From • @dailydavidbyrnedances David Byrne's 70th birthday is on Saturday (May 14th) and I encourage everyone to participate in setting this iconic DB photo as your profile picture for his birthday! It'll only take a minute, and I've included it on the second slide and in my story so you can screenshot+crop, or you can DM me and I can send the photo to you! (By the way, my account is still on a break, but I'll be back with new David Byrne dancing videos later this month!) Some context for the photo: In recent years, this has become one of the most iconic photos of David Byrne - him holding a bowl of Cornflakes cereal during a promo photoshoot by Bobby Grossman in 1979 (other people also featured include Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry, and David Johansen) Over the past couple of years, I've seen a LOT of people on different social media using it as a profile picture (including myself), and a few months ago I had the idea that it would be perfect for the community of Talking Heads / David Byrne fans to come together and show a collective appreciation for David on his birthday! Hopefully if you've read to here, I've convinced you to participate (but of course it's your choice) Now, please help spread the word to everybody else you know! At time of posting, David's birthday is tomorrow (I intended to post this on Thursday but forgot), so it might be easier for you to change your pfp as soon as you see this post instead of waiting for Saturday! . . #davidbyrne #talkingheads #talkingheadsband #cornflakes #bobbygrossman #americanutopia #stopmakingsense https://www.instagram.com/p/CdiEkbgOrEjB7qnAu8bHa0erFPdglBhGbkDlMM0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

THEY’RE SO UNUSUAL, no. 9. Talking Heads, Naked. “Mr. Jones is back!” After feeling like Dylan’s Mr. Jones in Ballad of a Thin Man last night listening to Radiohead and knowing something was happening but not what it was, I return to the familiar—*which happens* to allude to the very same clueless thin man. Best known as the album with “(Nothing but) Flowers” which is an A-1 top notch song for right now: it’s so easy to imagine the Pizza Huts and Dairy Queens disappearing and nothing but rattlesnake for dinner but there’s no microwaves so we can’t cook it. You know what? My favorite song on here that isn’t “...Flowers” is “Mommy Daddy You and I,” a beautiful song about immigrants from a kid’s perspective. Go Google it! I love that accordion and found out just now in the liner notes that Johnny Marr provides the twang guitar stings. Many years ago I stuck that song on a mix tape that we ended up listening to over and over in the manual shift yellow Volvo DL I drove around. Kinda makes me nostalgic. This album is usually considered a low point for the band to end on but the first side is solid, solid. It’s not Remain in Light or Speaking in Tongues, but few things are. It’s got some vibes it shares with Little Creatures, and you can tell Graceland’s influence was still rippling through everyone. Anyway. You got it, you got it. #talkingheads #talkingheadsband #talkingheadsnaked #nothingbutflowers #yougotityougotit #mommydaddyyouandi (at Noblesville, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDftnc-gyJj/?igshid=31jkxzw2jaoo

Naked is the eighth and final studio album by Talking Heads, released on March 15, 1988 by Sire Records. The band dissolved shortly after the album's release, but did not announce their breakup until 1991. On Sire Records - 1-25654. Naked was well-received by critics, who hailed it as a vast improvement over True Stories. Chris Willman from the Los Angeles Times said the band abandoned "the stripped-down four-piece rock approach of late" in favor of a "far more eclectic big-band, world music extravaganza." #rockandroll #talkingheadsband #theeighties #davidbyrne #tinaweymouth #chrisfrantz #jerryharrison #sirerecords https://www.instagram.com/p/CFzmq9vl5Xb/?igshid=1s0j05eidorib

Remain in Light is the fourth studio album by Talking Heads, released on October 8, 1980 by Sire Records. It was recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas and Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia between July and August 1980 and produced by longtime collaborator Brian Eno. Following the release of their previous album Fear of Music in 1979, the quartet and Eno sought to dispel notions of the band as a mere vehicle for frontman and songwriter David Byrne. Drawing on the influence of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, the band experimented with African polyrhythms, funk, and electronics, recording instrumental tracks as a series of looping grooves. The sessions incorporated a variety of side musicians, including guitarist Adrian Belew, singer Nona Hendryx, and trumpet player Jon Hassell. On Sire Records - SRK 6095. #rockandroll #talkingheadsband #theeighties #davidbyrne #tinaweymouth #chrisfrantz #jerryharrison https://www.instagram.com/p/CFsD0PWF2Pi/?igshid=1a0ylwslme214

Fear of Music is the third studio album by Talking Heads, released Aug. 3, 1979 by Sire Records. It was recorded at locations in NYC during April and May 1979 and was produced by the quartet and Brian Eno. The album reached number 21 on the Billboard 200 and number 33 on the UK Albums Chart, and spawned the singles "Life During Wartime", "I Zimbra", and "Cities". On Sire Records - BSK 6076. (Love the album cover with the raised parts, actually feeling like the ‘deck plates’ from my Army boat days) Fear of Music received favourable reviews from critics. Praise centred on its unconventional rhythms and frontman David Byrne's lyrical performances. Considered one of the best Talking Heads releases, and has featured in several publications' lists of the best albums of all time. #rockandroll #talkingheadsband #sirerecords #davidbyrne #tinaweymouth #chrisfrantz #jerryharrison #theseventies https://www.instagram.com/p/CFpRY_TFS5F/?igshid=xojp23f1nj7v
