Aditha Karikalan and Nandini
ok so like i just watched ps2 and OML the scene bw aditha and nandini actually destroyed me. i would literally pay to watch the movie again JUST to see their confrontation. the music, the visuals UGHH just everything was amazing.
so many people analyzing it from aditha's pov but let's look at it from nandini's view. she intentionally invited aditha to meet her. she's going to meet her childhood sweetheart, her first love who completely destroyed her life. she despises him. she hates him. she will kill him. she wants vengeance. not only for veerapandiyan, but for the royal life she was denied TWICE. both times because of the cholas.
but all thoughts of revenge go away once she sees him. because she doesn't see the blood-thirsty, war-hardened warrior who beheaded veerapandiyan without second thought. she doesn't see the carefree young prince who took her on horse rides all those years ago. she instead sees an anguished, tormented man, wracked with guilt. haunted by the horrors he's done.
nandini meant to show her superiority when she tells ravidasan he cannot possibly accomplish a task even she can't. but as she looks at aditha, she realizes that it's true. aditha won't let himself be killed by anyone else. only nandini can do it. in his eyes, dying by nandini's hands is his only way to redeem himself, at least in death.
how can she kill him now? her love for him, buried beneath her hate slowly springs back. she wants nothing more than to forgive aditha, accept his idea and run away, leave this conspiracy, this revenge and all this hatred in her heart behind. she wants playful games of hide-and-seek in the forest. she wants horseback rides by the banks of ponni at sunset. she wants the innocence and happiness of her childhood. because as much as she is HIS nandini, he his HER aditha. she doesn't know how not to love him.
but she's too far gone. it's not only about her anymore. the fate of a kingdom rests in her hands. she remembers her promise to veerapandiyan. she remembers how aditha refused to listen to her, even as she begged at his feet. she remembers how chola soldiers stormed into her house and forced her to flee. sembiyan maadevi's disapproval. kundavai's taunts. every injustice comes to the forefront of her mind and she is able to hate him again, for a fleeting moment.
she wishes she was stronger, because now aditha is pushing a dagger into her hands. she's close, so very close to her goal. barely a hair's breadth separated the dagger and aditha when she realizes she can't do it. she can't kill him. she CANNOT be the one to snuff out his life.
in the dark, aditha talks softly. no more yells, no more sarcasm, no more pleading. he speaks from his heart. he tells her that the man she loved died long ago. she starts to cry. she wants to yell that it's not true. the man she loved is here, right in front of her eyes, begging her to kill him. how can he ask that of her?
aditha embraces her. she's screaming now. because, this is all wrong. she cant do this. she cant. with whatever strength she has, she tries to stop the dagger from going in. but here again, she's weak. before she knows it, aditha goes limp in her arms. he stops breathing. he falls to the floor. nandini clings onto him desperately. she screams loudly, because surely aditha would hear her pain and come back. he doesn't.
someone drags her away. she's not sure who. she doesn't care. her hand remains outstretched. her fingers burn with the touch of his skin, his blood. as his face fades from her view, she catches a ghost of a smile on his face. a happy, satisfied smile. the one her aditha karikalan wore. he's finally at peace.
people die many times. nandini died again, for the last time.

Do you know any Indian horror movies like a slasher film (or just in general) because I've personally never seen an Indian slasher movie? Or Indian musicals because I love musicals or just Indian films in general I would love some recommendations!!!<3
Hey! There aren't that many Indian slashers but two I remember are NH10 and Chup: Revenge of the Artist. For other horror, I recommend Bulbbul, Tumbbad, Aamis and Manichitrathazu (this one has been remade in other Indian languages so you can also check those out)
Indian musicals well. I will be really honest most of our movies technically fall under this category we just have to start dancing everywhere BUT to start off, I'll recommend some movies from the different industries:
Hindi: Om Shanti Om, 3 Idiots (mandatory viewing if you want to get into Indian cinema), Rang De Basanti, Qala, Sholay, Taare Zameen Par, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Fitoor
Telugu: Jersey, Magadheera, Sita Ramam, Shyam Singha Roy, Eega (don't question anything. Please don't) and Mahanati
Malayalam: Uyare, Premam, Bangalore Days, Minnal Murali, Athiran, Jallikkattu and Jana Gana Mana
Tamil: Iruvar, Ponniyin Selvan (both parts), Kaithi and its sequel Vikram, Jai Bhim, Super Deluxe, Gargi, Paava Kadhaigal and Soorarai Pottru
For Marathi I've only watched Sairat and The Disciple but I would recommend both and for Kannada there's always 777 Charlie (it's about a dog. What more could you want)
Like you can probably tell, there is a LOT meaning that there's a lot of other amazing stuff I had to leave out but I think this is a good starting point (our film output is number 1 in the world for a reason). Feel free to ask if you want more recs <3
#i just realised how much better i could've framed this answer by categorizing based on genre but NOOO I'M STUPID#but jo hai so hai i hope this still helped#asks#lune!#movie recs

Hii I know you asked for Hindi/Bollywood but I had to throw in Tamil/Telugu (languages) movies! This is off the top of my head btw-
- Baahubali Part 1 & 2 (Telugu, 2015/2017): A very grandiose movie with lots of fantasy and medieval elements. Good romance & action.
- Eega (Telugu, 2012): Sorta cracky - guy gets reincarnated as a fly to avenge his death
- Vikram Vedha (Tamil, 2017): Makes you think abt morality and the greyness of it all. I think this story would be fun for Jason 👀 to ponder about the morality of killing criminals
- Soodhu Kavvum (Tamil, 2013): Talks about morality and corruption, but more of a comedy.
- Anbe Sivam (Tamil, 2003): Comedy
- Alaipayuthey (Tamil, 2000): Romance
- Mouna Ragam (Tamil, 1986): Somber yet romantic.
Oh yes other languages are totally fine! I really should've just said "Indian movies" but since "Bollywood" and "Hindi films" are terms I've commonly heard, my brain was like, yes let's use those descriptors 😭.
That's a great list, thank you! Now I'm excited to check out Vikram Vedha with Jason in mind! And Baahubali sounds like it could be up my alley! I want to watch the trailer for it when I get off work.

I am going mad . . .
When I read Ponniyin Selvan, I imagined Aditha Karikalan to look like this but with expensive clothes and gold jewellery.
This is a still from the 1991 Malayalam movie Perumthachan. He 👆🏽played Kannan, the son of Raman Perumthachan who was probably the Chief Architect of Tanjai Temple. The master carpenter (Perumthachan) is a legendary figure in Kerala and many temples and other structures are attributed to him.
See, we Malayalis always had trendy hairstyles.
Kannan is a great craftsman and a rebel who questions the existing norms and social hierarchy. He is also involved in an intercaste, inter class love affair to the disapproval of all families.
Reverse Nandini-Karikalan situation as he is a carpenter and she is nobility.
I am a kid, but I am going to lecture you.
I am sexy and I know it.
I am feeling feelings and I don't know what to do with them.
I am a lost cause.
Isn't Kunjikkavu stunning?
Kannan's muse and ladylove, Kunjikkavu Thampuratti (Princess) 😍 She was played by Monisha Unni who passed away in 1992. She won the National Award when she was just 16.
But you know what? I always thought that this actor is Sanjay Mitra, who played Rishyashringan in another Malayalam movie.
I know I am dumb, but you really can't blame me. These guys share the same moodboard.
But yesterday I realised that I was wrong. How the hell could this happen? This is Prashanth!!!
youtube
Prashanth was the first Tamil superstar from the 90s. Perumthachan was his second movie and he was just 17 years old in it. 'Top Star' Prashanth grew up into a young man and always had a very suave urban look in his Tamil films. That's why I couldn't recognise him. Unfortunately, his career fizzled out due to some career missteps and the rise of Vijay and Ajith.
youtube
And the most funny thing about this is that Prashanth is the cousin of Vikram who ended up playing Aditha Karikalan.
I am not joking. Prashanth's father Thiagarajan and Vikram's mother Rajeshwari are siblings. The families aren't on talking terms for some reason. I heard that it is because Rajeshwari had an inter-religious marriage without their permission. Meanwhile, Prashanth had to get his marriage annulled because that lady was married to another man all along.
😮
Was this role always meant to go to someone in this family? Prashanth too was a Mani Ratnam hero, way back in 1993 (Thiruda Thiruda).
Now I want to check Santosh's family tree and see if he is related to them in any manner.
My sense of reality is shattered. It might take some time to recover from this. How do I deal with this?

calling all desi folks !
hello there ! i have been in the rp community for over a decade now on various platforms but it has always been hard to come across fellow desis to write with .
do you want to scream over your favorite ships like rahul - anjali from k3g or build up an alternate world to accomodate the chemistry that was between abhimanyu - rohan in soty ? do you want to talk about latest movies and old nostalgic ones ? across most major indian languages film industries ( telugu · tamil · hindi · kannada · malayalam ) movies , faceclaims and ship dynamics , look no further !
if you're a desi reading this and if you roleplay over at discord or are interested in doing so , like this post or send me a dm !! i would love nothing more than to connect with my fellow desi rp partners !!
full disclosure : admin is 23 and looking to write mostly queer desi ships with folks who are 20+ and desi ! minors do NOT interact .
i don't write as real persons or celebrities , i use faceclaims for original characters instead . a new character will be created for each rp plot / partner . plotting and headcanons are something i really enjoy so that would be fun to focus on as well !
smut can be written but it's a case - by - case basis on who and what i am comfortable with , but otherwise , fade - to - black is the norm . limits and triggers are respected so i request the same of you .
though , if you're simply looking to write females / sub characters only or wanting to use my male characters , then i am not the rp partner for you .
currently looking for m x m ships and plots , but others as well ! can't wait to connect with y'all !
me writing this post to gather us desi in rpc :
some canon pairings i am open to writing are :
rambheem ( rrr ) devadas ( 2018 ) abhirohan ( student of the year ) vandhiyamozhi ( ponniyin selvan ) devaradha / varadeva ( salaar ) karjay ( rang de basanti ) chittijai : jairava : dhruya ( charak ships ) rolexanbu ( vikram ) johndas ( master ) vikramvedha ( 2017 )
and a whole long damn variety of cross - movie and cross - industry pairings and ships !
for example : vijay deverakonda x adivi sesh , thala ajith x karthi , nani x rana daggubati , unni mukundan x adivi sesh , dhanush x sivakarthikeyan , vijay thalapathy x arjun das , suriya x nani , jr ntr x jayam ravi , shah rukh khan x r madhavan , vijay thalapathy x surya , karthi x akkineni nagarjuna , prabhas x jayam ravi , ram charan x suriya and many more !
P.S. this is NOT a writing call for desi-only writers !! SO non-desi besties who are into desi cinema can reach out too pls 💕 !

Fave tamil actors/actresses?
Vango vango! Kollywood pathi pesa vango!
Lol ok so actors, Vikram VIKRAM VIKRAAAAMMMM! Underrated King. Also Vijay and Simbu. I had the hots for Arya at some point lol. And Rajini films are always great but in a "going to theatre with friends and watching" kinda vibe, actually I also like Vijay more in that vibe tbh. Honorary mention (they aren't tamil but acted in tamil) - Dulquer Salman & Fahadh Faasil.
As for actresses, Trisha (insert vadivel meme here) More Trisha. Lol. I adore Trisha. Also, not actually Tamil but act in Tamil -- I love Nithiya Menon and Aishwarya Rai, and always have a soft spot for Jyothika and Shriya.

Ever since I saw Ponniyin Selvan, I’ve been on a quest to watch many Tamil movies, since I think the last Tamil film I watched before the PS saga was Kandukondain Kandukondain (that was at a time when I was watching Jane Austen adaptations non-stop!) I’ve been choosing in a rather erratic way from films that either were directed by Mani Ratnam or starred Trisha, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bacchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi or Jeyaram. (As far as I’m aware, neither Aishwarya Lakshmi nor Shobhita Dhulipala have acted in other Tamil movies? I do have Shobhita’s Prime show to watch though.)
The other actors whose movies I’m also watching are Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha Prabhu because I saw their acting in “Farzi” and “The Family Man” (both Hindi-language OTT series directed and produced by two Telugu gentlemen so really very all-India!) After I watched Thani Oruvan, I added Nayanthara and Aravind Swamy to the list so … basically, I’m set for like the next 20 years ;)
Sometimes I get lucky and two of the actors are in THE SAME MOVIE. Which brings me to the fact that I watched “Unnakum Ennakum” last night, and my goodness, Arulmozhi Varman and Kundavai Devi were SUCH BABIES in this film. (Also, much closer to the ages of their characters in Kalki’s novel - Arulmozhi Varman is 19 and Kundavai is 21, and Aditha Karikalan is 25 … so yeah.) This movie came out in 2006 so I think Trisha was 23-24 and Ravi was about 25-26?
Farming is HARD WORK, y’all, but this boy was willing to collect cow dung in his bare hands for the sake of Trisha. And who wouldn’t! (Vandiyadevan would die for her, but would he plow and plant rice and milk cows? Hmm?)
This picture is for contrast! They’re still beautiful, but definitely not playing 19-21 year olds any more :)
