holy shit aikatsu stars movie went the whole gay way....i almost feel like its a mirror to tamakos market romance movie..............

no way yume just had all the flashbacks of lauras best moments and then literally said "i like you. i love you. i felt so lonely without you" whilel dramatic music is playing in the background and a beautiful scenery amplifies the moment. what the fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are SO SO gay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Annecy photodump 3 - directors standing on stages

One of the neat things about this kind of big film festival is that if you go to screenings in Bonlieu Grand Salle/Petite Salle - and even the screens in Pathé sometimes - they usually get the directors onstage to give a little intro and then you can applaud them at the end.

Correspondingly, I have a lot of photos of various animation people standing on stages. Here goes.

IIRC this is Vasco Sá, of the BAP Animation studio, co director of Soot, Augur and Garrano (all of which were excellent).

To add on to this story, an AI-based film in the TV films category actually got booed by the audience. By contrast, people laughed at various points during Ryo's film, and many walked out, but they still applauded it at the end.

Several members of the team behind Flow. IIRC, director Gints Zilbalodis is on the right, I can't remember the other peoples roles.

Director Bum-Wook Hur (right) of The Pig That Survived Foot and Mouth Disease. The guy in the red scarf is the main mocap actor whose name I regret not writing down and now can't confirm online. This guy basically played every one of the 30 characters in the movie, which is crazy impressive. No I don't know why they stood so far back on the stage and caught the projector, instead of stepping forward into the spotlights...

I believe this (second from right) is director Shinnosuke Yakuwa of Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window.

GOSH Mochizou’s confession in Tamako Love Story is such an excellent scene. Just LOOK at the setup:

Tamako is being Tamako, rambling on and on about mochi like it’s her entire world. Her passion for making mochi has always been one of her defining character traits and she shows absolutely no sign of changing that. If a royal marriage proposal couldn’t alter the course of her life, then nothing can.

But...

She never considered that the life of her closest friend could change... without her.

What more, her childhood friend is actually in love with her! The force of his declaration physically knocks her back and she takes a spill into the river.

The events of Tamako Market firmly establishes that Takamo puts a lot of value into the same old staying the same old, and Tamako Love Story is all about how she struggles to cope with change.

I cried during this movie. I had to pause and process and profusely wipe my eyes. Tamako was knocked off her feet by tonal whiplash from the anime, and so was I.

It’s brilliant stuff. Plz watch Tamako Market + Tamako Love story.

Tamako Love Story captures the unspeakable agony of young romance, and does so better than just about any movie of its ilk I’ve ever seen. It takes such a huge step up in quality from an already very good show that I wouldn’t hesitate telling people to skip Tamako Market entirely and just watch Love Story. It’s that good.

One of Market’s biggest shortcomings (aside from the Mochimazzi clan, and thank goodness their token appearance in Love Story is brief) is that Tamako is lowkey a fairly uninteresting main character. She radiates sunshine, but hardly faces anything resembling conflict, whether internal or external, and that makes Market kind of slow at times. Love Story changes that.

And it does so with a brilliant narrative twist, introducing the story from Mochizo’s POV before flipping it to Tamako after his big confession. From there we see a once-confident shopping district princess descend into the helplessness of a first love, and this movie nails all of the complicated emotion surrounding it. Everything about Tamako feels unbalanced, and the artwork, music, and vocal performances all make us feel as pleasantly confused as our romantic leads.

The production quality understandably benefits from the movie-sized budget, but so does the movie from the tonal changes, both visually and narratively. The colors lean towards earth tones and the pace drops the frenetic outbursts from Market in favor of grounded interactions (with notable exceptions for joke-telling purposes), and Love Story just feels so much more satisfying as a result. The jokes slap harder, the pathos lands better, the drama feels actually dramatic. If Market is strawberry mochi with a dusting of powdered sugar, then Love Story is heavy daifuku with a rich anko paste and a cup of warm tea.

It doesn’t quite rank as a 10/10 for me, as I feel a little bitter about Midori not feeling empowered enough to explore her feelings for Tamako (*shaking my gay fist*) and exiting this world knowing next to nothing about the shopkeepers, but those are small complaints in the big picture. I love this movie and implore everyone to watch it. 9/10

Jan 4th : my bus broke down so I rounded up 2 girls who live near me and got a cab to uni

Then i got stopped at the gate because I wasn't following the "dress code" which lead to a whole lot of administrative bullshit now I am forced to wear ugly clothes. obviously.

Jan 5th : skipped uni cuz i didn't have a lotta classes and didn't wanna deal with the "dress code" .bought a chill game and only got out of bed to make and eat food . best day of this year so far.

Jan 6th : wore clothes which loosely confirm to the "dress code", my fault for being born as a woman.

Went to bf's house after college Lotta kissing then cooking and eating followed by a heavy dry humping session then he drove me home

Jan 7th : pretty uneventful.have uni on Saturday so horrible dress code , lotta coding went home played dreamlight valley.sleep.

Jan 8th : finally Sunday. Finished my assignments helped friends with their assignments.played all day till it was time to sleep,got Anna and Elsa!!!!

Jan 9th : went lil late to uni cuz the bus was late .bf wore short to play sports*drool*.

we have hoildays coming up so our teacher decided that to give us an assignment which would require us to talk to a lotta ppl our age so we had to do it before the break and I had to talk to so many strangers it was horrible,but it's over now.

Jan 10th : went to uni and did jigsaw puzzles online then looked for good vampire books,failed, helped my friend do an assignment then there was some celebration which consisted of a series of un rehearsed and repetitive performances followed by a "DJ" sesh where everyone "danced" me and my classmates watched from very far away. Atleast the picture of us sitting on the stairs is good ig.

Jan 11th : woke up stayed on my phone. impulsively baked cookies then spent the whole day mostly fishing online. Then my bf infuriates me by telling me he's watching clips of a sitcom with his buddies which I would love for him to watch properly because it's awesome but that's " too boring" or "too slow" meh meh meh meh meh.

Jan 12th : i didn't do anything important.finished reading "king of battle and blood". Toasted bread played my game and though i would stay up all night and play but just slept like an old person :]

Jan 13th : It's be days since I took a shower but I just played my game and toasted bread again.

Jan 14th : day of festival was woke up but loud festive and cinema music around a bon fire went out of my room and my father was awake so we both went to check out the bonfire and music.

Came back home and mom told me I had to do the colouring of the rangoli.then food, shower, food, ride your wave(movie), food, top gun maverick (not a tradition it just kinda happened) and food again then sleep.

Jan 15th : woke up and had to do another rangoli the food then shopping for clothes cuz "dress code" i hate uni :\ ,Burger King then home.

i was also do this thing where I waited to text my bf the same amount of time he took to reply to me so we weren't talking much but he did not notice so ig I'm the idiot. Showed him my dressess thought I'd model some for him but he didn't even see them fast enough so i didn't. Atleast he talked to me at night i.e. he was replying fast enough to hold a conversation.

Jan 16th : woke up late than usual still had to do rangoli for the last day of festival so no more. Fluffy food, the rangoli, pineapple, shower, food, more sleep, bread(i don't not know how to use broil), dreamlight + tamako market, dinner, dreamlight ,

Thoughts:

Slice of Life anime,with light hearted comedy about the every day life of a highschool girl who works in her family's mochi shop.Very pleasant show to have in the backround,I did so while crocheting.Cute animation,doesn't deviate much from your classic anime.Heartwarming messages about community,found family,love and working together throughought every day challenges.Bonus points for queer represantation as the show has one of the main side characters as a canonically bisexual girl who, most probably at one point or another if not the entire show harbours feelings for our main character.Also the inclusion of a much insinuated trans woman.It can get a bit repetitive at times,as there are no major plot twists.The only downside to this mini series I recall after watching was unfortunately the use of a few slightly racist charicatures of two body guards in the last episodes,whom are supposedly from a tropical island whilst other dark skinned characters are normally portrayed in the style the anime posseses...

Personal rating: 7/10

~BONUS~

There is also the movie "Tamako Love story" that revolves around the "will they won't they" main couple of the series.Pleasant and honestly adorable teen love story with a happy ending.Also a nice suprise to see some moments of all the pre established characters growing,developing and evolving,past their fears and facing life's challenges head on.

My Top 10

This list is incredibly biased by my childhood preferences and how sentimental these things are to me. I don’t want anyone to think that I am an overgrown child. I hold things that have a sentimental value to me at a higher regard than what’s “objectively” better. Production quality, budget, date of release are things that never matter when you make something that means something to someone. 

However this list is not ordered in terms of what’s my favorite because I can never pick one favorite media out of everything that’s out there.

Number 10 - Tamako Love Story

This is one of my favorite animes I watched during quarantine. I was always drawn to love stories. This movie is beautifully animated and has a very nice story and conclusion to the story introduced in the show that came before Tamako Market.

Number 9 - The Breakfast Club

I really love this movie even though it does have it’s questionable parts, some jokes that wouldn’t be considered okay today. Regardless this movie really does mean something to me because it was one of the movies I watched before I moved to the US that introduced me to how high school was going to be. Of course that was not the case for me at all but it did help me dream and hope for a better school experience than the one I had in Turkey.

Number 8 - Jujutsu Kaisen

This anime is also one of my favorites because i watched it during quarantine. But it means more to me because I was in an online community that talked about the show every week a new episode came out. I would be waiting for a new episode to air so I could go online and talk about it. I made a lot of friends that way, people my age, and I really liked hearing other people’s opinions. It made the show more meaningful and real to me.

Number 7 - Carry On

This is one of my favorite books. I loved reading it, it was tense, full of lore, and had great characters and one of the best and worst endings I’ve ever seen. I think it’s one of the only books I finished in one sitting. It was 530 pages long.

Number 6 - 10 Things I Hate About You 

Again this is one of the movies that I watched and believed the US to be like. I idolized this movie, thinking the exact same thing would happen to me. It didn’t but watching this movie always makes me feel better, no matter how much I’ve memorized it up until now. I also love the actors in it, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Julia Stiles.

Number 5 - Markiplier

Unlike the other things on this list, Markiplier is a real person, who’s my favorite Youtuber ever. I watched him alongside Jacksepticeye when I was small, from age 9 and so on. I never stopped watching him, even after seeing how he changed throughout the last 9 years, I still enjoy his content a lot. And if I ever do stop watching him, I will have so much respect for him for being such a great person and content creator.

Number 4 - Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

This movie is one of my favorite animated movies of all time. The animation is incredible, after watching videos about the process of making this movie I was so impressed. The artstyle and the color palette makes it so fun to watch. The voice acting is so good. Not to mention I have always been a Spider-Man fan, more specifically Miles Morales fan after having read the book about him.

Number 3 - Persona 5 

Persona 5 is a Japanese RPG game that is about a group of Japanese high schoolers who fight demons at night. It’s very anime-like. The game itself takes about 100 hours to complete. It took a very very long time to come out, because of Atlus’ perfectionism. Because it had mature themes I couldn’t play it when I wanted to, in seventh grade. Therefore I watched a youtube playthrough. That whole year I would watch it whenever I could. I loved the characters and the story. And I loved going online and seeing art that was made by fans about the game.

Number 2 - Life Is Strange

Life Is Strange is my favorite game of all time. If I wasn’t so sentimental about it, it wouldn’t even be on this list. This game came out a day before my 10th birthday. I begged my parents to let me buy it after seeing the trailer. And I played the first part of the game a million times. The art style, music, voice acting, and the heart of this game is so amazing. Especially the music and the visuals, it’s basically a visual dessert. It has gotten its criticisms over the years and I understand and agree with them completely but it still makes me so so happy that I can never imagine ever forgetting it.

Number 1 - 6Teen

6teen is number one on this list because unlike everything else on here, I have been actively watching this show in the last few weeks. It helped a lot as background noise when I did homework but still is so fun to watch. I first watched this show in my junior year and I have loved and rewtached it so many times since then. The show has so much heart and has such realistic characters that it’s scary. It makes me sad now how I never experienced being sixteen the same way they did but at least watching the show helped me feel that.
