translating milgram into tagalog: the purge march
(I have no experience in songwriting but hey I tried)
Magandang araw, mga kaibigan! Simula na ng araw ng kabutihan!
Subalit, maraming masasamang tao na gusto itong gulohin
Hindi tayo puwedeng magpatalo sa kanila, kaya't ang mga may malilinis na puso, ipangaral natin ang katotohanan!
(Utos) Na sundin mo ang iyong kapalaran
(Utos) Huwag pansinin ang mga kabastusan
(Utos) Na ibigay ang puso mo na buo
(Utos) Na maniwala hanggang pagpanaw mo
Nagpapatawad

be careful with my heart (2012)
This is probably an incredibly niche interest, but as with most bright ideas of the 5am origin, I'm going to try to translate Be Careful with My Heart (yes, the 2012 Filipino teleserye) into English.
I can't necessarily throw in subtitles into a video itself (at least, not at this moment) but I'm hoping that it can make this series accessible for those who may not be able to understand Tagalog. :)
For now, I'm just going to translate the episodes I want to do the most, but if this gets any level of interest, I'll try to do them chronologically.
For now, thank you for stopping by!

A google doc of the compiled Episode 8 translations(I'm still making some of them) + Tagalog translations(very self indulgent).
I also made some miscellaneous translations and tagalog cookie names that I'll have to expand in this google doc that I will soon add all of the cookies in CRK.

✦ mga pampang ng newfoundland
a tagalog translation of honeydowo's banks of newfoundland. rated T, 2.4k words.
Noong isang mabagyong araw sa taglagas isinisilang si Newfoundland Soot. Sa pagitan ng ulan na sumasalungat sa araw, papasok sa kalangitang kulimlim at klimang maiinit, ang mga panahon di-mapagkakatiwalaan. Ipinapangalan siyang Fundy ng kaniyang ina. Ganoon pa rin.
maaari itong basahin dito! <3

These are the translatation of poem of Grunkle stan's Wheel of shame in tagalog:
Stanley Pines, ang conman clown, Laging hinihila pababa ang kanyang pamilya. Isang pagkakamali, tinanggihan, tinanggihan, Ang tanging ginawa ay itago. Isang paraan palabas: ang bukas na kalsada. Muling likhain, subukang muli, i-reload.

HiruSena ft. Philippine jeepneys (the most common method of transportation here)
CONTEXT: When jeeps are full during rush hour, it's normal to see two to four men hanging onto the back of the jeep by the railings. This shit is dangerous, because if you lose your grip while the jeep is moving, you'll get into an accident.
This is also something that both Hiruma and Sena would definitely do.
RIP HiruSena, you would have loved commuting via clinging onto jeeps like your life depends on it (and it does)
HiruSena Jeep series: (1/2)
youtube
EDIT: It has a playlist now on YouTube and Spotify!
#My most self-indulgent HiruSena stuff is when I put Hiruma and Sena in the Philippine setting#and I play with them like dolls.#Inspired by the ES21 Tagalog dub#TEAM SABIT ang mga bro na toh eh#(that translates to: These bros are “Team Hanging”)#eyeshield 21#eyeshield21#es21#yoichi hiruma#hiruma yoichi#hiruma#hiruma youichi#youichi hiruma#kobayakawa sena#hirusena#senahiru#sena kobayakawa#hirusena jeep series

Am I learning baybayin calligraphy to test a book theory for 1 historically accurate throwaway detail in SAINTS OF STORM AND SORROW? 🫣 Maybe?
And maybe I just spent 3 hours collecting banana leaves from a condemned apartment building, finding Tagalog Tanaga poems that fit thematically with my novel, SAINTS OF STORM AND SORROW translating the tagalog into baybayin symbols then testing writing implements and copying out 4 different sheets to be stored in different environments to test the long term legibility of said poems 🤣 that's also possible!
But in my defense nowhere on the internet was willing to tell me more than the Wikipedia single paragraph of yes South East Asia and the Philippines used banana leaves as a writing surface pre-colonization. So really this was for science. I will likely be writing up a full blog post detailing my recent adventure into historical recreation and banana leaves, once I've finished using all my extra banana leaves to make suman 😋
Happy Filipino American History month 🇵🇭

i still haven't studied finnish seriously but it's interesting how i keep finding similarities with tagalog despite them being mostly unrelated
#like obvs vocab is different and a lot of pronunciations are different#but they're both pretty full of word forms showing different uses in the sentence#forgot what that was called#lots of affixes#kinda lots of verb conjugation too#tagalog doesn't inflect nouns tho. mostly?#and the 'ng' sound yay#i think the middle vowels (e and i) are fairly similar#and back on the grammar thing. sometimes when i see a finnish sentence and an english tl that doesn't have the same vibe#i try to translate it to tagalog instead#because the nuances of the verbs and nouns come across better imo#amd ofc some words with the same spellings but different everything else#text ko

I've always wondered why certain names are chosen for characters. Is there some inherent meaning in their names or did you just like it. So what's in this case?
It varies between both i guess!
im kinda tragic with character names and have this habit of naming characters after objects or food or whatever i think is funniest in the moment. Its how we have abi being the only one from unconscious effort with a normal name while everyone else is named like prawn or marzipan
I’m also really fond of naming schemes for groups of characters, so sometimes i try to follow some kind of theme when i have to name more than one (the neighborhood kids from clover’s memories do have names and theyre all plant based to go with clover’s, lilac included).
And then other times i just gather some friends around a character and we stare at them and throw out a bunch of names that fits their vibe until something sticks (this is what happened with my fallen kid designs)
#and 2% of the time i chose a word with certain significance and translated it into tagalog. i should start doing that again it was funny#asks#pedia says stuff#not drawing
