Mardaani turns ten: Tahir Raj Bhasin recalls Aamir Khan praising his performance in his debut film; "I was over the moon when I saw his tweet for me"

Tahir Raj Bhasin commemorates the tenth anniversary of his first film, Mardaani, which marked his Bollywood debut. Pradeep Sarkar directed the film, which stars Rani Mukerji and Tahir Raj Bhasin in prominent roles. This was also the first installment in the legendary Mardaani franchise.

Tahir said on the occasion of the film's tenth anniversary, "As Mardaani clocks in ten years, I look back with tremendous appreciation for the memorable adventure of working on this groundbreaking picture. I am really grateful for the unique opportunity to make my debut in a YRF film directed by the brilliant Pradeep Sarkar and starring opposite Rani Mukerji. I recall being told that, out of hundreds of tryouts, I had been chosen to portray the anti-hero in Mardaani. I cried with joy. The feeling didn't sink in until we all gathered for the first sit-down script reading."

When asked about his first film, Mardaani, which was directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Tahir stated, "It was a transforming experience for me. Working with Pradeep Sarkar was an honor; he was a maverick innovative filmmaker. His advice was invaluable in creating a delightful anti-hero with style and edge. Pradeep sir's portrayal of the anti-hero in Mardaani set it apart. He had an incredible ability to give clear guidelines while also allowing an actor to explore true emotional performances. Every moment spent with him on set was a learning experience."

Tahir commented on his experience working with Rani Mukerji, saying, "Sharing the screen with Rani Mukerji was equally inspiring." She was a celebrity I grew up watching. There was so much to learn from her. Rani Mukerji's presence was captivating, and her expertise and dedication to the role were unrivaled."

Tahir reflected on his path with gratitude, saying, "Landing the role of the anti-hero in the first part of the Mardaani franchise was a dynamic start for me and an experience I will always value."

Manto (2018)

The film is a biographical account of writer Saadat Hasan Manto's life and is set in 1940s India.

I had been waiting to watch this film for ages and finally had the chance to check it out. I am a big fan of Manto’s work. His stories were raw and thought provoking. 

I really enjoyed the film and liked how the director and writer managed to merge some of Manto’s stories into the script. They were short stories, but very powerful. As ever, Nawazudin Siddiqui is an Indian National Treasure because he is just such a versatile actor. I saw Manto, not the actor.

It is a great tragedy that India was partitioned and millions of lives were lost needlessly. Do check it out.
