Rengoku baby daddy headcanons
Rengoku spends the whole of the train ride rambling to Tanjirou, Nezuko, and Zanitsu about how excited he is to behaving a baby with you. So much so that even they have to admit they were excited.
Like would your baby look like you or him? Perhaps both?
When you both learn you are with child, he makes a promise to always keep the two of you safe.
It's only partway through the Mugen Train mission that he realises that he cannot do that if he dies.
His non-functioning eye waters at the idea of you and his child living all by yourselves, your child never having met their father.
He had never pondered how much he mattered to someone. Or how much the creature growing inside of you mattered to him.
The demon stares at him in confusion when he stops swinging his sword. Akaza nearly believes that heartbroken your husband.
"Tanjirou. If I don't come back- please tell my wife" he coughs "and my family I love them"
Tanjirou is not about to let Rengoku act like he's going to die.
"Rengoku, listen to me... You aren't going to die. You're going to return home, hug your wife and hold your baby, and you're going to live a long life- watching your family grow up. You'll teach your children a legacy. Kyojurou, you're going to live and be so loved!"
His speech awakens something inside of him. He knows he must fight for you- he can't lay and wait for death like a coward. He feels reinvigorated as he continues to fight off the demon's attacks.
Akaza almost feels bad for having to kill the slayer. Almost.
It's nearly day when Rengoku finally beheads the demon, a great deal of pride overcoming himself before he faints face-first into the ground.
Rengoku is barely back to form when you go into labour, but he forces his way from his bed- against the butterfly girls' begs- and hobbles into your hospital room, clinging to your hand as you cry.
He whispers sweet words of encouragement into your hand, kissing your knuckles to distract you and never flinching when you scratch him in pain.
When the baby is born, handed to you in a soft blanket, the first thing you see is bright yellow hair. He's in love with how cute their tiny face is, even as it cries.
"Congratulations! It's a perfectly healthy beautiful baby girl!" Shinobu grins.
His daughter. Nearly the spitting image of him. 'just cuter', he thinks.
When you're both finally allowed to go home, he fights tooth and nail to do all the housework, despite his injuries. You argue with him but he's sure that he'd rather have you comfy and with baby Rengoku than tired and unwell.
Over the months he gets closer to being fullform, though he's aware he'll never see from his eye, and will always have a limp.
That doesn't mean he won't do everything for your child though <3
He'll give her piggyback rides, tuck her into bed, and build forts with her.
He doesn't admit it but having Senjurou around is really helpful when he's in an episode of pain.
Even his father tries to be more involved after the birth, trying to reconcile with his children and make an effort in his grandchild's life.
He retires from the corp after his battle with upper four, with a considerable pension, so he uses all his time to the fullest with his family
But if you think he'll be content with just one baby, you've got another thing coming.
"Aw, but you'd look so pretty pregnant again! And surely Ruka would love a new sibling"

hotaru x fem!reader
fluff + married + stay at home wife reader + this is a bit short
him getting married was something the village NEVER expected
and to a sweet but fierce y/n much less. another shocker!!
anyway, your life with him is… pretty hectic.
at first, as his first relationship, it was quite stressful.
but the two of your were already quite old, looking for something serious so communication came very easily.
affection was quite tuff but soon it was the main expression of love and gratitude.
anyways, you had come up after a long day of selling
while you were a stay at home wife, that didn’t stop you from going up the mountains and giving out lunches to the hard working swordsman, especially that hungry husband of yours.
normally you’d be the first to get home, because of how dangerous night time could be .
despite how protected the village was, you could never be too cautious
but to your dismay, today was quite too long and you got home after dark
and to your surprise, hotaru was already home
“where were you?” he asks with a pout and a huff.
“sorry,” you apologize with a pout, “i had someone ask for so many orders i took all day cooking and packing that’s why i gave you yours first thing in the morning.”
he could see how tired you were, and as soon as you walked over to him, he grabbed your arm and pulled you into his lap
his calloused hands grab your mask and pull it off, revealing your smile, despite how tired you were and looked, you were bright and enchanting in his eyes
“you left dinner before you left, hm?”
“i did,” you sigh and he massages your shoulders, eyes closing.
“let’s eat, hm? i don’t like eating without you.”
you grin, “awe, what a cutie.” you flick his forehead, “but i know you ate already. you just won’t have the second bowl without me.”
he denies it harshly but you laugh hard as he picks you up and carries you to the dining table.
he always places you gently, making sure you’re comfortable.
to your enjoyment, he serves both of you.
and you enjoy the meal a lot more when he tells you about his hatred towards kamado tanjirou and his love for blade polishing.
while you yourself knew how to make blades, you’d much rather hear about it than do it.
as hotaru says “you weren’t made for that.”
and he makes sure you’re pampered for the rest of the night.
a nice bath. a nice scrub. a nice change of clothes.
and a warm cuddle to fall asleep in.
oh, and that warm kiss of your forehead. along with whispered praises and hopes to see each other in the morning.

AU where Uzui sees Sanemi struggle with his feelings towards Tomioka so he did something that might spurn Sanemi to finally act: He would pretend to want Giyuu to be his 4th wife/1st husband/spouse:
Uzui is tired of seeing Sanemi talk about Giyuu as if he hates the Water Pillar's guts, when it's obvious it's the opposite. Giyuu is obviously attracted to him too with the "wanna be sanemi's friend" stunt that Tengen heard from Tanjirou. Even Obanai is tired of it
So he thought of something, which he relayed to his wives, and they were excited to help sanemi and giyuu. Suma immediately agreed to pretend (tho she's not good with lying HAHAHA); makio initially thought they shouldn't meddle with it but hinatsuru said they could give it a shot if tengen sees it fit.
So it commences
Works by the way no matter what gender giyuu is
During the times the group of Hashira (except Giyuu) will go out to eat, tengen casually spouts about finding giyuu's quiet demeanor as interesting, earning him questioning looks but he laughs it off and says, "Well, it's not like anyone else feels the same. But I want to hang out with Tomioka more to find out why Tomioka is like that."
Sanemi slightly reacted to that with the slight crease of his forehead as his eyebrows raised, "You're interested in Tomioka? Tomioka is like the most boring out of anyone I've ever met."
Tengen snorts, "There might be a reason for that, and I will find it out. I'll hang out with Tomioka often soon. Who knows, Tomioka might just like hanging out with me."
Sanemi looked away that even Obanai noticed it and sighed.
Cue Tengen openly asking Giyuu to hang out with him; lunch and dinner together, festivals, stores, missions, visibly in front of Sanemi every time and other Hashira as well so it will look more realistic. Giyuu initially declined but eventually agreed to numerous ones. Mostly because Tengen's wives visited and asked Giyuu to go with them.
Just, imagine, Tengen, placing a hand under Tomioka's chin, holding it in place as he lifted it up slightly so Tomioka's gaze was focused on him. Tengen smirks ever so slightly, and in his most sincere tone, says, "Tomioka, want to be my fourth wife/first husband/spouse?" (your choice HAHAHAHA)
Sanemi, who was nearby, and can't take it anymore, marches in, and wraps hand around tengen's hand, though the latter didn't remove his hand on giyuu just yet. Tengen grins. "What's the matter, Shinazugawa?"
Even giyuu is staring at sanemi at this time.
Sanemi, frowning, obviously not amused, and in his deepest and menacing tone, says, "Sorry, there's no way that can happen."
Tengen pushes innocently, "Why is that?"
It took a moment for Sanemi to reply, his grip tightening but Tengen didn't mind.
"Tomioka is with me."
To be continued I guess.

Hii how are ya?
I have a request that I thought of since you like Giyuu (from what I saw as your pfp)
During the hashira training (idk if you seen it)
But during that one scene with tanjiro trying to convince Giyuu to take part in the hashira training instead of opening the door to see Giyuu he sees Giyuu’s wife whom he had never seen before (it’s your choice if you want make reader pregnant or not)
And idk that’s all I really thought of, but you can go on from there
Take care of yourself- xoxo anon
OMG THIS IS SO CUTEEEE BBY!! thank you for requesting, and i am doing well! 🫶🏾🎀 (and yes i do take a small liking to giyuu 😏)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"mister giyuu!" you hear a youthful voice call from behind the door, piquing your interest. "it's kamado tanjirou!!" you look down at the half-asleep giyuu, who is nuzzled in his blanket adorably.
"giyuu, it seems you have a visitor, love." you brush his hair out of his face to gaze into his tired eyes.
"hmm..." he groans. "why is he here..?"
you lean down and peck his forehead. "don't worry about it. i'll go get the door, and you get some rest."
you stand and make your way to the shoji as the voice calls out again. "mister giyuu, i'm coming in!!" the door slides open and you lock eyes with a teenaged boy with burgundy hair and wine-coloured eyes.
"hello there, dear." you smile gently, and the boy seems taken aback. "are you tanjirou?"
"i'm sorry! i thought this was someone else's home." he grins sheepishly. "and yes, i am kamado tanjirou!" he bow
"you are looking for tomioka giyuu, correct?" you tilt your head and his eyes light up.
"yes! do you know him?!"
you giggle. "of course i do. i'm his wife."
"WHAT??!" the boy gawks.
"shh, dear. giyuu's sleeping. come inside, we can talk more over tea."
Tumblr media
"wow, i never would've thought that mister giyuu had a wife!" tanjirou exclaims as you lean over the table to fill his cup full of steaming green tea.
"and why do you think that?" you raise an eyebrow and smile.
tanjirou laughs nervously. "i don't know, it's just that mister giyuu isn't very...social!" you laugh at his observation.
"you're right, he isn't. but surprisingly, he approached me first." you finish pouring your cup and set the teapot down, looking into tanjirou's eyes.
"really?! that's so cute of him!!" he grins.
"it is." your cheeks warm as you think about giyuu. "and as antisocial my love is...he's a good person. most can't tell, but he cares deeply for those close to him."
"you could say that." says from behind you, placing a warm hand on your shoulder.
"mister giyuu!" tanjirou's eyes twinkle as giyuu sits next to you.
"that was a short nap, love." you say to him before pecking his cheek. "tea?"
he waves you off politely, turning his attention to the boy in front of him. "so what brings you here, tanjirou?"
"oh, i almost forgot! i was going to ask if you were participating in the hashira training!!"

After Tanjirou saves Hinatsuru from being killed by Gyutaro, Tengen tells Tanjirou that he owes him one.
And the sound hashira doesn't forget about it.
So when Tanjirou recovers from that mission, Tengen (despite being retired) goes to the butterfly estate to see him and talk to him.
And then suddenly he gives him what it looks like a very expensive hair clip with gemstones before saying:
"I don't know how else to repay you for saving my wife than making you my spouse!"
Tanjirou is surprised and thinks Tengen genuinely believes it's the best way to thank him for what he did, so Tanjirou politely tells him he doesn't have to, but the sound hashira is not accepting a 'No' for an answer.
Tanjirou thinks Tengen is doing it out of duty, but actually Tengen just saw a perfect opportunity and took it without hesitation. Because he and his wives are in love with Tanjirou and want to marry him as soon as possible.

Reuniting with Muichirou in the Afterlife
Tumblr media
Summary: You reunite with Muichirou in the Afterlife (+Mini bonus)
There were no gifts. There was no partying till midnight like your previous birthdays. It was just you and your last few minutes alive. You stroked the area where your mark had been gently, not regretting it at all. As much as you enjoyed spending your remaining years with your friends, you were never able to let yourself get too attached to anyone. You sighed softly to yourself, patiently waiting for the clock to strike twelve.
In the Afterlife, a reunited family wandered around. Joyful laughter and shouts of excitement resounded. A father and his healthy wife smiled to themselves as they watched their two children chase each other. The younger one teasing and laughing at the older one who was chasing him. “Haha, you’re too slow, older brother!” The younger one shouted gleefully and then he stopped altogether. Something, someone called for him. For his soul. And he knew who it was.
There was only one soul who could control his every being. And he has waited too long. He ran, and to where he knew. To the one, to his one and only. He only felt the pull. He only knew he was running to it. He heard a distant voice shouting, shouting for his one, his reason. Was it him? Was it him shouting for his dear? As he ran, he changed back to when they were together, as if every part of him knew.
Everything faded and the view changed to a field of lilies, dandelions and lavenders. You reached up to your head and felt something. It was a flower wreath. You looked up and saw him. Your eyes connected with his. And all of a sudden, you were fourteen and deeply in love again. “Ah.”
Arms engulfing you, a sob escaped him. Your arms slowly went up to wrap around him. Gently patting his back, your eyes stung and a tear slid down your cheek. Then another, and another, and tears just kept flowing down. “How have you been? Did you reunite with your family?” You smiled as you gently pulled back from the hug. Sniffling, Muichirou nodded. Smiling warmly, you brush away his tears and laugh softly. “It seems you’ve healed. I’m glad to see you expressing your emotions more strongly now.” Examining his face, you felt relieved. He was happy and healthy. And he was here, in front of you. Finally, after eleven long years, he was by your side again.
“I’m so glad I get to see you again.” You smiled and pressed a soft kiss onto his cheeks. “Me too. I miss you so much.” You sat down and gestured at him to do the same. You tilted your head to the side and studied him, trying to carve his features into his mind. You realised after eleven years, the image and memories of him you had had softened around the edges. A smile graced your face. It doesn’t matter, he was here now.
Fidgeting slightly under your scrutiny, Muichirou still couldn’t but be in awe of you. “What did you do after the war ended?” He felt guilty for not being able to see you win. To see you survive. He remembered anxiously waiting for the sun to rise and the relief that flooded him when you didn’t appear in the Afterlife. Bringing himself out of his thoughts, Muichirou focused on your voice.
“Well, at first, I lived in my estate but after a few months I decided to live in yours. Yours felt more like home.” You smiled sheepishly but smugly at the same time. “My days consisted of me watering plants I planted, visiting Tanjirou and his friends, and going to the Butterfly Estate for checkups and such. On birthdays, everyone would go to their estate to throw a party and celebrate. Occasionally I would visit the Ubuyashiki family. It was nice, everything was so peaceful and pleasant. I just wished more of us got to experience it.” You smiled sadly.
Muichirou tentatively reached for your hand, you noticed his actions and entwined your hands together. He smiled. “Would you like to see my family? I think they’re wondering where I went.” You laughed. “That would be nice.” Getting up, Muichirou doesn’t let go of your hand and gently tugs you forward, guiding you in the direction where he came from. The scenery changed again. Three figures appeared. You tilted your head to the side, one was a man, another a woman and one looked identical to Muichirou. “That’s your twin right?” You paused. “That was a stupid question, I’m sorry.” The woman chuckled.
“Don’t be, dear. You must be the one Mui keeps talking about.” Hearing her words, you smirked slightly at Muichirou who avoided your gaze as the tip of his ears turned pink. “I suppose I am. I’m glad to finally meet his family.” Smiling, you bowed slightly. “You seem too good for that idiot.” Yuichirou pointed out as he stuck his tongue out at Muichirou. Glaring at him, Muichirou holds your hand tighter. Biting back your laughter, you rubbed soothing circles over Muichirou’s hand. The banter continued.
You had fun. You truly did enjoy spending time with Muichirou and his family. But you knew. Slowly slipping your hand away from him, you take a small step back. He stares at you knowingly and sadly. Tiptoeing, you pat his head and laugh. “Don’t worry, I’ll see you next time. Maybe we’ll last longer in our next life.” The scenery changed again. The both of you were in the same field of flowers like before. Removing the wreath on your hand, you place it in Muichirou’s hands. “Give it back to me if you love me in our next life together.” Slowly caressing your face, he looks at you, the sadness visible in his eyes. “Our paths will always intersect and I will always love you.” He presses a soft kiss against your cheek and you fade away with the scenery, smiling at him.
Bonus: Giggling, you ran around in a flower field and tackled your friend. “What were you doing, Mui?” Soft innocent eyes looked up at you, Muichirou beamed and held out a flower wreath to you. “Look! I made a wreath for you!” He stood up and placed it gently on your head, careful not to mess or tug your hair. Muichirou smiles proudly and happily. “You look so cute!”
a/n: was originally a request but posted separately since the request contained manga spoilers oh and I’m really bad at angst so I’m so so sorry oml

"My Wife..."
Tumblr media
Forgetful! Fem! Wife! (Y/N) x Husband! Tanjirou
        Modern AU!
        Tanjirou's POV!
Tumblr media
        My wife is very forgetful.
“Love, did you remember to take the tea off the stove?” I questioned.
“Did I w- OH! The tea!” she gasped, standing up from the couch and rushing to the kitchen. “Darn it!” I heard her shout.
“Burnt?” I questioned, walking into the kitchen.
        “Burnt…” she sighed. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t worry. We can make a new batch. This time, let’s set a timer.” I smiled.
“Okay.” She smiled, perking up a little.
I walked out of the kitchen and back into the living room, continuing to watch the TV. Soon, she came back and laid down on the couch, placing her legs on top of my lap as she clinged onto my arm.
Another thirty minutes into the movie I questioned. “When will that timer go off?”
“Ah! I forgot to set the timer!” she whined, hopping off the couch and rushing to the kitchen. “Ha!” she exclaimed. “Not burnt!”
        Sometimes, her forgetfulness is concerning.
“Do you think you might have some disorder or condition?” I questioned.
“A disorder? Condition? For what?” she smiled, looking at me confused.
        “Your forgetfulness?” I questioned.
“Ah! No way! It runs in the family, my great grandma couldn’t remember things either!” she spoke.
“Oh, okay then.” I sighed, glad it wasn’t anything serious.
My nose picked up the smell of burnt cookies and I spoke. “Hey. You did set a timer for those cookies… right?” I questioned.
“Darn it!” she huffed, immediately turning around and rushing into the kitchen.
Though sometimes, her forgetfulness is endearing.
“My love, I bought you your favorite pastry!” she spoke, opening and closing the front door as she set the grocery bags on the table.
“Oh, really? You didn’t have to!” I smiled, grabbing the bags and helping her put them away.
“Here!” she beamed, reaching into the bag and giving me a pack of sugar cookies.
“Ah. I appreciate your gift, but these are Nezuko’s favorite cookies.” I smiled.
Sugar cookies are too dry for my taste...
“I knew I was doing something wrong!” she whined.
“Don’t worry! Nezuko will enjoy them!” I smiled reassuringly.
“Then… are these perhaps not your second favorite?” she spoke shyly, lifting a package of chocolate chip cookies up to hide her embarrassed face.
“Those are my first favorite.” I chuckled, reaching and grabbing the package from her hands. “Thank you, dear.” I sighed happily, kissing her cheek as she smiled flusteredly.
“Yes! I’m not a shitty wife!” she spoke, fist-bumping air.
Other times, her forgetfulness could be a bit of a hassle.
“Ah, honey! You were supposed to be ready twenty minutes go! I’ve been waiting in the car!” I exclaimed, shocked to see her lying down on our bed.
        “I was?” she questioned.
“Yes! We have to hurry and get a gift and party supplies since you forgot to get them when you shopping yesterday and I texted you what we needed.” I smiled nervously, eying the time.
“Ah! Sorry! I’ll hurry!” she exclaimed, sitting up and gently placing down her stuffed bunny before running to the closet.
Other times, her forgetfulness is quite helpful.
“Oh! You didn’t tell Nezuko that we couldn’t make it to the festival, did you? I was able to get the day off from my boss!” I spoke, running into the kitchen as she was cleaning.
“I was supposed to do what?” she questioned.
“Oh, thank goodness.” I sighed, relieved as I walked over and patted her head.
“Eh?” she questioned, confused on what I’m thanking her for but enjoying the affection nonetheless.
But despite all of the miniature problems it’s caused, it’s one of the charming things about her.
“I forgot what your favorite color was and I didn’t want to ask you since it’ll ruin the surprise, so I bought them in every color.” She admitted, smiling shyly as she carried 20 different stuffed bears into our bedroom.
“Oh! Thank you so much, darling—but you could’ve just asked.” I smiled gratefully, taking them from her hands.
“I know… but I really didn’t want to disappoint you.” She muttered. “If I had the money, you deserve all of the stuffed animals in the world!” she declared, then raced out of the room and back with a red heart-shaped box. “Chocolates too!”
“Thank you very much, love.” I smiled, kissing her cheek as her eyes widen, heat spreading on her face as she smiled flustered.
Even though stuffed animals are more of her thing, it’s still very endearing and adorable. I thought.
However, even though she forgets a lot of small things, she’s never forgotten about me or things she considers important.
“Tanji! Guess what?” she questioned immediately as I stepped through the front door, coming back from work.
        “Yes, dear?” I questioned.
“This time I remember to set out meat to defrost, so I made your favorite!” she beamed, almost mispronouncing a word or two, but I could understand her as she was just too excited to form her words. “And I also cleaned up everywhere! And I also got you flowers! And—“ she stopped her enthusiastic ramble “Aw, darn! I forgot I wasn’t supposed to tell you that part!”
“You got me flowers?” I questioned, smiling as I felt my face heat up.
“Yeah. I got you asters and red carnations…” she muttered, sad she ruined the surprise.
“It’s okay. I bet they’re as gorgeous as you.” I smiled, patting her head.
She smiled, raising her head. “I got them because they mean undying love and admiration!”
“And because my hair is red, according to you.” I teased.
“If I say it’s red, it’s officially red!” she huffed.
        “Of course, dear.” I smiled.
My wife may be very forgetful and clumsy, but I love her to the moon and back because of it.

Dies
Has to watch his sister's shenanigans from the afterlife
Ashen Moonlight Sun Goddess:
Damn near dies multiple times
Turned into a demon
Gets brainwashed/mind controlled for four hundred years
Dies(half points for this one, since this can be seen as a mercy and finally giving him a damn break)
(Possibly) goes to Hell
Moonlit Butterfly:
Gets attacked by a demon and nearly dies
Comes across massacred family, with the only survivor being the one who went with him
Damn near dies in Final Selection
Target on his back because of the Yoriichi PTSD
Dies to Kokushibo
Stuck as a ghost, watching his sister go into a downward spiral of guilt complexes and other such issues that make you wish therapy was a real and helpful thing in the early 20th century
Tries to help Nezuko as a ghost, but fails 99% of the time
And I think that's all of them.
Tanjirou, this whole time:

Haganezuka blind date official story
Here is one of the official side stories of demon slayer about the sword smith village chef trying to wed Haganezuka in his 37 birthday hoping that having a wife will make Haganezuka easier to deal with
Cr to the author and transilator
This is vol 3 ch 2 :
(T/N: In modern times, we would have called it a blind date but I’m just gonna stick to matchmaking which is more time appropriate)
Haganezuka Hotaru was a superb sword smith.
Not only did he have the polished techniques that were passed down through the generations of the Haganezuka clan, he loved swords more than anyone else.
But there was a huge problem with his personality.
When he was only two years old, because of his difficult personality, he whittled down his parents’ mental spirit. Afterwards, he even grabbed a cleaver and chased after this youth from the Demon Slayer corps who had a custom sword made by him, yelling “I’ll kill you!!”, “You deserve a thousand deaths!!” and so on. He even choked another youth who had the same job as him and beat up a youth who was a Pillar and various other violent actions. It was already well known among others that he was a self-centered individual……
*
“Hotaru really gives people a headache.”
While seated in the living area and eating mitarashi dango, Tecchikawahara Tecchi let out a huge sigh.
Just to mention, the mitarashi dango was a gift to Haganezuka by the Demon Slayer Kamado Tanjirou. As Tanjirou had trampled on the result of painstaking effort that came from Haganezuka polishing a blade without rest, Haganezuka, in a fit of rage, demanded that Tanjirou “give him mitarashi dango till the day he dies”.
Tanjirou was really amazing* and he really followed the instructions obediently.
(T/N: Amazing – not in a good way. As in doing something to make people bewildered and so on)
Speaking of this thirty seven year old man with the maturity of a fifteen year old….
As the foster father who gave Haganezuka his name, Tecchin slumped his shoulders in low spirits.
“Did I go wrong in the way I raised him?”
“No no no. He’s already a man who’s close the forty. Right now it has nothing to do with how he had been raised.”
Kanamori brewed tea and said calmly.
“Right? Kotetsu boy?”
When his name got called, Kotetsu looked up from his mitarashi dango.
“Yeah. With a personality that’s antisocial and being a hot-headed loner, it’s all Haganezuka’s own fault. You don’t have to care.”
“Even so, I feel that I should take responsibility for it~”
Tecchin shrugged his shoulders lightly like a child.
“I really wish he could become more amicable. Isn’t there some good method for it?”
“Nope.”
Kotetsu answered harshly.
“Rather than changing that person, it’s definitely easier to teach a bear to shake.”
“……Well.” On the other hand, Kanamori who was older, and had more experience in life tilted his head. Then—
“How about setting him up for a matchmaking session?”
Kanamori said leisurely.
*
The plan “It’s about time to get Haganezuka married and create a family and become a changed man” raised by Kanamori progressed smoothly, which was unexpected, under Tecchin’s passionate fanning of the flames.
They had worried that Haganezuka would throw a tantrum……However, even though the person himself appeared to be reticent, he did not put up much protest and agreed to the suggestion. Therefore, the date of Haganezuka Hotaru’s matchmaking was set to be on the closest auspicious day.
And today was that auspicious day.
Kanamori, who made the suggestion, and Kotetsu were both staking out at the courtyard of the Ryotei* where the matchmaking was to take place. The goal was, of course, to spy on the situation.
(T/N: A luxurious traditional Japanese restaurant)
As the village did not allow outsiders, the location of the matchmaking was chosen to be in a town that was far enough from the village, in a time established Ryotei that was famous for its beautiful courtyard. The one was made the reservation was Kanamori so there was no need to sneak themselves in.
In the middle of a hall that was the size of more than twenty tatami mats, a man and a woman sat facing each other. Even if it was not said, this pair was Haganezuka and the girl he was set to meet. Tecchin, who was short, sat between them like he was a piece of décor.
The young lady who was all dressed up was cuter than they had expected, with a petite slender frame that contrasted well with the gorgeous peony pattern of her clothes.
“The other party is really cute. How infuriating.”
“Ah, this completely reflects of village head’s preferences. Her face is exactly like Kanroji-sama’s.”
They heard that Tecchin chose the matchmaking partner seriously. Even though the village head usually had a calm and steady composure, there were occasions when he would emit a terrifying aura of intimidation. But when it came to women, he was just like any other lay person.
“Such a cute person was actually willing to come for matchmaking.”
“If we just go based on looks, Haganezuka-san is handsome. In this case, just the photo alone would be able to pass.”
“So in the end, it’s about appearances.”
“No, Kotetsu-boy. The important factor is love, love.”
Kanamori, who fell in love at first sight with his wife and tied the knot with her, was the number one in the village for doting on his wife and it felt like he would go on a long spew about his feelings for his beloved wife anytime.
At the same time, the matchmaking session continued in the hall.
“May I know what your interest is, Haganezuka-san?”
“……smithing swords.” (bo: this originally and everything Haganezuka says is in small letters indicating Haganezuka's low voice full with shyness through the whole conversation 😂)
Clack. The sozu* that was fixed in the courtyard made a clear sound.
(T/N: Bamboo water fountain that can be found in gardens. When one end fills with water, it will tip over and strike a stone, making a noise. Originally for scaring away animals.)
“Your first name is Hotaru? That’s an excellent name.”
“………thank you.”
“Isnt it? I’m the one who gave him that name. However this child keeps complaining that the name is too cute…”
“Fufufu, he must be embarrassed.”
The sozu made a knocking sound again.
“My interest is in cooking. If you don’t mind, may I find out what kind of dishes you like?”
“…….Mitarashi dango.”
The sozu made another clear noise.
“What do you like to do when you’re not working?”
“….Eat mitarashi dango.”
“Dear me, you really do love mitarashi dango.”
“….I wish I can eat that every day.”
“Haganezuka-san is really adorable.”
The loud clapping sound from the sozu seemed to finalise the conversation.
“Oh? It went pretty well? Also, isn’t the sozu too noisy?!”
“True, it did go better than expected.”
“Right? The atmosphere is quite good but that guy didn’t say much at all and his voice is so soft!!”
“He’s probably nervous, right? A big man like him is acting so coy……how gross.”
“Well, he has been living only for the sake of swords after all. He’s unexpectedly innocent. At least, for now, Haganezuka-san has not done anything strange and the lady seems to have good feelings for him. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a chance.”
As though he was the one participating in this matchmaking session, Kanamori was terribly excited.
“Alright, why don’t you two young people take a stroll in the garden?”
The village head used an old-fashioned method to temporarily wrap things up and the location for the match making moved to the courtyard.
*
A hunky man wearing a Hyottoko mask and a youthful beautiful lady were walking together in the courtyard. This scene was definitely difficult to describe.
“Haganezuka-san, you don’t really like to talk much, do you?”
“…….uh-huh.”
“I like men who are silent. It feels like they’re gentle and intelligent.”
“………………Is that so?”
“The next time, I’ll make Mitarashi dango and bring them to you.
“Thanks.”
Haganezuka still barely uttered a few words and his volume was strangely tiny, also, the contents of the conversation seemed to keep spinning around mitarashi dango. However, the atmosphere between the two could not be considered bad.
“This is a miracle, Kotetsu-boy.”
Kanamori lowered his voice even more to prevent themselves from blowing their cover, and at the same time, he made an action like he was wiping away tears.
“Haganezuka-san’s spring has finally arrived.”
“Ah, that girl actually proactively held his hand!! Oh, that Haganezuka-san is still squirming around, he’s just like an octopus!”
“Yeah, he’s shy, I suppose?”
“You call that shy?! That’s disgusting!”
“It is indeed disgusting but right now, we should be praying that this miracle can hold on until the end.”
Kanamori made the pose of a senior and spoke to Kotetsu in an even mannered tone.
Haganezuka and his potential partner got close to the tree the two were hiding behind. Kotetsu and Kanamori immediately held their breaths and shrank their bodies until they could not become any smaller.
The two stopped in their steps.
Then….
“—Haganezuka-san.”
The lady spoke in dead earnest.
“I have a request.”
Her tone was extremely serious as though she had made some kind of decision.
“ ………Ye, yes?”
Haganezuka was so nervous his shoulders stiffened up.
Was this finally the moment? The two sneaking a peek from their cover behind the tree both swallowed their saliva.
“After the chat we had just now, I have fully understood how high of a regard you hold for your sword smithing job, Haganezuka-san.”
“Is, is that so?”
Haganezuka’s voice suddenly became brighter. “However—” the lady continued to speak:
“Swords are already a thing of the past.”
The lady showed a pleasing smile.
“No one uses swords in this era already. So, why not make chef knives from now on, or even tools? I don’t wish for my dear husband to make barbaric objects such as swords.”
The lady said so in a straightforward manner and Haganezuka froze on the spot.
The two who were eavesdropping were also stunned….and the blood quickly drained from their faces.
“Crap!! This is bad!! She can’t say such a thing in front of Haganezuka-san!”
To that man – Haganezuka Hotaru – who loved swords more than anyone else, this was the most forbidden of forbidden statements.
In the worst-case scenario, he might even kill someone with his own hands.
Then the swordsmith village would be finished.
“Kotetsu-boy, if things go south, please take that woman and run. I will tickle Haganezuka-san’s armpits and use my utmost efforts to open a path for the two of you.”
“I understand. Kanamori-san, please do not die.”
Kotetsu and Kanamori became nervous.
Yet, after a long while, Haganezuka did not make any sound.
“Umm……Haganezuka-san?” Seeing that Haganezuka had quietly lowered his head, the woman opened her mouth to ask.
Then—
“….is someone.”
Haganezuka said in a whisper:
“There is someone using what you call barbaric swords, putting his life on the line to battle for the sake of people he does not even know.”
“………Eh?”
“Even if he was riddled with injuries, he continued to charge forward. No matter what kind of predicament he was facing, he still continued to fight without yielding. I am lucky I can make a sword that protects lives for that person. I am proud to be a blacksmith.”
“………………”
“Excuse me, please pretend this never happened.”
The woman could not speak.
A cold wind blew past between the two.
Haganezuka was very calm.
Even though the woman looked down on the swords he loved greatly, he did not scold her on impulse.
He only quietly rejected her.
The reason definitely involved his pride as a swordsmith as well as his bond with a certain Demon Slayer.
–Haganezuka’s matchmaking session quietly came to an end.
*
“Sigh, this is considered fate as well. Just try again next time.”
The village head was still optimistic.
“Let me see. Which girl should I choose this time~?”
He happily chose another matchmaking potential from a stack of photos.
“……forget it….I have my swords anyway….”
On the contrary, it had already been a few days since the end of the matching making session, but Haganezuka still lay on the tatami mats in a slovenly manner.
“You have a huge build, stop blocking the way. It’s annoying.”
Kotetsu retorted with his usual tone and then placed a plate full of Mitarashi Dango onto the table lightly.
“Here, Tanjirou-san sent Mitarashi Dango over again. Eat these and get your spirits back.”
“Yeah, Haganezuka. Isn’t it great that you can make swords for such a kind and caring Slayer? For a swordsmith, that is the greatest fortune.”
“Hmph, of course it’s something he should do….that guy did trample on my hard work.”
“Alright, stop making a fuss. Let me pour you some tea.”
Once he finished speaking, Kanamori poured tea into Haganezuka’s teacup.
“Wow, the tea stem is standing straight up. Haganezuka, this is a good omen.” Kanamori said happily. There really was a complete tea stem standing upright in the teacup.
“You definitely will be successful during the next matchmaking session.”
However, not long after the joyful moment, Haganezuka became angry for some peculiar reason.
“When the tea stem stands straight up, one has to secretly finish the entire cup! You have ruined it! How are you going to pay me back?!”
“Eh?!”
“If things don’t go well during the next matchmaking session I go for, it’s all your fault!! Take responsibility!”
That was far too unreasonable, wasn’t it? Kanamori could not help but be bewildered by the situation.
“….How did you raise such a rotten personality?”
Kanamori blamed the village head.
“Didn’t you say that he was almost forty so it has nothing to do with the way he was raised already?”
“I did say that but he’s ridiculous. If I had put it bluntly, he’s human scum!”
“It has nothing to do with me~”
Tecchin abandoned his responsibilities as the foster parent and turned away his face that was covered with a Hyokotto mask as though he was not part of the issue.
Kotetsu helplessly sighed under his mask.
(However….it’s not as though Haganezuka-san did not make any progress.)
Seeing how Haganezuka lectured the beautiful lady who looked down on swords, it made him delighted. It was too cool.
Those words were full of responsibility and honour as a swordsmith. As someone who was from this hidden village, from the same profession, Kotetsu could not help but feel deeply moved.
Getting to know that youth who believed in the sword he made and who entrusted his own life to him, could actually let this isolated man undergo such a huge change.
–Because of that.
(….Gods, when there is a day that Haganezuka-san can turn over a new leaf and rid himself of that rotten to the core personality of his, please bestow him with a gentle wife who can understand his love for swords.)
Even though that could be something that only happened many years later, Kotetsu still prayed within his heart that Haganezuka Hotaru can find his own spring–
(bo : manga readers know that he did 🙂)

───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Inosuke hated it when strangers stared at his face. In the family home of Tanjirou and Nezuko, which they now shared with Zenitsu and him, he was happy to go without his boar mask. But whenever they left for the nearby town to deliver charcoal, he would don his mask. It drew stares from the townspeople, some hostile, but most wary or scared. He didn’t care, as long as they were the ones, not him, who felt uneasy. Besides, Tanjirou was always with him, and Tanjirou could put those timid people at ease.
Life was a lot simpler and slow-moving with their demon-killing days behind them. Inosuke was sometimes bored. He missed the adrenaline rush from emerging victorious in a death-defying battle. Sometimes, he yearned for the unpredictability of living in the wilderness. But deep down, he knew he could never return to a life without his new family, especially Tanjirou. He had almost lost him once, and he never wanted to go through that ordeal again. As long as they were together, he would be content with any hand that life dealt. Provided he could continue being his masked and shirtless self.
But all this would soon have to change.
The Kobayashis were close family friends of the Kamados, and regular customers of their charcoal business. One day, Kobayashi regrettably informed Tanjirou that he would not be purchasing any more charcoal. He was retiring from his eatery business. However, he proposed that Tanjirou should inherit the eatery. Not having any children of his own, and being fond of the Kamado siblings, this was something he’d made up his mind about.
Decades ago, Kobayashi survived a demon attack, thanks to demon slayers who were passing through the town. In gratitude, Kobayashi and his wife used their establishment to house and feed demon slayers in need. Named “Wisteria Garden”, it had a small garden at the back where wisteria bloomed all year round. Tanjirou had baulked at the idea of such a hefty gift, but Kobayashi insisted that handing it down to former demon slayers could not be a more fitting arrangement.
Wisteria Garden was popular among the locals and visitors. Located in the heart of the town, it served ordinary but well-loved comfort food like udon, donburi and tempura. It was a cosy eatery that sat thirty, and diners could relax in the garden and admire the wisteria. When Inosuke first visited it, he felt right at home, and it didn’t take long for him and his friends to become regulars.
The owners were generous, often dishing out extra helpings and side dishes for free. In return for their kindness, Tanjirou and Nezuko would help out at the eatery on busy days.
Inosuke thought it would be a pity if such a nice eatery were to close down. He assured Tanjirou that he had his full support if he wanted to accept the Kobayashis’ offer. In any case, he didn’t care either way as long as he got to continue bossing his best friends around. If he could eat on the job, that was definitely a perk.
Zenitsu felt that this opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time. More people were switching to electricity, and charcoal burning may become obsolete. Food would never go out of date, though. Everyone has to eat.
Tanjirou had felt a little sad about giving up his family business of burning charcoal. But it did not feel right to deny his newfound family a better future. Burning charcoal was dangerous and strenuous work. After his recovery from the final battle, his left arm was never quite the same again. He had worked hard in the months after, and with the help of his best friends, regained some of his mobility. But Inosuke and Zenitsu had to do most of the heavy lifting, something he constantly apologised for, much to their chagrin. Moreover, Nezuko was of an age where she should enjoy her youth, wear pretty clothes and make friends with girls her age. Instead, she was spending her days running around the three of them and getting caked in soot. He had asked her to look for something else to do, but she didn't want to be away from him.
Cooking on the other hand was less physically demanding. It also brought him immense pleasure to see his friends enjoy his food. Nezuko was getting good at it too, so the both of them could handle the culinary responsibilities. He wasn’t sure how Zenitsu and Inosuke would fit in, but he was confident that they would manage. They have always worked well as a team.
“Let’s do it, nii-chan,” Nezuko looked at her brother with a determined expression on her face when Kobayashi brought up the matter again. And that sealed the deal.
*
Before they could become the eatery’s new owners, their suitability had to be assessed. Tanjirou and Nezuko’s culinary skills passed with flying colours. They could almost replicate the Wisteria Garden’s signature dishes. To improve, it was just a matter of practice. The real challenge came when they had a month-long on-the-job training to learn the ins and outs of managing the eatery.
The open-kitchen design gave a clear view of the kitchen over the countertop from the dining area. The four of them often watched the Kobayashis at work while they dined there. The couple made it look deceptively easy to run the eatery as a duo. They switched seamlessly between cooking, serving, cashiering, cleaning and chatting with customers.
Tanjirou and Nezuko had helped out in the kitchen before, so it didn’t take long for them to settle into their roles. They were even able to juggle extra responsibilities during the peak hours of lunch and dinner. Their pleasant demeanour and familiarity with the townspeople set customers at ease.
Zenitsu, too, adapted quickly. He was fast and accurate at taking orders and bringing orders to customers. He even found time to chat up the young female customers, though that soon stopped when he found himself on the receiving end of Nezuko’s stink eye.
But Inosuke, for the first time in seventeen years of his life, was horrified to discover that he had become the weakest link. Whenever he was in the dining area, his boar mask scared customers off, and the usually packed eatery would have lots of vacant seats. With too much free time on his hands, he would skulk around at the entrance, getting down on all fours at random to sniff around. This most definitely intimidated any potential customers. An exasperated Zenitsu told him to stop doing that, but Inosuke argued that he had to protect their new home from suspicious people.
“Nobody looks more suspicious than you!” Zenitsu cried.
Inosuke knew the mask would be a problem. Whenever he ate there, Mrs Kobayashi would nicely but firmly request that Inosuke put his boar mask away, even if he was just standing in the queue. It would scare the other customers, especially the children, she explained. Inosuke would reluctantly obey for the food. But now, he wasn’t here to eat. He was here to feed these fools, and damn them if they had a problem with his mask.
When Inosuke worked in the kitchen, business picked up. But it was not constructive. Inosuke was much more interested in eating than helping. This made Tanjirou and Nezuko busier than ever. They had to fix his misshapenly cut ingredients, sweep up cutlery that he broke while washing them, and cook faster than he could steal food. He knew he should exercise self-restraint. But how could he, when he was constantly surrounded by mouth-watering smells of freshly-cooked comfort food? Ever patient and nice, the siblings would smile and say it was quite all right, even thanking him for the confidence boost. But Inosuke felt bad, not to mention, constrained and useless in a kitchen that had no place for his talents.
Kobayashi tried to console him by offering other options. He could do other jobs, like build relationships with the suppliers, or manage the accounts. The job scopes for both made zero sense to him, so they became Tanjirou’s and Zenitsu’s responsibilities.
Zenitsu was far less charitable with his patience. He would not hesitate to chastise Inosuke whenever he was out of line.
As the week wore on with little improvement, Inosuke had on one occasion impetuously said that he would go back to his old home in the mountains. This was vehemently shot down by everyone, to his secret delight and relief.
“I know it’s hard on you,” Tanjirou put a comforting hand on his shoulder. “But you’re very important to us and we’ll give you all the time you need to adapt. If you still feel that this is not for you, you can do something else if you want, even go back to selling charcoal. But the four of us are a family and we should not be separated by something trivial like this.”
“Yea, sorry, I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. I’ll be more patient,” Zenitsu promised.
*
By the second week, Zenitsu’s patience wore thin again. The entire town had gotten wind of the news that a group of youngsters was taking over the town’s favourite eatery. They all wanted to ascertain for themselves that these kids were up to the task. It was a struggle for the inexperienced team to cope. Once again, he nagged at Inosuke over breakfast.
“It’s the boar mask. All you have to do is take it off, and you can work in the front. It’s a lot more fun than being in the kitchen, I promise.”
“Zenitsu,” Nezuko said, a hint of disapproval in her voice.
“I mean, don’t you think it’s a pity? He has such a good-looking face. If I had a face like that, I’d make sure every girl in this town and the next town see it.”
“Then it’s a good thing that you look ordinary,” Nezuko deadpanned.
Ignoring Zenitsu’s protests that she’d misunderstood him, she turned to Inosuke. “It really is a shame. You are so handsome, that’s why people like looking at you. Why would you hide your face for that?”
“You could make your face useful, become our poster boy and draw the customers in,” Zenitsu chimed in. “You see, Nezuko-chan? That’s what I meant. Attracting customers, not picking up girls. Heh.”
“And give the stupid townspeople more reason to stare at my face?” Inosuke hated the idea.
“Nezuko-chan gets plenty of stares and compliments too. I think it’s fine if they aren’t creepy about it. Even I get stared at, but it turns out that people just want to know why my hair is yellow. I wish pretty girls would look at me and compliment me.”
“Well, it’s just as I thought,” Nezuko remarked dryly.
“That was a joke! Having Nezuko-chan look at me is more than I can wish for!”
Inosuke replaced his boar mask firmly over his head. He twirled his finger around his empty plate, annoyed that his friends couldn’t empathise with him.
“Nezuko’s a girl, so it’s different.” He knew it was a nonexplanation, but it was hard to make them understand.
“We’ve talked about this,” Tanjirou said as he walked into the dining room. “Let’s not make Inosuke do what he doesn’t like.”
Thank goodness, Inosuke thought. Tanjirou is finally here to put a stop to this pointless conversation.
“Everybody has a different threshold for comfort. It doesn’t matter what Nezuko and you think, Zenitsu. Just because you both can put up with being stared at, it doesn’t mean Inosuke can do the same.”
Inosuke jumped up from his chair.
“What do you mean by that?! How dare you belittle me!” Inosuke pointed a shaking finger at Tanjirou. “I’ll show you what I can do, and I’ll do it better than any of you!”
He pulled off his boar mask and slammed it down on the dining table, to everyone’s astonishment.
“I’m not challenging you!” Tanjirou tried to explain.
But Inosuke had run to the door, maskless and yelling that the last person out of the house would wash all the dishes.
*
When Inosuke wore a smile, albeit a very forced one, instead of a boar mask, the customers were at ease. It was yet another busy day at the eatery.
The lunch crowd made Inosuke nervous as always, but he was a man on a mission, and he willed himself to focus. With so much to do, he didn’t have long to dwell on his discomfort from his naked face, or his uniform. At least he was permitted to wear only the haori with hakama pants. The standard uniform top consisted of an inner shirt, a haori and an apron over it all. His three friends had been wearing this without complaint since day one. He would never tell them this, but he envied their tolerance and couldn’t imagine how they could willingly suffer in it for hours. Wasn’t it hot and stuffy, especially for Tanjirou, who spent more time than anyone else in the kitchen?
But their head chef seemed perfectly happy, even humming tunelessly as he managed multiple stoves by himself. Nezuko would usually help him. Today, she was held up at the front by a group of foreign-looking people in funny clothes, who spoke a language Inosuke had never heard before. Zenitsu said they were wearing suits and were likely from abroad from the Western part of the world. Spending a couple of years as a non-speaking demon had made Nezuko very good at communicating with hand signs.
Oh well, Tanjirou would manage just fine. He could always be trusted with anything he set his mind on. Inosuke was determined not to lose. Tanjirou counted on him for many things. He mustn’t let his favourite underling think that he’s an unreliable boss.
He knew exactly what he had to do. He’s watched Zenitsu do it for the past few days, and there’s absolutely no reason he couldn’t do what Zenitsu’s capable of. Since it was officially his first day, he performed easier tasks like clearing the tables and bringing the dirty dishes to the kitchen. With a bit more patience and focus, he was able to avoid breaking anything while washing them. He gained more confidence, and soon he was weaving in and out of the kitchen with a growing spring in his step. His dexterity and strength came in handy to balance the heavy trays of dishes.
Maybe he actually had a gift for this! Or maybe he’s just awesome and talented and nothing’s beyond his abilities.
But for all his self-affirmations, it had been a long time since Inosuke was in close vicinity of many strangers. Feeling overwhelmed, he ran into the kitchen to catch his breath and steal some moments of tranquillity. A few bowls of udon sat on the kitchen counter waiting to be served. He felt his stomach rumble. He’d been working his muscles and brain hard for the past hour. But no, he swore he would do better than his friends, so he absolutely must resist eating any of the customers’ food.
Tanjirou hunched over a bowl of tempura in a corner of the kitchen, shaking out condiments over it. Inosuke figured it would be fine to seek his attention for a bit since he wasn’t doing anything dangerous like cooking or cutting. He made a beeline for him and grabbed his haori sleeve, like he always did when he was anxious or stressed. He could feel some of the tension leave his body.
Tanjirou turned to face him. “How are you feeling?”
“Fine,” Inosuke mumbled. He was feeling a whole mixed bag of emotions, so it was simply easier to say that he was fine. After all, he would be fine. There’s nothing he can’t handle.
“I was watching you earlier. You did amazing! I can’t believe it’s your first time doing this,” Tanjirou said with a smile that made him feel warm and fuzzy inside. Inosuke used to think these sensations were strange. Now they filled him with gusto for another hour at the literal battlefield out front.
“Of course!” Inosuke grinned. He straightened his back and thumped his chest with a fist, “You can always count on me!”
Tanjirou beamed at him. “I know!” Then he said, “I’ve got something for you, open your mouth!”
Inosuke obeyed, and Tanjirou fed him a piece of tempura.
“Mmm!” Inosuke responded through a mouthful of crispy, freshly-fried tempura. It was just the right temperature and airiness.
“Is it good?”
He nodded enthusiastically.
“You can have the whole bowl, I made it just for you,” Tanjirou held up the large bowl of tempura.
Inosuke looked at the tempting tempura, and then at the bowls of udon waiting to be served. Nothing could please him more right now than to indulge in his favourite food while watching his favourite person in the world being happy. But he had to prioritise.
“I must get back to work, but I’ll be back for those! Wait for me!”
He swept up the udon bowls onto a tray and dashed out to the battlefield before he could regret his decision.
With Tanjirou’s hourly encouragement and tempura (kept in a preheated oven to stay warm and crispy), Inosuke survived his first official full work day at the Wisteria Garden.
“This is more tiring than pillar training,” Inosuke sat slumped over a table as his friends bustled around him closing the shop.
“You’ll get used to it,” Tanjirou smiled. “You did a great job. We couldn’t have managed today’s crowd without you.”
Inosuke glowed with pride. For the first time in a while, he felt that he had secured his place among his friends in this strange little town. “Ha! Told you not to belittle me.”
“Let’s see if you can keep it up for the rest of the week and more,” Zenitsu quipped.
“Of course I can!”
“Get up and help then,” Zenitsu smacked him on the shoulder. “Unlike you, we don’t have hourly snack breaks.”
“Don’t boss me around! Did you hear what Tanjirou said? I saved the day. You guys couldn’t manage without me!” Inosuke said haughtily.
“Back to your cocky self huh? I wonder who it was who got all depressed days ago and said he would go back to his old home in the mountains,” Zenitsu smirked.
Inosuke ignored him, but he got up and joined Tanjirou and Nezuko in the kitchen to help with washing up.
*
On their way back to their home, they stopped by a store that sold all sorts of things from soy sauce to sweets to brooms. The shop owner was a friendly older woman who often chatted with Tanjirou, Nezuko and Zenitsu, and avoided looking at Inosuke. He preferred it that way. But today, she kept watching him as he tailed behind Tanjirou, and it was starting to get under his skin. When Tanjirou brought his shopping to the counter, she finally spoke up, “Who’s that new friend of yours, Tanjirou? I feel like I’ve met him before but I can’t place a finger on it.”
Tanjirou stared at her, momentarily confused. He looked behind him and realised who she was referring to.
“Oh, but you’ve met him many times! It’s Inosuke, you know, the one with the boar mask.”
The woman clapped her hands together in astonishment. Addressing Inosuke, she exclaimed, “You look completely different from what I was expecting! I didn’t think it was you at all. Haha. You shouldn’t wear the head. You look a lot better like this.”
Inosuke wasn’t sure what to respond. Who was she to tell him what to wear anyway?
Perhaps realising she had been rude, the woman offered him a freshly-made batch of gyoza. Inosuke accepted the peace offering and was pleased to find that it was delicious.
Tanjirou thanked her and insisted on paying for it, but she waved off his offer. “You’ve already helped me with this and that. Just give me more spring onions or something at your eatery next time.”
If not wearing a mask meant that people would offer him free food, he wouldn’t mind taking advantage of this, Inosuke thought.
“Do you all want some too? I can make more,” she asked, when she realised that Inosuke had emptied the entire plate and left nothing for his friends.
“Oh no thank you, we already had dinner. He’s a bottomless pit,” Zenitsu said.
After they left the store, Zenitsu complained, “That woman is so shallow, I bet she gave him free food because she likes his face.”
“I don’t think she was being shallow. It’s human nature to warm up to someone once they realise he isn’t as threatening as they thought,” Tanjirou said.
“Actually, the people here are really nice and generous once they get to know you!” Nezuko explained. “When nii-chan delivered charcoal, they would ply him with free food. Once, he came back with such a big bag that Mother made him go back and return it all!”
Tanjirou nodded fondly at the memory. “Mother said food didn’t come easy so we shouldn’t take advantage of other people’s kindness. ”
No wonder Tanjirou’s so insistent on repaying people, Inosuke thought. He’d always found it a bit silly since Tanjirou always did things for others without wanting anything in return. If his mother knew this, maybe she’d be less hard on him.
Zenitsu was unconvinced. “I suppose we’ll have to teach Inosuke about stranger danger. If he’s going to accept free food from random strangers, which will happen more since people these days are so shallow, he’ll get into all sorts of trouble.”
“Huh? I took it because I can sense that she’s not a bad person, even if she annoys me. I’m not stupid!” Inosuke snapped.
“I sure hope so,” Zenitsu’s voice dripped with so much scepticism that Inosuke concluded he must be itching for a beating.
“Don’t run so fast, you might get a stitch!” Tanjirou warned, but Inosuke was already hot on the heels of a screaming Zenitsu.
*
As the days went by, Inosuke realised that he enjoyed working at the Wisteria Garden. It was a nice change from the monotony of burning charcoal. On particularly hectic days, orders ticked off at lightning speed. It was fun and challenging to stay ahead of the game through speed, agility and mental acuity, all the strengths that he was proud of. He relished the exhilaration that came with the completion of each hourly shift. After which, he would enjoy Tanjirou’s special treat, made just for him as a reward.
He’s such a fast learner and an exemplary worker that he’s moved on to taking customers’ orders. Having eaten every dish several times, he knew the entire menu from back to front. Despite not learning to read it, he was able to match the orders seamlessly, and give recommendations to indecisive customers.
He still didn’t like interacting with the customers much. They kept asking him questions about the menu. He recognised some of them and knew they’d eaten here several times. There was no excuse for them to be unfamiliar with the menu, unless they had awful memories. Zenitsu explained that they were using the menu as an excuse to chat him up. He found this seriously annoying. It messed up his momentum and made him lose to Zenitsu in their “who completed more orders” challenges. But Nezuko said customers were usually right. So he would answer their questions as politely as he could manage if they didn’t give him too much trouble. He’s a good boss and he should set an example for his underlings.
Increasingly, he felt less bothered going out and about without his boar mask. It was carefully stored away in a cupboard that Tanjirou made just for him, together with other precious mementoes like the loin cloth with his name on it.
The training came to an end and the Kobayashis were pleased to hand over the keys to the Wisteria Garden. Kobayashi said they were welcome to ask for help anytime. Not that he thought it would be necessary. He said they were the most diligent, resourceful and sensible youngsters he had ever met. He was sure they would fare well on their own.
“We’re starting a new phase of our lives tomorrow. We should go and pray for blessings!” Nezuko suggested.
They made their way to the shrine at the outskirt of the town. Inosuke had visited a few times, but he could never quite remember the ritual to ask for blessings. It involved something like taking a deep bow, throwing a coin, and clapping hands together twice. Or was it thrice? Nezuko was happy to walk him through the whole process again. Inosuke made the same wish that he always did - that the four of them would always lead a blessed and carefree life together.
Visitors started crowding the usually peaceful shrine grounds just as they were leaving. There was to be a festival at the shrine, and tourists from out of town were expected.
Inosuke was dismayed to find the crowd growing denser as they headed further out. His stomach churned with anxiety. He hated crowds. People jostled past them and he got elbowed several times. Ahead was a literal sea of people packed shoulder to shoulder. Compulsively, he grabbed the edge of Tanjirou’s haori sleeve and squeezed it in his palm.
“Nezuko-chan, stay close to me. I’ll protect you,” Zenitsu stood close behind Nezuko. He raised his arms around her, so that his haori sleeves formed a protective barrier between her and the crowd. Together, they plodded through the throng of people.
“Inosuke,” Tanjirou whispered. Inosuke jumped. Having people speak into his ear was something he was still trying to get accustomed to without his boar hide as a barrier.
“Sorry, want to hold hands?”
“Huh?”
“So we don’t get separated.”
Inosuke felt Tanjirou’s hand press against his. Reflexively, he squeezed it back.
Tanjirou’s warm, callused hand was so much more comforting than the cool, floppy haori fabric. The dull ache in his stomach left, replaced by the warm and fuzzy feelings that Tanjirou always made him feel, but with greater intensity than before. His heart raced. It reminded him of the thrill from scoring a win, or the buzz from eating as much as he wanted of his favourite food. They were still in the crowd, making slow and steady progress. But he had stopped hearing the noisy chatter of the crowd, stopped feeling the stuffiness and claustrophobia. All he could feel was Tanjirou’s hand against his own, and their close proximity to each other.
All too soon, they emerged unscathed. Tanjirou released his hand and praised him, “That was some crowd. But you did really well to stay calm!” Tanjirou gave him a radiant smile that set his heart aflutter once more.
Calm? Inosuke thought he was anything but calm. His heart was a palpitating mess. He was sure Zenitsu would hear it, but Zenitsu was busy fussing over Nezuko.
Tanjirou continued walking, and Inosuke followed. The street was no longer crowded, but Inosuke’s hand felt empty and uncomfortable. He wanted to feel Tanjirou’s strong palm in his own. Even if it drove his heart into overdrive. What can he say? He’s a born fighter and he craved a good adrenaline rush.
He reached out and grabbed Tanjirou’s hand.
“Inosuke?” Tanjirou whispered, surprise evident in his voice.
Inosuke interlaced their fingers. He could feel his face grow warm, and that was rather nice in this cool Autumn season. Zenitsu always raved to him at length about wanting to hold Nezuko’s hand. He couldn’t understand what the fuss was from his friend’s babbling, but now he did. He should have tried this long ago.
“Inosuke, are you nervous?”
“Yes! I mean, no! I’m the king of the mountains. Nothing unsettles me!” Inosuke said. He’s glad he’s better at lying than Tanjirou was.
“Right.” Tanjirou seemed satisfied with the answer and they continued walking in silence.
Ah damnit, Tanjirou could smell emotions, couldn’t he? He had said he wouldn’t go out of the way to do it because it was intrusive. But if Inosuke could smell or hear emotions like his friends could, he would want to know how Tanjirou felt at this moment. Sure, he had excellent senses, but deciphering the signals was something he still grappled with.
Did Tanjirou like holding hands as much as he did? He must be happy because he had a placid smile on his face. Inosuke could feel Tanjirou’s pulse throbbing harder than earlier, so he must be pretty excited too. Maybe they could have a contest - to see who could make each other’s heart race faster.
Zenitsu’s voice disrupted his thoughts. “Anyone get the feeling that we’re being stared at?”
Inosuke suddenly realised he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings at all. Luckily this town was peaceful. It would be folly if there was an enemy on the prowl.
He looked around him. Zenitsu was quite right. People were staring, with unpleasant expressions on their faces. He had the feeling that these people weren’t just looking at his face.
“Why are you both holding hands?” Zenitsu yelped, his wide eyes fixed on their intertwined hands.
“Oh it was crowded just now, I didn’t want us to get separated,” Tanjirou said.
“It’s not crowded anymore,” Zenitsu pointed out.
“You’re right,” Tanjirou loosened his grip, but Inosuke didn’t let go. Zenitsu raised an eyebrow.
“I like holding hands. Got a problem with that?” Inosuke said defiantly.
Zenitsu looked taken aback, but he quickly recovered. “Personally not, but look around, do you see any grown-ups holding hands?”
Inosuke looked. No, he didn’t. He also noticed more stares now, which made him feel uncomfortable. But Tanjirou’s hand felt really nice in his.
“I don’t. So what?”
“Only couples hold hands. Even then, it’s not good manners to display affection in public, especially in small towns like this one.”
“That’s lame!” Inosuke bristled. Why does this stupid town have so many rules? First, he can’t wear his mask. Then, he can’t go shirtless. Now they want to stop him from holding Tanjirou’s hand too? Nope, not happening.
“It’s fine, it’s just holding hands. Don’t make a fuss, Zenitsu,” Tanjirou patted Inosuke’s shoulder soothingly, although his own face was going a deeper pink.
Feeling emboldened, Inosuke declared, “I like holding Tanjirou’s hand. I’m not letting go!”
Zenitsu rolled his eyes. “If you want to be lovey-dovey with each other, wait till you get home!”
“We’re not-” Tanjirou began, but Inosuke bellowed, “Stop telling me what to do!”
Zenitsu sighed. Inosuke noticed that more people were staring now after his outburst. He felt the knot in his stomach tighten, and he gripped Tanjirou’s hand harder. Tanjirou squeezed his hand back. The knot eased a little.
Nezuko had been watching the exchange in pensive silence. She piped up, “Let’s all hold hands and walk together!”
Zenitsu gave her an incredulous look, but Tanjirou’s face lit up at her suggestion.
“Oh yes, when we were small, we’d all hold hands and walk in a circle around Mother when we were in town. It was the best way to not get lost on market day.”
“What? No, I don’t want to do that. What are we? Three?” Zenitsu scoffed.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” Nezuko said with a huff. She moved closer to Inosuke and took his free hand in hers.
“Is this fine for you?” She beamed up at him.
Inosuke nodded. Nezuko’s hand was warm, small and soft. It’s a nice hand, and holding it gave him a pleasant feeling. But it wasn’t quite comparable to the excitement he got from squeezing Tanjirou’s hand. Nezuko’s hand was dainty, and he’s afraid he might hurt her if he squeezed it, so he tried not to. Which was just as well, because Zenitsu was glaring so hard at their loosely-gripped hands, he thought his eyes might pop right out of their sockets if he did.
“Why does Inosuke get to hold Nezuko-chan’s hand?!! I haven’t even touched her hand!!! This isn’t fair!!! I want to hold Nezuko-chan’s hand too!!!” Zenitsu’s shrill screaming reverberated through the street.
Even the people who had walked past them turned back to glare at his public spectacle.
“You said it’s childish to hold hands,” Nezuko turned her nose up at Zenitsu’s trembling proffered hand.
“I’m sorry Nezuko-chan!!! I didn’t think that when you said hold hands, you’d actually want to hold my hand!!! Please forgive me!!! Don’t make me walk alone!!!”
“Here, you can hold my other hand,” Tanjirou laughed.
“I don’t want your hand!!! I want Nezuko-chan’s!!!”
After several more apologies and self-admonishments from Zenitsu, Nezuko thrust her free hand to him with a giggle.
Zenitsu cried in relief and cradled her palm against his face.
“Nezuko-chan’s hand is so soft and nice!”
Nezuko pulled her hand away and tapped him on the head.
“Hold my hand properly or you don’t get to hold it!”
“Sorry Nezuko-chan!” he interlaced their fingers and gave her hand a squeeze, a foolish grin on his face. Nezuko looked away, her face bright pink.
“Does this mean I can hold your hand again next time, Nezuko-chan?”
“I’ll think about it,” Nezuko said loftily, although her eyes sparkled in a way that Inosuke had never seen before.
Not to be outdone, he turned to Tanjirou, “Can I hold your hand again next time?”
“Eh?” Tanjirou had been grinning at Nezuko and Zenitsu’s antics, and the question caught him off guard.
“Can I hold-”
“I heard you. Um, you can, if it makes you happy.”
Tanjirou lowered his eyes, so Inosuke couldn’t see if they sparkled. He actually seemed flustered, if anything. Tanjirou’s usually calm and collected. Sometimes he got mad, sometimes he was sad, and sometimes, he was frightened or worried, but he always seemed to know what to do next. Flustered Tanjirou was new to him. If he could make Tanjirou flustered, that’s a good thing right? Zenitsu was frequently flustered around Nezuko.
“Are you nervous?” Inosuke asked.
“No!” Tanjirou said, his ears turning beetroot red.
Inosuke smirked. As always, Tanjirou’s awful at lying.
The four of them walked together, hand in hand, swinging their arms gaily.
Some passersby looked on disapprovingly, but others cracked a smile. A group of children even mimicked them.
They were definitely attracting a lot of of attention now. But Zenitsu had such a dazed and silly look on his face, Inosuke doubted that he was bothered at all. He couldn’t see his own face, but his cheeks ached from smiling, and he hoped he didn’t look as idiotic as his friend did.
“Getting stared at isn’t so bad right?” Nezuko asked him.
Inosuke agreed with her.
*
They walked up the mountain path that led to home, leaving behind the town and the stares.
Somewhere along the way, Nezuko wanted to re-tie her hair, so the little group split up. Zenitsu went ahead to pick flowers for Nezuko to put in her hair. When he came back to her, she was watching Tanjirou and Inosuke, who walked together some way behind.
“They’re still holding hands?!” he exclaimed.
She put a finger to her lips and shushed him with a knowing smile.

Author Notes: Thanks for reading my first-ever fanfiction after a several-year-long hiatus! This Author's Note is long since it's my first one after like, a decade. I’m sorry if my writing is rusty. I do write a lot for work, but it’s non-creative writing, and I think it shows. But InoTan is too fun, so I had to try. I must profess that my experience working in the Food and Beverage industry is severely limited. But I love restaurant games, and I was picturing the main four flailing around as Overcooked characters while writing this. After I read the manga ending, I desperately wanted sweet cinnamon roll Tanjirou to have the fluffiest happily ever after ending. It saddens me that such a selfless and gentle person has to go through so much, so I just wanted to write fluffy fics with him being my definition of happy. Although Tanjirou’s my favourite character, I enjoyed writing about him through Inosuke’s POV. Inosuke went through significant character growth throughout the canon storyline. I imagine that 2 years after the main story ends, he would become more mature, more aware and able to face up to his feelings and understand emotions. He would get his friends’ names correct, but at the same time, retain some of his impetuous and competitive nature. He would still see his friends as underlings, in an “I'm your boss and I'll protect you” kind of way. He would still be highly sensitive to and easily stimulated by touch, such as hand holding and pulse rates, since that’s his strongest sense. This story has nothing to do with the song “Stares in this Town” by Ramones. I was just googling for inspiration for a title along the theme of staring, and this came up. That said, I read the lyrics and if they’re taken at face value, I think it might be a rather accurate reflection of Inosuke’s mindset in this story. Feeding scenes are cute, as are scenes with Inosuke grabbing Tanjirou’s clothes for stress relief. These were my simple motivations for writing the scene of Tanjirou feeding tempura to Inosuke :D
Inosuke made the same wish that he always did - that the four of them would always lead a blessed and carefree life together. I thought this would be the sort of thing Inosuke would wish for since he’s a simple person, and of course, they would all completely deserve it. 🥹 Also, the first time they visit a shrine together, I bet they have to stop Inosuke from scaling the bell rope 😂 This excerpt was my first attempt at writing an Inotan hand-holding scene! I felt it couldn’t be atypically romantic, but it should be comfortable at least. Tanjirou would take the initiative, but Inosuke would continue with it after realising how good it feels.
He wanted to feel Tanjirou’s strong palm in his own. Even if it drove his heart into overdrive. What can he say? He’s a born fighter and he craved a good adrenaline rush.
I had to make some references to Inosuke’s competitive nature. Likening hand-holding to a fight might be as romantic as Inosuke gets :D
I loved writing the group hand-holding scene. I enjoyed having sassy Nezuko take the initiative. Despite Zenitsu proclaiming his crush on Nezuko to everyone, I think he'd be afraid of making an actual move due to past failed experiences with girls. He doesn't want to make a mistake and scare her away. As for Inosuke, he's a quick learner and I'm sure he picks up a lot from watching Zenitsu and Nezuko flirt with each other. Also, I just love the adorable image of the four of them holding hands and marching gaily through the town. It would be even cuter if they sang, but Inosuke and Tanjirou might get kicked out of the town for creating sound pollution, so that wouldn't be a good idea!
My headcanon tells me that Inosuke would take pleasure in making Tanjirou feel flustered because he sees it as a sign of weakness. In a way, he feels a sense of pride in being able to elicit such a response from Tanjirou and seeing him vulnerable.
Thank you for reading! If my fic made you smile, it’d really make my day if you could drop a like, reblog, and/or comment to let me know! This story is also published on AO3 where you can comment anonymously!

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood ft. KNY characters
If you know FMAB growing up, I salute you. If you are going to watch it now, I also salute you. Anyway, let's proceed. In response to this poll
In their sincerest hopes to see their dearly beloved deceased mother again, Tanjirou and Nezuko aimed to do what was considered as "Taboo" in Alchemy, that is "Human Transmutation."
Being kids, they believed they could resurrect Kie, who had fallen ill and died because of an outbreak. (Imagine all their siblings too but chose to revive Kie first)
However, they experienced "rebound" and because of that, Nezuko's entire body was taken, while Tanjirou lost his left leg, and cried out in extreme pain and anguish. But, determined to get even Nezuko's soul back, he sacrificed his right arm so he could attach her soul to an armour.
I somehow want Kanao to be their childhood friend aka Winry.
Shinobu as Pinako is funny, but just imagine if Shinobu took the responsibility to take care of Kanao after their older sister Kanae, who was a doctor, was sent to battle and died there.
Tanjirou lowkey being so guilty about what happened to Nezuko that he was so afraid to ask her if she is mad at him. [THAT EPISODE BROKE ME. Just Kanao smashing Nezuko's armored head with a wrench and telling her to run after Tanjirou is peak drama and comedy]
I'm conflicted if I should continued as intended that Tanjurou is their dad in this au as well. Because I just can't see him having the same face as the main antagonist aka "Father". But it's also a big fucking no for "Father" to be Muzan. Yoriichi as Father is TERRIFYING tho.
Obanai as Roy Mustang please it's so funny. But he did give Tanjirou a drive and a motivation to get their bodies back.
Mitsuri as Riza Hawkeye. She hides all her trauma with her personality but Mitsuri being a sniper in the Battle of Ishbal would just be peak 👌 angst.
Rengoku Kyojurou as Maes Hughes. He often comically and enthusiastically tells Obanai to find a wife and marry already (aka marry Mitsuri) and Kyojurou is proud of his little brother Senjurou. He tells everyone about him, and dots on him. He's very kind and warm towards anyone and everyone he meets.
Everything was okay until he found out too quickly, about what was happening in the country. He was too smart for his own good. He was attacked first by Lust aka Daki, but escaped.
DOUMA as Envy would make so much sense. His playful personality when he impersonates a colleague of Rengoku, but Rengoku quickly realizes it isn't them. Rengoku was hastily trying to contact Obanai to tell him of what he found out, but unfortunately this creature finds him. Rengoku whispered that he has to go home and he can't die here, and was about to attack the creature, but Douma had transformed to mimic his mother, Ruka, who Douma had seen from the lone pic that fell from Rengoku's wallet in his haste to contact Obanai. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. THE THREE GUNSHOTS.
Obanai sighing when he received a phone call, but quickly felt something was off because Rengoku rarely pauses and stay silent that long. "Kyojuro?" He asks.
Rengoku's bloody hand reaching out to the phone because he heard his best friend, but Douma had already placed it back to cut the call.
"Humans are so stupid, falling for such a trick." He mocks and insults him, laughing as he left.
Rengoku, bleeding out, whispering, "Sorry, Senjurou, I can't go home tonight as promised.
JUST TINY SENJUROU (younger than canon), CLUTCHING ON THEIR DAD'S PANTS, innocently asking, "Why are they burying big brother...? How can he go to work if they bury him?" Everyone was devastated
Obanai silent throughout.
After the funeral, JUST OBANAI SAYING, "Ah, It's about to rain".
Mitsuri looking up at the sky. "Eh? It's not raining..." Then she quickly realizes what Obanai meant when he started crying.
"No, it's raining, alright." Obanai adds, and Mitsuri bows her head, and in a sad voice, seconds him.
"Ah.. yes, it's raining... Let's go inside, it'll be cold here soon..."
WHO WILL BE NINA???? AND ALEXANDER???
Daki as LUST as mentioned above. Gyutaro as GLUTTONY. It just goes along well with how those two are close with Douma aka ENVY.
AKAZA as WRATH. he's a king of a nation that already has everything decided for it. Except his bride, Koyuki, who he chose himself.
AKAZA AS KING BRADLEY (and how his hand shookt in anger during rengoku's funeral) he has this twisted view that the weak will inevitably die in the hands of the strong.
KOKUSHIBOU AS PRIDE. Him parading as a tiny child (of course he poses as a human, the son of the king. But he is INDEED DEADLIER, STRONGER than Wrath.) is just so funny. Except he won't be as energetic as Selim Bradley, probably just always curious and "idolizes" the Fullmetal Alchemist aka Tanjirou. THE FIRST SIN THAT FATHER LETS GO OF.
MUICHIROU AS LING YAO. He visits this foreign country looking for a philosopher's stone. He is the representative of their clan because his older brother can't fight like him (added this info). In order to save his clan, he wants to gain information about immortality. He came to the country with his two vassals, Zenitsu (LAN FAN but they're just buddies) and Jigoro (OLD MAN FU), who came from a family that had been serving his for centuries. They're very loyal to him. Muichirou often stresses them out though. HAHAHAHA
Just imagine Mui and co. mooching off food from Tanjirou and Nezuko HAHAHAHAHA
"i cAn'T uNdErsTanD tHiS CouNtRy'S lAnGuagE" whenever he placed the siblings or himself in trouble HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
Mui collapsing on the side of the road and forgetting his entry pass and being sent to jail is PEAK COMEDY
HIM HAVING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A KING WITH AKAZA THOUGH. While holding an injured zenitsu over his shoulders. OH MY GOD.
Zenitsu sacrificing his hand for them to escape is just wow. If Jigoro is Old Man Fu, he would die. Ouch. (I initially thought of genya as lan fan and sanemi as old man fu but I had plans for sanemi)
So that means Muichirou will be GREED.
INOSUKE WILL BE MEI LING.
Giyuu will be Izumi, Tanjirou and Nezuko's sensei. As seen with his Kimetsu Academy counterpart, his training would be HELL. I'd like to say he is married to Sabito (HE'S ALIVE, SABITO WILL BE SIG). They were living well before Giyuu's sister inexplicably died, and he tried to revive her with alchemy. He had seen the Truth as well.
Sloth will just be GYOMEI TO GIVE A THRILL WITH THE FIGHT. But instead of the sloth in fmab, imagine if Gyomei isn't really evil, but was forced to do what he has to, or else the children he was caring for would die (or something)
Tengen???????? (OR ANY OF HIS WIVES AS Olivier Mira Armstrong???? I JUST THINK TENGEN'S INITIAL PERSONALITY TOWARDS TANJIROU AND CO WOULD BE LMAO)
UROKODAKI AS MARCO.
I CAN'T THINK WHO WILL BE SCAR. SANEMI CAME TO MIND I'M SO SORRY.
When Mui and Tanjirou got sucked in Gluttony's stomach and lmao at tanjirou finding Nezuko's armor hand and going, "TIME FOR MY TELEPATHIC POWERS TO AWAKEN, KAMADO TELEPATHY OHHHHH NEZUKO HEAR ME!!!" and Muichirou deadpan going, "have fun with that"
They would eat BOOT SOUP
Fast forward to all the dramas
Obanai going lowkey insane with finding out who killed Rengoku. He finds Douma and Douma congratulates him on finally finding Rengoku's killer.
Obanai scoffing, "I doubt Kyojurou was killed by someone dumb like you."
Douma going all laughter, saying, "Stupid? What's stupid is people who would fall for this!!!" Then he transforms into Ruka or Senjurou.
Oh the way Obanai's look changed and Mitsuri instantly knew hell would start.
Mitsuri pointing a gun to Obanai's head on the onslaught of happenings and Obanai raising his hand, "What's this about, Lieutenant?"
Mitsuri smiling knowingly, "You tell me. The colonel calls me ~Mitsuri~ when we're alone."
Obanai widens his eyes and instantly reveals himself as Envy and says, "You had a thing going on?!"
Mitsuri smiling, shooting him, "I lied. Thanks for falling for it."
She tried to kill him but is soon overpowered.
Douma laughs, exclaiming, "I will rip you to shreds and show you to your precious colonel!"
But then Obanai arrives.
Obanai going, "what are you planning on doing with my irreplaceable subordinate?" to douma is peak 👌👌👌 when the latter started targeting mitsuri (their other counterpart where douma is a con artist but disappeared after meeting mitsuri and/or obanai is so funny)
Anyway just their heartfelt moment of "If you die, I'll follow"
FAST FORWARD MORE
Obanai going, "I'm surprised you can see in this darkness, fullmetal" because his one eye is already canonically almost blind BUT HIM GOING FORCEFULLY COMPLETELY BLIND HURTS ME.
I'm so obsessed with them. But that's all for now.

Chapter 4: Show me what you can do!
The two opposites continued chatting until the meeting started, each hashira bowing before master ubuyashiki. He smiled and his wife Amane looked over them and smiled.
“Is everyone here?” He started, amane nodded, “Yes Master, they are.” Kagaya hummed, “Good afternoon, my children. Today we bring in a new hashira, one I have not come across in all my years. The technique of Snow Breathing. Ms Chiminosa.”
I sat up and moved forward next to Amane, my heart beating loudly in my chest. Kyojurou and Yuri were smiling brightly, Tengen giving a thumbs up. “The snow breather will not be taking any tsugoku’s until 5 months promoted as hashira.” I nodded slowly as my stomach cramped with knots of nervousness.
The meeting practically sped by and before long? We were dismissed. I walked down the steps, my heart fluttering in nervousness. “Glad to see you’ve been promoted.” I turned back and looked up at the flame hashira, my eyes widening in surpise. I bowed slightly, “Thank you..” He chuckled, his bright eyes gleaming with appreciation and passion, “No need to be formal. We’re already on a first name basis.”
I nodded and he walked by my side as I walked to the pond, sitting on the smooth, cement bench, with a sakura tree hanging over it. The peaceful silence set in stone as Kyojurou sat next to the red haired woman, his heart pounding, he wasn’t used to being so nervous around someone, but he couldn’t help being so drawn to her.
Perhaps he was just reading into it a bit too much.
“Kyojurou?”
“Hmm?” He looked down into her nervous but beautiful baby blue eyes, “What is it?” I looked down and messed with my fingers, “Perhaps, you, yuri, tengen, mitsuri, shinobu and I could eat together sometime?” The blonde smiled brightly and unconsciously took her hands and leaned close, “That sounds like a wonderful time!”
A little.. too close.
My eyes widened as I felt his warm calloused hands gently take mine, I smiled softly and closed my eyes, avoiding his gaze out of nervousness.
“HEY NEWBIE!”
I practically jumped at the harsh loud voice, much different than Kyojurou’s tone, 99% of the time. Looking up, I locked eyes with the wind hashira. “Ah, Mr Shinazugawa.” The white haired man gritted his teeth, “So a new hashira huh? You don’t look like much to me. Why don’t you show me what you can do?”
My eyes widened at his sudden but fierce challenge to a spar between the two of us, “Sanemi! Don’t overwhelm the newcomer.” The water hashira Giyuu replied, standing behind him. “Hey! I just want to see if our rankings are still decent is all. Making sure she didn’t cheat her way in.”
“Sanemi.” My eyes widened and I looked back and saw Kyojurou rising to his feet, “That’s no way to treat anyone for that matter.” Shinazugawa grinned, “And? All I’m challenging her to is a simple..” He looked down at me, “friendly..” and leaned closer to my face, “spar.” His eyes darkened as he said the last word, my heart was pounding at his closeness.
Rengoku then leaned over the woman and put his hand on the wind hashira’s shoulder and pushed him back slightly, “Keep your distance. I will not say it again.” Giyuu, even tengen looked shocked at the sudden protectiveness that came over the flame hashira’s stance. Perhaps he was not only protective towards women, but Amiya in particular.
My heart was racing as I sat between the two of them, “Both of you, calm down.” Tomioka snapped, “Oh yeah, what are you gonna do, Tomioka?” The dark haired male crossed his arms, “You could’ve asked her a completely different way. She’s one of us, so treat her like a hashira.”
“Tch. Not until she proves it.” Sanemi snapped and looked down at me again, “Tomorrow. At noon. My dojo.” I looked down, “As you wish.” Rengoku watched the white haired male turn and walk away, before he sat down next to her again, “You really don’t have to fight him. He’s just stubborn.”
“No, it’s fine, it’s just a spar, but I appreciate you standing up for me.” I replied softly, Kyojurou smiled, “Of course.” I nodded, after continuing to talk with Giyuu and Rengoku, I made my way to my freshly modeled estate, determined to go above the wind hashira, within the coming hours.
Shorter chapter, hey my birthday is tomorrow ❤️

Note
I just discovered Fan language, Victorian women made their own secret language using their fans and one of them was holding an open fan over your heart to say ‘I love you’ and another was holding a closed fan below the lips to say ‘kiss me’ I can see Tanjiro being taught this by the entertainment district girls and Tanjiro subconsciously uses it on his Pillars and only Tengen catches on cause his wife’s taught him that.
Tanjirou doesn't even realize how many times he has moved his fan to say "I love you" whenever he's spending time with his Pillars, but Tengen has noticed, and he's very pleased, mostly because their sunshine loves them all back, but also because he's the only one who knows.
That's why he kisses Tanjirou first because the redhead makes a sign with his fan, and when Tanjirou gets surprised and blushes to the tip of his ears, staring in confusion, Tengen explains to him what he was subconsciously doing; he gets flustered at first, but is kinda glad to know Tengen loves him too.
Besides, Tanjirou definitely enjoyed the kiss.
Tengen takes his time before he tells the others, mostly to have Tanjirou all to himself, at least for a few days.
