Man left ‘petrified’ at table just before taking first bite of meal at Taichung restaura|Taiwan News
youtube
The incident took place at a turkey rice restaurant in Nantun District in Taichung. The 45-year-old man, surnamed Chiang, had gone to the establishment for a meal. After his food was served, he was just about to get started when a drop in blood sugar left him completely paralyzed.
If the patient becomes stiff, confused or loses consciousness, they should be placed in a lateral position immediately. Then they can be fed a sugary drink from the side of the mouth to administer some sugar. The doctor says that when administering a drink, it’s best to lay the patient down on their left side, to prevent choking and prevent aspiration pneumonia.

Tiger Sugar, 341 E 2nd St, Los Angeles (Little Tokyo), CA 90012
Tumblr media
Tiger Sugar is a well-known boba brand that started in Taichung, Taiwan in 2017. They’re best known for their brown sugar boba milk. Their oolong tea won a superior taste award from the International Taste Institute in 2021.
Tiger Sugar claims to have a proprietary 8-hour method for cooking their syrups and tapioca pearls and they came up with tiger stripes for their drinks. Recently, they created a new topping, jumbo boba.
The menu includes the black sugar boba milk series (these do not contain tea and the sweetness can’t be adjusted), fruit drinks, tea lattes, matcha series, black sugar espresso series, and featured drinks (all of which have some form of black sugar). Toppings include boba, red beans, jelly, pudding, mochi, crystal boba, cheese foam, taro, etc. They do not have grass jelly. Drinks come in two sizes, Medium and Large and you can specify the desired sweetness and ice levels.
Golden oolong tea latte (Large, $5.95 + $0.75 for jumbo boba), 0% sweetness, light ice: This was okay. The tea flavor wasn’t strong enough and the drink wasn’t creamy. The jumbo boba are large, softm, sweetened coffee jelly balls.
The shop is small with limited seating. They also sold cookies and black sugar popcorn. There was a freezer for their boba ice cream bars but the freezer was empty. I think there’s a rewards program. Also, if you make a purchase, they’ll validate parking for 30 minutes.

Note
the drink game in taiwan is stronggg so i definitely recommend to try sth else off the menu as well!!
milksha (bubble earl grey milk tea)
kebuke (couldn’t find an english menu but 白玉歐蕾is pretty much bubble tea)
ten ren’s tea: black tea latte with pearls
tp tea: tieguanyin (it’s a kind of oolong tea) tea latte/pearls
chicha san chen: you can build your own combination there. it’s a bit more pricey than other tea shops but it’s worth it imo (🚨their only location in taiwan is in taichung)
don’t try bubble tea from coco tea (but try “bubble gaga”. it’s passion fruit tea with bubble and coconut jelly) and 50嵐(don’t know what it’s called in english but the signboard is yellow and blue. i’ve heard some expats/ tourists said it’s so good blablabla. no it’s not)
oh! this is so amazing, thank you so much anon! i'm going to screenshot this and send it to my travel groupchat so we can make sure to hit all of these!
interestingly, i have had ten ren in the US but it wasn't very good...i'm assuming it's because it was in the US lol

international tea trip
parker & @lgchyoseop attend to important matters in taipei
Supposedly Parker had been to Taiwan once when he was very very young, at least according to his parents, but to actually count that seems like a stretch. While his body was there, his consciousness definitely wasn’t; if not, then he probably wouldn’t be as excited to have some free time around Taipei. Or maybe he would. Regardless, almost from the moment Type Zero touched down, he had one thing on his mind — bubble tea —  and he was going to drag Hyoseop along with him.  “Oldest bubble tea shops,” he says out loud in English while he types those same words into his phone. Naturally, his sisters made it a point for he to get boba while in Taiwan. It was probably an international crime not to! (It was not a crime)  “According to this, Chun Shui Tang is the oldest shop, but this post recommends a place called Lettea.. and Taichung… also a few others..” He’s speaking in Korean now by pure habit. He looks up from his phone to look up at his groupmate with a smile and a shrug— honestly, they had a bit of time to kill, but he wasn’t sure if it was worth hitting up every place they could. “You have a preference?”
hyoseop had never been much of a traveler, the furthest he had gone was jeju island. he wanted to travel the world, preferably for a world tour. he was excited to visit taipei, his first time outside of korea. “have you traveled a lot?” he turns and looks at parker, curiosity in his eyes. hyoseop is happy that parker is easy to get along with, and so are his fellow members. hyoseop was a bit scared joining the group, he wasn’t close with any of them, and some he hadn’t even met before, now though, he’s sure time will bring them close.
“i rarely ever drink bubble tea, i wonder how good it’ll be here” he runs a hand through his hair. “i got no preference, you’re free to pick”.

Tiger Sugar is a well-known boba brand that started in Taichung, Taiwan in 2017. They’re best known for their black sugar boba milk and say that they have a proprietary 8-hour method for cooking their syrups and tapioca pearls; they even have their boba ice cream bars for sale at the shop. The black sugar boba milk sounds crazy sweet to me.
The menu includes the black sugar milk series (these do not contain tea and the sweetness can’t be adjusted), tea lattes, tea, black sugar espresso series, and featured drinks (all of which have some form of black sugar). Toppings include boba, red beans, jelly, pudding, mochi, crystal boba, Milo, etc. They do not have grass jelly.
Black tea latte cream mousse (Large, $4.75 + $0.75 for crystal boba), 25% sweetness, light ice: Pretty good. I liked how the cream mousse wasn’t too thick or heavy. The drink was still refreshing though slightly creamy. The tea flavor was there but not that strong. The crystal boba were fine but in small bits – I like larger pieces because I like the texture.
The shop is small with no seating inside. However, they have seating outside. Service was friendly.
