It started as a joke. It is no longer a joke.

Listen I’ve shipped Malconnor for a while now right and we know this

And then the other day I mentioned I suddenly thought Jake Mason and Malcolm Pace would be cute just because they’re both canon queer ig but I can see it

Anyways the struggle. This is not okay

Because I have to pick one right?? Like I feel like I’m a multi shipper for the most part but for some reason I can’T DO BOTH BUT I CAN’T PICK JUST ONE EITHER

I’m just gonna leave these headcanons here and continue to sob over my predicament.

We’re doing the engineering bfs this time (yeah I made the ship that’s the ship name now fight me) ((unless you got a better one then you can @ me lol))

So Jake and Malcolm right

They weren’t that close before— they knew each other existed, obviously, but they weren’t besties or anything— and then Jake, to put it lightly, was fried

At the time, because there weren’t many people at camp, Malcolm went to hang out with him in the infirmary and keep him company

To pass the time, they worked on different plans to try and catch Festus— what better duo to plan a trap for a massive lethal dragon than a Hephaestus kid and an Athena kid?

At some point Will walks in to see the two of them laying shoulder-to-shoulder on the bed, Malcolm holding up a blueprint for something that looked like a trapfall net for them both to see, heads inches apart as they chatted quietly about the logistics

By the end of that summer, when the Seven (mostly) successfully return, Jake is up and moving again

He’s devastated to take back the title of counselor after Leo lost it, but Malcolm is there to help him out

Neither of them knows when it happens. At some point, the line between friends and something more blurs completely and they cross over it.

It is not uncommon to see them in the forge together, Mal sitting on a work table and reading or something while Jake works on a project

When I tell you these nerds are SO GOOD at paper airplanes

They’ll write little messages and messy hearts on a scrap piece of paper, fold it up, and throw it at each other when they’re not looking

The first time, it’s at dinner

Camp Jupiter was still there, so things were packed

Jake was eating with the other Hephaestus and Vulcan kids, laughing and chatting like any other meal

Something softly hit his cheek, narrowly missing his eyeball

He barely caught it before it landed on his plate

There’s a little heart doodled in the corner of one of the wings in red pen. It’s beautifully folded, crisp and precise edges. He looked to the direction it came from— Malcolm was sitting at the next table over, watching Jake for his reaction with his chin in his hand

Jake smiled faintly, turning to carefully unfold it. There’s one short sentence written there, in red, in very familiar and neat handwriting.

There’s food on your shirt.

Jake laughed out loud, not even bothering to check. He didn’t care if that was true or not, it was cute that Malcolm had to go out of the way to write that, wait for it to dry, fold it up, and then throw it carefully enough that it wouldn’t hit any of Jake’s siblings

When he looked back over, Malcolm was laughing too.

The next time it happened, Malcolm’s reading on his bunk, leaning backwards against an open windowsill

A paper airplane poked him in the back of the head

He twisted around to see what it was, obviously, and he saw the little plane lying in the grass a few feet below

He nearly climbed out the window to reach it, but he was able to grab it and pulled it back into his bunk

It was made of graph paper. Folded lines had been drawn on beforehand, which was impressively planned. Malcolm recognized the neon orange of the scribbly heart in the corner of the wing from the highlighter Jake had eagerly picked out from the city last time they’d gone

The plane’s lines were neatly creased, but Malcolm was able to unfold it easily. The message was a little bit longer than the one Malcolm had written to Jake a few days ago

Your concentration face is cute. Must be a fascinating book. And then, in the bottom corner, —J

The handwriting was a bit messy and unmistakably Jake’s, Malcom would know it anywhere. He twisted around to check the common area again, but his boyfriend was nowhere in sight

He clambered across the bed to his desk, pulling out a fresh piece of paper and his favorite red pen. He clicked it open and began to write:

Oh, are we using initials to sign these now? Let’s go then, J. Let’s live our own book plot.

PS— this book is not in fact fascinating, it’s trig. Summer courses never cease to be an absolute drag.

He nailed Jake in the chest with it a few hours later at dinner

They never stopped doing it

Whenever someone asks what their love language is, they look at each other and half smile and say “Origami.”

Some days, Jake’s scars make his body temperature weird, and it’s too hot to cuddle. He’ll apologize endlessly, but Malcolm will laugh and peck him on the forehead and move over until just their fingertips are brushing

They’re equally smart and equally ADHD, so they can keep up with any kind of conversation, whether it be about an engineering class or debating the emotions of inanimate objects

They’re both insomniacs as well. They will go to the city for ice cream at four in the fucking morning

Now listen… just because Jake is smart doesn’t mean he’s not a dumbass

This is the man who thought marching into a dark forest by himself to face a massive insane mechanic fire-breathing magic dragon would be a good idea (and then got his ass kicked)

Malcolm is high int high wis but only sometimes, because sometimes he’s neither

There are several videos on Jake’s phone of Malcolm walking while reading and running into things

It’s weird and oddly specific but they make really good pizza

Like together

Malcolm is naturally good with cooking because of his mom’s influence on oil, which is like 90% of food in America

And the Hephaestus kids built a brick pizza oven in the back corner of the forge however many years ago and they’re really the only ones who know about it, so the two of them will sometimes skip dinner to make food and eat alone in the forge together

Jake gets heat exhaustion really easily, so Malcolm always has a water bottle with electrolytes and extra vitamins on him

AH fall right into the trap i certainly did!! strawberry - She likes most scents, I would say baked goods are probably amoung her favourites. For scents she hates the main one that comes to mind is lavender as her father reeked of it. even after thousands of years away from him the smell will stop her cold in her tracks.

Cake - Most people think that since she acts quite sweet and polite that she is genuinely a kind person. At the end of the day she is a fairy and her values don't always align with values that a human/mortals would posses. But also for a fairy she is incredibly naive and trusting which people who know how to deal with fairies concerned cause they are trying to find her endgame and there usually isn't one... the end game is to help people even if her idea of help and a normal person's idea of helping aren't always the same.

Cookie - The most sentimental thing she has is this plush of a pink Alicorn named after her adoptive dad Aloe. she has used magic in order to keep in intact over the thousand or so years and it's kind of a semi familiar in her shop though if it were to leave the apothecary it would probably return to cotton and crumble.

Donut - So the crime she is most likely to commit and has committed a lot (sometimes on purpose but a lot on accident) is murder. light straight up when she feels threatened her go to is either to turn someone into a tree or to use vines to zap live energy away and turn them into plant fertilizer. this happens by accident when people can't pay the price for her services but she does her best to mitigate the risks cause she learned very early on when you are responsible for the death of people in a small community they get mad which means a lot more of them end up dead and it's just all bad all around.

Ahhh this was the most fun trapfalling into i've had in a while mwahahahaha!

If is okay that i reccomend a manga, i think you would really like "My next life as a villanese" (also called hamefura i think) is about a girl of the modern world who died and reincarnates as the villain for a otome game and we follow as she try her best (which isn't a lot) to avoid all the bad endings that await her (and getting the story off the rails in the process)

Already saw it, and me and my sister loved it. We’re currently rewatching it, since our mom was looking for new anime, and she enjoys comedy.

It may seem surprising that I’d like it, given my previous statements against the Harem genre, but besides me being a hypocrite, I don’t consider this story as being completely a harem anime. The focus is on comedy rather than romance, Catarina isn’t after any of them (even though we all can agree that Sophia is the only true worth of her, Nicol being a close second), and in general it doesn’t fall into a lot of trapfalls that others animes had, being a point that was clear from the get go that we’ll never know IF or with WHICH character she would end with, because it’s not the point of the plot

So, I’d say that I’m still allowed to badmouth the harem genre and like this anime. I remain undefeated, there’s not a single harem anime where I’m not able to correctly predict the endgame by the end of the first episode/chapter.

I used to be very open and outspoken online, for a long time, and then somewhere down the line that changed and I became scared to share personal stuff, voice my opinions, ask questions etc. It felt like any time I did I got attacked, mocked, rude answers but I also got in my own head just as much - I doubt myself a lot and I’m very insecure and I let that take over and tell me that it was better to just keep things to myself.

Lately I have slowly, very slowly, started posting more and asking more and speaking more and it is such a good feeling. It feels good not to censor myself, not to keep everything to myself, to connect with people, to get and give help, to voice my opinions. It’s still very hard to do so and I’m taking baby steps, but I feel like I’m getting better at it. 

Even now I’m kind of cringing at writing this, because along with the insecurities and self-doubt and fear of reactions I’ve also for a long time been a horrible cynic who can’t stand genuine emotion and vulnerability and really anything more than detached ironic sarcasm. True millenial, I guess, because it feels like that’s very much a common trapfall of my generation, but I think others have been better at shaking it off than I have. 

Weirdly I feel like twitter and reddit are better for this than tumblr - this is too much of a safe space with too little actual interaction and exchanges. Still, sometimes you just want to talk to the void and I guess that’s what tumblr is for. Well, that and memes.

And the same dangerous ideas then get perpetuated in fanfiction, which has its own trapfalls and dangers, partly tying back to the original posts.

Some examples: White fans attacking the real life actors of characters in stories because they’re black.

Prioritizing the obvious villain with no redeeming qualities because he’s white while they villainize the black characters who are the protags, going so far even as to attach crimes to them that actually the white villain did.

Backlash and attacks against black fans when they point out the racism.

just some thoughts but “fiction affects reality” and “fiction isn’t reality” are ideas that really really can and should coexist

As the old fable goes: if you give an electronic musician a hugely successful album, they might just launch their own record label. If they do, they’ll probably start making music under a new moniker. When they start doing that, they’re going to need to create albums that just won’t fit on a single LP. Tatoos

I'd always hated being asked. What did it mean? Why is it so important that you would wear it permanently on your skin? It always seemed too personal. Like a person stepping uninvited too closely within touching distance. Perhaps it was because these tattoos represented me. Words and symbols that revealed to the world what I couldn’t, or wouldn’t show. Hopes, fears, insecurities, even a past unknown. It had taken me all my life to find out and acknowledge those things, and yet people ask about them so casually as if they’re entitled, owed even, to the answer. However, what they do after I give an answer is what makes me really hate the whole process. I’d learnt through countless experiences, but still haven’t found a perfect solution. At first I had tried to explain, but trying to explain your very thoughts and feelings to another person is, not only difficult, but impossible. They know nothing of your experiences and, even if they did, they wouldn’t know the exact thought or feeling because they simply aren’t you. Confusion is often the reaction I’ve received here, and also want of understanding as to why I’d do such a thing because they just could not understand. Some may be able to relate, but no one would ever truly get it. From those many encounters I’ve tried crafting simple and efficient answers that seem to satisfy the overbearing curiosity that appears to plague others. However, with the economic answer, the response is often unimpressed, disappointed even. Imagine revealing to someone something deeply fundamental to who you are, even if its form is compressed and subdued, and being met with disappointment? Essentially silent criticism? It can’t be hard to imagine why I hate it, even if you couldn’t before. My other option is usually to try evade and skirt their questions by being vague. However, being ambiguous is a trapfall. Giving answers that barely hint to something only make people want more. The mystery eats at them and then usually people choose to devour what they desire. Even if it’s just some knowledge that'd be trivial to them at best. Which is why I find their reactions at the direct answer so insulting. They only want what you offer them when you take away that offer. When it becomes allusive and forbidden.
