ZagMonos - Missed Kiss

Summary: The Fate's offspring often receives small visions of the future, which he relays to those who ask about them, including the curious Prince Zagreus. The prince occasionally goes out of his way to prove these prophecies true, both as a favour to his compatriot, and for the reward Paramonos gifts him for doing so.

Author's Note: Pre-relationship, for context. Wanted to do something for Zag and the kiss prompts gave me the perfect scenario!

Paramonos knew Zagreus was back a minute or so before the bubbling of the river Styx, and the accompanying frustrated groan, confirmed as much. Paramonos stood up from the wall he had been leaning against, close to the doorway of the lounge. He pretended that he wasn't waiting for Zagreus to talk to him as he watched the infernal prince discuss something with the House Contractor, and hand over a small pile of gemstones. Paramonos shuffled his weight to his other foot, feeling his divine heart beat faster in anticipation as Zagreus finally, finally, walked up the hallway towards him.

"Hey, Zag!" Paramonos called, getting his attention. Zagreus perked up, and despite his understandably off mood, a sliver of his usual smile cracked through. Paramonos liked his smile; nice, welcoming, and one of the earliest hints of the prince's familiarity with mischief.

"Hi Moe. I think I missed you the last time I was here." Zagreus hopped away from his formerly intended path to his bedchambers to join Paramonos next to the lounge. "I did what you asked. Ten Brimstones, all of them shattered to pieces."

"I know." Paramonos stepped aside to make room for him. He couldn't contain his excitement for long, and any teasing remark about Zagreus' latest escape attempt fizzled away on his tongue as he grinned, "You did it! It happened just the way I foresaw! I think I'm getting better, Zag, genuinely." He pumped his fists in triumph, alight with visible energy. It brought a chuckle out of Zagreus, and Paramonos' smile grew wider. He enthusiastically reached forward and seized Zagreus' hand, pulling it towards himself. Zagreus lurched slightly with the movement, but he snickered again, taking another step closer to Paramonos. Paramonos pushed a small bag of gemstones into Zagreus' palm, similar to the kind Zag had just handed over to the Contractor.

"Here's your reward." Paramonos declared, closing Zagreus' fingers and keeping the hand clasped within both of his own. He leaned in, lowering his voice. "You're doing well, Zag. Keep it up." Zagreus inclined his head, his forehead now close to touching Paramonos' own. Mismatched eyes met his own grey ones, alight with a fire both determined and gleeful. His free hand took Paramonos by the upper arm, holding firm, as if the two of them were brothers-in-arms on the battlefield.

"I won't let you down." Zagreus promised, grave tone somewhat betrayed by his spreading grin.

Paramonos snorted, his brow furrowing in barely-restrained amusement. His hands squeezed around Zag's, thumb absent-mindedly brushing across Zagreus's skin. Their eyes were still locked, staring into each other, faces only a short distance apart. The hand around Paramonos' arm felt warm, only the layer of his sleeve keeping him from feeling the full sensation of it. Zagreus' attention was on him, and him alone, as was Paramonos' on the prince. The stagnant air felt suddenly shrunk around the two of them, seperating them from any other within the House of Hades.

Zagreus exhaled, the sound a brief and wordless expression of joy. Paramonos quietly laughed and averted his gaze to his own sandals. He released Zagreus' hand at the same time Zagreus released his arm, and the two of them took a step back from each other. The air broadened again, returning to Paramonos' non-breathing lungs as he chuckled and reached over to squeeze Zagreus' shoulder.

"I'll let you know if I have any more visions of your escape attempts, alright?" He assured with a nod. Zagreus reached up and held the hand on his shoulder, returning the squeeze.

"I look forward to it Moe." He rolled the bag of gemstones in his other hand, and he flashed that charming troublemaker smile again as he moved away from the wall. "I'll see you later, as long as I'm not out before then, alright? See you around."

"Bye Zag." Paramonos smiled, and happily watched Zagreus make the short jog to the doorway of his bedchambers, waving before disappearing from view. Paramonos' smile lingered, and his fingers brushed over his sleeve, touching the spot where Zagreus' hand had been. Having given his reward to Zagreus for helping train his prophetic abilities, Paramonos turned and entered the lounge, hoping to find a decent place to sit, and something refreshing to drink.

Dunno which idea I like more, Paramonos already being a surprisingly competent fighter when he and Zag agree to spar, or Paramonos being rubbish until Zag trains him

Can't do another Hades run because it's past 11 and it'll be far too late in the night by the time I finish. Completely devastated, I wanna see more of Zag 😭
