Tamika, my beloved.
Wedding looks aside, what's her style like? She has no clue about Dethklok, what kind of music does she listen to? What are her hobbies besides games? Is she living her dream career or did she have entirely different aspirations growing up? How did she and Damon meet? What's their favorite date night?
Basically tell me everything lol
She's got a super bright and colorful wardrobe! If she would describe her style it would be "high-ranking magazine editor in a mediocre rom-com mixed with a 70s roller rink queen." She and Abigail are about the same size (Tamika is a little shorter and thicker) so they swap clothes a lot, and she's always teasing Abigail for how dark her closet is by comparison. @agaricales drew a portrait of her wearing a top with a fun lemon design and since then I've seen her as someone who fully embraces a pattern, the louder the better. She's also got a nose ring and a couple tattoos though I haven't decided what. She mainly likes pop music, but also enjoys disco. She loves The Ladies—Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna, Tina Turner, Donna Summer. As long as it's got a good beat she can dance to she'll like it. She's managed to carve out an existence where she is not constantly inundated with Dethklok News which Abigail does not understand nor question. Tamika was never the type to have big career goals, very much a "work to live, don't live to work" type. As long as she builds a life full of friendship and love she considers herself a success. As for a job she's an accountant for some corporation where no one actually knows what the company does. Pay's great, generous benefits and vacation time, and as long as she keeps an Excel sheet open people think she's the Businesswoman of the Year. She and Damon met through work! He works in a different department, doing Something Else (he has explained his job several times but it never sticks). He looks like William Jackson Harper as Chidi in The Good Place, but Beefier. They initially bonded about loving Settlers of Catan, and now have a Weekly Game Night where they pick out more and more weird and niche tabletop and board games to play together. Tamika also likes tagging along with Damon on his hobby excursions—birdwatching, spoon collecting, restoring old clocks. She doesn't participate but seeing how much he enjoys it makes her happy :)

Sue is a good PG but she's grossly over hyped and exposed because she is an attractive white women. No black woman is going to come out against anything she gets because they don't want to be perceived as aggressive. Perks of being a white women, you'll always be seen as better than BW and anyone who says otherwise is bullying you.
I don't want to overhype white players on this blog. But I've been following the Seattle Storm since 2004 so I have a Storm bias.
I've spent the last few posts criticizing Courtney Vandersloot hype. I do think Vandersloot is hyped over Chelsea Gray due to race. But Gray and Sloot aren't greats yet. They're each still working on their legacies.
I'm a Phoenix fan. I like Skylar. But Skylar is notorious for struggling in clutch moments. Arike's a clutch god, but she'd rather drop 30 than have more than 3 assists in a game. Maybe I'm biased against one-on-one/scoring point guards. But I just don't put these two on the same level as balanced PGs like Gray and Sloot.
Sue is a vet, so she's a player you compare with other vets. I don't believe you can name one GOAT player. Each great player is impressive in a number of categories. But, no two greats are impressive in exactly the same way.
Tamika Catchings is a basketball super sayan. But she was a point-forward like Taurasi. I don't consider either of them point guards. They're too versatile and they each invented their own position and unique role. They both prefer playing with a point guard over being a point guard. This is why people compare Catchings with Taurasi and Swin Cash rather than comparing Catchings with Bird.
Tweety was a shooting guard, but she played point on a few teams. I'd rather compare her with other legendary shooting guards like Cappie Pondexter and Seimone Augustus.
The fact is, when Sue Bird came into the league, there was a shortage of point guards at her level. The style of play for point guards was different from what she was doing. She set a scoring standard for her generation of point guards. If you weren't scoring over 10, you weren't cutting it. Kara Lawson and Becky Hammon were chasing what she was doing, and Becky took it to an extreme.
Dawn Staley was the starting point guard in Athens while Sue barely played. Sue was the more skilled player and imminent champion in 2004, but Dawn was a better leader and respected veteran. Dawn taught Sue what it meant to lead and command respect from veterans. I think Dawn's legend, her impact on the game, her character, that's what makes her great. I love watching her play, even though she played an older style of the game. She just had a powerful aura. That's why she's a great NCAA coach. Successful college coaches all have that larger-than-life magnetic charisma.
Cynthia Cooper and Sue Bird were two different eras. The WNBA wouldn't exist without Cooper. Is there any way to even compare her with other players? If we're talking about hoop gods, she's the head of the whole pantheon. She set the tone for the level of competition in the WNBA.
As for other white point guards, Becky got hype for carrying her franchise. It's not easy to carry a franchise as a 5'5" point guard. Her rosters were mostly lemons and she made lemonade. Opponents facing San Antonio would double team her. Imagine being that intimidated by a mouse. Also, it's hard to avoid press when you play for Russia in the olympics. The whole country branded her a traitor. That's a lot of press.
Arike's a much more deadly scoring point guard than Hammon was. If Nigeria puts together a competitive enough team, she might play for them in the Paris olympics. And if she does, she'll be the next Hammon. And that would be awesome tbh.

Endangering White people is a bigger crime than killing an innocent Black woman in her sleep. Thousands of demonstrations and millions of protestors later, the only cop on trial for the raid that killed Breonna Taylor isn’t facing a single day behind bars for ending her life. CNN reports that opening arguments began on Wednesday for the trial of ex-Louisville officer Brett Hankison. He faces three counts of wanton endangerment for allegedly firing 10 shots “blindly” into the nearby apartment of Breonna’s White neighbors, Cody Etherton and Chelsea Napper.
Tumblr media
According to Kentucky Assistant Attorney General Barbara Whaley, Hankison did not follow police protocol during or after the raid. That’s a pretty insulting understatement considering there were no narcotics recovered in the botched narcotics raid and Louisville’s finest didn’t even attempt to get medical attention for Breonna.
“Breonna Taylor should not have died that night,” the prosecutor said. “The city of Louisville in a civil matter … paid millions of dollars to Breonna Taylor’s family, but the money did not bring her back. Nothing will.”
Breonna’s killing is little more than a footnote to the state of Kentucky, but Whaley is clearly thinking of the poor white people who are the victims in Hankison’s case.
“You will hear that he shot into the apartment building, “and you will hear that his bullets went through Apartment 4 into Apartment 3 and nearly hit Cody Etherton as he was walking down the hallway into the dining room of his apartment to see what was going on with the banging,” Whaley said during opening arguments
“This case is about Cody and his partner Chelsea, who was 7 months pregnant at the time, and their 5-year-old son, who was sleeping in the bedroom closest to the front door when the bullets ripped through the apartment and out their sliding glass door, into the night,” she continued.
Tumblr media
Defense attorney Stew Mathews opened by saying Hankison’s actions were “logical, reasonable, justified and made total sense,” even though his account of the situation was completely wrong and full of action movie fantasies about the danger Taylor and her boyfriend Kenneth Walker posed to police.
“I saw an immediate illumination of fire. What I saw at the time was a figure in a shooting stance. And it looked like he or she was holding an AR-15 rifle, or a long gun,” Hankison said in an interview taped nearly two weeks after the raid. “I was almost under the impression at the time they were all being sprayed with bullets.”
It’s funny how shooting is only a logical response to an armed ambush when cops do it, but not when a Black couple wakes up to a swarm of intruders in the middle of the night. The only one sprayed with bullets that night was Breonna, who was fatally shot eight times by Myles Cosgrove. Black lives clearly don’t matter much since Hankison was fired 3 months after the raid in June 2020, but Cosgrove remained on the force until January of 2021.
According to Sgt. Jason Vance of the Louisville police department’s public integrity unit, there was no evidence of an AR-15 gun, bullets, or anything similar being fired in the apartment. The delusion of rifle-toting criminals was so vivid for Hankison, but when it comes to the shots he fired that night, his memory got conveniently hazy.
“I don’t recall if I fired as I was going back, but I knew where we were at was the worst place we could be. We were all kind of trapped in that common area,” he said.
“As soon as I returned fire through that window the threat stopped,” Hankison continued. “And I felt pretty helpless, like there is no way we can challenge this guy with an assault rifle.”
Imagine how Breonna felt in those last horrifying moments, Brett. Her mother Tamika Palmer said the “the whole trial is disrespectful in itself,” but she’s maintaining a presence during the trial.
“The purpose of Tamika and family members going to the trial is … that Brett has to see, face to face, (that) — you impacted our family. You did something horrible. You need to be convicted. You need to go to prison,” family attorney Lonita Baker told CNN. “But justice for the neighbors is not enough.”
Hankerson is facing 1- 5 years for each of the three felony wanton endangerment charges. Breonna’s family is still waiting for justice nearly 2 years later.

TRIBE – The Ultimate Carnival Experience for the Greatest Show on Earth. At TRIBE, we pride ourselves on providing the Ultimate Carnival Experience in Trinidad and Tobago Carnival – one of the largest and most popular Carnivals in the world, and commonly referred to as “the greatest show on Earth”. From our humble beginnings in 2004, TRIBE’S mission has been to deliver the quintessential masquerader experience every year by matching the greatest show with the greatest service. In our inaugural year alone, we established a new standard of industry service by becoming the first all-inclusive Carnival band in Trinidad and Tobago. Since then we’ve grown from strength to strength each year, by consistently improving our already unparalleled service to always meet (but typically exceed) your increasing demands and expectations. Over a decade later, TRIBE has completely revolutionized the Carnival landscape, quickly becoming the largest Carnival band in Trinidad and Tobago and surpassing others that came long before it. In spite of such rapid growth, TRIBE never compromises quality over quantity, and we continue to perfect our product by keeping the masquerader at the fore and core of our operations. This unwavering consumer-driven mantra allows TRIBE to boast a consistent ‘sold out’ track record every year since our inception. A true industry pioneer, TRIBE always delivers from our band launch to our Las’ Lap, and we have you covered from registration to the road. Now approaching our 14th year and showing no signs of slowing down, we’re well on our way to one day earning the title of “the greatest band on Earth”, if we haven’t already.General InformationBand Leader: Dean Ackin 2018 Design Team: Monique Nobrega, Gail Cabral, Ruana Evans, Shawn Dhanraj, Solange Govia, Rhion Romany, Richard & Anthony Concepts & Designs Section Leaders Solange Govia | Anya Elias | Anya Ayoung-Chee | Sandra Hordatt | Samantha Ammon | Ruana Evans Marketing Affiliates SCORCH | Air Committee | Illusions Mas | TriniJungleJuice | Corah Ann Sylvester | BOOM Jamaica | UK TRIBE | Euphoria Carnival UK | Xaymaca Carnival (Jamaica) | ICEBOX Entertainment | The Golden Pineapple TRIBE Committee Members Andrea Deoseran . Daily Doodles- Day 110- 03/08/24
Drew my OCs Tamika and Chelsea from my yet-to-be-written story called 'Reluctant Jamette'
Text in the bubbles, 'standard' English translation:
Chelsea: ' Don't listen to them, girl. They don't know the good person behind her.
Tamika: They're kind of right though.
-----
Short exposition: Tamika mysteriously gains super powers that forcefully transform her. She has to fight invading spiritual forces called jumbies before she can transform back.
Her alter ego looks like a demon and the civilians vilify her, eventually dubbing her 'Jamette' (a derogatory word that means whore) as they think she comes straight from hell and the devil (I mean... 👀)
-----
In the picture, Tamika and Chelsea walk past a poster of Jamette that's been vandalized with the word 'demon' in bright red ink. Chelsea, knowing that Tamika is Jamette, tries to reassure her friend that she's not demonic, but Tamika for some reason (👀👀👀) agrees with what everyone else is saying.
I'm looking forward to working on this one! I'm thinking of making a little comic zine to start!
The tag for this is #agdoodles

What are Tamika's plans for NYE and can Vanessa crash them?
What does date night look like for any/all your mentioned ships (yes I just want to see Skwisgaar going on 3 dates why shouldn't he)
Thank you Chelsea. Tamika is Extremely Social and Personable and loves any excuse to throw a party so she is having a BIG bash for New Year's Eve. She's renting out a big hall and inviting everyone she knows. She's going to wear a sparkly floor length gown with a big slit up to her mid thigh and she is going to brag to EVERYONE about her extremely normal fiance Daryl and how he's recently gotten into birdwatching and is CRUSHING it. She's gonna orchestrate a situation where Abigail and Skwisgaar have to kiss at midnight. It's open bar and Abigail probably mentioned Vanessa once eight months ago so of course she's invited. They're gonna get along great. They're gonna do shots. Skwistok Date Night is All Toki, it's moonlit dinners, violin players, rose petals scattered in Skwisgaar's wake. It's A Lot for Skwisgaar. He pushes through once or twice a month but mostly he prefers keeping it low key, putting on a baseball cap and jacket and sneaking out to Dimmu Burger to eat the Bloodless Burder (that's the vegetarian option, it's a black bean burger on a lettuce bun) on the curb. Abigaar Date Night is going on historic house tours and beer tastings at local breweries. Nategaar Date Night is doing some kind of athletic venture Nathan drags Skwisgaar to (he'd be REALLY good at rock climbing if he just TRIED) and musical theater karaoke bars.

Sloot stresses me out with those turnovers, but there's also something to be said about the fact that Chicago seems to only work through her - hence the amazing assists records. Shes incredible, but different styles. With Seattle Sue is directing the plays like a conductor but not always necessarily making the assist - directing it though. (I'm still bitter about Sloots post season record though - it took 2 OTs to break Sue's and suddenly everyone was talking about it like its the same 😂)
Look at the minutes played people!! Sue gets shit done in a timely manner. She's a sweeper. She won in 2020 in 2.5 games. She didn't even need to play the second half of game 3 😂
Sloot's good, but I'm tired of people going "if only she wasn't playing for Hungary! Then she could lead the national team and we wouldn't have to worry."
Um, hold on a minute. Head-to-head, if it's Sloot versus Gray, why does everyone pick Sloot to fill that role? Why does everyone think she's clearly a better point guard than Chelsea Gray? Where's the data to back that up?
I have a lot of doubts about Sloot's leadership abilities. Sloot wasn't that young in 2014, but she couldn't get one game over on Phoenix? Not one? And she had Elena Delle Donne and Sylvia Fowles? Why couldn't she make things work with EDD and Syl? Why didn't VanderQuig, EDD, Syl, and Epiphany Prince become a dynasty? Um, wtf? It's honestly embarrassing they couldn't get a championship with that talent. They had so much time together and it didn't turn into anything. Both EDD and Syl had to move teams before we saw their full potential.
Vandersloot had all those seasons with Sylvia Fowles and couldn't activate her at all. And Syl was no late bloomer. She'd been destroying in Russia with Sue as her point guard since her Rookie year. But Chicago didn't make use of her in the summer. When Chicago finally got an elite point guard, we should've seen Russian Syl in the WNBA. But Vandersloot couldn't make it happen.
Sloot finally got EDD an MVP in 2015. But Sloot didn't have the leadership to get them past the first round of the 2015 playoffs. Sloot had 14 assists and EDD had 40 points in the elimination game. And they were still eliminated. While Sloot was focused on her assist stats, Tamika Catchings was focused on winning. The difference there is leadership.
Sue activated an MVP in her second season. Gray activated an MVP in her third season. But it took Vandersloot 5 seasons and she had no shortage of talented players on her rosters. Sue makes MVPs. Vandersloot stifles them. And what's the national team about? It's about activating MVPs like Sylvia Fowles and Elena Delle Donne.
No wonder Vandersloot took that Hungarian paycheck. She was sick of Sylvia and EDD.

Grading every team in WNBA’s chaotic 2020 offseason
Tumblr media
Photo by Ned Dishman/NBAE via Getty Images
Four stars moved teams, and everyone else tried to keep pace. The WNBA’s superteam movement is here.
The 2020 WNBA offseason is winding down after a full week of the most exciting player movement the league has ever seen. Four game-changing pieces flipped teams in Skylar Diggins-Smith, DeWanna Bonner, Kristi Toliver and Angel McCoughtry, while other teams quietly re-tooled in the W’s new age of superteams.
So who’s made out best so far?
Here’s a rundown of how all 12 teams have done.
Atlanta Dream
Additions: Kalani Brown, Glory Johnson, Alexis Jones, Shekinna Stricklen
Departures: Alex Bentley is still a free agent, Marie Gulich, Brittney Sykes
Most questionable decision: None
The Dream won’t be title contenders in 2020, and their offseason decisions prove they know that. In an effort to rebuild, they shipped out guard Brittney Sykes, on an expiring contract, to land 2019 No. 7 pick Kalani Brown from the Sparks.
Brown was the best player on Baylor’s championship team, and the 6’7 center could be a great building piece for Atlanta. They also signed wing Shekinna Stricklen, a career 38 percent three-point shooter, to a two-year deal, and quality starter Glory Johnson to a one-year deal. The Dream have eyes towards the future, but also gave reason for fans to come watch right now.
Grade: B+
Chicago Sky
Additions: Sydney Colson, Azura Stevens
Re-signings: Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley are expected to re-sign, Stefanie Dolson, Kahleah Copper
Departures: Astou Ndour, Katie Lou Samuelson
Most questionable decision: Trading Ndour for a 2021 first-round pick
The Sky swung and missed on the best free agents available, leaving them steps behind the Mystics, Aces, Sparks, Sun, Mercury and Storm. So instead, they made minor moves, hoping Diamond DeShields breaks out into an MVP candidate to boost the team closer to contention.
The team traded Samuelson along with a first-round pick to land Stevens, a center who was injured for almost all of last season (and who the team could’ve drafted in 2018.) That was a questionable move with a steep asking price. Making a salary cap decision to ship a talented stretch big in Ndour for a first-round pick was confusing, too. The Sky didn’t get much better this offseason.

Connecticut Sun
Additions: DeWannna Bonner
Re-signings: Natisha Hiedeman, Bria Holmes, Jonquel Jones
Departures: Shekinna Stricklen, Morgan Tuck, maybe restricted free agent Courtney Williams
Most questionable decision: None
The Sun landed one of the big four free agents in Bonner, finally erasing the “we don’t have a superstar” label the team threw on itself en route to the WNBA Finals. In fact, now they have two, as the team re-signed center Jonquel Jones. The future of restricted free agent point guard Courtney Williams is still in question, but if she returns, the Sun have unquestionably improved from last year’s great team.
Grade: A
Dallas Wings
Additions: Astou Ndour, Katie Lou Samuelson
Re-signings: Megan Gustafson, Isabelle Harrison, Moriah Jefferson, Imani McGee-Stafford
Departures: Glory Johnson, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Azura Stevens
Most questionable decision: Trading Stevens, and not receiving any players in return for Diggins-Smith
The Wings have one job now: build around Arike Ogunbowale, who was one of the league’s best scorers as just a rookie. To an extent, Dallas has done that by trading for Samuelson, a premier floor-spacing wing and Ndour, a three-point shooting 6’5 big.
Disappointingly, though, Dallas gave up on Stevens, a second-year big from UConn who, if healthy, could become one of the best players in her draft class, for Samuelson. The trade netted the team an additional 2021 first-round pick, which is a win, but may not make up for how valuable Stevens may be. The team also landed three picks for Diggins-Smith, and no players at all. Picks sound nice on paper, but how many rookies can the team expect to keep? The Wings have four of the first nine picks in the 2020 draft.
Grade: B
Indiana Fever
Additions: None
Re-signings: Betnijah Laney, Tiffany Mitchell
Departures: None
Most questionable decision: N/A
The Fever re-signed their restricted free agents, Betnijah Laney and Tiffany Mitchell, and have done nothing else. They’re still sure to miss the playoffs, but the growth of Kelsey Mitchell and Tierra McCowan will be worth watching. The post-Tamika Catchings rebuild keeps (slowly) rolling.
Grade: C
Las Vegas Aces
Additions: Angel McCoughtry, Danielle Robinson
Re-signings: Liz Cambage is expected to re-sign
Departures: Sydney Colson, with Sugar Rodgers, Carolyn Swords and Tamera Young as unsigned free agents
Most questionable decision: Signing McCoughtry
No team in the WNBA has more talent than Las Vegas. The question is if it’s the right talent. The Aces’ problems last year were mostly the result of poor floor-spacing between their two bigs, Liz Cambage and A’ja Wilson. In response, Vegas signed a sub-30 percent three-point shooter coming off major injury in McCoughtry, and added Robinson, a career 13 percent long-distance shooter.
With the Mystics, Storm and Sun stretching the floor on offense and swarming with switchable defensive bigs on defense, I’m not sure how Vegas catches up.

Los Angeles Sparks
Additions: Marie Gulich, Kristi Toliver, Brittney Sykes
Re-signings: Chelsea Gray is expected to re-sign, Tierra Ruffin-Pratt
Departures: Alana Beard (retirement), Kalani Brown, Alexis Jones
Most questionable decision: Signing Toliver to a three-year maximum deal
The Sparks got better, and that’s important as Candace Parker nears the end of her career. Poaching Toliver, who helped the team win a title in 2016, was huge. Not only did the signing take away from the reigning champs, but it added a floor-spacer and leader to a team that desperately needed both.
Will signing Toliver, a 33-year-old who nearly missed half of last season due to injury, to a long-term contract bite LA in the future? Maybe. But with Nneka Ogwumike, Gray and Parker all together and healthy now, the team had to take this chance to win now.
Grade: A-
Minnesota Lynx
Additions: None
Departures: Temi Fagbenle is still a free agent, Danielle Robinson
Most questionable decision: Not matching Phoenix’s offer for Diggins-Smith
The asking price for Diggins-Smith (three first-round picks) was reportedly too much for Minnesota, and the franchise may be a long-term winner for holding onto its assets and cap room. As teams keep filling their roster with bloated contracts for next season and beyond, the Lynx may be able to snatch stars whose teams are unable to pay them for a cheap price.
Still, Lynx fans should be a bit disappointed they couldn’t lure Diggins-Smith, especially with Sylvia Fowles at the back end of her career. At least they’ll have Rookie of the Year Napheesa Collier to watch grow.
Grade: B-
New York Liberty
Additions: Layshia Clarendon
Departures: Bria Hartley
Most questionable decision: Signing Clarendon to a two-year deal
The Liberty’s big addition is going to come in April, when they draft Sabrina Ionescu. For now, they’ve been relatively quiet save for signing Clarendon, the Sun’s point guard who missed the playoff due to ankle surgery.
Signing the former all-star to a one-year deal to mentor Ionescu would’ve made sense, but she’s owed $240,000 over two years to stay in New York. Will the 28-year-old who averaged seven points and three assists for her career be worth that deal?
Grade: B
(This grade may change in the future. We’re still waiting to see if the Liberty trade Tina Charles, who they used their core player designation to retain.)

Phoenix Mercury
Additions: Bria Hartley, Skylar Diggins-Smith
Re-signings: Britney Griner, Yvonne Turner
Departures: DeWanna Bonner, Essence Carson is still a free agent, Leilani Mitchell, Camille Little (retired), Sancho Lyttle (retired)
Most questionable decision: Signing Hartley to a max deal
The Mercury signed arguably the biggest free agent of them all in Diggins-Smith. That’s a huge recovery from losing Bonner who wanted out as a free agent, and none of it would’ve happened without brilliant general manager work. Phoenix was able to sign-and-trade Bonner to Connecticut for three first-round picks. Those picks were then used to land Diggins-Smith.
Then, inexplicably, the Mercury signed Hartley, a backup guard who scored 10 points per game on 36 percent shooting, to a max deal. Phoenix cap-locked itself from landing other free agents in the short term, and gambled with its future cap space. This signing made little sense.
Grade: B
Seattle Storm
Additions: Morgan Tuck
Re-signings: Breanna Stewart
Departures: Courtney Paris and Shevante Zellous are free agents
Most questionable decision: None
The Storm are about to get Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart back after both missed last season due to injury. Those might be the most consequential offseason additions of the winter. With those two back, as well as Jewell Loyd and Natasha Howard, who was an MVP candidate in their absence, the Storm are a favorite to win the 2020 championship. Moving a pick for Tuck was a nice depth move, too. Seattle didn’t need to do anything else.
Grade: B
Washington Mystics
Additions: Leilani Mitchell
Re-signings: Elena Delle Donne, Emma Meesseman
Departures: Kristi Toliver
Most questionable decision: Letting Toliver walk
The Mystics are the league’s reigning champions, and they are bringing the whole gang back together minus Toliver. Washington had a tough decision: keep Toliver at a full three-year max, pray for her health and risk not being able to keep a coveted young player due to cap space in the future, or move on.
They chose to move on after seeing the team win 12 out of 14 games without her in the regular season last year. That move became all the more validated when the team signed Most Improved Player of the Year Leilani Mitchell. Mitchell is coming off the best season of her career, averaging 13 points on 43 percent three-point shooting. The 34-year-old vet should fit seamlessly into D.C.’s pace-and-space system.
Losing Toliver will still sting, though.

NEW YORK | Delle Donne, Parker to captain WNBA All-Star Game
New Post has been published on https://is.gd/vE6OSM
NEW YORK | Delle Donne, Parker to captain WNBA All-Star Game
NEW YORK  — Elena Delle Donne and Candace Parker will captain the WNBA All-Star teams.
Maya Moore was the top vote-getter, but told the league she was unable to perform the captain duties.
“I’m once again blown away at the support I’ve received through votes by our amazing basketball fans. I’m so grateful for all the love,” Moore said. “As somebody who is receiving a lot of attention, I wanted to take an opportunity to broaden that focus. I’m thrilled for everyone selected and now more than ever I’m looking forward to just being a fellow fan of all the greatness I’m surrounded by in this league.”
With Moore passing on the opportunity to be captain, that gave Parker the nod as she finished third in the voting by fans, players, coaches and the media.
“I’m honored to be named captain and am excited to be joined by two of my teammates,” Parker said. “It should be fun and it’s good to see the league mixing it up with the captain format.”
Parker and Delle Donne will draft players from the 20 other All-Stars who were announced Tuesday.
“I’m glad that Maya turned down her role so that I can have the first pick,” Delle Donne said laughing in a phone interview with the AP. “I’ve got everyone’s name written down and their position. You can’t pick wrong as you have really great players out there.”
Delle Donne wouldn’t say who she’s picking first, but did say that she feels loyalty to Mystics teammate Kristi Toliver to draft her.
“The one pick I will give away is that she will be on my team,” she said.
Parker has two Sparks teammates in the pool with Nneka Ogwumike and Chelsea Gray.
Other players that Delle Donne and Parker can choose from include Sue Bird, who made a record 11th All-Star Game, breaking a tie with Tamika Catchings for most all-time.
“Seventeen years ago, if you told me I’d be setting a new record with 11 All-Star appearances, I would have called you crazy,” Bird said. “It’s a testament to my teammates and coaches throughout the years, and an absolute honor given all of the greats who have played in this league.”
Rookie A’ja Wilson will play in her first All-Star contest, as well as Jewell Loyd. Dallas Wings center Liz Cambage will play in her second one. Earlier on Tuesday, she broke the WNBA single-game scoring record when she had 53 points against New York.
“That was incredible, it bumped her up the list for sure,” Delle Donne said.
The WNBA took conference affiliation out of the midseason game and 16 of the 22 All-Stars were from the Western Conference. That group includes Diana Taurasi, Sylvia Fowles and Seimone Augustus.
Fowles, Moore and Augustus will get a chance to play in front of their home fans; the All-Star Game is in Minnesota on July 28.
“It’s going to be great,” Phoenix coach Sandy Brondello said. “There’s so much talent out there, it’s like coaching a USA Basketball team. It’s going to be nice to coach some players that normally I don’t get the chance to.”
Brondello, who will coach Australia in the women’s basketball world cup in September, will be teamed with Parker.
Delle Donne’s team will be led by Seattle coach Dan Hughes, who has guided the Storm to the league’s best record.
The captains will draft their teams on Wednesday. The teams will be revealed Thursday night. The draft won’t be televised, which Delle Donne wasn’t completely upset about.
“I’d like to get one year under my belt,” she said. “Wouldn’t want to be put on blast with selections.”
Fans accounted for 40 percent of the vote, while current players, current head coaches and a media panel accounted for 20 percent each. Players were not allowed to vote for their teammates.
Coaches could not vote for players on their own team.
Moore was the leading vote-getter among fans (47,620). She was followed by Delle Donne (42,171), Parker (38,575), Bird (37,098) and Taurasi (35,687). Fans cast 44 percent more votes than they did last year (873,437 vs. 604,680).
Wilson was the only rookie to make the All-Star list and every team has at least one player in the game except for last-place Indiana.
