India: 500 passengers stranded, tracks damaged
Torrential rains have flooded roads, disrupted railway services and forced authorities to scramble to rescue stranded people in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The deluge came at a time when the state is still reeling from the devastation caused by Cyclone Michaung, which hit the coast this month and killed at least 13 people.
Tamil Nadu received nearly 50 mm of rainfall from Sunday to Monday, compared to the 2.5 mm that would be normal for this time of the year. Indian media reports that at least five people have died in floods and rain-related accidents that mainly affected Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts.
Footage from Indian news agency ANI showed entire neighbourhoods left under water, with houses looking like lonely islands surrounded by murky brown water.
Crews used inflatable rafts to rescue people from homes and temples, and to distribute food parcels to those who were unable to move to safety.

Chennai To Release A New Residential Project On Pongal
Tumblr media
Introduction
In the state of Tamil Nadu, the Pongal festival is observed with considerable splendour and pomp. One of the most significant occasions of the year for the locals is a festival that honours the harvest season. People are immersed in the four-day celebrations, doing everything from decorating their homes to buying new attire, making festive fare, and exchanging Tamil Pongal wishes.
As a result, if you're interested in learning more about Pongal. Here is a little introduction to the world of Pongal.
Pongal Festival
One of the largest celebrations for local farmers. They commemorate all of their labour in the fields during Pongal. A single day of celebration is insufficient. As a result, a Pongal festival is a four-day event, with each day having a distinct meaning.
It is only fitting that the first day of the Pongal festival be set aside to show reverence to Lord Indra, the God of rain and the ruler of the clouds in Hindu mythology, as the rain gods are to be praised first and foremost for a prosperous harvest season.
People make sure to clean and maintain the cleanliness of their homes on this day. This not only gives your surroundings a thorough cleansing, but it also purges any negative energies that might be building up in your home.
In the evening, families perform the Bhogi Mantalu ritual, and homes frequently have intriguingly created rangoli for the Pongal kolam at the door. Young girls participate in a special rite that involves dancing around a bonfire while singing hymns to Lord Indra and expressing gratitude for the springtime and, more importantly, for their current harvest.
Auspicious Day In Chennai
Pongal is a traditional event that dates back to the Sangam period, which spans 200 BC to 300 AD. Pongal was originally a Dravidian harvest festival, and it is recorded in several Sanskrit Puranas and other holy writings. On the other hand, historians associate Pongal with Thai Un and Thai Niradal, which were reportedly observed during the Sangam Period. Numerous legends are connected to Pongal festivals.
The Shiva Legend
According to mythology, Lord Shiva is said to have once sent his bull, Basava, to visit Earth and subsequently instructed the locals to take daily baths and oil massages. Basava instructed the inhabitants of Earth to eat regularly and take an oil bath just once a month due to a communication breakdown.
When Lord Shiva learned about this error, he became very enraged. In a frenzy of rage, Lord Shiva cursed Basava and consigned him to Earth for all time. He spent his entire life helping people grow more and more food because of the curse, which required him to plough the fields.
The Lord Indra Legend
Another tale holds that when Lord Krishna was still a little child, he decided to teach Lord Indra a lesson. This happened as a result of Lord Indra's growing conceit after ascending to the position of a supreme deity. So, by Lord Krishna's plan, he commanded the village's cowherds to quit fully worshipping Lord Indra. And when Lord Indra learned about this, he was indignant. He brought clouds to the village to cause a storm, pouring rain, and other mayhem in a fit of fury.
When Lord Krishna noticed the never-ending downpour, he devised a strategy and lifted the entire Mount Govardhan. Lord Indra quickly recognised his error and corrected it by putting an end to the storm. Lord Krishna asked the followers to observe the day in honour of Lord Indra after realising that the latter was sorry for his actions. Because of this, Lord Indra is honoured during Pongal.

How Coimbatore's Climate Affects Pest Infestations
Tumblr media
As Coimbatore's leading pest management experts, Quantum Pest Management understands how our unique climate creates distinct pest challenges throughout the year. Our city's weather patterns significantly influence pest behaviour, breeding cycles, and infestation patterns. Let's explore how Coimbatore's climate impacts pest activity and what it means for your home or business.
Pest Control Services Coimbatore
Understanding Coimbatore's Climate
Coimbatore enjoys a pleasant climate year-round, thanks to its location between the Western Ghats and Tamil Nadu plains. However, this moderate climate, characterized by:
Hot summers (March to June)
Southwest monsoon (July to September)
Northeast monsoon (October to December)
Mild winters (December to February)
creates perfect conditions for various pest species to thrive.
Seasonal Pest Patterns
Summer Season Impact
During our hot summers, we typically observe:
Increased ant activity as they search for water
Higher termite infestations due to wood-damaging conditions
Cockroach populations expanding rapidly
More frequent spider sightings indoors
The heat drives pests to seek shelter in cooler indoor spaces, making your home or business an attractive target.
Monsoon Season Challenges
The monsoon seasons bring unique pest problems:
Mosquito breeding in standing water
Dampwood termite activity increases
Rodents seeking shelter from rain
Higher risk of bed bug infestations
Sudden surge in flying insects
The increased moisture levels during these months create ideal breeding conditions for many pest species.
Common Pests in Coimbatore's Climate
Year-Round Pests
Some pests remain active throughout the year due to our moderate climate:
Cockroaches
Ants
Spiders
House flies
Seasonal Pests
Others show increased activity during specific seasons:
Mosquitoes (peak during monsoons)
Termites (most active in summer and monsoon)
Rodents (more prevalent during cooler months)
Flying insects (monsoon season)
Climate-Related Pest Behavior
Understanding how climate affects pest behavior helps in effective management:
Temperature Effects
Higher temperatures accelerate pest reproduction
Insects become more active and visible
Feeding patterns intensify
Humidity Impact
Increased moisture leads to rapid breeding
Creates favorable conditions for fungi and mold
Affects wood-destroying pests' activity
Rainfall Influence
Forces underground pests to surface
Creates new breeding sites
Drives pests to seek indoor shelter
Prevention Strategies for Coimbatore's Climate
Monsoon Season Preparation
Seal entry points around doors and windows
Improve drainage systems
Remove standing water sources
Install proper ventilation systems

[ad_1] Indian team after a fall of a wicket. Source ( Indianteam Insta) Atreyo Mukhopadhyay in Pune After rains in Bengaluru, a blazing sun greeted the teams in Pune. With that, the focus turned to the pitch at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, in the outskirts of the cultural capital of the state. India must win the second Test against New Zealand to harbour hopes of clinching the series and confirming a berth in the World Test Championship final. The playing surface was covered in the morning. That was natural, considering that there was some rain here as well, until 48 hours ago. When the Indians arrived for practice in the afternoon, the sheets were removed and the square was laid bare under a harsh sun for a few hours. This suggests that there was an attempt to keep it dry so that it assists the spinners. The Indians possibly believe that spin and not pace is the best weapon against this visiting side, which will miss key batter Kane Williamson for the second successive game. The presence of five spinners in the squad of 16 as against three fast bowlers is an indication of that. Will the tweakers be able to deliver, after an indifferent outing in the first Test? “The wicket (in Bengaluru) wasn’t particularly helpful to the spin, for all the spinners who weren’t showing. If conditions are more spin-friendly, then I’m sure the guys will be fine,” said India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate on Tuesday. The vaunted spin unit was a letdown in the first Test, after India were bowled out for a shocking 46 in the first innings. The team had fought back by taking seven wickets for 233 runs. That’s when Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee cut loose against Ravichandran Ashwin & Co. and took the game away from the hosts in the blink of an eye. Ashwin went for 5.87 runs per over. Kuldeep Yadav, who was expected to provide the X factor, also conceded more than five runs per over. Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets with a better economy rate. But in terms of having control over the batters, he didn’t perform very highly either. The success of the Kiwis against the spinners turned out to be a key factor in the end. Keeping in mind India’s dependence on spin in home Tests and the remarkable success of the spinners in these conditions, it’s important that this unit fires in the second Test. By the looks of it, the pitch will assist them. In that case, they will have to be able to exploit the conditions. In the two previous Tests at this venue, featuring Australia in 2017 and South Africa two years later, spinners accounted for 39 of the 65 wickets to fall. When it comes to Indian spinners, they took 24 of the 40 wickets the team claimed. Add to this that Australia’s Steeve O’Keefe claimed identical figures of 6/35 in two innings in 2017 and you’ll get an idea what type of bowling this pitch favours. The Indian team has added intrigue to the drama by including Washington Sundar in the squad. Although primarily a batter in his under-19 days, this Tamil Nadu player has often been considered for the spin-bowling all-rounder’s slot when it comes to representing the senior side. Initially, it was thought that Ashwin had a niggle and his statemate had been taken as a cover for him. India’s assistant coach, however, dispelled that notion. “Ashwin is absolutely fine. He bowled nicely. I know he bowled only two overs in the second innings (in Bengaluru). But it looked like his pace and his rhythm were back to where it needs to be,” said Ten Doeschate. In that case, Washington’s inclusion leads to speculations whether he will be in the XI, given that there are a number of left-handers in the Kiwi batting line-up. “With four left-handers in their XI, we want the option to take the ball away from the left-handers as well. We’re prepared for the conditions and if that does mean taking the ball away from the left-hander, we want that option.” Jasprit Bumrah and his bagful of tricks will of course be a big hope for India in this must-win Test.
The spinners will also have to play a significant role. As far as early pitch reports go, things could be in their favour. Will they be able to take advantage? The answer to this will go a long way in determining the fate of the team in its comeback bid.
