Custom Suits Melbourne: The Art of Custom Suits in Melbourne – Elevating Your Style
In the world of men’s fashion, few things rival the elegance and sophistication of a well-fitted suit. For those in Melbourne, the options for tailored clothing are abundant, offering unique opportunities to create garments that are not just outfits, but extensions of one's personality. Here, we delve into why custom suits in Melbourne are the pinnacle of personal style, and what makes this experience truly special.
Why Opt for a Custom Suit?
Unmatched Fit: The most significant advantage of custom suits is the fit. Unlike off-the-rack options, a custom suit is crafted based on your precise measurements. Every detail, from shoulder width to sleeve length, is tailored to create a silhouette that flatters your body and enhances your natural shape.
Personalization: Custom suits allow for endless possibilities when it comes to fabric choices, colors, and design elements. Whether you prefer classic shades like navy and charcoal or more modern hues and patterns, your suit can be designed to align with your unique preferences.
Superior Craftsmanship: The tailoring process involves meticulous attention to detail, ensuring a high-quality finish. From the lining and stitching to the lapel style and buttons, the craftsmanship of custom suits in Melbourne is a testament to the expertise of local artisans.
The Process of Getting a Custom Suit in Melbourne
Consultation: The journey starts with a detailed consultation. During this phase, you’ll discuss your vision, lifestyle, and any specific requirements. The tailor will also take precise measurements to ensure a perfect fit.
Fabric Selection: Melbourne tailors offer a wide range of luxurious fabrics, including wool, cashmere, linen, and blends that cater to various needs—whether for work, formal events, or casual gatherings.
Customization: This is where the fun begins. Select from lapel styles, button counts, pocket types, and other design features. These choices can transform a basic suit into a personalized statement piece.
Fitting and Adjustments: The initial fitting helps refine the suit, allowing the tailor to make necessary adjustments to achieve the best possible fit. Fine-tuning details ensures the suit meets your expectations in terms of comfort and aesthetics.
Benefits of Custom Suits
Durability: Custom suits are made with high-quality materials and precise techniques, contributing to their longevity. With proper care, a tailored suit can last years, making it a worthwhile investment.
Unique Style Statement: Wearing a custom suit is an expression of individual taste. Melbourne’s custom tailoring options provide the ability to experiment with unique patterns, contrast stitching, monograms, and other personal touches that set your suit apart.
Comfort and Functionality: Custom suits are not just about appearance; they are tailored for comfort. The cut and fabric are chosen with your specific needs in mind, ensuring freedom of movement and breathability.
Tips for Getting the Best Custom Suit in Melbourne
Research Tailors: Melbourne is home to many skilled tailors, each with a unique style and approach. Take the time to research and read reviews to find a tailor that aligns with your aesthetic preferences.
Understand Your Style: Before heading to your consultation, have an idea of the look you want. Gather inspiration from fashion magazines, social media, or classic movie scenes for a better idea of what works for you.
Communicate Clearly: Make sure to communicate your needs and expectations to your tailor. This ensures the final product aligns with your vision.
Be Open to Suggestions: Experienced tailors can offer valuable insights into what works best for your body type and occasion. Being open to their advice can result in a suit that not only looks good but feels right.
Conclusion
Choosing a custom suit in Melbourne is about more than just clothing; it’s an experience that empowers you to express your personality and elevate your style. With attention to detail, superior craftsmanship, and a fit tailored precisely to your measurements, a custom suit offers unparalleled sophistication and comfort. Whether for a formal event, professional setting, or simply as a fashion statement, investing in a custom suit is a choice that speaks volumes. Step into the world of bespoke tailoring and discover what it means to wear a suit that truly fits both your body and your unique sense of style.

Tailored Suits Melbourne | Black Tie Classic
In the vibrant city of Melbourne, where fashion and sophistication converge, the allure of tailored suits remains as strong as ever. Renowned for their impeccable fit, quality craftsmanship, and timeless elegance, tailored suits embody the essence of sartorial refinement and individual expression. From boardrooms to weddings, cocktail parties to red carpet events, a well-fitted tailored suit is a wardrobe staple that exudes confidence and style.
The hallmark of a tailored suit lies in its personalized approach to fit and construction. Unlike off-the-rack suits, which are mass-produced in standard sizes, tailored suits are meticulously crafted to the wearer's unique measurements and specifications. This bespoke process ensures a precise fit that accentuates the body's contours, flatters the silhouette, and enhances overall comfort and confidence.
Moreover, tailored suits offer a level of customization and attention to detail that is unmatched by ready-to-wear alternatives. From selecting premium fabrics and luxurious linings to choosing lapel styles, button placements, and pocket designs, every aspect of a tailored suit can be tailored to reflect the wearer's individual taste, personality, and lifestyle. This level of customization allows individuals to create a suit that not only fits impeccably but also resonates with their personal style and preferences.
In addition to their aesthetic appeal, tailored suits are also valued for their durability and longevity. Crafted with precision and care using high-quality materials and construction techniques, tailored suits are built to withstand the test of time and retain their shape and structure even after years of wear. This makes them a smart investment for individuals who value both style and substance in their wardrobe.
Furthermore, the experience of owning a tailored suit extends beyond mere clothing – it is a symbol of craftsmanship, heritage, and tradition. In Melbourne, where fashion is celebrated as an art form and a form of self-expression, the timeless elegance of tailored suits continues to captivate and inspire individuals who appreciate the finer things in life.
In conclusion, tailored suits embody the epitome of sophistication and style, making them a must-have wardrobe essential for discerning individuals in Melbourne and beyond. With their perfect fit, personalized customization, and enduring quality, tailored suits offer a timeless elegance that transcends fleeting trends and makes a lasting impression wherever they go.

an incomplete list of hate crimes in the past fourteen (14) days against jews not in Israel, in no particular order
A shul was defaced with swastikas (Minneapolis, US)
A shul was firebombed (Montreal, Canada)
An ATM dispensed antisemitic banknotes, complete with 'Fuck Jews' (Sydney, Australia)
Swastikas at public high schools (Virginia, US)
Antisemitic stickers at the Boston University Campus ("spreading" from Harvard)
More antisemitic grafitti (Indiana, US)
(or maybe 12) 5 antisemitic attacks in Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland)
(or 13) Swastika grafitti in Pittsburgh, where I live (Pittsburgh, US)
(or 14) A car burned and grafitti sprayed in another antisemitic attack in Australia (Australia)
(or 15) That Melbourne arson attack (Melbourne, Australia)
(or 16) Jordan Acker's home was vandalized (Michigan)
(or 17) The San Francisco Hillel was vandalized with antisemitic grafitti (San Francisco, US)
(or 18) An Israeli in California was wounded after someone DROVE A FREAKING CAR INTO THEM (California, US)
(or 19) Someone intentionally cut off the peyot of a Jewish boy in New Jersey, akin to ripping the hijab off a Muslim woman, only it takes a while for her to get another hijab (New Jersey, US)
Mind you, as far as I know, this was a relatively typical two weeks. Goodness knows there were many more that went unreported. And many of these were basically unreported in the non-Jewish news, because no one really pays attention unless it's something big, like arson. Imagine if some tailor destroyed the hijab of a Muslim girl after saying not to, as her mother begged for him to stop. National news, right? But if it's a Jew - no one cares.
But tell me more about how antisemitism isn't a big problem and I shouldn't worry again.

broadway darling 𖦹 LN4
PAIRINGS: lando norris x sainz!reader
SUMMARY: you and lando never met each other in person despite him being best friends with your brother, but when carlos had dragged him to your opening night, he hated to admit it but he was charmed by you.
REMINDERS: this is purely fiction, the way how the character is portrayed in my story does not reflect the person that is portraying my character in real life. always separate fiction from reality, and do not repost or copy my work in any way.
WARNINGS: no use of y/n in the narrations, photo do not belong to me and all photos are taken from pinterest, inconsistencies of photos, use of y/n on the smau, not proofread, magui, profanities, mean comments, and typos
WORD COUNT: 696
FACE CLAIMS: taken from pinterest
AUTHOR’S NOTE: i missed writing for lando 😭 i made this one shot/smau to appease my broadway x f1 racer agenda in my mind, and since i’m a big fan of les miz and hamilton. though let me know if you want part 2 lol i hope you’ll enjoy this one as much as i enjoyed writing it! this one’s for all the theatre girlies out there (i hope i did you justice 🥹)
It was an unspoken rule that opening nights were sacred in your family. The excitement, nerves, and anticipation of the curtain rising for the first time in Melbourne—it was all part of the magic you had fallen in love with since your broadway debut at sixteen. Tonight was no different, the backstage bustle surrounded you, but you remained calm, dressed in your costume for Fantine, the tragic heroine of Les Misérables.
The makeup team finished their final touches, ensuring every detail conveyed the pain and hope of the character. You took a deep breath, whispering a quiet prayer as the stage manager gave the fifteen-minute warning.
In the plush velvet seats of the packed theater, your family had taken their places. Carlos was flanked by your parents on one side and, to your surprise, his best friend, Lando Norris, by his side. You had heard of Lando countless times through Carlos’ stories, seen him in the occasional instagram post or race weekend interview, but never met him in person. Lando was not exactly the type you imagined sitting through a three-hour musical, but there he was, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, looking slightly out of place but undeniably intrigued.
“I still don’t understand why you brought me with you.” Lando murmured to Carlos as they flipped through the program.
“Because you need culture in your life,” Carlos teased, his voice low to avoid drawing attention. “Besides, it’s my sister. I’m always there to support her.”
Lando just nodded, unsure what to really expect. He had heard of you, of course, Carlos never stopped talking about his little sister’s accomplishments, but he had never seen you perform. Lando wasn’t even sure how someone who belted out ballads for a living would compare to the thrill of racing, but as the curtains rose and you stepped onto the stage, he felt something shift.
When you sang I Dreamed a Dream, the theatre fell silent, and Lando forgot to breathe. He didn’t know much about broadways and musicals, but even he could tell this was something special. There was a rawness in your voice, an honesty that made him feel like you were baring your soul to every person in the audience, him included.
“You good?” Carlos asked, his tone laced with curiosity.
Lando blinked and sat up straighter. “She's…really good.”
“Told you,” Carlos smirked, “she’s a broadway darling for a reason.”
Lando did not respond, his eyes fixed on you as you poured your heart into the performance, and by the time the curtain fell and the audience erupted into applause, he was on his feet, clapping so hard his palms stung. Carlos laughed as he nudged him.
“I think you liked it more than me, mate.” Carlos chuckled.
“She’s, uh, really talented.” Lando flushed, rubbing the back of his neck. Carlos raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
Backstage, you were surrounded by castmates and well-wishers when Carlos arrived, with a bouquet of flowers in hand.
“You killed it out there!” He said, pulling you into a bear hug. “Mamá and Papá are so proud, they couldn’t even stop crying.”
“Thank you,” you smiled, wiping a bit of makeup from your cheek. “It felt good tonight.” You admitted, though your eyes flicked curiously to the familiar figure a few steps behind Carlos.
Carlos caught your glance and stepped aside. “Oh, right, this is Lando. You know him, my best friend.”
“Hello.” You said warmly, extending a hand.
Lando stared at you for a second too long before quickly shaking your hand. “Hey, uh, you were amazing. Like, really amazing.”
“Thank you,” you said, smiling at his slightly awkward demeanor. “I’m glad that you enjoyed it. I never pegged you for a theatre type.”
Carlos snorted. “Oh, he’s not. He didn’t even know who Fantine was before tonight.”
“Hey, I know now.” Lando muttered as he shot Carlos a look, which made you laugh.
“Well, it’s nice to finally meet you, Lando,” you said. “Thank you for coming.”
As you turned your attention back to Carlos to discuss dinner plans, Lando just stood there, hands shoved into his trouser pockets, feeling like he had just been hit by a train.

f1gossip is there something more than just racing between lando norris and the sainz family?
spotted: lando norris attending the opening night of les miserables in melbourne with none other than carlos sainz and his family just days before the aussie grand prix weekend.
the mclaren driver, who’s usually more focused on the track than the theatre, seemed to be all flirty and smiles as he mingled with carlos’ little sister, ynsainz—the broadway darling herself! rumors have been swirling around ever since lando was seen front and center at the opening night, and now, it’s got us wondering…is there something between the two off-track?
while lando’s always kept his private life under the wraps, this cozy night with the sainz fam is raising some eyebrows. could les miserables be just the beginning? are we seeing a new f1 power couple in the making?
drop your thoughts below! ❤️

username7 okay, but if lando is really into her, can we talk about what an upgrade this is from his usual dating rumors? she’s a literal goddess. broadway, west end, and disney??? ma’am.
username8 so lando’s in attendance at les miz in melbourne? okay, that’s cool, but is it bad that i care more about her perfomance than this so-called gossip? priorities, people!
username9 not at all!! everyone here in the comsec acting like they personally know lando or y/n lmao what a bunch of losers
username10 this is a bit of stretch, don’t you guys think? maybe he’s genuinely wanted to be there for support. he’s literally best friends with carlos and close with the sainz, is it now bad to support a best friend’s family member? not every guy and girl showing support or hanging out equates to dating.
username9 SPEAK YOUR TRUTH!!!
username1 finally, someone saying relevant here for once!!!
username11 can we please stop making everything a love story? maybe she’s just being nice and lando’s just being lando
username12 oh you are so sick for tagging the people involved in your nonsense gossip!!! leave them alone!!!!
username13 now why us, broadway fans, suddenly being dragged into an f1 drama? can we just stay away from this and focus on supporting her and appreciating her talent? we don’t need this kind of drama
username14 lol lando is just tagging along with carlos like they usually do! NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A SHIP NOR A DATING RUMOR!
username15 she’s just probably using him for clout lmfao
username16 i don’t ship it, but if carlos approves, i guess it’s fine
username2 ????? weirdo
username17 she’s been killing it on broadway since she was young. why do people always have to reduce talented women to ‘who they’re dating/involved’ with? do better people, you all are really embarrassing
username18 honestly, i don’t really care who she’s dating. just give me tickets to see her next performance 😭
username3 oh you’re so really for this
username4 why do broadway tickets have to be so expensive 😭😭😭
username5 bank heist plan meeting at my house at 8pm, pull up
username6 time to sell feet pics 😔💔
username19 she’s just gonna use lando for fame just like *coughs* magui *coughs* and besides, she wouldn’t be famous if it weren’t for carlos LMAO what a nepo baby
username7 DON’T YOU EVER COMPARED THAT VILE AND WRETCHED WOMAN TO Y/N! THE BLANTANT DISRESPECT. SHES BEEN SELLING OUT THEATRE BEFORE YOU COULD SPELL BROADWAY. CARLOS MAY BE HER BROTHER BUT HER TALENT GOT WHERE SHE IS RIGHT NOW. SIT THE FUCK DOWN. I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON THAT COUGH OF YOURS.
username8 username7 SLAYED, ATE, DEVOURED, LEFT NO CRUMBS
username20 yeah, i don’t really trust her. she’s probs only interested in lando bc of the clout that comes with being an f1 wag
username9 you DISGUST me. clout? clout??? mary, she’s the one with standing ovations every night. meanwhile, you’re hating from your couch. maybe try again.
username21 LANDO IN SPECS 😭😭😭 HES SO DREAMY 🥺🥺🥺
username10 people out here are tearing each other apart and so close in inciting civil war, while you’re out here commenting lando looks good in specs is so REAL 😭😭😭
username11 the vibe i bring to the function:
username22 the whole comsec got me laughing my ass off 😭 y’all are really bursting your nerves over this gossip that is completely baseless 😭😭😭 it’s NORMAL for him to hang out with carlos’ family and show support to carlos’ family member. like what the other commenter said, not everything has to be a dating rumor 😭😭😭
username12 EXACTLY.
username22 these people need to unclench their asshole. like omfg relax, brenda!
username23 if this is true, i don’t like it. lando needs someone who understands his world, not some theatre diva who’s only there for the spotlight
username13 ???? theatre diva ???? she’s literally been called the voice of this generation, a generational talent. she DOESNT need lando or his world, she has her own. stay bitter, though
username24 why are people so mean? she’s insanely talented and gorgeous.
username14 some people are just really fucking opinionated, like they know lando personally and that their opinions would matter. well news flash, lando wouldn’t even bat an eyelash at you nor date you all. fucking weirdos
username25 welp, this isn’t the comment section that i was expecting at all 🧍🏻♀️
username26 is this a civil war between f1 stans and broadway stans? 😭😭😭😭
username27 vroom vroom kids vs. theatre kids
username28 this post alone had incited a civil war between f1 stans and broadway stans 😭

Titbits and analysis 🖖
As promised, some more titbits from the Con yesterday in Melbourne as well as my interpretations. Prior to attending yesterday, I told myself to keep an open mind and attempt to leave any biases behind (even after having seen the funeral pics). Clean slate. To try and view Sam, the event, questions, and subsequent behaviours objectively.
I'm the sort of person who feels energy and is affected by it and in some ways governed by it. The energy of people, both individually and collectively. The energy of a group. I tend to couple this with objective analysis, which forms the basis of my conclusions about people and situations.
I applied this method yesterday in attempting to understand and view Sam, the OL money 💰 machine and everything else. I also just wanted to go there and bask in the audience and enjoy myself....and....I did like it Jamie.
So first thing I noticed off the cuff was how experienced Sam was in handling questions, and the women, and tailoring his behaviour to suit their desires. He was charming, charismatic, approachable, a skilled professional. I saw the veneer. I felt the veneer. I also saw and felt that he is a pretty decent bloke under that veneer. A man with a solid work ethic, who is mild mannered and working with purpose in his life.
I observed that his handler or Convention agent or whatever he is, Steve, was in full control. He managed Sam's performance in a sense. He asked the questions and even set the directions for some answers. Sam is controlled. I didn't like Steve. I didn't get the best vibe off him. Infact, I got a bad vibe off him. I observed that everything was a performance. Scripted to a large degree. The Single Sam narrative was pushed by Steve. Hard. It was a performance. That much was clear to me.
So Sam chose to mention that he was in Austria skiing 2 weeks ago....blah blah...something about singing a Ronan Keating song. So the script tells everyone nice and early that he is NOT with Caitriona ✅️
Later on in the panel, he mentioned that he "was at the theatre in London the week earlier" watching a play. Huh? Getting his timeline confused? Interesting titbit, I thought. Who would he go to the theatre with whilst in London? Who else likes to go to the theatre? Who have we seen him go to the theatre with before? Ding ding ding!!
One of the first things he spoke about (umprompted) and imo was part of his speaking program, was that Caitriona is back home in Scotland doing prep work and will be directing this season. He said that he spoke to her recently and that she is cold and miserable back home. No one seemed to give a shit. The women were there for their Jamie. Sam read the crowd. He understood.
Sam tried to bring Cait into the conversation again saying something like "Where's Claire?....Caitriona isn't here". Again crickets from the audience.
He said that he auditioned with a lot of Claire's, but they couldn't find the right fit and that nobody was as brilliant as Caitriona.
It sounded like he genuinely missed her.
He spoke of his audition with Cait, saying they were very physical and were almost wrestling each other. He said he was sweating all over her and that his sweat was on her. The crowd still only wanted to hear about their Jamie. I think Sam relished in being cheeky in saying that she wore his sweat that day.
Someone asked about "how do you kiss and make out with a costar and then just carry-on. Isn't it awkward"? Sam responded generally initially, saying that there's lots of checking in with the person and apologising afterwards (in a joking fashion). Then that prompted him to start talking about Cait saying that he has also "snotted" all over Cait and exchanged many body fluids with her (in an acting context presumably)and that there's nothing really left to do together that they haven't already done. I was like "whoooaa wtf Sam?". Shooketh that he said that really. The silence from the crowd was palpable. They really didn't want to hear about Cait and Sam and their shared bodily fluids whilst 'acting'. He is THEIR fantasy man. Not Caitriona's. Silence from the audience. Sam already knew that the crowd were Sam onlies but he loved telling this story. Relished in it imo. He loved the double entendre. It was an unrehearsed, unscripted conversation as it resulted from an audience question. I concluded it was an act of defiance on his behalf. That's what it felt like to me.
Steve the convention agent guy, was always bringing it back to Single Sam. "I worry how are you going to get a date" said Steve. With Sam understanding the prompt ...."I worry too" says Sam. Bachelor narrative secured ✅️
Steve spruked the Bachelor narrative again to Sam's thirsty and adoring fans....."Sam you remind me of that old show where everyone has to guess which bachelor is going to come out of the mystery door". And that's when I knew with 100 percent certainty that the bachelor talk was a ruse. It was so contrived and performative. I smiled to myself. The women in the crowd were eating it up.
Another thing that stood out to me was when Sam was searching for the right terminology when talking about Cait. "My......co star" huge pause.
"I love you Claire" is the line he randomly chose to say when explaining his acting.
When asked how he has time to foster friendships and spend time with his family he talked around it. Avoided the question and kept it about his friendships saying that they are strong friendships that endure. He diverged and started talking about how he still has his core friendships that he had when he was bunking and sharing an apartment/house with them in London when he was younger. The veneer was up. Inpenetrable.
At another point in the panel Sam asked "How many Sheila's are there here"? LOL. I found that amusing.
Now this next part captured my attention the most. It had a weird feeling (energy) around it . Sam gave off a weird energy. Almost hostile. Again that's just what I felt.
Someome from the audience named Toni with an "I" was selected to ask a question. I can't remember what the question was but Sam made a really big deal about her being named Toni. "There's always a Tony have you noticed"? Why is there always a Tony"? He said. He didn't want to drop it. He placed a little too much emphasis on it. I was laughing silently but Sam's double entendre didn't go unnoticed by me. Everyone else was clueless or at least that's how it appeared to me. Was that an Easter egg dropped by Sammy?
Asked about what does he do for self care, he seemed to struggle answering that too. He talked in circles about his way points hike and how he's learning how to live in the moment. There's that wall again.
There were many other things discussed of course but I thought I'd focus on the things that shed light on his situation and that resonated with me.
So my closing Analysis? Sam is controlled. He peforms. He caters. He's intelligent and in tune with people and aims to please but is private. Sunday just reaffirmed and solidified my beliefs. Caitriona snatched up that hard working gem of a man quick smart!

leaves with another brownie in his mouth
gets distracted seeing himself in a mirror on the way out

https://www.science.org/content/article/type-hormone-therapy-may-determine-whether-trans-men-continue-menstruate
If you haven't been to science.org in the past month you should get one free article and be able to read it. Also if you turn off Javascript, there will be what looks like the blocking banner, but you can scroll down and read it all. Key takeaway from this preliminary study:
A new study suggests the type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be key. People using a gel or cream were 10 times as likely to continue to menstruate than those receiving injections, researchers report this month in the International Journal of Transgender Health.
Not too long though, full thing below the cut. And here is the link to the actual paper, open access: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/26895269.2024.2403140
Taking testosterone can help transgender men gain “masculine” traits: hairier bodies, deeper voices, and no more menstruation. However, for some trans men, menstruation continues during such treatment, a symptom called “persistent menstruation.” The reasons for this are poorly understood by both researchers and clinicians.
A new study suggests the type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be key. People using a gel or cream were 10 times as likely to continue to menstruate than those receiving injections, researchers report this month in the International Journal of Transgender Health. The work could better help those with gender dysphoria—the mismatch between a person’s gender identity and the one they were assigned at birth.
“Previous data has been mixed about the relative impact of dosage, serum testosterone levels, and route of administration on cessation of menstruation,” says Andrew Fisher, executive director of the Trans CARE program at the University of Chicago, who was not affiliated with the study. “These researchers’ contribution to the literature adds to a growing body of knowledge that will eventually allow clinicians greater ability to tailor [HRT] to individual needs.”
The new research is part of TRANSform, a trans-led study in Australia that tracks the health of trans people ages 16 or older, focusing on topics the community has questions about, such as gynecological care for trans men. Researchers led by sexologist Sav Zwickl and endocrinologist Ada Cheung of the University of Melbourne collected survey data from transmasculine people who were being followed for pelvic pain. The researchers examined data related to the type and length of HRT and experiences of menstruation before and after beginning the therapy. If participants were on HRT for more than 6 months or didn’t experience menstruation before starting the treatment, they were excluded from the study.
The team selected 401 participants ranging from ages 16 to 62, with a median age of 27. Five participants reported themselves as intersex, meaning they had a variation of sex characteristics that didn’t fall into typical male or female classifications.
The age that participants began taking HRT and menstrual regularity prior to taking HRT didn’t matter—what did was the way they took medication. Testosterone HRT is typically offered as either injections or as gels or creams rubbed onto the skin daily. Consistently taking testosterone usually results in stopping periods by the 6-month mark. Although nearly 23% of the participants continued to menstruate after 6 months of HRT, those using gel or cream were 10 times more likely to have persistent menstruation than those taking injections.
The findings could help trans people and their clinicians make decisions about their treatment plan, Cheung says. The work, she adds, is especially important for those interested in halting their menstrual cycle, which contributes to gender dysphoria and distress for many.
Still, more experiments will be needed to confirm the results, Cheung and Zwickl say. Future clinical studies should test the blood serum levels of testosterone rather than relying on survey responses, they say. “The survey nature of this means it’s self-reported,” Zwickl says. “For those taking testosterone for longer, it might mean recollections of when their period stopped and their dosages aren’t entirely accurate.”
Fisher also notes that Australia and Europe use long-acting testosterone, which is chemically different than the testosterone therapies used in other countries including the United States and parts of South America. As such, he says, it’s unclear whether the results of the new study apply globally.
Still, Zwickl says the study is a good first step. They say the high response rate to the survey and the rapport the research group has built with the trans community in Australia allowed the team to be able to conduct such a large study in the first place.
“The field of trans study is in its infancy,” Cheung adds. “It’s useful for trans people to have these studies, to know what to expect from their treatments. And hopefully we’ll continue to build our knowledge base in this area.”
