India: 500 passengers stranded, tracks damaged
Torrential rains have flooded roads, disrupted railway services and forced authorities to scramble to rescue stranded people in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The deluge came at a time when the state is still reeling from the devastation caused by Cyclone Michaung, which hit the coast this month and killed at least 13 people.
Tamil Nadu received nearly 50 mm of rainfall from Sunday to Monday, compared to the 2.5 mm that would be normal for this time of the year. Indian media reports that at least five people have died in floods and rain-related accidents that mainly affected Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts.
Footage from Indian news agency ANI showed entire neighbourhoods left under water, with houses looking like lonely islands surrounded by murky brown water.
Crews used inflatable rafts to rescue people from homes and temples, and to distribute food parcels to those who were unable to move to safety.

TOP 10 TOURIST PLACES TO VISIT IN INDIA
Tumblr media
India, renowned for the enormous number of tourist destinations spread over its vast territory, is a melting pot of cultures, natural beauty, adventurous activities, and stunning beaches.
If you are planning a trip to the country, you should not miss the following locations (well, at least not all of them). We have covered all of our favourites, from hill stations to beaches to cities, highlighting the culture and much more in order for you to enjoy the finest of India's tourism.
AGRA
Agra is one of the most visited cities in India due to its abundance of historical sites. The Taj Mahal, one of the world's most renowned structures, is, of course, at the top of this list of Agra attractions.
Along with the Agra Fort, Akbar's Tomb, and Fatehpur Sikri, this marble-clad structure is a stunning example of Mughal architecture. Also a terrific place to feast on delicious Mughlai cuisine.
GOA
With 51 beaches along its coastline, Goa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. Its white sand beaches, palm trees, low tax rate, wonderful coastal food, and laid-back demeanour make it a fantastic tourist destination in India.
Winter is the greatest season to visit this location because the weather is ideal (though this is when it can get expensive, too). In addition to the beach, the city's nightlife is not to be missed.
AMRITSAR
Amritsar, founded by Guru Ram Das in 1577, is regarded as the spiritual capital of Sikhism. The Golden Temple, the holiest gurudwara of the Sikh religion, is located in the heart of the old city. Locals refer to it as Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara.
The Akal Takhat and Mata temples are among well-known attractions in this city. Lassi and chicken tikka are two excellent dishes to sample in Amritsar.
SHIMLA
Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is one of India's most renowned hill stations. With the Town Hall at its centre and a magnificent view of the Himalayas, this location attracts a large number of tourists.
Visit the Viceregal Lodge, Christ Church, and Gorton Castle to discover Shimla's true heritage. The snowy mountains and small lanes are worth watching and exploring throughout the winter months.
MUNNAR
Munnar, located in Kerala's Western Ghats, is one of the most tranquil and picturesque tourist destinations in India. The hill station features exceptional natural beauty in the form of rolling hills, picturesque valleys, virgin forests, waterfalls, streams, national parks, tea and spice plantations, and meandering pathways.
However, it is Munnar's unmistakable colonial beauty that attracts travellers time and time again. There are many churches, English colonial bungalows and cottages, and other structures in the hill station, which was a popular vacation destination for the British.
COORG
Coorg or Kodagu, which is surrounded by gorgeous mountain ranges and boasts a lush green terrain, is yet another clichéd holiday spot that lives up to the reputation. This hill station in the Indian state of Karnataka is a favourite weekend destination for nature enthusiasts and those in search of solitude. Coorg's allure is unparalleled, from its verdant hills and sparkling streams to its quaint villages and expansive coffee and spice farms.
Since Coorg enjoys beautiful weather throughout the year, it is a popular destination for Bangalore residents seeking to escape the chaos of the city.
OOTY
Udhagamandalam, usually referred to as Ooty, is a hill station in Tamil Nadu. The mild climate, the view of India's Western Ghats, and the tranquil environment make this a wonderful vacation spot for families and friends.
It is renowned for its tea plantations, lush gardens, bungalows from the British era, and spicy cuisine. During the summer holidays, when many families spend a week or two here, the area is typically congested. Once a little town, Ooty is now a bustling tourist destination with year-round activity.
MANALI
Manali, located in the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh, attracts visitors with its natural beauty and serenity. The hill station is popular by tourists from across the nation, particularly during the summer months when cities swelter in the searing heat.
The hill station's beauty is enhanced by snow-capped mountains, dense forests, riverine valleys, and beautiful streams, making it one of the most popular holiday destinations in India. Love in the Hills: Ideal Pre-Wedding Shoot Spots in Coonoor
The picturesque hill station of Coonoor in Tamil Nadu is well-known for its verdant surroundings, calm atmosphere, and comfortable weather. It provides a wide range of gorgeous settings ideal for pre-wedding photos. Here, we look at some of the most well-known locations that video producers might use to record breathtaking scenes.
Sim’s Park
At 1,780 meters above sea level, Sim’s Park is a botanical garden with exquisite landscaping. This 30-acre park, created in 1874 by Mr. J.D. Sims and Major Murray, is home to a wide variety of trees and plants worldwide. Its meandering walks, colourful flower beds, and serene lake further enhance the park’s aesthetic appeal. The glass house brimming with decorative plants and the well-kept rose garden are just two charming locations for couples to take pictures.
The park is the perfect location for romantic photography all year round because of its distinct environment, which supports many plants. Thousands of people attend the yearly fruit and vegetable festival in May, highlighting the park’s great variety and vivid colours. Early morning or late afternoon visits are advised for pre-wedding photos to avoid crowds and catch the gentle warmth of natural light.
Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint
One of Coonoor’s most well-known vantage spots is Dolphin’s Nose, which provides stunning sweeping views of the Nilgiri Hills and the surrounding lowlands. Couples seeking dramatic backgrounds for their pre-wedding portraits will love this place. The viewpoint offers a broad vista that extends as far as the eye can see, and it derives its name from its unusual shape, which resembles a dolphin’s nose.
The short walk to Dolphin’s Nose gives your photo shoot a sense of adventure. The walk itself is picturesque, with verdant vegetation along the route. Once they reach the viewpoint, couples can pose against the breathtaking scenery to take pictures that capture their love and the beauty of nature. The finest times to go are sunrise or sunset, when the sky’s hues create a mystical atmosphere.
Tea Estates
The expansive tea estates of Coonoor are well-known for providing a distinctive backdrop for pre-wedding photos. Finding a more tranquil and lovely setting is more difficult than the gently undulating green hills with their well-kept tea bushes. Couples can stroll around the tea estates and enjoy the pure mountain air while posing among the vivid green leaves.
In addition to offering stunning scenery, the tea plantations let couples include aspects of the local way of life in their photo sessions. Photographers can document unscripted moments as couples engage with tea growers or visit nearby factories to observe the tea-making process. Early in the morning is the ideal time to visit these estates because the mist that descends over the hills creates ethereal photos.
Lamb’s Rock
Lamb’s Rock is another picturesque vantage point in Coonoor that provides expansive views of the surroundings. Couples looking for private moments against a stunning landscape would love this location. Surrounded by verdant woodlands, the viewpoint offers a tranquil setting away from the bustle of popular tourist destinations.
Visitors must make a short walk across picturesque terrain to get to Lamb’s Rock. Once there, couples can take in breathtaking vistas while documenting their love journey against the backdrop of the natural world. Gentle sunshine streams through the trees in the early morning or late afternoon, making the location especially attractive.
Hidden Gems
Despite some well-known sights, Coonoor also contains undiscovered jewels ideal for pre-wedding photos.
Coonoor Botanical Garden
Though less busy than Sim’s Park, the Coonoor Botanical Gardens are just as captivating. This area is well-known for its varied vegetation and serene ambience, making it the perfect place for romantic photography. The gardens offer numerous chances for stunning photographs because of their well-kept walkways bordered by vibrant blooms and unusual plant varieties.
Because they are easily accessible from Coonoor town, the botanical gardens are a great choice for couples who want to get away from it all without leaving the comforts of the city. It is advised to visit in the early morning to take advantage of the cooler weather and fewer tourists.
Highfield Tea Factory
Pre-wedding photos gain appeal and authenticity when taken at a functioning tea factory, such as Highfield Tea Factory. This factory, in a stunning setting with verdant tea gardens, displays traditional tea-making techniques.
In addition to learning about tea production, couples can visit different areas of the facility, enhancing their photo shoot’s storyline. Photographers can take unscripted pictures of couples interacting with employees or posing beside antique equipment amid verdant hills.
Nilgiri Mountain Railway
A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway is renowned for its quaint vintage trains, which travel through picturesque scenery between Mettupalayam and Ooty. These retro trains can add personality to pre-wedding picture shoots.
Couples can take candid photos or stand on or near the tracks on this picturesque railway route. The vivid blue trains set against verdant landscapes produce eye-catching images that arouse feelings of romance and nostalgia. To properly arrange your shot, it is necessary to review train schedules beforehand.
Conclusion
Coonoor has a variety of gorgeous settings that are ideal for pre-wedding photos that tell love stories against spectacular scenery. Every place offers distinctive aesthetics that accommodate different themes and styles, from well-known locations like Sim’s Park and Dolphin’s Nose to lesser-known treasures like Highfield Tea Factory and Coonoor Botanical Gardens. Content producers can successfully use these magical locations to produce enduring experiences that couples will treasure forever by taking accessibility and any difficulties into account while organising their shoots. [ad_1] Ravichandran Ashwin with Ravindra Jadeja after a wicket (PC: BCCI/X) Rohit Sharma was in denial at the post-match press conference, after India’s humiliating home series loss against New Zealand. The Ravichandran Ashwin-Ravindra Jadeja question was duly asked, and the India captain stonewalled on the spin duo. “There’s too much expectation on those two guys,” said Rohit. “Every game they play, they are expected to take wickets, they are expected to run through the opponents and they are expected to win Test matches for us. I don’t think that’s fair. It’s the responsibility of all of us to make sure we get the Test match wins, not just the two guys.” Of course, the skipper was never going to throw his two senior teammates under the bus, but deep down, the team management knows how Ashwin and Jadeja have struggled against the New Zealand batsmen in the ongoing series. Collectively, the two spinners have taken just 12 wickets and leaked runs. In spin-friendly Pune, they were out-bowled by Mitchell Santner and even by their junior teammate, Washington Sundar. Yes, Rohit’s defensive captaincy, especially in the first session of the second Test in Pune, didn’t help the spinners. But the way they struggled to contain Rachin Ravindra & Co was a serious matter of concern. New Zealand came here with a clear plan. They attacked the Indian tweakers, never allowing them to settle into a rhythm. They weren’t afraid of going over the top. But given Ashwin and Jadeja’s experience and skill set, they were expected to come up with a counter-ploy. Ashwin searched for the right length and right pace, while Jadeja’s control deserted him. He also struggled to get the zip off the wicket, something he is known for. The series defeat against New Zealand ended India’s astounding streak of 18 consecutive home series wins. They were unbeaten at home for 12 years, and Ashwin and Jadeja were central to that golden run. Since forming a deadly spin partnership in 2012, Ashwin has taken 326 wickets in 55 home Tests, while Jadeja has accounted for 225 scalps in 47 matches. But the off-spinner from Tamil Nadu is 38, while the left-arm spinner from Saurashtra will turn 36 in a month. Father Time spares no one and they are gradually entering the twilight zone. The question is, who next? Indian cricket has a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja in Axar Patel. Also, some other left-arm spinners like Manav Suthar and Saurabh Kumar are doing well in domestic cricket. But there’s no off-spinner in sight who can be a readymade replacement for Ashwin. Washington ran through New Zealand batting on Pune turner, but by his own admission, he is a specialist batsman who bowls off-spin. And not only the spin department, India’s Test cupboard looks bare, with transition on the anvil. As far as batting is concerned, the team is going to Australia for a five-Test series with two walking wickets (on form), a fair-weather batsman who mostly scores runs in second innings, a middle-order batsman who has kept consistency at arm’s length and a callow youngster whose technique might come under the scanner on fast and bouncy Australian pitches. The selectors have discarded CheteshwarPujara and Ajinkya Rahane because they are on the wrong side of thirty and without millions of followers on social media. As for the next generation, except Yashasvi Jaiswal, very few inspire confidence. Moving to fast bowling, and in Mohammed Shami’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah lacks a world-class new-ball partner, which might hurt India in Australia. Coming back to Ashwin and Jadeja, both have been picked for the tour Down Under. Can they regain their mojo? Some high-profile careers ended in Australia in 2011-12. The upcoming tour could see a repeat. Also read:  After New Zealand’s stunning series victory, India’s path to the World Test Championship final at Lord’s has become steeper.
