“This is confidential, Kayson!” A groan escaped your mouth as you moved your laptop away from him.

“Chill, you act as if you hold the government's secret,” Kayson chuckled, sitting beside you.

You huffed, closing the tab before he sees more of what you're planning.

“What's with the secrecy anyways? Don't tell me you're planning a surprise,” His grin wide as he teased you. You almost caved in to his charms, luckily, you're stronger than that.

“Surprise for who? Is it your dad's birthday?” You looked at him with furrowed brows, wishing that he won't see through you.

“Oh… I was just teasing,” Kayson smiled, a pang of hurt flashed in his eyes. Guilt immediately filled you, you wished that you could tell him that it was just part of the plan, that you are going to celebrate it with him. Instead you focused on your plan.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Kid is surprisingly affectionate. He's all about holding hands and snuggling, but unless he's being a cheeky bastard he's not going to do it in public much. He has a reputation to maintain (one that no one who knows him actually takes seriously, but still).

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Kid as a best friend is 100% ride or die. He's going to be gruff, but he'll have your back in everything. He might be a dick about what he says or does, but at the end of the day you'll know that it was the best advice/action for you that he could provide.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

I view Kid as a mult-tasker cuddler. He'll play video games while you're snuggled with him, or even read – if you're willing to hug onto like a reverse backpack he's even been known to work on tinker stuff, tilting his head down from time to time to kiss the top of your head while he fiddles with a project.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Kid is awful at cooking. He's surprisingly good at cleaning, even if he's not a fan of it, it's gotta get done. He'll pay for someone to keep common-areas clean, but his work spaces have lots of rules for cleaning and organizing (for safety and sanity reasons). He'll say he doesn't want kids or a family, but if the situation fell into his lap he'd be terrified and excited at the same time. He'd end up doing hours of research so he didn't mess anything up.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Eustass Kid breaking things off with someone would be cold and cruel. He'd want you to hate him by the time you walked away from it so that you wouldn't dwell on things and could move on faster. He'd be a real bastard, but then he'd be on a rage-bender for days or weeks because it would mess him up – even if he absolutely knew it was for the best. He's a soft-heart even if he'd die before he'd admit it.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Kid doesn't think anyone is going to want to keep him around for forever. He would blow off concepts of commitment and marriage and be really flippant about them, but it's really just him trying to keep himself from getting his hopes up. He would be a nervous mess if he risked popping the question, but I think he would be completely okay with being asked.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Almost no one is going to equate GENTLE with Eustass Kid. He has the emotional subtly of a hammer, but he's painfully aware that he's a big, bulky, scary looking guy with scars and a gruff voice. Usually he utilizes this to keep people at a distance, but once he realizes you aren't afraid of him you'll see all the parts of him that are physically gentle. He struggles with emotions a lot, but he does try.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Kid loves hugs, but he's not one to initiate them. There's an emotional component to them, and he's not comfortable with that, so he'll hug when asked, but unless he's fired up and caught up in a celebration, he's not going to scoop someone up into a hug.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Kid will swear you will never hear him say such a useless sappy word, and if you stick with him for forever you might only hear it a handful of times over the years, but his actions will speak for him long before he finally gives in and says it for the first time.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they're jealous?)

Kid gets jealous easy, and it's a weird kind of jealous. It's not that he doesn't trust you, it's that he doesn't trust the world. If he cares enough about you To Get Jealous in the first place, then it's because you're a special person and he knows if he can see it, other people can see it. Since he doesn't think he's the kind of guy anyone wants to stay with, he gets tangled up in jealousy easily.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Kid's more action than talk, and while hugs leave him feeling emotionally vulnerable, kisses are a way for him to show his skills, and he is not shy about showing off. He could write a book on different ways to kiss someone and be set for life.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

Kid is a kid. He's a big kid. He's going to be young at heart for the rest of his life, and he's really great with kids. He's not entirely sure exactly what to do with kids that are too young to communicate, but loose a gaggle of 7-12-year-olds onto him and your biological clock will assure you he'll make a Great Dad™.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Mornings with Kid are like being around a teddy bear. He doesn't say much, he'll cuddle you on reflex if you get too close, and if you want him to wake up faster you're going to have to consider some NSFW things.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

... Oh I can't really answer that safely, but, outside of Kid's favorite night time activity, he gets more energetic as the day goes on, so if you're too tired at night that's probably when he'll exercise, just so he can burn off enough energy to go to bed.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

He's more upfront about things he thinks will scare you off at the beginning. If you stick around and get past that you'll slowly learn everything about him. It might take some time, but it won't necessarily be because he's embarrassed or secretive. He just doesn't think anyone would find him that interesting.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Kid's temper is like flash paper – it's easy to ignite and burns bright, but it doesn't last long. He can smolder about something for Weeks if it's really important, but if things get resolved he's not holding onto things. He only gets physical when there's a need for it – like an actual fight or conflict that requires it. As loud as he gets during an argument with a friend or partner he never lets it turn into a physical fight.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Kid doesn't want you to know that he knows, but he doesn't forget much of anything. His hobbies are detail-oriented, and so is he. But remembering things is sappy sucker stuff, so he's not admitting to any of it – but hang around him long enough and you'll realize he knows everyone's favorite drink, gives little random "whatever" gifts for every birthday, and certainly remembers to get tickets for the thing you mentioned that one time, and it's really no big deal.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

There's that moment when even Kid can't argue that you like him. A touch, a phrase, an event, something where even the most oblivious person on the planet would know – that's his favorite moment. When there was no room for him to argue how you've felt about him and not even the worst of his brain weasels could convince him otherwise.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Kid's almost too protective. He's big and bad. The world's big and bad. And you're not. Not compared to him, not compared to a cruel world. He doesn't want to lock you away in a tower, but it's a tempting idea. He really struggles with letting you have healthy freedoms and such, balanced against making sure you're safe.

And while he can't stop you from protecting him in return, he won't be happy about it. I mean, he will be happy that you care enough to want to protect him, but he's the big bad tough one in the relationship, and he's supposed to protect you.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

As loud and proud as Kid is, his gifts and dates and such are surprisingly lowkey. He's not a shout from the mountaintops kind of guy when it comes to his love for you, but he doesn't forget. Even if he might let you think he has forgotten.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Kid doesn't handle his emotions well. As much as communication helps, sometimes you just have to let him fume for a while or cool off before you can do anything about it. It can be frustrating, but there's a lot of trauma behind it, and considering his size and strength, it's amazing that as ugly as it gets, he's never hurt anyone physically. He's hurled items around and punched holes in walls, but he's never even punched Killer during the worst of his fits, and Killer could legitimately take it.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Kid is surprisingly well-groomed. He looks rough and tumble, and he's not walking around smelling like strawberries or anything, but he keeps things trimmed and keeps himself clean. Tinkering and robotics are easier when you're not grimy.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Kid can move on, and eventually he will if things don't work out, but if things last you'll get him to admit that he didn't even know he was missing something until you came along and like, don't let that go to your head or anything.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

I don't think Kid ever knew a family before becoming friends with Killer. I feel like his name is Kid because he had like "Eustass" on a tag on a basket and the street people called him "That Eustass Kid" and he just decided his name was Eustass Kid. So when it comes to family stuff he's super awkward, but he always wanted one, so when it happens for him he's a mix of excited, happy and terrified he'll mess it all up.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn't like, either in general or in a partner?)

Indecisiveness. Being wishy washy about things will drive him to making the choice for you, and neither of you are going to like that because he'll choose to cut his losses before things go any further.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)

Kid snores unless he's snuggling something. Doesn't matter if it's you, a pillow, a teddy bear or what. It's weird and you don't know why it works that way, but it does.

Attending to his responsibilities as Master of the New York Sanctum often kept Stephen away from Kamar-Taj for days, or even weeks, at a time.  As a key bulwark in the defense of Earth against other worldly and other dimensional threats, the Sanctum was his top priority, even as he continued to refine his skills and hone his mastery of the mystic arts.  Fortunately, his former career had left him well prepared for the pressure and demands upon his time and talents, forging him into an accomplished multi-tasker.  With constant vigilance as his watchword—and the assistance of a dozen advanced Adepts rotating through his Sanctum on a regular basis--Stephen succeeded handily.

He returned to Kamar-Taj after a two-week stint, which included a protracted battle against several demons who sought to assert mind control over a gullible group of religious cultists, hoping to use them as conduit from one of the dark dimensions to create a foothold upon Earth.  Glad for the quiet and orderly calm which the compound offered, Stephen headed for the library before checking in with masters of the various disciplines—for Wong remained his best source for keeping track of not only crucial developments within the facility, but for updating him on the small details of everyday life among the students.

Crossing the courtyard, he spotted Teyla—now clad in the currant-colored garments of an Adept—sitting on one of the waist high stone partitions, speaking with a male Adept who appeared about her age.  He was leaning against the low wall; they looked quite comfortably close, as she laughed at something he had said.  Another young man soon joined them, boosting himself up to sit beside her. Stephen was glad to see this indication that Teyla had found a good fit among her peers; her focus had been so steadfast upon training, and upon the work she longed to do, that he’d been concerned she might isolate herself from social interactions.  He grinned as her honest laughter carried across to him easily on the clear, morning air--making him wish he could be party to the trio’s conversation, and discover what had animated her so.

Mixed in with his curiosity, Stephen felt a quiet swell of protectiveness move him, for Teyla’s sake.  He supposed it wasn’t too unusual—he did bear a share of responsibility for her well-being, after all.  Yet the music of her laughter was lovely enough to leave him with a twinge of longing for a chance of his own to make her laugh, and to see the amusement that must color her soft doe-eyes…

With a deep breath, he shook off his uncharacteristic woolgathering and turned his mind back to practical matters, making a mental note to ask Wong about the Adepts paying such close attention to Teyla—reasoning that Moraine wouldn’t want them distracting her daughter too much from her training regimen.

Teyla’s voice followed him as he reached the steps leading to the library, “Doctor.  A moment of your time, please?”  Stephen turned back, to find her sprinting towards him.

“Good morning, Teyla,” he grinned, noticing the bloom of healthy color in her cheeks; life at Kamar-Taj obviously suited her well.  “What can I do for you?”

She reached his side, bright eyed and not winded in the least, “I wished to welcome you back.  I am glad to see you are well, and safely returned to us.”

“Thank you—I’m happy to be back myself.”  And he was; coupled with Teyla’s sincere, enthusiastic greeting, there was something rejuvenating in returning to the place where his eyes had at last been opened to the hidden wonders of the universe.  “I see you’ve advanced quickly while I’ve been gone.”

She gave a little twirl, showing off her new tunic, and beaming with delight, “It was only yesterday I was awarded the ranking of Adept.”

Though the last time they had spoken, she had sworn again to work her hardest, Stephen hadn’t expected her to achieve that rank so quickly.  “You have good reason to be proud, Teyla—you’ve accomplished much in your time here.”  His honest compliment was rewarded with her prettiest smile yet.  “And I’m sure your mother will be pleased with your progress,” he added.

“That is one of my hopes, Doctor,” she proclaimed, “But in truth, I have other priorities beyond pleasing Mother.”  For the first time, Teyla seemed unintimated by Moraine’s heavy-handed expectations—and if it was her studies at Kamar-Taj that had awakened this new streak of independence, he would be delighted to encourage her.

“Teyla, am I correct in guessing there may be something I can do to help you accomplish these goals?”

“Is mind-reading one of your many skills, Doctor Strange?”  She laughed softly, and somehow the charm of it—coupled with the guileless admiration in her warm, brown eyes—left him feeling about ten years younger, and very light of heart.

“I’m afraid I’m not that talented,” he chuckled, “Let’s just call it an educated guess instead.”  She acquiesced with a small nod, so that he asked, “How can I help you, Teyla of Hadeeth?”

“Well, there are two matters on my mind, Doctor,” she began, “I hope to begin studies in the mystic healing arts of Kamar-Taj.  I am already skilled in those of my own people, and I wish to learn as much as I can here, not only to expand my abilities, but to share them with other Healers when I return home.”

“A reasonable request, and one I recall from your arrival here.”  He weighed her entreaty only a moment before telling her, “I think we can make arrangements to begin, so long as you maintain good progress in your other studies…”

“Yes…yes, of course,” she readily agreed.

“And you will continue in your efforts to develop a better understanding and some control over your prescient dreaming…” he reminded her.

“Absolutely!” she exclaimed.

‘Excellent,” he commended her.  Then, in light of his role as her tutor on the subject, Stephen continued, “And how goes the dream journal these days?”

Teyla raised a brow and parted her lips to respond, then seemed to reconsider her answer before replying cautiously, “I have made a record of my dreams, though…hmmm…for the most part, I do not believe they are of import to my training…”

“Are you that certain, Teyla?”  His curiosity piqued, Stephen felt obligated to advise her, “Perhaps you should consult with Master Salma or myself; sometimes a student lacks the perspective to judge such things for themselves.”

She looked away, abruptly self-conscious and fairly stammering back, “No, Sir…no.  I am certain my…these…these dreams are merely the ordinary dreams of…of a mind tired by days of rigorous training and study.”  Facing him again, her eyes plead silently for him to let the subject rest at that.

Perplexed, Stephen chose not to belabor the topic—for now.  “Okaaaay.  We can hold off on that a bit—as long as you’re sure there’s nothing important.”  He observed her closely for any clue as to what might eclipse her usual candor.  She showed relief—and gratitude—but no hint of any secret.  “And your second request?”

Eagerly, she addressed a subject much dearer to her heart, “My father, Doctor. I thought perhaps you might allow me time to visit him.  I have fulfilled my promise, after all—and I long to reunite with him soon.”

Her visible affection for her father would be persuasion enough, even without reminding him of his promise.  “The sooner, the better, I’m guessing.”

“Yes, Sir. Yes…please?”

“I’ll need to check with your other Masters first, but I can’t imagine they’ll give me anything but glowing reports about your progress.”  He laid a hand upon her shoulder, happy to fulfill her fondest wish, “Consider it as good as done, Teyla.  Will tomorrow morning be soon enough?”

She replied exactly as expected, “Oh yes, Doctor Strange.  Thank you so very much!”  And then, to his surprise, she moved in close and brushed a fleeting kiss upon his cheek.  Not giving him a moment to react, she backed away, “Do forgive my forwardness—I’m just…I’m very glad for this gift.”

So pleasant a kiss—and light as a fairy’s, he mused. As though he’d actually been kissed by a fairy at any point in his life.  Recovering swiftly, Stephen quirked her a crooked smile, “Think nothing of it, Teyla—I’d kiss me too over such good news.”

She regarded him skeptically, then allowed his ready humor to set her at ease.  “Indeed, Doctor Strange. That’s quite a thing to picture.”  She bobbed her head in farewell, “I should be off to class, but will look for your affirmation later.”

“Yes.”  As she turned to go, he remembered to ask, “By the way, just where on Earth does your father live?”

“New York City,” she nearly sang in her delight, “In the village of Greenwich.”

“Greenwich Village,” he had muttered as he watched Teyla cross the courtyard en route to her class.  Why does that not surprise me?  It was enough to make him speculate that the Universe had a perverse sense of humor.  Weeks ago, when Teyla had revealed her history of dreaming of his hands, he’d acknowledged it was more than just coincidence that their paths had eventually crossed here in Kathmandu.  After the initial shock—and the uneasy hours spent wondering if perhaps she’d been given those visions in order to save him the tragic damage that destroyed his old world—Stephen had accepted it as yet another marvel of his new world, and as a sign he was exactly where he was supposed to be.  This latest detail almost seemed like overkill—but also led him to suspect that this kind, ingenuous young woman might have a significant role to play in the mystic mission of Kamar-Taj…and mayhap, in his own service to the multi-verse.

As promised, Stephen sent a Novice to deliver a message to Teyla that evening, telling her to be ready to depart from the main courtyard at 9am the next morning--and that he would accompany her.  He planned to conjure the portal himself, bringing her to the New York Sanctum personally, before setting out for her father’s place.  Though he felt a bit anxious, he remained intrigued to see what further “coincidences” might arise between them, and if there might be an overarching purpose revealed as to their unanticipated…entanglement.  Perhaps meeting her father might shed some light on the rapidly multiplying twists of fate that seemed to be bringing them together.  If not, well…at least he could set his mind at ease, knowing Teyla was safely delivered to the one soul in a city of eight million plus, who would wish only for her best.

how’d you apply for alarm dispatch and how was it (idk just curious)

so this was for a company whose building was actually in a pretty small obscure town (5k population), i got it because one of my former coworkers from kwik trip was switching jobs to there and they gave me the contact info for their boss which i called and got a direct interview for......which i know is very unhelpful but unless you live in minnesota i have no direct recommendation for you </3

as for the job itself, ehhhh..........in MY experience i had to work 10 hours shifts with three 15 min breaks and one 30 min lunch break but usually i ended up actually working 13-14 hours because someone would always call out or be late or something and there HAS to be people there (and i needed the money)

it could be fun at times, i mean i'm a good multi-tasker and a really fast typer so usually i didn't struggle mechanically but it really did hurt my throat from having to talk on the phone literally all day. and some people are horrible to deal with because their alarm goes off and they're too stupid to write down their code word for us to not call the police to go investigate so that they would remember LOL

i mainly quit because i was moving too far away but the long hours is really what made it suck for me personally. it was very rare to have anything more than 2 minutes of nobody you'd have to call so it is consistent work for 10-14 hours a day. and then on my days off they'd always call me asking if i could come in LOL

but i think that's mainly because the company i worked for was again in a very obscure location and didn't have a lot of people to be workers for it. i actually enjoyed the experience a lot i just hated a lot of it
