The Harbingers

During the MSI 2022 Event there were High Noon Gothic-themed game missions, the descriptions of which told a tale over 10 'chapters' of the then newly released 2022 High Noon skins, over the course of the two-patches long event. Which went a little something like this;

A Western Prophecy A devil named Mordekaiser took everything from Leona's family, and she's gonna get it back. Time to find his train, and beat anyone who stands in her way.

Croaker Broker Leona meets Tahm Kench. He gives her a favor in the form of magic weapons, sure to help her on her mission… and what's a favor between friends, right? Now they are two.

A Bet's Debt Katarina is an enforcer, here to collect on a debt owed to the Outsider' Casino. Ain't nobody that can outrun her… not even Mordekaiser. Now they are three.

Vicious Vermin A Mysterious undertaker in a plague mask appears, brandishing a crossbow and reeking of death. Say's a conductors been taking his souls. Now they are four.

The Enemy of My Enemy Friends they ain't but you know what they say about enemies of your enemies. The four ride together, borardin' Moredekaiser's train. The heist is on.

Death of an Angel Varus was an angel, and now he's dead - but out here in the West, death is just the beginnin'. He can still fight, given some aid. The Five Harbingers are fathered.

Black Magic Woman Samira is a gun-witch in the employ of Mordekaiser, and she don't flinch in the face of a little trouble. The Harbingers meet their first challenge.

As Foretold The strangers name is Talon. 'The Harbingers' [they] sigh, 'I warned him.' Leona wonders what [they] mean. Varus takes aim: this [one] killed him. He wants revenge.

Spurn the Devil Leona confronts Mordekaiser, the King of the Sulfur Rail. It is prophesied that the Harbingers' arrival will usher in the end of days, but first they must lay the devil low.

The Final Ride Our heroes are triumphant, escaping to Angel's Perch. Are they truly creatures of prophecy, bringing the end of days? A storm gathers… they'll find out soon enough.

twitter was having a shit fit earlier when the SGF happened and the s2 cast was revealed and like

i understand part of the rage at two crossovers and bison already being back, people wanted the big faves to come back like the sf3 cast in general, cody, menat, etc

but think of the LORE, gang, the POTENTIAL

and also when it comes to growing rosters and what characters get in, you gotta get used to the odd choices and potential disappointment, this is why the smash dlcs still worked even with characters like piranha plant and min-min, so i was kinda surprised by all the anger on twitter, and it was genuinely hurting my own hype because yeah i didn't think bison should've been added this early either, but since he is here now anyways, it's time to deep analyze on what they could do with this, because they could prove JP to be the bigger bad if they play their cards right

Just a little random rant here, but I'm happy to see myself kicking out art again. I gotta definitely thank Murder Drones and The Amazing Digital Circus for helping me break out of probably the worst artblock I've had in a long time. I enjoy their stories and the animation is so good it makes my dusty heart want to get back into it again.

Now with a bit of the rant part, the previous job I had as a graphic designer sucked absolute ass and the boss even more. There was no HR and if filing reports on the government websites wasn't a pain in the ass I'd have his business investigated. Near my two weeks notice I found a lot of my artwork and things in the dumpster during the mornings we clean up before starting our day. He never asked if I wanted to clean up and pick stuff out of my desk, no I was an artist who saw their Very Own Artwork In A Dumpster and had to fish them out because ITS PORTFOLIO WORK.

The feeling you get seeing your shitty crackassed boss tossing your own creative work into the trash like your a little kid not worthy of anything hurts. I tell you. It hurts. As much as I moved on from that job and work in a stable and respectful environment, that still stuck as a scar on my heart for several months that it's been hard getting back into art and animation again. I havnt been paying attention to my animation classes as much as I used to but I still want to. But I guess seeing a lot of indie animators spring up and rebel against hollywood standard is the kind of thing I need to see lately.

So thank you for inspiring and still kicking on.

I hope you know that literally nobody is going to be able to live up to the standard you, V*v, and Glitch have set and your arrogance and exploitation of your fanbase and connections has screwed millions of creatives out of their dreams because Hollywood is a joke that isn't worth telling and wealthy e-celebs like yourself have claimed the indie scene all to yourselves and moved the goalposts into the stratosphere.

Nope. This isn't a zero sum game. There is not some limited, prescribed number of indie trophy slots that a few studios greedily filled up, blocking everyone else out. That is not how it works. Nothing any other creator is doing - short of personally sending hired goons to your doorstep or stealing your credit cards - is taking anything away from you or preventing your success. In fact if an indie creator can manage to demonstrate that they've got something viable going, it may help to map out a pathway for others.

I think I'm not going to bother trying to address whether or not cartoons in return for support from fans - an entirely voluntary exchange - constitutes exploitation. And I'm living in the Midwest driving a 2007 economy car with 200k+ miles on it, but let's just skip past the assumptions that I'm wealthy and connected too.

Instead, let's get to the weirdly myopic notion that the indie scene is held captive by three studios. Maybe YouTube algorithms or Twitter bubbles are somewhat to blame, but in actuality there are so, so many individual people, friend groups, and small production houses out there making independent animation, I cannot possibly name them all.

By no means a full list. That's just YouTube, and mostly just English language stuff, and I didn't even get to the multitudes of Warrior Cats animation collabs.

The point is, the indie landscape is vast and populated by creators new and old, making all kinds of animated media from skits, to shows, to ARGs, to films. Audience sizes vary as much as the content, stylistic approaches, subject matter, and budgets do. There are no compliance standards, no gateways to entry, no goalposts. There's not even any preset definition of success except what you decide for yourself.

Anyway, instead of nurturing your resentments, consider making something. I assure you, it's a far more rewarding use of your time and energy, and pretty much no one can stop you. ------------- EDIT- Made some additions to the list based on comments. Thanks!
