at Levi, Hanji nearly fell out of her chair.
He was talking. To the pretty strawberry blonde receptionist. And not being a total dick. He was even making her smile, genuinely smile, and if she listened closely… it almost sounded like he was flirting. Hanji resisted the urge to immediately stand up and tackle him from excitement, and instead, she whipped out her phone, furiously texting Erwin about the first woman he was talking to in months.
“You were eyeing the receptionist,” Hanji whispered in excitement, leaping up from her chair once he had pulled away from the desk, holding the keys and the ghost of a smile gracing his lips. She glanced back at Petra, the receptionist, only to receive a warm smile. “You were totally looking at her, that receptionist lady—
“—daughter of the innkeeper,” Levi corrected.
“Whatever, but you were totally staring into those gorgeous, hazel eyes of hers.”
“Fuck off,” Levi replied back curtly, rolling his eyes. He started up the stairs, and when the two of them got to their respective rooms, he flipped the bird at her just to reaffirm his annoyance. But Hanji could tell that he was lacking his usual sting.
“No offense,” Petra said, taking a seat next from him on the deck, overlooking the water. “But Puget Sound? For a honeymoon?”
“How’d you know?” Levi asked, glancing over at her.
“Hanji told me,” she replied back, folding her shoeless feet under herself.
Levi had learned not to feel defensive or pitiful anymore when people found out that he’d almost been left waiting at the altar. He was surprised by the lack of pity tingeing Petra’s voice and he decided to humor her. “Well what,” Levi said with a sigh, staring blankly back at her. “You disturb my peaceful dusk viewing of the water and you don’t appreciate our business?”
She laughed lightly, and he was almost surprised that his curtness didn’t send her running off. “Something about you sitting here just looked so sad,” Petra poked, grinning at him. “I couldn’t just watch you sit here alone like you’re some ninety year old woman remembering her glory days.”
Levi listened to her laugh, and he discovered it was something he liked making her do. Petra smiled back at him again. “Don’t be stupid. I just meant, don’t people usually… I don’t know. Go to Paris? Or Rome? Or Hawaii?”
“I get it,” he rolled his eyes. “Unconventional.”
Petra let out an mm-hm, and went back to her tea, enjoying the scowl that had graced his face in annoyance. It was almost sort of attractive, the way the deeply set lines complemented his face.
“Why didn’t you get married,” Petra asked, staring back at him, trying to gauge his reaction. From what Hanji had told her the other night, it had seemed like a pretty rough time, but she couldn’t help herself from asking. Something about him, something about the way she was drawn to him, made her need to ask.
“I think the way she put it was that,” Levi began, talking with surprisingly little to no resentment, “Was that I ‘was too much a part of the urban machine that had swept her up and stalled her from doing what she really wanted to do.’”
“Harsh,” Petra said, visibly wincing.
“Yeah, well, she kind of was too.” Levi was surprised himself that he’d openly admitted that, and thinking back on it, he recalled all the times he had gone to Erwin, on the verge of revealing the violent verbal fights that went on in their apartment after dinners and in the mornings when they woke up. It felt relieving to finally hear the words come out of his mouth. He knew Hanji, as annoying as she was, would’ve been proud to have heard him talk about it.
“And when you need marriage counseling before you get married,” Levi added more softly, “You realize that maybe things aren’t going to work out.”
He turned towards her, caught by the way she stared at him with something he couldn’t quite make out, and he wondered what it was about her that had immediately drawn him to her.
“It wasn’t meant to be,” he added finally, swallowing thickly, quickly turning his face back towards the water and the horizon in front of them.
“Yeah.” Petra replied back, looking ahead.
One week in to their three week stay, Levi had befriended the bright girl who worked at the inn. A few years out of college, after abandoning her job as a copyeditor at a publishing house in Portland, she’d come back North to stay and work with her father at his inn as he got older.
“I dated the guy who used to come and bring packages here,” she admitted to Levi over breakfast one morning. “Pickings get to be kind of slim around here.” She smiled, as if recalling the memory fondly, and she sipped from her tea.
Petra had made it a habit of sitting with Levi while he took breakfast. He always seemed to time out when he would roll out of bed and stumble into the dining room for breakfast. Either long before or right after the morning rush, when most of the cold nipped tourists would settle in to have eggs benedict and some toast, hunched over their cups of hot coffee. He would come down at a time just convenient enough so that Petra wouldn’t have to give an extra hand anywhere else in the inn so that she could sit across from him, and relish in a warm cup of tea on a brisk February morning.
Guests came in and out of the inn, as was expected. Students, sometimes, from Seattle, who would come for the weekend. Elderly couples. But Levi and Hanji were stuck at the inn longer than anyone else because of the long honeymoon reservations (the honeymoon part which he’d told the inn would no longer be happening).
“It’s all part of the job,” Petra said, smiling. “We don’t always get a lot of young people around my age, so, it suck sometimes. But old people, young people, families—they’re always fun.”
“Count me as a friend around your age then, Ral?” Levi asked, raising a brow over his breakfast plate.
“In the same way that I would count my grandmother a friend,” Petra replied cheekily.
“Tch,” Levi scoffed. “You wish you had a grandmother as cool as me.”
Petra laughed, and Levi watched the way her smile transformed her entire face, making it even brighter than usual. He got distracted by her expression of pure joy, he didn’t notice the stocky guys who had come up by their table. Petra talked with them, acting just as friendly and welcoming with them as she was with Levi, and he felt a gnawing sense of annoyance the longer the conversation went on. She chatted, flirting occasionally—or maybe that’s just how she always was—but he could tell she had charmed the two guys and it made him want to do something stupid when they finally walked away.
“Finally some young people around your age?” Levi asked mockingly, repeating her words from before.
“You’re just upset that I’m getting more attention,” Petra said, grinning wickedly as she sipped from her mug. Levi rolled his eyes, refusing to admit that maybe he was jealous that those guys had come up to them and flirted with Petra.
“Be quiet,” he shot back, his tone lacking any of the usual venom he reserved for Hanji and Erwin.
“Make me.”
Levi glanced back at her, wondering how livid she would be if he kissed her. But instead, he rolled his eyes, running his hand through his hair. “I’m a paying guest at this establishment,” Levi responded back. “I’d like not to be bothered during my breakfast, lest I complain to the innkeeper,” then, pointedly Levi added, “Your boss.”
“Oh my god you’re such a prick,” Petra tried to hide her smile, leaning towards him from across the table. “Maybe you really are like an old person. Should I make you oatmeal instead? With peaches?”
“Are you trying to berate oatmeal?”
Petra stopped short of a reply when she spotted Hanji entering the room. Waving happily at her, inviting her over to their table, Petra smiled back at Levi, almost laughing when she noticed his alarmingly vexed expression. “I think these tables are for paying guests of this establishment only,” Petra grinned, enjoying the way he looked as if he was on the verge of responding with some dry sarcasm. “I better get going.”
She smiled and greeted Hanji as she stood up, offering her her seat, and walked out of the dining room towards the beach outside, Levi’s eyes fixed on her the whole time.
“You know,” Hanji said, punching him in the shoulder. “Puget Sound isn’t the only view here.” She let out a low whistle, and Levi resisted the urge to throw a plate at Hanji. So instead, he kicked her under the table.
“Wake up, wake up, wake up!”
Levi snarled into his pillow, wondering what was causing the commotion outside his room, and what could possibly merit getting woken up at the crack of dawn. He heard what sounded like Hanji screaming from the room connected to his, and he knew that she, just like him, was pissed.
Throwing the covers off of the bed, he slipped his sneakers on and went out into the hallway, milling around with the other twenty or so guests rooming at the resort on the coast of the sound.
When Levi got to the dock off the inn’s beach, he saw Petra standing alone, watching the water intently. Under his sleepy gaze and muddied thoughts, he was half tempted to go over to her and wrap his arms around her waist as a greeting. She turned around, her hair pulled up in a bun, a jacket thrown hastily over her shirt and sweatpants, and when she spotted him, she grinned madly.
“Come here!” She called out, bounding over to him and pulling him by the arm to the dock, still hopping around. “I can’t believe it!” Petra stomped her feet into the dock, clapping wildly, and Levi failed to understand where all of this energy so early in the morning could be coming from.
“What.” Levi asked, pulling the drawstrings to his sweatshirt’s hood tighter, hoping maybe that it would smother him and passing out would give him an excuse to go back to his room.
“Just,” Petra could hardly say any words, and as the other guests surrounded them on the narrow dock, she simply pointed out towards the water. “Just, look.”
Her voice dropped to a whisper, and in a brief, still moment of silence, the air was broken by the cresting sound of water and crisp droplets hitting the surface. And Levi watched as three whales broke out of the placid surface of the water, the sound breaking the early morning stillness, and crashing back into the water, as if having announced the beginning of the day and doing away with the peace of the dawn.
“Whales, Levi.” she whispered, wrapping her hands tighter around his upper arm. Levi watched in amazement at the place where the whales had just been, none of the guests talking as the group was collectively filled with awe.
“Whales,” he repeated, feeling the warmth from her body radiate to him.
“They’ve never been this close to the docks,” she whispered, her excitement mingled with awe.
“It’s incredible,” she added, letting out a soft, breathy laugh that formed a white cloud in the brisk morning air. And when Levi looked down at Petra, following her line of sight back to the water where she stared with admiration and joy, he found himself placing his hand on the small of her back and pulling him closer to him.
“Yeah,” he echoed. “incredible.”
They sat on the beach together later that night, watching the way the moon reflected in the water, white rippling stripes. Petra leaned against his shoulder, then, as if changing her mind, she pulled quickly away. He gazed at her lazily as she settled into his lap, with her legs on either side of his body. She leaned into him, her lips brushing against the skin of his neck, and he held her against her, hugging her close. He breathed in the scent of her hair—clean, lemons—and the fresh air of the sound. He was warm, he kept her from feeling cold, and she relished in how firm and sturdy he was, like she was safe from the elements in his arms.
She pulled back so that she could face him, staring at his sharp features. She brushed her button nose against his, her lips ghosting against his, and she closed her eyes when she felt him lean forward and part her lips with his own, soft. Wrapped around him, he held her, and she let herself be held.
“Third wheeling,” Hanji said, rolling her suitcase through the sitting area on the first floor. “And here I was,” she said, turning and smiling at the sight of Levi and Petra, “thinking I was going to be the replacement on a honeymoon. But I guess honeymoons are a sham.”
Levi held Petra closely to him, his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her against him so that there was no space between them. She buried her face into his chest and shoulder, taking in his scent, trying not to forget him.
“You have my number,” Levi started quietly, speaking against the shell of her ear. But Petra shook her head softly, not removing her face from his sweater, and he understood what she was trying to say. They couldn’t just keep dating while she was in Puget Sound and he was in New York.
But he wanted to so badly. He couldn’t remember the last time he had fallen so quickly, heads over heels, for anyone. So he tried to pull her even closer, trying to remember everything about her.
“Then just come to New York,” he whispered through her hair.
“Or you could come watch the whales with me in the mornings,” Petra whispered against his chest.
He brought his hand up to cradle her head, running his fingers through the strands of her golden hair. “Stay with me,” he whispered again, trying to insist. Petra pulled away, looking up to smile at him, to hold his face in her hands and smile at him.
“I want to more than the world.” She ran her thumb across his cheek, leaning in to kiss him under his jaw, keeping him close.
“Then call me,” he whispered, his gaze soft and full of something Petra couldn’t quite describe, or was hesitant to name. She nodded, feeling the soft press of his forehead against her own.
“Okay.”

Heading to the Dead Sea...lucky we’re not dead...

First glimpse of Israel...from Jordan height of land.
Heading to the Dead Sea
We thought we had that covered...just a short drive from Aqaba to the north end of the Dead Sea. There we would take a look at that oddity (400 m below sea level). Stay overnight and the next day...over the border to Israel. But of course, 5 hours later we arrive. How did that happen? Well, I’m using that new app — maps.me. It is a wonderful little app that works like google maps but offline. But we’re not too good at operating it as yet. So we set the route but didn’t press start, so it was showing where we were going rather than where we should go. So we ended up on this little road heading out of Wadi Musa, past Little Petra (who knew) and the road got smaller, and twister, and then smaller, and we were climbing up and up and up. And the road got smaller and narrower. An occasional donkey cart. Bedouin settlement. Then nothing. Just that narrow, serpentine road. We eventually came to the height of land. What a view. I think it was our first sighting of Israel. Fabulous. Then we had to come down from that height of land. I closed my eyes.
We came along the Western Jordanian border. There were a lot of very poor people living along this border. Looked like market gardening was the main industry. Until we got to the potash mines at the south end of the Dead Sea. This whole area was poor and extremely ugly. People were living in shacks that used some sort of poly to keep out the wind. This was in great contrast to the beautiful farms in the Jordan Valley. Towns were as poor as anything we ever saw in Africa. Even when we got to what the map said was a resort area we were taken aback by the lack of resort infrastructure. There didn’t seem to be any resorts that were close to the sea. We can see Israel across the sea. This land is so poor that we can’t understand why anyone is fighting over it. Lots of times we’ve said this. The land is so rocky and mountainous. Desert, rock fields.
When we finally reached the north of the sea we drove in circles for quite a time to find the hotel. No signage. Then when we finally reached the hotel we find a fairly new Ramada, with a fence and gate...and a man who checks for bombs. So we passed that test. We got checked in and then discovered that all our worldly goods would have to be handed over in order to eat at the hotel. What a price! Crazy. Who are they feeding at that price. By that time we were pretty tired and a little Hangry. So off we went to a little restaurant that was on the main road. So I go in to check out the menu and while I’m there, Bestie’s Man discovers he can’t open the car door. He’s locked in! Haha. A man steps up to help. Eventually it’s fixed. He’s out! So the restaurant doesn’t have hummus. The man who helped said, “Just go next door to the convenience store and buy some. You can bring it to the restaurant.” And that is what we did. We ordered fried chicken and grilled chicken (the best we’ve had so far this trip— and that is saying something) and brought hummus from next door and had wonderful bread. All for a pittance. And a cat came in from outside and shared our leftovers. Don’t you just love this country! People were so friendly and helpful. The food was so good. The cat was friendly. No more Hangry!
In the morning Bestie and I headed down to the sea. We only had about an hour as the man from the car company was coming to pick up the car and drop us at King Hussein Bridge (Allenby Bridge). I rubbed the mud on, then went into the ocean. A couple who were already there told me to walk in and then sit. so I did. And I floated. It was next to impossible to push my legs down. I know that sounds crazy. So I had to turn and propel myself backwards with my arms until I got to shallow water. It felt unnatural. I’d been warned not to get the water in my eyes or even on my face as it would burn. The mud came off, sort of oily. It stuck to my cuticles and under my nails. It was a ‘sperience!
And off to the crossing. We’d been warned that trouble could be had at this bridge. It is the only crossing for the Palestinians coming from the West Bank. They can cross into Jordan and fly out of their airport or continue into the Middle East. Of course the Israelis are touchy about the Palestinians. The Jordanians are touchy about the Israelis that are coming into their country or going out. So everyone is on edge. The men at the crossing were grim. Uniforms and guns. Not the friendly Jordanians that we’d been encountering incountry. Not that they were unpleasant. Just serious. But we were dropped off and walked into Jordan customs, paid our exit fee and then boarded a shuttle bus that would take us to the Israel border. The system they have set up seems to me to be awkward in the extreme. They take our passports when we pay, (10 Dinars) then we wait, then we go out and put our luggage on the bus, board the bus...all without any instruction. A very nice Chinese man helped us. And a priest also offered assurances that we were doing the right thing and that our passports would be returned. And sure enough, a man came on with a pack of passports and matched them up with the faces on the bus. We paid him the fee to ride the bus. 8.5 Dinars each. What they were doing with those passports I can’t imagine.
We drove awhile, waited awhile. A Jordanian policeman came on and checked a passport or two, looked us over. We drove some more. Checkpoint. Then we were at Israeli customs. Another lineup. Luggage goes through a big scanner. We waited quite a while for it. Took a long time for the luggage to come through. But I had some time to look around. There were women working there. I hadn’t realized how much I missed them. They were, generally, smiling and cheerful, helpful. The men were friendly, although I noticed there were several men just watching. They had security tags on and were just leaning on the wall, watching. Many soldiers with big guns stood around but did not appear threatening to us.
I have to say that the magic word is “Canadian”. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve said this and been fast tracked through security lines, scanner lines. Welcome, Welcome! It’s wonderful to be Canadian.
We got through Israeli customs. So from start to finish, about 3 hours. Not bad. No problems, just waiting.
And we’re in Israel. It is immediately more organized, more European. Everything is done quickly and completely. We get a taxi and we’re off to Jerusalem. The country is neat and tidy. Great road. It is obvious we have left Jordan. It’s 45 minutes to our hotel. So glad to be here
