#Tamizhselvan
oh and this ones my favorite !! Tamizhselvan concept art (2)
Tumblr media
[ ID: A photo. Original traditional art in uncoloured pencil of my OC Tamizhselvan.
This third concept art design is based off of a square. I note it to be pointier. Tamizh looks to the side in a sinister manner, brows furrowed and smiling. Tamizh's face is squared and tapers to a smaller blocky chin. Overall it's a strong looking shape. Lips are more mediumly sized. His nose is round with a nose ring that looks like a little flower. Acne in shaded parts dots his face but especially on cheeks. Her eyes have a large iris with almost pinprick pupils. They still have prominent lashes, little eyeliner and dark circles. The brows are thicker at the outer end. Her straight hair is combed close and parted with the left part pushed up for style. Rest is tied in long braids in an inverted-heart shape tied off by wrapped long ribbons that droop. The hair at the end curls slightly. Her ears are round and squat with heart earrings that are in two parts of each other.
The neck is slightly long and ends in a shirt collar and big tie in a suit-jacket. The shape of her shoulders is quite broad.
Notes for this one have a crossed out 'Beauty mark' in favor of an added nose ring. Questions ask whether the eyes should be brown or greyish. End ID]
---
Yeah this one looks so fucking cool.
Another thing...hmmm....
Also I have to say that's a scholars suit-jacket and not like. A Suit Jacket
Like. Highschool. LOL.
Anyway.... yes! He's so good at everything. He even has three minions who decided to adopt him but don't tell him that, he needs to be in control or he will DIE (fainting so slowly please catch)

Random movie facts I just know for some reason??
I’m literally a living mani ratnam encyclopedia, so beware
The cast Bheem wears on his hand in RRR is not a deliberate choice. He wears it because Tarak irl broke his hand (or wrist).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eega is the only movie for which Rajamouli wrote the story.
Nearly all of Rajamouli’s movies are centered around revenge and have (atleast) one iconic silhouette shot and weapon.
Actress Sridevi was the first choice for the role of Sivagami.
Baahubali was just supposed to be one movie.
Kilikili (the language of the Kalakeyas from Baahubali) is a legit language with grammer rules and a website dedicated to it. According to Rajamouli it’s the “worlds youngest and easiest language”
Speaking of language, Mani Ratnam’s only Telugu movie, Geethanjali, was possible because Nagarjuna (yes, the actor Nagarjuna) followed (stalked?) Mani Ratnam every morning after watching Agni Natchathiram/Gharshana.
The arc of Surya from Thalapathi begins and ends with the shot of the sun. This is because he’s modeled after Karna and Karna is the son of the Sun God. Also many important moments of Surya in the movie has the sun in the background.
Arvind Swamy and Shobana (mild spoiler ahead?) who get married in the movie were classmates when they were kids.
Arvind Swamy was not the first choice for his now iconic roles in Thalapathi, Roja, Bombay, and Thani oruvan/Dhruva.
In Iruvar/Iddaru, Kalpana (played by Aishwarya Rai) looking like Pushpavalli has an important part. The movie is the metaphorical biography of the friendship between MGR and Karunanidhi and it was recently found that Jayalitha (on whom Kalpana is based on) did in fact look similar to MGR’s first wife.
In the same movie, the role of Tamizhselvan (the Karunanidhi equivalent) was offered to and was auditioned by many, including R. Madhavan (who was rejected because his “eyes looked too young”), Mammootty (who had a look test, but rejected the role), Kamal Haasan (who rejected the role), and Arvind Swamy (who was initially finalized, had a look test, and even recorded two poems that are used in the final cut, but was unable to act, as AVM productions refused to let him, as it would bring continuity issues to his other film Minsara Kanavu/Merupu Kalalu). The role finally went to Prakash Raj, who got a national award for this role.
The song Vennila Vennila from this movie is shot in all natural light as the technicians were on strike during the schedule.
Mammootty is 70. Not a fact. Just wanted to let y’all know that Mammukka is 70 years old.
There is an alternate ending to Minsara Kanavu/Merupu Kalalu, (spoiler ahead) where Thomas does not become a priest. Instead Priya and Deva simply get married after Deva jumps off the train.
Director Gautam Vasudev Menon has two cameos in this movie. He worked as an assistant director.
For a movie, Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman wanted to use a Backstreet Boys song. When asked for permission, the production company asked for 1.5 million (not sure if INR or USD) as royalties (they ended up just creating a song from scratch). But when the same production company asked permission to use Chaiyya Chaiyya, from Dil Se for Inside Man, though they were willing to give it for free, Mani Ratnam (the director of Dil Se) and AR Rahman (the composer) demanded the same amount of money which the production company paid.
AR Rahman wanted to record an album with SPB in which Rahman wanted SPB to sing ARR’s popular songs that were originally sung by other singers.
That’s all I can remember for now. Some of these are from deep Wikipedia rabbit holes. Most from a book called Conversations with Mani Ratnam. More soon?

"Unnodu naan irundha ovvoru mani thuliyum marana padukkaiyilum marakadhu kanmaniye!" ( Every single moment that I spent with you, will not be forgotten even in my death bed darling! ) #22yearsofIRUVAR ❤️❤️❤️ In what was one of the finest ever Indian movies made, we got to see an ensemble cast being mastered by an extraordinary #ManiRatnam with the support of some beautiful black and white frames from #SantoshSivan, traditional and out of the world music from maestro #ARRahman, poetic dialogues from #Suhasini and #Vairamuthu and some crisp and long cuts from #SureshUrs, all combining to give us a never seen before cinematic experience, a treasure ever since then and surely for the ages to come. Inspired from the life of #MGR and #Karunanidhi, #ManiRatnam spoke a cinematic language that is still alien to major chunk of the mainstream audience. In what was one of the best ever casting decisions, #Mohanlal just lived out as #Anandan, from a man of nothing to the most powerful man in #TamilNadu. International critics have called him the #MarlonBrando of Indian Cinema, but only we know who he really is. #PrakashRaj, in a national award winning performance was equally brilliant and nuanced as Tamizhselvan. #AishwaryaRai in her debut outing, #Nassar, #Tabu, #Gautami, #Revathi and #DelhiGanesh were apt castings and delivered powerful performances. Santosh Sivan's composition and use of natural lighting in static interiors and extraordinary deep focus cinematography gave him a National award and his work in Iruvar is still a study material for students of Cinema. Ar Rahman used some retro tunes fitting to the 50s and 60s, evergreen tracks that still makes me high. The editing of Suresh Urs and the production design by the late #SamirChanda were also commendable. I was just one month old when #Iruvar released. I wish the movie released in times of now so that I would've been able to experience it fully from the theatres. Still thanks a ton Mani Sir for giving us your Magnum opus which is truly a landmark in Indian Cinema ❤️. #Iruvar #22yearsofIruvar #ManiRatnam #ArRahman #goodfilmsmakeyourlifebetter #cinephiletales #ambivertdreamer212 #beingakash212 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bsm0mwgBOtX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5p5mqdtkf9oq

Teacher pushed a student down stairs causing fracture
Chennai: A woman has held up a protest with the Vyasarpadi police expressing that a teacher in a corporation elementary school in Ganeshpuram had beaten up her nine-year-old child and pushed down in the staircase, abandoning him with a broken hand.
Following the complaint, the school authorities issued a transfer certificate to the victim and his brother, said the boy’s mother Athilakshmi, a maid. “The teacher warned me for sleeping and beat me up. She was in a hurry to send all the students out. Since I was packing my bag slowly, she pushed me towards the staircase and I rolled down,” said Tamizhselvan, a Class IV student.
“Though I told the school authorities that my son’s pain was unbearable, they brought a doctor who asked us to apply pain balm. An X-ray test later revealed that he suffered a fracture on his left hand, said Athilakshmi. “They told me I should provide a leave letter since Tamizhselvan would be on leave until his hand healed. Since I don’t know to read and write, they sought my signature on an empty paper. Later on Friday, they told me to withdraw three of my children from the school. They handed over the transfer certificates for Tamizhselvan and Sathish and told me not to bring my daughter Sanjana to school again.”
“Instead of taking action, the Vyasarpadi police forced me to accept a ‘compensation’ of Rs 10,000 and asked me to withdraw the complaint,” Athilakshmi said.
City corporation deputy commissioner (education) Mageswari Ravi Kumar revealed to TOI that the accusation was false. She said the child had fallen down amid a fight with other students and that his parents had decided to pull the children out of the school. Inspector Mohanraj also said the teacher was innocent. He denied offering Rs 10,000 for medical expenses.

We take a look at 7 famous films based on the lives of actors that gained a cult following over the years…
Tumblr media
Mahanati (2018)
Directed by Nag Ashwin, Mahanati  is a film based on the life of actress Savitri, said to be the first female superstar of the Indian film industry.  Keerthy Suresh brought to life the title character, Dulquer Salmaan, who made his Telugu debut with the film played Gemini Ganesan, Samantha Akkineni  essayed the character of Madhuravani (BA Gold Medal), a journalist who is the narrator of sorts for the film, Bhanupriya, Vijay Devarakonda played Vijay Antony. The who’s who of the South industry were part of this prestigious project. Some of the cameos included that of Akkineni Naga Chaitanya who played his grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Mohan Babu played S. V. Ranga Rao, Prakash Raj played Aluri Chakrapani, Krish was K. V. Reddy, Srinivas Avasarala was L. V. Prasad, Sandeep Vanga was seen as Adurthi Subba Rao, Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam was Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and Sai Madhav Burra played Pingali Nagendra Rao. N. T. Rama Rao was brought to life using special effects and a body double. The film opened to rave reviews. Talking about her role in an interview, Keerthy reportedly said that it was a life lesson to play the role of a real-life character like that of legendary actress Savitri. She said after playing Savitri, she understood the importance of relations and friendships and added she would never make the mistakes Savitri made with her life and career.
Tumblr media
The Dirty Picture (2011)
Directed by Milan Luthria, the film was reportedly based on the life of sex symbol Silk Smitha belonging to the South industry, who was known for her raunchy numbers. The film depicted her life from that of being an extra in the film to that of being one of the most sought after and popular actresses around. Vidya Balan was unconventionally cast against type as the central character and to the surprise of everyone wowed both the masses and the critics alike. The film opened to packed houses and Vidya also won the Filmfare Award for her powerhouse performance. Speaking about her role during the promotions of the film, Vidya had this to say, “I have never enjoyed being a woman more than I did while shooting for The Dirty Picture. I wasn’t uncomfortable doing bold scenes because I knew I was in trusted hands.”
Tumblr media
My Week with Marilyn (2011)
My Week with Marilyn is a 2011 British drama film directed by Simon Curtis and written by Adrian Hodges. It stars Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Dominic Cooper, Julia Ormond, Emma Watson and Judi Dench. Based on two books by Colin Clark, it depicts the making of the 1957 film The Prince and the Showgirl, which starred Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier. The film focuses on the week in which Monroe spent time being escorted around London by Clark (Eddie Redmayne), after her husband, Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott), had left the country. The film is based on Colin Clark’s The Prince, The Showgirl and Me and My Week with Marilyn; two diary accounts, which document his time on the set of the 1957 film. Monroe and Olivier, who is considered the most gifted Shakespearean actor of all time, didn’t reportedly get along during the shooting of the film in 1956. At that point of time, Monroe found a sympathetic ear in form of British writer and filmmaker Colin Clark. Kenneth Branagh played Olivier in the film. Celebrated actress Michelle Williams was lauded by the critics for her true to life depiction of Monroe and won an Oscar nomination for it. In an interview given at the time, she mentioned she was kind of apprehensive of the whole thing and spent around six months trying to talk herself out of it. “But, in the end, there was a kind of inevitability. It was the kind of part I was born to challenge myself with…”
Tumblr media
The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004)
The Life and Death of Peter Sellers is a 2004 British/American film about the life of English comedy actor Peter Sellers, based on Roger Lewis’s book of the same name. It was directed by Stephen Hopkins and starred Geoffrey Rush as Sellers, Miriam Margolyes as his mother Peg Sellers, Emily Watson as his first wife Anne Howe, Charlize Theron as his second wife Britt Ekland, John Lithgow as Blake Edwards, Stephen Fry as Maurice Woodruff and Stanley Tucci as Stanley Kubrick. Though the film met with positive reviews, both Britt Ekland, Sellers’ second wife and Lord Snowdon, a close friend criticised it for different reasons, though both agreed that the Sellers they saw on screen wasn’t the Sellers they knew in real life. Film critics were more generous in their praise and Rush won the Emmy for his performance. Geoffrey Rush reportedly tried on 38 wigs and 40 voices to get his impression of the dark genius right. Parallels with his own life were drawn at the time but Rush refuted them saying his own life wasn’t as dark and troubled as Sellers’. It was a tough challenge for Rush to be Sellers as the script by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus had Sellers inhabiting the various characters who shape his life. It must have been tough both physically and mentally but Fry somehow overcame the difficulties and gave a wonderful performance. “Some people find the idea of the Sellers character playing various people in the film weird or disconcerting,” Rush said in an interview. “I always found it terrific.”
Tumblr media
Iruvar (1997)
The film was loosely based on the life and times of MGR and Karunanidhi, though Mani Ratnam never officially commented on that. MGR was brought to life by Mohanlal in one of his most sublime performances while Prakash Raj gave his career’s best performance as the poet-politician Tamizhselvan and won a National Award for the same. Aishwarya Rai made her big screen debut through this film and played the dual role of Jayalalitha and Mohanlal’s wife.  Talking about the role in an interview with a daily, Mohanlal commented Iruvar offered him an entire lifespan of a character. He liked the role as it had a lot of variations. Prakash Raj, who was trying to make a mark outside of Kannada films, too said Iruvar helped him take the next big step in his career. The film is described by some to be the finest film directed by Mani Ratnam.
Tumblr media
Chaplin (1992)
Chaplin is a 1992 British-American biographical comedy-drama film about the life of British comedian Charlie Chaplin. It was produced and directed by Richard Attenborough and stars Robert Downey, Jr., Marisa Tomei, Dan Aykroyd, Penelope Ann Miller, and Kevin Kline. It also features Geraldine Chaplin in the role of her own paternal grandmother, Hannah Chaplin. The film was adapted by William Boyd, Bryan Forbes and William Goldman from the books My Autobiography by Chaplin and Chaplin: His Life and Art by film critic David Robinson. It was a role of a lifetime at the time for Downey, who is known today as Iron Man. He was a no-name actor with allegedly no professional training who reportedly aced the screen test in a field consisting of 30 known actors. Director Richard Attenborough described him thus at the time – “This little Brat Pack gadfly with virtually no discipline.” The film opened to mostly positive reviews and Downey was praised for his sensitive portrayal of the troubled genius that was Chaplin. He was nominated for the Oscars but like Chaplin himself, who never won an acting honour at the Academy Awards,  he too didn’t win. But he did win the BAFTA in the Best Actor category.
Tumblr media
Bhumika (1977)
Bhumika is a 1977 film directed by Shyam Benegal. The film stars Smita Patil, Amol Palekar, Anant Nag, Naseeruddin Shah and Amrish Puri. The film is based on the memoir, Sangte Aika of the well-known Marathi stage and screen actress of the ’40s Hansa Wadkar, who led a flamboyant and unconventional life. The film won two National Film Awards — Smita Patil won the National Award for her power packed performance and it also won the Best Screenplay Award. It won the Filmfare Best Movie Award as well. It was invited to Carthage Film Festival 1978, as also to the Chicago Film Festival, where it was awarded the Golden Plaque in 1978. The story moves back and forth across flashbacks to the early life of Wadkar. Apart from the non-linear narrative, the film also employed the film within a film device. The film was lauded by the critics and Smita Patil’s performance continues to get praised. Some say it’s her career best performance. In an interview with Filmfare, this is what Shyam Benegal said about Smita’s role in Bhumika. “Initially, I had considered Shabana for Bhumika (1977) too but Smita’s body language and dialect seemed culturally apt for her Maharashtrian character. Bhumika, based on the life of Marathi actress Hansa Wadkar, required Smita’s visual presence from the beginning to the end…”

OC concept art for tamizhselvan(1)
My thought process is below the ID.
Tumblr media
[ ID: A photo. It's original traditional art done in uncolored pencil only of my OC Tamizhselvan of He/she pronouns. It's labelled in the corner as "sketches prelim".
The first is based on a circle shape. First concept art Tamizh's head is perfectly round. She smiles and stares. Her eyebrows are thin and wrap around large mildly bloodshot eyes framed by slight eyeshadow, visible lashes and dark circles. She wears off-centered glasses with a beaded specs string to balance them. His straight hair is combed close except for a part thats pushed up at the right for style. Rest is all in long braids in inverted-heart shape tied with small drooping ribbon. He has a large round nose and thick lips. Her neck is very long and the sketch closes off with her shirt collar.
The second is based on a inverted triangle shape. It's noted to be more angled. Tamizh grins conceitedly, arching her brows. The bottom of his face reflects the triangle shape, a wide grin stretching it out. Bottom lip is bigger than the top. The sides of his cheeks are dotted with acne and associated scars. There's some on forehead too. But a beauty mark on his aquiline nose. The eyes appear lighter here or more energetic. They still are bloodshot and have prominent lashes, dark circles, eyeliner. Glasses with specs string are still offcentered. The eyebrows are dramatically arched. Her ears have a rounder and squat shape with two parts of a heart earring on either ear. Stylized big curly hair is combed in two sections and tied up in braids that look like inverted hearts. One left side is still pushed in for style. Whole of the hair is noted to be in a wavy motion for drawing. The ribbon this time is bigger and in a butterfly-like shape. Notes beside it question whether they should be black, red or white. The long neck leads to a shirt collar finishing the sketch. Text on top notes the addition of acne, beauty mark to this concept. End ID]
--
It was really hard starting these at all. I was stuck for weeks and weeks. But I discovered I still had the ability to design when I pushed myself to do it. Each was based on a shape. I still haven't worked out the final design but you know, it was fun.
Sorry to all toppers seeing this OC, I know he doesn't look very sensitivity-read but this is what you guys look like to me /j
Well I think one of the main reasons I started a blog at all was for my art. So I shouldn't be so hesitant.
What to say about her? She's a little bastard with a beautiful name who hides quite a lot.

I'm so tired??
I may post the third concept art tomorrow or not. But I really need to take a rest.
Anyway. Voice claim for pre-transition Tamizh...( idk the gender I'm hazy)

[ Id: A photo. Its original art in traditional medium that is paper and pencil. It is of concept art for my character Tamizhselvan of he/she pronouns.
This one is based on the combined shape of a vertical rectangle inside a circles confines.
Tamizh looks out from behind a wall she has one hand out on, and grins very wide, the pink hearts near her also making her appear full of affection. Tamizh has a long rectangular face here. His big eyes are more apart from the thinner bridged nose. Eyes still have little eyeliner, prominent lashes, dark circles and thin brows. Her grin shows large front teeth and mildly sized lips. There's hyperpigmentation around some spots of his face like the mouth. A little acne is scattered over cheeks, forehead and neck. He has long, big ears.
His hair is curly and parted at the middle neatly, tied in braids looking like fluffed or "cloudy" inverted hearts. The braids are quite long and fan to either side of his rectangular face giving a circular frame like the reference shape. The top ribbons are tied like rotund red blooming flowers and colored as such.
Her scholars suit-jacket and tie are noted to be oversized clothes. The sleeves of it cover his hands bottom. other notes say the hair direction should go be going down, poofing. The tips of the suit-jackets shoulders should slightly point up. It's questioned whether the puffy ending part of the braid needs some sort of attachment to hold it, but for now I have drawn it tied with itself. End ID]

Ohhh It makes me happy to look at him...
Anyway this iteration took a particular amount of time. I think I messed up two times. It came out looking great finally though.
Now for the final design I need to decide if I'm keeping one of all the designs exactly as is or ,make some kind of fusion with the traits I want/like.
OK now I should give another fact about him/her ...usually dresses more on girly side. Also she's so dramatic. When she's around someone, she behaves like she's in her own theatre that no one else can see.
