Finally got treatment for my perimenopause, in the form of an IUD. While it was being implanted, the dr took a biopsy- routine, nbd. Turns out, itā€™s not just perimenopause. I mean, def have that too, but itā€™s not just perimenopause. Nor is it the endometriosis I suspected. Close: itā€™s atypical endometrial hyperplasia, the one that will likely turn into cancer. And itā€™s worrying enough to my dr that she immediately contacted me so she could get me a referral ā€œsometime in the next four weeks,ā€ and THEN the other dr called two days later, AND my appointment is in 6 days. So. I think Iā€™m getting a hysterectomy yā€™all. I do not believe my uterus is gonna make it to 45 with me.
Funny story, the IUD dr was briefly in our book club, so when she couldnā€™t get me on the phone (No caller id? No answer!), she texted my partner. Who flipped out. Insisted I call immediately. Which is how she knows, whoops
Anywho, too afraid to tell anyone irl besides my spouse, so Iā€™m telling the internet ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

If you have asthma and you take the medication Montelukast/ Singulair listen up!!!
I've been dealing with severe asthma since I was a toddler. When I was 2 years old I was prescribed Montelukast. In my almost 20 years of life, I have had suicidal thoughts, major depressive disorder, anxiety, hallucinations, and irregular moods.
Who knew the medication I've been taking for 18 years has all of these side affects.

I highly recommend talking to your doctor and doing some research if you take Montelukast. I'm posting this not to scare people, but as a person who had no idea what the medication I take really does. I was never warned about this by my doctors. My suicidal ideation and thoughts, along with my other problems, have been reported and documented for years. Yet no one ever wondered, because I didn't know to ask.
I am not a doctor. Don't just stop taking Montelukast. Talk to your doctor!!

Yet another detransitioner going around Twitter blaming the healthcare system for *their* personal mistakes. See, I've I lived the same situation, being in a doctor's office and them listing me the possible changes and side effects. And guess what? I chose to wait cause I was scared. I waited a good 8 months before starting T after opening my file at this new clinic. Same thing with top surgery, I got scared so I pushed the date by a month. Nobody forced my hand, nobody stopped me from seeking out more informations elsewhere so I could feel better prepared. Your carelessness is no one's fault.
Framing trans people as these "insane" hrt fiends who would do anything to start medically transitioning is incredibly infantilizing. Yes, it is the doctor's job to provide accurate information about a medication but what you choose to do (or not do) with that information is your fault.

Listen, you should never film strangers in public without their consent, but I swear there need to be fines or something for people who do that shit in some spaces. For example: I had to go to the ER last night, and some jerk filmed a woman who just came in and was clearly having an asthma attack. She immediately got to go back, and he was unhappy about that. Believe me, I get that it sucks having to wait when you're in pain, but you don't get to pick who deserves care when. The medical system in the US is a nightmare, and the ER could be the worst moment of someone's life. No one deserves to be recorded because some jack ass believes someone doesn't look like they need care.
This is fine to reblog. People who film strangers should be shamed if nothing else.

"If men got periods/needed abortion/got ovarian or breast cancer, those resources would be handed out like candy! They'd be more plentiful than ATMs!!"
You mean perisex cis men. You mean perisex cis men. Say what you mean.
I'm a trans man. I avoid all medical care because ninety percent of my doctors have not treated me properly because I am a trans man. I am acutely aware that doctors would be more than happy to not provide me care on the basis of my being trans, even if it costed my life.
Every time I so much as think about the doctors, I'm reminded of men like Robert Eads - of how my care is at the whim of the opinions a doctor has about my life. And because of my own past negative experiences, I hesitate to open my patient portal to schedule an appointment. When I have gotten a good doctor, it's not been the rule, it's the exception. I have a doctor right now who I'm lucky to see, who actually treats me like a human being. I'm celebrating that a doctor finally treats me like a person.
If you want to group all men as being the same, I hope you're willing to have that blood on your hands. Because that care is routinely kept away from men, and it's a real, tangible, systemic issue.
I don't talk about this because I see being trans as this negative thing, but because I want to continue living and I want my trans siblings to live. I understand the frustration that people have who say this - it's another systemic issue that also costs lives. However, I am alarmed at the trend of... forgetting or perhaps erasing that this is still an issue for men, that we literally aren't treated the same as somebody like a cis perisex woman. No doctor has ever treated me like one, and of that I know for a fact. And this is a simple fix - be clear about who you mean when you talk about a group of people or a specific phenomenon. That applies when you are talking about any group of people because, generally, these overgeneralizations will be useless because it can't apply to everyone, and might just hurt a group of people you may not even be intending on hurting.

failure to launch is real.... That's why you're adaptable and have other options available. Does it suck... Yeah. We're human we're all changing daily, we have stresses and other factors in our lives that can affect getting that "green light". Junk happens. We get it, they get it. It's cool bro.

POTS Medication Vocabulary
after about the third time a doctor prescribed a medication that made my POTS drastically worse, and about three doctors visits past giving up on being an easy patient, i started asking my doctors the following questions whenever they prescribed a new long term medication:
is this medication a hypotensive? (will this medication lower my blood pressure?)
does this medication have a risk of tachycardia? (can this medication raise my heart rate?)
is this medication a diuretic? (will this medication dehydrate me?)
can this medication cause hyponatremia? (will this medication cause my body to lose salt?)
your doctor likely doesnā€™t know all of this off the top of their head for every medication, but they should know the most common adverse reactions. some may simply tell you they have no clue. i still think itā€™s worth asking to force them to consider these mechanisms.
for additional consideration:
your pharmacist likely knows the answers to these questions better than your doctor does.Ā
an additional list of types of drugs which should be avoided is available here, in the table on the fourth page.Ā (note that propranolol, a beta blocker, is often prescribed for POTS but is discouraged by this paper. as someone whose taken it, itā€™s worth trying to see if it will improve symptoms, but didnā€™t for me. Additionally, these are just guidelines, and in those with, for example, both hEDS and POTS, the benefits of opiates for pain relief may be worth the risk of worsening POTS.)
regardless of what the doctor says, I always look up the FDA info sheet before taking a medication. these can be found pretty easily on google (your med + ā€œfda pdfā€), and list most of the adverse effects. Iā€™m happy to make a post about reading these info sheets.
thereā€™s a reason prescribing medication is left to those with years of medical training - itā€™s a complicated and difficult process. but oftentimes those who do this work are so overworked and burnt out, they donā€™t have the ability to read someoneā€™s entire medical file, or be aware of an adverse event that only affects those with an uncommon condition. I find asking these questions forces my doctors to think about my chronic conditions, and after so many adverse events, I always check a medication for myself before taking it.Ā
remember that you can and should refuse to take a medication that is making your life worse or harming you. even pediatric patients have the right to refuse a medication, and often times, Iā€™ve found nothing other than a very firmĀ ā€œno, I refuseā€ will get a doctor to consider other options. and even though its against the norm, remember that you have the right to ask your doctor why theyā€™ve chosen that medication for you.
as always, feel free to ask questions, they make my day!

like. thatā€™s rare, right? no other media iā€™ve encountered is immune to it. everything else eventually gets mocking and cynical of its own concept. fucking disney canā€™t make a princess movie without pointing out how stupid true love is. star trek had a whole reboot movie trilogy about rejecting the slower, philosophical roots of the show for cooler, edgy action movies (<- im allowed to say this because i like the aos movies but they Are a different beast from the rest of trek.) and yet doctor who keeps trucking along, whimsical as ever, looking you in the eyes and saying, there is an alien in a blue police box who comes to save the day and for the next forty minutes, youā€™re gonna believe that. itā€™s not that the show hasnā€™t changed or adapted with the times, itā€™s that the change builds on whatā€™s there rather than looking at it disdainfully, oh how stupid those old things were, how great we are now in comparison. itā€™s refreshing!
