edits i made in 2024 ✨
thanks for tagging me krish @i-got-the-feels [x] ♥ am also trying to incorporate the tumblr top ten posts into this bc i don't want to do that as it is, so thank you for tagging me into that antania @riggerbison [x] and zey @fadelsburger [x] ♥
Post your most popular and/or favorite edit/gifset for each month (it’s okay to skip months!)
tagging: @forcebook @thamepo @chezlalune @ruanbaijie @luna-lina @srnileforme @wanderlust-in-my-soul no pressure and if you've done this or something like this already, please send it my way or tag me into the post's replies! i'd love to look at everybody's creations and give them some love :')
JANUARY: morkday + holding hands [x]
the most popular and tbh my personal favorite was this morkday edit i made based on a quote that is from the damn city of bones (2007) by cassandra clare. i didn't know that back when this quote punched me in the face and made me think about it for a couple of days but i honestly laughed when i finally googled it... worked out very well tho! i love hand symbolism, especially in last twilight, and the golden colors are lovely for them ♥ i also ended up loving the last image in this set even if i first struggled with the composition.
this was my number 1 post on my tumblr top ten.
(also gotta add that it still feels insane that last twilight was still going on in 2024... it feels like it was ages ago. i barely remember most of it anymore, probably bc of the heartbreak and trauma. i'm a changed person in january 2025)
rest of the months under the cut bc i ramble!
FEBRUARY: valentine's day vice versa rewatch [x]
my best decision for last year was to rewatch both my school president and vice versa during the time before valentine's day. it healed me, held me gently, filled me with love and warmth. am happy that the set i made after that to show love, once again, for the romance show and soulmates couple of all time was both my most popular and personal fave ♥ i love how the set turned out and how the colors work in this. i will forever be thankful to vice versa for its colors and overall brilliance.
this was my number 8 post on my tumblr top ten.
MARCH: 23.5 episode 3 [x]
it's a close call between several of my 23.5 episode edits but this happens to be the most popular one during this month. i never finished 23.5 which somehow saddens me, but towards the end, i just lost interest, and so this edit series was also left unfinished. i liked the concept tho and loved playing with the colors each week!
tribute to mork methas [x]
personal favorite cannot be any other edit than this bc i put all my heart into creating it. i am still so angry about what last twilight did to mork as a character; how all his trauma and pain was pushed aside, how the story never gave him the space and time he needed, how on top of all else they managed to butcher this amazing man. i don't even want to look at him in episode 12 bc i cannot recognize mork there. he is no that person, at least not to me. mork my beloved, i wish the writers didn't hate you so much </3
(btw i have this whole explanation/essay written under this post in my drafts. it's mostly me sharing in detail the thought process behind me making this edit and going through the several elements in it. if anyone is curious, i can post it, just holler haha)
APRIL: us / thamepo pilot crossover [x] [x]
the most popular edit for this month deserves to be the edit i made for the us pilot that was revealed during gmmtv 2024 part 2. i am still very excited to see the show itself and follow their filming journey occasionally on twt. i am just soooo ready to break my heart over the tragic lesbians woven together with strings of comfort, self-discovery, and heart ache.
this was my number 2 post on my tumblr top ten.
i picked the thamepo sister set as my personal fave bc i cannot separate these two. it was fun to connect them together and switch around the dialogues we hear in these pilots bc they just worked. they had very similar vibes and both talked about somewhat forbidden love. no wonder am currently so into thamepo (i hope it stays that way, am done with all the disappointment i've experienced with shows lately).
this was my number 4 post on my tumblr top ten.
MAY: 23.5 episode 9 [x]
the most popular set of the month. not much else to comment. i love the shot of ciize in this one, she's so cute :(
puentalay k-i-s-s-i-n-g [x]
my favorite for this month! a very impulsive edit that happened solely bc this ear worm of a song (that puen would def listen to) wouldn't leave me alone. it's silly, it's fun, it's cute, it's sexy, it's passionate. it's everything i could ask for! i honestly had a ton of fun with this edit despite having to edit a bazillion (26) separate images for this. the fact that those images are mostly of puentalay kisses makes it worth it.
JUNE: we are episode 12 [x] / 11 [x]
during summer, i was deep in my we are era. i honestly loved each set i made for the series bc for the longest time, i've wanted to make sets like this. i had my struggles with some of them but they all worked out in the end! episode 12 was the most popular one and episode 11 is just my personal favorite bc i love the purple + hints of yellow/golden -combo.
JULY: we are final episode [x]
to honor this show and all its relationships, from romantic to platonic, i decided on a rainbow set. it worked super well and i am happy it was so popular ^^ i miss this whole bunch and the amazing summer we had together. (sorry about the quality of this screenshot, the set is too long to fit it on my screen hhh)
this was my number 10 post on my tumblr top ten.
morkday + pvris songs [x]
probably my favorite set i've made this year overall. my whole year was defined by pvris's music (my spotify top artist) and it felt appropriate to link it together with morkday (and puentalay). i love the layout of this set, the colors, the noise. getting into the lyrics and choosing fitting parts for each image was the best part. my favorite image in the set is the last one that i started from while creating this set. i love the background image for that so much. another one i like is the green one for anywhere but here, bc of the image itself but also bc of the song and its message.
AUGUST: we are couples [x]
due to traveling around a lot in august and being exhausted from that, i didn't create much. but i am extremely happy with this set that is both the most popular and my personal favorite! everything about this one just worked out. i feel like it really summarizes all of these couples and shows their different sides.
as a fun fact, i have to say that i never put too much thought into choosing the animals for each couple, other than picking the bird for chainpun (for obvious reasons). cat for phumpeem came through peem more than phum who is very dog coded to me. instead, dog (or wolf?) ended up with tanfang bc of tan's puppy-like nature. qtoey getting the bunny feels like a stroke of genius given to me during the making of this set bc looking at it now, it's perfect. they have that sweetness and energy in them i connect with rabbits.
SEPTEMBER: sanvee + moon phases [x]
ok i might have lied in the july part bc this might be my overall favorite edit i made in 2024. creating it was a battle tho, and i felt like screaming for the best part of the process bc nothing felt like it was working out and i had a ton of problems while figuring out the aesthetic and the typo and the texts. but it all came together better than i ever expected and i just love this set now. i was happy to see ppl liked this too, so this is the most popular edit of this month.
(oab)plawan + hurt by sleeping at last [x]
it's hard to pick a favorite for this month – despite the sanvee edit already being my obvious FavoriteTM – bc i also love my set for miss mhon (day's mother) [x] that let me went my frustration towards her and my puen x phum parallels set [x] that makes me feel wrong in the head. but i loved this love doesn't have long beans a crazy amount compared to how short and silly that show was. there's just something about oab and plawan - about sailub and pon. they dragged me deep into places with this show and this edit is my ode to that. it was fun to make in its simplicity, i love the colors in it, and pon as plawan is just too pretty (especially when he cries).
OCTOBER: pluto episode 1 [x]
considering how popular pluto has been and how desperate we all are for gls, am not surprised this set is the most popular one for this month. tbh all my pluto edits have been doing quite well in my standards. i love making these so am just happy you guys like looking at them ♥
pit babe pairs + cartomancy [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
never thought 2024 had a sudden pit babe obsession in its sleeve for me but i decided to embrace it. they've talked that the second season would start airing in april, after boys' journey s2 has ended most likely, and i am so very normal about all thi. i've fallen in love with all these boys, both the characters (more than i already was) and the actors, and this edit series only made everything worse. i haven't spent this much time researching things for an edit in a while and i just loved all the analysis i got to do. the process had its ups and downs but overall, i have to say i had a blast.
(picture chosen purely bc i vibed with this kim picture today, tho the kentakim edit might also be my favorite in the set bc the yellow is so good)
NOVEMBER: pluto episode 4 [x]
absolutely deserves to be the most popular set of this month! it's also my personal favorite out of all the edits i've made for pluto. the colors for this one just worked super well and the scenes are perfect, too. let's see how the series ends in two days, i hope i manage to find some fitting colors for the last episode, too :'D
this was my number 6 post on my tumblr top ten.
DECEMBER: yuanyi + you can love him, but you can't keep him [x]
the most popular set and also my favorite of this month, all bc i've gone down the rabbit hole with fangs of fortune. i spent an embarrassing amount of time making this set with all its details; starting from screenshotting the whole damn show and then picking the pictures for this edit from the over 400 images i got, to drawing the golden lines by myself on my drawing tablet so i got them just like i wanted. i shall be making so many more edits for this show, be warned.
this was my number 7 post on my tumblr top ten.
top 10 posts of 2024 then are:
morkday + hands (381 notes)
us pilot (295 notes)
last twilight episode 11 (285 notes)
thamepo pilot (283 notes)
jimmysea for starry magazine (271 notes)

yuanyi + you can love him (231 notes)
vice versa rewatch 2024 (222 notes)
last twilight episode 10 (211 notes)
we are final episode (207 notes)
(you can check your top ten posts here)
it was fun to look back into my year in edits like this and see how i've gone through so many phases in 12 months. i cannot even recognize the person i was in around, let's say, last february. or during summer. it's insane how the night changes or however that thing goes.
thank you if you read this far, and if you've liked my creations or left nice tags under them, i thank you even more! it's an honor to be creating to everybody here and i am grateful that others keep enabling me even when i usually create for myself and maybe two other ppl. it is very important to me tho that i get to be part of this amazing community and don't need to just yell into the void by myself ♥
#tag game#thank you for this!!#also sorry this is So Much#but i am proud of my year :')#i feel like i've made progress again#and i got to make a lot of fun stuff!#my only regret is the 23.5 sets but#those were also fun as an experiment!#despite me dropping the show#last twilight#pluto#we are the series#pit babe#fangs of fortune#us the series#thamepo#century of love#this love doesn't have long beans#vice versa

Tagged by @ervona to post about 5 songs I've been listening to lately! Making a little mix and match playlist based on the half dozen tracks on my phone and songs I've recently discovered. I will detail a bit about each under the cut :)
Nouar - Cheika Rimitti (rai)
Twilight of the Thunder god - Amon Amarth (metal)
What's Golden - Jurassic 5 (hiphop)
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel (pop)
Potions - Puscifer (? rock ?)
NOUAR
A few months ago, the combination of discovering a rai playlist on Spotify based on an artist I listen to with friends and another discovery of a radio station that exclusively plays north african and middle eastern music, the latter which became my go-to listen on the way from work for a while, I discovered this specific track. It's a huge niche hit, unknown to the general public but racking up in the millions of views online among fans of the genre and it's easy to see why! This is an absolutely hypnotic track which cleverly layers it's intrument with a catchy sung melody, periodically cut by the rythmic choir repeating its title. The main singer in the dialog has an outstanding voice and this all makes for a looping, hooking listening experience that makes you want to play it forever.
youtube
Twilight of the Thunder God
In a very different vibe, we have a track that perfectly matches it's overdesigned, historically based (yet inaccurate) cheesy madness of an album cover. This is the only song if this band I'm familiar with as a big hit. Power metal is among some of my favorite genres of music of all time, especially in it's overbearing energy and gratuitous use of double-pedals on the kick drum, fast bass and general theatrics. While I'm not a fan of growled vocals, this track compensates in my mind with one of THE catchiest hooks I know of in the genre. When I listen to TofTG, it's because I suddently remember it one day and get instantly compelled to download it on my phone and scream its lyrics at the sky until it leaves my head where it's stuck. This can take weeks...
youtube
What's Golden
Yet another radio discovery! I'm shamefully bad at hiphop, despite liking the genre a lot, no-one around me listened to it for ages so I don't have similar backlog as in other genres and as such as a grown adult am discovering it all with enthusiasm. This song sums up so many aspects I love in the genre which i'll definitly be using to nail what specific sub-genres are my favorite some day... catchy with a great flow and an instrumental that hooks you, it's impossible to not nod along to the beat and drop what I'm doing to listen to the full thing when it comes up on my playlist.
youtube
Sledgehammer
Yeah yeah it's a classic you all know it. And for a reason! This is one of, if not the only song I know which I can't separate from it's music video. I typically dislike MVs and prefer listening to music in pure audio format, but Sledgehammer comes with such a well crafted, wlel synched and creative film attached that it's always playing in my head when I hear it. This song was introduced to me by a mutual a few years ago which I'll be tagging in this post later as a thank you! I don't get its appeal as a dancey song, but it's definitly a track to dramatically walk to, which is probably the appeal the rest of this site sees in Once in a Lifetime...
youtube
Potions
For the nerds in the audience, this is a Reznor and Maynard collab so you know what you're getting into. The first thing that strikes me in this track is how loud the bass is - it turns the classic rock instrumental it's made from into something else that's just slightly overwhelming. And on top of that, very delicate vocals detail a raw, simple story of love and addiction. Where I chose this song above the many others of the band I'd been listening to a lot last month is this particular theme it has fits very well with a book series I'm reading right now, and it was easy for me to let my mind fly away with it on...:)

Runner ups: The Shame Of Life - Butthole Surfers / Ai vist to Lop - Mont-Jòia / Feuer Frei! - Rammstein / For me, Formidable - Charles Aznavour / It Mek - Desmond Dekker & the Aces

Happy STS! What are your characters' favorite fun facts?
Heya! Been holding off on this because I've mainly been trying to understand it. I'm pretty sure it means just what they think is a cool fun fact so I'm going with that, answering what they'd say about "oh here's a fun fact...". Sorry lol. Excuse to post interesting fun facts.
Lexi - would love the psychology behind friendship if she read about it. Like maybe that animals can make friends or that it's one of the first things infants learn. Or she'll give a cool gardening fact like plants reacting to sound
Maddie - stuff like "did you know that you'd need 40 billion Legos to reach the moon" or random things related to a special interest, and her looking up animals facts will also add to that, such as talking about how cheetahs can't retract their claws
Ash - "did you know Viggo Mortenson broke his toe during Two Towers?"
Gwen - I don't think she'd be able to pick a favorite. She loves reading so she'd probably read a fun facts book at some point about specific topics like music or she'd know the publication history of a series. She also loves researching so she may go down a rabbit hole and then discover something like "hey did you know middle fingernails grow the fastest?"
Robbie - he knows the most random shit. Like "With 13 minutes of end credits, The Lego Movie 2 has the longest amount of end credits for a non-Disney animated film. Thus, it is also the first animated film to use that amount of end credits without post-credits scenes." (From IMDb btw also I pull up this fact at random times)
Akash - knows a lot of stuff about sports. Like how numbers 86, 89, and 92 have never been worn in baseball. Or his a dragon obsession led him to know they first appear in Mesopotamian art as snakes
Jedi - he pulled "intangibles can't breathe while they're phasing!" Out of his ass, as well as thinking of at least 8 powers that Gwen could possibly have been demonstrating in chapter 11. Do not ask him a fun fact about the powers, because he will spend ages listing all of them
Carmen - I don't think she would particularly like the term fun fact. Facts aren't fun, they are just facts! However, she genuinely does find theoretical powers fascinating, so she might list a fun fact about why the existence of dragons is so intrinsically connected to Alii powers , and she also definitely knows a lot of fun facts about the plants and animals in the area, such as what to do if you get yourself stuck facing a predatorial deer
Well, I hope I answered this correctly! If not, hope you enjoyed some fun facts!

#9: Marlowe (2022)
For my Marlowe Movie Master List, we're starting off with both the worst of the 9 adaptations and the most recent: the 2022 Marlowe, starring Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger and made for Amazon Prime.
I don’t have much to say about this movie because I couldn’t make it past the first 10 minutes. It’s not even an adaptation of a Raymond Chandler novel, it’s based on some 2014 novel that “features” Philip Marlowe and I’m going to assume it completely misses the point of hardboiled fiction. I'm tempted to say this doesn't make it a true Philip Marlowe movie, but if the James Bond movies after License to Kill count as canon for that fandom, then this does too.
Normally I love Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger so much that I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in anything but this was just awful from the first scene. Neither one seemed to be making any effort—Neeson wasn’t even attempting to do an American accent (neither was Kruger but that may have been in character for her, I can’t say). Even the background shots playing behind the opening credits were a caricature of Golden Age Hollywood and the LA of the 30s. I have no intention of giving this one a second chance because there’s too many other good movies out there I haven’t seen.
Overall movie score: 0/5, I couldn’t get through the first scene
Marlowe score: 0/5, Neeson wasn’t even trying, for crying out loud he didn't even attempt to do an American accent
Perry Mason score: 0/5, unsurprisingly there weren't any Perry Mason actors of any sort involved with this film
For a reminder of why I started this series and how I'm rating these movies, you can check out my master Marlowe post. I'll be posting my reviews/rankings of the remaining 8 Marlowe movies using the tag #Marlowe movies so if you're interested, follow along!
#marlowe movies#philip marlowe#marlowe 2022#liam neeson#this movie was just so bad y'all#i prefer to think it doesn't exist

before the new year begins — tag game
happy new year, everyone! i've been doing a lot of journaling lately and i came across the written version of this tag from @madamescarlette on the dash and thought i'd give it a try just because i've been practicing more reflection these past few days.
tagging: @petrichor-han, @mosviqu, @straykats, and anyone who'd like to look back on 2024 🤍
share your favorite memory of this year.
off the top of my head, my favorite thing to recall was when i confronted this girl who spearheaded making rumors and talking shit about me and my friend group (mind you, we're college seniors). singlehandedly, one of my most empowering moments. other pleasant memories include campfires and hangouts by the sea across various friend groups, leaping together in joy when we passed our integrated subjects, trying our best not to laugh too loud in the office, and of course, graduating.
2. what was the highlight of your year?
finally getting my degree in accountancy. tough course :') would not recommend :') walked out with two mental illnesses, banger degree ender!
3. list the top five books you read this year.
sit down, this will be a long one. right off the bat, read last january, there is no antimemetics division by sam hughes (qntm), which put me in a crazy mental loop that just made me more immersed into the story than i already was. pet sematary by stephen king, my first step into horror and definitely not my last. there's genuinely nothing i like more than cosmic/domestic horror. this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar and max gladstone, which has everything i truly want in a book—good writing, gays, pining, and time travel. hollow city and library of souls by ransom riggs, which are the 2nd and 3rd books of the miss peregrine's home for peculiar children series. truly, the only books that mattered. the whole thing could've been a banger trilogy bc of them idc idc. i wish i read more than i did this year, but i did my best given how busy i was.
4. list the top five movies you watched this year.
i watched chicago because of the trendy 'we both reached for the gun audio' but i ended up enjoying it far more than i anticipated. a uniquely formatted film musical, banger plot (with social commentary undertones) and banger songs. then i headed into wicked blindly and cried my eyes out with a friend at the cinema. beautiful story between two friends, banger cast and banger songs as well, and just the visuals of the movie were just stunning! all quiet on the western front, a devastating depiction of just how brutal war is. almost a 5/5, if it weren't for the shock factor ending. barbie because it wasn't what i expected a barbie live adaptation to be. it got across what a barbie cartoon movie would normally get across to kids to us adults in the real world. banger monologue, cried my eyes out in my room. cruella, though i watched it too early in the year to recall its impact fully. she was fabulous! i support women's rights and women's wrongs!
5. list the top five tv series you binged this year.
none. sorry, my attention span was just nowhere this year.
6. what is the one new thing you discovered this year (could be a place/hobby/song etc)?
hmm, i discovered that, though it shouldn't come as a surprise, i actually do like journaling and it really does help me in ways i thought it didn't before. i was always so pressured by the aesthetic standards around journaling that it just deterred me from utilizing it for what it was originally meant to be. now i just throw up words onto paper and pray for relief afterwards (which normally happens now!)
7. top three albums that you played this year?
preacher's daughter by ethel cain, the tortured poets department: anthology by taylor swift, and golden age by ethel cain. ethel taking 2 of the 3 spots in justified. i never did shut up about her and i just put her albums on loop in the background for hours while i was playing.
8. your spotify wrapped #1 song
it says good luck babe by chappell roan but i beg to differ. it doesn't say so on other sites like receiptify/volt.fm nor do i feel like i played it enough for it to land first this year. good song tho!
9. your spotify wrapped top artist
i think it was taylor swift? on another site, i have ethel cain which is honestly more accurate.
10. your personal song of the year.
a house in nebraska by ethel cain *sad pole dancing*
11. what is an achievement that you are proud of this year?
again, graduating. it's such a huge milestone in my life that i just can't undermine it. it means so much to me and reaching it lifted a lot of weight off my chest.
12. what are your goals for the next year?
to focus on the other aspects in my life that i neglected in the past few years such as family relationships, mental and physical health, self-improvement outside of academics, etc.
13. any three book releases you are excited for next year.
i'm not really one to look forward to releases but maybe the new hunger games book if its coming out this year. haymitch's story?
14. any three upcoming movies/tv series that you are excited for next year.
again, not one to look forward to movies. i literally had to look these up just to recall but: wicked 2, of course, and the minecraft movie for the hell of it. that's about it.
15. if you could change one thing about the past year what would it be?
i wish i took on more opportunities instead of letting them pass me by.
16. did you manage to stick to your new year's resolutions this year?
my life was too much of a whirlwind for me to even have a new year's resolution at the time. i was anxious and probably depressed and i just kept telling myself, "just one more year and it'll all be over".
17. do you have any new year's resolutions for the next year?
my new year's resolution is to just practice putting myself first and alleviating the pressure i've been unknowingly putting on myself since day one very many years ago.
18. favorite meme of the year?
i think i was too out of orbit to pick out a favorite one. i still keep on recycling all the ones i had since high school lol
19. which month was the most fun this year?
was there such a thing? my whole year was characterized by breakdowns and picking academics over the fun things in life. might've been december. i've been unwinding the whole month.
20. what color do you associate the previous year with?
maroon and/or blood red because that was a brutal year.
21. if you could tell yourself something at the beginning of this year based on what you know right now, what would it be?
apply for it. she'll understand when the time comes and she wouldn't live with the same regrets that i do.
22. favorite viral trend of the year?
i honestly have no idea. maybe the korean cheerleaders???
23. list any three new things you learned this year (could be recipes, a new skill, etc.)
memory keeping in the form of scrapbooking, relearning how to cook based on the recipes my parents have, a lot of workplace-related skills lmfao.
24. how would you describe your year in a word?
rollercoaster, every up just had to come with a down and sometimes it made me wish it just flung me off the track.
25. what color do you want to associate the upcoming year with? why?
a dull grey because this might be the year i become a corporate slave in a physically lively but emotionally dead city. tragic.

Quite some time since I’ve posted anything here really (quite some time is an understatement). (I mostly use my second account wanderingthroughturtlewoods which contains posts of things that I like or inspire me). I was tagged though by @freenarnian 🌷📖 and one does not pass on the opportunity to babble about books that easily :P A book I want to reread: I’m easily bewitched by the siren call of new books so rereading is not something I usually do (although I would like to). There are actually though quite a few books that I’d like to reread, most old favorites such as: -Crime and Punishment and Demons by Dostoyevsky -The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Both books –nonfiction and a fictional alike- awakened my interest in ww2 history many years ago and I would like to revisit them at some point. -Annihilation is short of a recent favorite; first read was a very strange and fascinating experience and I want to see how I would react to the story and themes now. Any books you reread every two to five years: The Tintin series and some other childhood faves such as Harry Potter, Matilda by Roald Dahl, The Fellowship of the Ring and Le Petit Nichola by Rene Goscinny are books that I have read frequently throughout the years. There are some comics/graphic novels that I flip through regularly as well. Any books you reread once a year: There are films or tv series that I tend to rewatch annually (The Secret Garden, You’ve got mail, Ever After, Chocolat and Emma 2009 are some of them) but I don’t really do that with books. So many new stories out there and so little time! 😩 The book you reread within the shortest turnaround time: I’ve done so with some of Anton Chekhov’s short stories, maybe with Crime and Punishment (?); I remember rereading it a year after I first read it which is quite a short period for me. I usually do this with picture books/comics/graphic novels where I want to observe the artwork more closely: -The Golden Age by Cyril Pedrosa is one recent instance, the artwork is simply phenomenal! -Blacksad by Guarnido and Juan Diaz Canales, -Petit by Hubert and Gatignol and This Was Our Pact by Ryan Andrews I have also reread shortly after I finished them. The book you've reread the most times: Quite possibly the Harry Potter series -I reread them regularly as a kid and I’ve read them a few times as an adult as well. Lord of the flies possibly falls into this category -it’s one of my favorite classics and I’d done a project on it years back, so I revisited the story multiple times at the time. The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa, Tintin and the Asterix series I’ve also read countless times in my life! Thank you so much @freenarnian for tagging me! 😊 I tag @annaholak but anyone really is welcome to it! Have fun everyone!

Three Ships: (oh Gods do I need to narrow it down? Can’t even go by recent, they would all be AC-themed. So… Random it is)
1. Ezio Auditore da Firenze / Desmond Miles (Assassin’s Creed)
This one is leading by a small margin over Desmond/Altaїr. Seniority privileges I guess? I have started AC fics (featuring romantic relationships, that is) with this ship. One of my favorite comfort ships. I guess it’s because Ezio is the only Assassin we see having a peaceful, semi-quiet retirement. It’s something that we can get him to share with Desmond – and what better thing there is, after the Temple events? Point is, I adore the sheer softness one can fit into this ship that others don’t quite reach. Let Desmond be spoiled and not be judged for it
2. Hannibal Lecter / William Graham (HBO Hannibal)
This is a shady one with oh-so-many bad touch vibes. But the courtship! The tension! And the sheer fact the intimacy can be seen play as day, and we don’t even have a single kiss to show for it. And I find it a pleasant contrast to a lot of mainstream media these days. The amount of mindgames being played on oh so many levels is just a cherry on the top. Just don’t mind the, uh, matters of tastes. That would be quire rude and rude people don’t fare well in this franchise.
3. Solas / Lavellan (Dragon Age: Inquisition)
Ah, my love for courtly love… Thy strikes again. Now, this is a Bioware RPG so obviously it can branch hard. But it still remains one of the few game romances where you can see the end coming and still paint both characters madly in love. Just… Love doesn’t trump duty, here. You still split - and then proceed to have exactly zero relationships with anyone else till your hastily approaching end. If Ezio/Desmond is a comfort ship, then this one is the angst ship for when one needs a good cry
(I’ll steal the idea and do some honorable mentions myself: Basim/Eivor (no idea how, but it happened), JangoObi (the earlier fics), Arcann/N!Wrath)
First Ship: if we are going by “which one you started to read fics for”, then it would be Kagome Higurashi/Sesshoumaru (Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale)
Last Song: That Unwanted Animal by The Amazing Devil
Last Film: uh… Would TV series do? If so, Dragon Age Absolution (and it was pretty but the plot was eh)
Currently reading: a compilation of Iranian Fairy Tales
Currently watching: Star Wars: Visions, The Golden Girls (1985)
Currently consuming: caffe d’orzo with milk
Currently craving: a quiet week in log cabin in middle of autumn forest
Tagging: @pslamsofpsychosis , @krispyscreams (if either so desire, ofc)
#Personal#No seriously most of what I read at the moment are AC stuff#With some deviations into previous subs

Fallout is a game series set in a retro-future, the aesthetic is taken from the 1950's though the games are set in the 22nd Century. This poster resembles 50's advertisements by looking hand painted and focusing on everyday families enjoying the product.
I like the play on words of 'Trick or Heat' instead of 'Trick or Treat' for this Burger King Halloween ad, the style is also reminiscent of classic B Movie posters and Universal Monster films from 1930's and 40's.
This poster reminds me of the Halftone (or Ben Day dots) colouring method used in comic books in the 'Golden Age' of comic books spanning from 1938-1956, introducing characters like Superman, Batman and Captain America. Halftones would eventually be phased out when more modern methods of colouring were introduced.
Halftones are dots varying in size and colour and compacted closely together to represent shadows or light. The coloured dots are the Primary Colours Cyan,Magenta and Yellow then layered on top of each other to make other colours.
The jelly beans making up the shape of a watermelon and the tag line indicates that this product was released in the summer and encourages buyers to enjoy this as a treat on a summers day.

An Introduction To A Master In Japanese Cinema: Akira Kurosawa
Welcome to my 5-part blog series dedicated to the study of Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and the impact of his works. To begin, a brief overview of him is needed.
Akira Kurosawa was a revolutionary Japanese filmmaker in that his works would be one of the first to bring major attention to Japanese cinema from the West, specifically when his film Rashomon became the first ever film to win a major award in a Western film festival. Following this introduction to the West, his films would then become the centerpiece of Japan’s golden age of cinema.
It’s said that one of the aspects of Kurosawa’s work that helped him in appealing to the masses is how he takes influence from many Western filmmakers, citing John Ford as one of his favorite directors. Alongside that, many of his works adapt the works of Shakespeare, such as Ran adapting the story of King Lear.
One of the most important aspects of Kurosawa’s work is how influential it would become, having many of his films receive well-known remakes by various other filmmakers. Some of these movies include The Magnificent Seven, A Fistful of Dollars, and even Star Wars: A New Hope. As film scholar Michael Jeck would describe: “You can see his influence everywhere in their work,” Of his selection of films, the most influential of them all is his over three-hour long masterpiece: Seven Samurai.
The 1954 film follows the story of a village that has been threatened by bandits and enlist a rag tag team of samurai to protect them. It’s a film that featured the iconic trope of a skilled group protecting a town by also teaching them ways to defend themselves, one that can be found even in Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.
Besides his films themselves serving as major influences, Hollywood directors of the 80s and 90s such as Steven Spielberg, Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola would come to greatly respect him alongside assist him in finding funding when he struggled to do so in his country of Japan.
Director Francis Ford Coppola once summed up Kurosawa’s career as a director with the quote, “One thing that distinguishes Akira Kurosawa is that he didn’t make a masterpiece or two masterpieces; he made, you know, eight masterpieces.”
Director Martin Scorsese says, “Kurosawa was my master and so many others.”
In terms of looking at cinema on a global scale and who the major players were in developing it into the environment it is today, Kurosawa is one of the most important people to mention. In taking influence from the West, he in turn then became an influence on the West, being one of the early pieces of cinema’s globalization in its early post-classical movement. There aren’t many filmmakers that can be considered “masters” of the art form, but through so many of his works persisting throughout time and serving as a such an influence on much of cinema, Kurosawa must be considered a master of cinema.
In the upcoming posts, there will be an even deeper look at Kurosawa in the sphere of filmmaking.

Hi shh I’m not real (I am the roommate of the person this blog belongs to) BUT someone made the mistake of asking me for old movie recs less than a week ago so I have my whole thing typed out and accessible and since some people in the tags are asking for that in a general way…
Golden Age recs for A Friend Tumblr!
Starting with a warning about my personal biases: I am a film noir girlie through and through, I am also partial to a good screwball, and a lot of my favorites will fall in one of those categories. However, I will do my best to give you a more rounded selection! Therefore I’ll have 5 categories: pure classics (the critically acclaimed must watches), noir, screwball, movies by notable director, and miscellaneous at the end. In first three sections I’ll list roughly in order of “importance” (how famous, how much it defines a genre) not favoritism, but I won’t include films that I don’t love myself. In the director section, the films that I personally recommend the most highly will have the year after them. If one falls into multiple categories, I’ll only list them in one for streamlining purposes. I’m (mostly) limiting myself to American sound films from the mid 30s to late 50s- roughly the height of the Hays Code.
CLASSICS:
Casablanca
Singin’ in the Rain
Bringing Up Baby
12 Angry Men
Night of the Hunter
Roman Holiday
Rebel Without a Cause
The Day the Earth Stood Still (if you like this, check out Forbidden Planet)
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Harvey
Anatomy of a Murder
High Noon
SCREWBALLS:
The Thin Man (highly recommended the whole series)
The Lady Eve
Sullivan’s Travels
Libeled Lady
I Married a Witch
Pillow Talk*
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
Bachelor Mother
The Farmer’s Daughter
My Favorite Wife
Rhubarb
Theodora Goes Wild
Jewel Robbery
*(this is a 60s sex comedy, which is a descendent of the screwball, but it technically came out in 1959 so here ya go)
NOIR:
The Maltese Falcon
Laura
Gilda
Mildred Pierce
The Third Man
Sweet Smell of Success
Night and the City
Out of the Past
Niagara
In a Lonely Place
Pickup on South Street
Bad Day at Black Rock
The Harder They Fall
(and then if you decide you really like the vibes and wanna continue, any Robert Siodmak is a good choice)
DIRECTORS:
Billy Wilder:
I cannot stress how much this man’s filmography slaps. He made some of the QUINTESSENTIAL noir, Double Indemnity (1944) and Sunset Boulevard (1950) define the genre. The Lost Weekend and Ace in the Hole are both a little darker, they’re excellent. He’s also really fucking funny, Some Like it Hot (1959) is one of the most classic comedies ever made, though I wanna mention One, Two, Three as one of his lesser known gems. There’s also Witness for the Prosecution, Stalag 17, The Apartment, Sabrina— I cannot emphasize how much this man does not miss.
Orson Welles:
Yes, obviously Citizen Kane has merit, but it’s honestly not a great starting point. The Magnificent Ambersons is ALSO beloved, but I think he’s at his strongest AND most watchable in his noir: Touch of Evil (1958) and The Stranger (1946) are both brilliant
Ernst Lubitsch:
To Be or Not To Be (1942) may be a perfect film. The Shop Around the Corner (1940) is annual viewing for me. He’s all about clever romantic comedies: Design for Living, Bluebeard’s Eighth Wife, and Trouble in Paradise are also delightful.
Frank Capra:
It Happened One Night (1934) is a defining screwball. Capra is known for feel-good movies, some more dramatic (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington), some comedic (You Can’t Take it With You), but I personally never have more fun than when I watch the delightfully over the top Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
Alfred Hitchcock:
Good ol’ Alfie Hitch is a genre unto himself, I’ve seen 15 of his films at this point and I’m STILL missing major ones, so this won’t be balanced between what I like and notable classics, here are my completely subjective 4 favorite Hitchcock films! In order: The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) (he also made this film in 1934. Do not watch that one.), The Trouble with Harry (his only comedy!), Shadow of a Doubt (noir), and Rear Window (actually a classic Hitchcock film)
Joseph L. Mankiewicz:
ALL ABOUT EVE (1950)!!!!!!!!!! That’s essential viewing. I also really enjoy A Letter to Three Wives, No Way Out, and Somewhere in the Night (which is pure noir)
George Cukor:
The Philadelphia Story and Gaslight are both good, and two of his most lauded, but my favorite of his is UNDOUBTEDLY Holiday (1938)
John Huston:
I would be remiss not to mention him, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), The African Queen, and The Asphalt Jungle all come up when you talk film history
Howard Hawks:
I know I said I wouldn’t repeat any but seriously watch Bringing Up Baby (1938). He’s all over the place but he’s good at genre films: His Girl Friday, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, To Have and Have Not
MISCELLANEOUS:
It’s doesn’t really count as a classic because nobody has heard of it, but I highly recommend One Way Passage (1932)
Gene Kelly Musicals:
Anchors Aweigh
For Me and My Gal
Summer Stock
The Pirate (must a movie be GOOD?? is it not enough to be camp??)
Horror (goofy, the good stuff is overseas, watch Vampyr):
Cat People
Creature From the Black Lagoon
Bride of Frankenstein
Mystery of the Wax Museum
All The Best Christmas Movies Are Comedies From The 1940s:
Miracle on 34th Street
Christmas in Connecticut
Holiday Affair
I’m sorry if someone’s asked this before but do you have any vintage movie recommendations? Like what are your favorites
Yes I have tons! But I'm holding off posting them because I don't want to accidentally influence the bracket in any way. If I posted a list when the big tournaments are done, would anyone be interested?
#yes I recognize this is overboard#and that nobody was asking ME perse#but nonetheless I’ve been summoned#and maybe the farmer’s daughter doesn’t quite qualify as a screwball but it’s so delightful

#3: Murder, My Sweet (1946)
This is a great Marlowe movie, an excellent first adaptation of one of the most famous detectives in all of literature.
It stays pretty close to the plot, which is to be expected since Raymond Chandler adapted it himself, and Dick Powell is a great Marlowe. He’s clever and a bit snarky and hits the right note of reluctant hope that I think defines hardboiled detectives—especially Philip Marlowe. And of all the Marlowe novels, Farewell, My Lovely might be the most iconic and the most quintessential Marlowe.
It’s tempting to say that some of the scenes, particularly when Marlowe is being held captive and drugged, are too trippy and too weird by today’s standards, but the vibe is really pretty accurate to how that’s described in the novel and I liked it. I also loved Mike Mazurki as Moose Malloy, though I wish we’d seen a bit more of him. It was also really fun to spot Otto Kruger as Jules Amthor. I’ve been spotting him a lot in movies lately and of course he was in several episodes of Perry Mason.
All in all, these top three spots were really, really close. I love Murder, My Sweet and it's a fantastic movie, it's just hard to top my two favorites. I do think it's easily the best of the Golden Age adaptations and the best that Chandler himself was involved with; it's easy to see how his opinions on Hollywood changed with each adaptation and then were made even more obvious with the novel Little Sister, but that's a different essay.
Overall movie score: 4/5, it's just incredibly done; it follows the plot, has great casting, and is a pretty textbook Golden Age film noir
Marlowe score: 4/5, Powell was fantastic; he really embodied Marlowe's dedication to his clients and personal moral code while also giving of really strong futility vibes, which is perfect
Perry Mason score: 4/5, it has both Otto Kruger and Mike Mazurki, who together appeared in 5 episodes and were always iconic
For a reminder of why I started this series and how I’m rating these movies, you can check out my master Marlowe post. I’ll be posting my reviews/rankings of the remaining Marlowe movies using the tag #Marlowe movies so if you’re interested, follow along!
#marlowe movies#philip marlowe#murder my sweet#dick powell#this really is a fantastic movie#it was so hard to rank the top three#but ultimately i love my top two marlowes a little better than dick powell

I was tagged by @friend-of-giants to share 8 shows to help people get to know me better!
So in no particular order:
1. Sailor Moon (First TV show I remember loving)
2. Game of Thrones (excluding seasons 7 and 8, just you messed it up so bad. It reignited my love for complex fantasy )
3. Dragon Ball Z up to the Cell saga (Australian TV didn't really play past that, but it was on every morning before school. I had a golden Bulma Tazo token that made everyone jelly).
4. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (I'm still mad that the prequel to one of my favourite films got cancelled so quickly, especially with the ending).
5. South Park (early seasons were forbidden so I binged it all as a 16 year old and then kinda lost interest) but this is a shared memory amongst myself and friends.
6. Yellowjackets (most recent show but holy shit it has every fucked up little thing that I love).
7. Skins-seasons 1-4 (was kinda more appealing to me than Gossip Girl... I was an edgy 15-18 year old after all).
8. Mummy Roadshow (I could put a fair few archaeology based doco series here, but this one was probably the most important when it came to my eventual love of material culture and mortuary traditions.)
Feel free to answer this yourself! Also @darth-salem-emperor-of-earth if you want :)
