Caorle Street Piano Festival 2023

Dal 25 al 29 agosto il  centro storico di Caorle proporrà Street Piano Festival, manifestazione musicale giunta alla settima edizione. Diversi pianoforti, sparsi tra le caratteristiche calli della cittadella marina, saranno pronti a creare un’atmosfera unica e un momento all’insegna di musica, cultura e divertimento. Nella prima parte della serata l’evento si svolgerà in modalità free-playing, quando chiunque lo desideri potrà accomodarsi a un pianoforte e suonare, poi la serata si accenderà con la musica  di pianisti professionisti, per concludersi  davanti al Duomo. In caso di maltempo la manifestazione verrà posticipata o si svolgerà al chiuso. A pochi passi dal confine del Friuli, Caorle racconta una storia al tempo stesso antica e moderna. La storia della città inizia sotto il dominio di Augusto, quando le popolazioni locali decisero di fondare una nuova colonia tra il porto di Falconara e Concordia Sagittaria, allora due dei poli più importanti per il commercio romano in terra veneta. Con la caduta dell’impero, il piccolo porto divenne un punto di riferimento per gli abitanti dell’entroterra, che nel VI secolo iniziarono a fortificarlo per difendersi dagli attacchi dei Goti e dei Longobardi. Essendo la cittadina diventata un’importante sede vescovile, nel XI secolo gli abitanti di Caorle iniziarono la costruzione della Cattedrale, dove si trovava una precedente basilica paleocristiana. Agli inizi del XII secolo Caorle divenne parte del Dogado della repubblica di Venezia, oltre ad avere un proprio governo guidato da un reggente locale. Dalla fine del Trecento, con il trasferimento di gran parte della nobiltà locale a Venezia, per la cittadina cominciò un lungo periodo di declino, che si aggravò nel 1379 dopo un saccheggio da parte dei rivali della Repubblica di Genova. Nel XVII secolo Caorle tornò a essere uno dei porti più importanti del Veneto, ma tutto questo fin con l’arrivo delle truppe di Napoleone e il trattato di Campoformio. Con gli Austriaci, nel 1818 la cittadina cessò di essere una sede vescovile e venne annessa al patriarcato di Venezia. Dopo essere diventata parte del Regno d’Italia, nel 1918 Caorle ebbe un ruolo importante nelle ultime offensive della prima guerra mondiale e nel 1944 rischiò di rimanere vittima di gravi bombardamenti da parte dell’esercito tedesco. Sicuramente una chiesa decisamente suggestiva per gli amanti della storia antica è il medievale Duomo, che conserva al suo interno una quattrocentesca Pala d’Oro, donata da Caterina Cornaro, regina di Cipro, mentre al suo fianco si erge un singolare campanile eretto alla fine del X secolo. Molto noto è anche il santuario della Madonna dell’Angelo, che secondo la leggenda fu la prima chiesa eretta a Caorle, oppure la chiesa della Madonna del Rosario di Pompei, edificata alla fine dell’Ottocento. Famosa è anche la chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, costruita negli anni Venti del Novecento, oppure la settecentesca chiesa della Resurrezione. Molte sono le zone che, tra queste la piazzetta medievale, cuore della città, le splendide spiagge, che si estendono per chilometri fino ad arrivare ai confini del Friuli, con suggestive scogliere aperte sull’Adriatico, la diga di Caorle, una passeggiata che protegge il vecchio villaggio di pescatori dall’inizio dell’Ottocento fino ad oggi, e il porto, che tra passato e presente sono da sempre il simbolo dell’attività economica del borgo. Black and White Primi 6 Episodi

In due giorni mi sono sparata i primi sei episodi di questo drama, si vede che mi sta piacendo?

Quando ieri ho premuto play alla prima puntata, ho spento completamente il cervello e mi sono goduta tantissimo lo spettacolo in un bellissimo climax leggero, divertente e pieno d'azione.

Questo drama è esattamente quello che volevo in questo momento: dopo i pipponi pesanti ed emotivi di Vagabond, My Country, Ever Night e Hotel del Luna (per cui ancora piango), Black and White è per me una ventata d'aria fresca.

È leggero ma non demenziale, poliziesco ma nulla di troppo complicato, le vicende sono caratterizzate da un perfetto equilibrio di comicità, indagini, sparatorie e inseguimenti.

Già la primissima scena mi ha subito catturata, perché siamo partiti subito a bomba con una bella corsa in metropolitana, con Wu Ying Xiong che si fa sfuggire sotto il naso i criminali della situazione con i relativi soldi.

Ciò gli procura una lavata di capo, e la successiva accoppiata con il nuovo poliziotto del distretto, Chen Zai Tian, MIO PERSONAGGIO PREFERITO E MIO EROE, non gli migliora di certo la giornata.

Perché i due poliziotti sono MOLTO diversi, e trovare sintonia all'inizio non è facile.

DA NOTARE LA FACCIA PROSSIMA AL SUICIDIO DI WU YING XIONG.

Wu Ying Xiong è il poliziotto bravo, serio, coraggioso, concentrato, quello che si sente responsabile e dà corpo e anima nel suo lavoro.

Chen Zai Tian invece sembra (ripeto, sembra) essere il "cazzone" di turno, è un casanova, si mette a flirtare con la collega appena la vede, è frivolo, vanitoso, vigliacco.

MA

È anche sveglio, intuitivo, intelligente, ha una buona memoria (memorizzare i numeri delle ragazze ha dato i suoi frutti), sa come indagare.

Ovviamente la prima impressione che fa sul collega non è delle migliori, per non parlare del fatto che risulta positivo a un test della droga.

Ammetto che nei primi tre episodi ho combattuto con Wu Ying Xiong perché l'ho visto troppo orgoglioso e barricato nel pensiero "io sono il poliziotto bravo, tu sei un idiota; io prendo il lavoro seriamente, tu non sai fare niente".

Gli istinti omicidi di Wu Ying Xiong Lol.

Anche se Chen Zai Tian centra in pieno alcune piste, Wu Ying Xiong fa fatica a riconoscere la sua bravura, e anche quando viene fuori che il test della droga era tutto un malinteso, Wu Ying non sembra volerlo guardare con occhi diversi.

Pensandoci a mente fredda, mi rendo conto che questo suo lato orgoglioso è in realtà molto umano e che lo rende un personaggio credibile, quindi è una cosa che apprezzo.

Ho guardato col fiato sospeso dall'inizio alla fine l'inseguimento del treno sotterraneo, con quel pazzo drogato che decide per motivi noti solo a lui di far schiantare il veicolo e mandare tutti al creatore.

La sequenza mi ha strappato più di una risata, perché questo tizio inonda il treno di una droga potentissima che ti manda fuori di testa a solo annusarla. Il risultato è che tutti i passeggeri sono completamente fatti nel giro di due minuti, e lo psicopatico in questione si mette a saltellare in giro e a ballare la lap dance con i pali del treno.

Non nego l'assoluta assurdità della scena, arricchita da Wu Ying Xiong che SALTA SUL TRENO IN CORSA e si mette poi a combattere con lo psicopatico. Ma me la sono goduta tantissimo.

Mi ha fatto troppo ridere Chen Zai Tian che riesce appena in tempo a far scattare la leva e si ritrova il treno a mezzo metro da lui. Per un attimo ho temuto che gli prendesse un infarto.

Dopo tale avventura, Wu Ying Xiong finalmente riesce per un attimo a mettere da parte l'orgoglio e a complimentarsi con il collega (prevedo una bromance coi fiocchi), e il mio cuore non ha potuto fare a meno di volare.

Ma Chen Zai Tian rimane comunque quello che è di base: un simpatico disgraziato.

La scena è questa: i due protagonisti, assieme ad un collega più anziano, si recano sotto copertura in un magazzino che traffica armi ILLEGALMENTE, per indagare su un certo tipo di fucile. Prima di andarsene, Chen Zai Tian pensa bene di comprare e portarsi a casa un vero arsenale, con Wu Ying Xiong che lo guarda come per dire "ma sei scemo???"

Risposta: "Ho preso tutto in una volta, ho fatto un profitto!"

Non fa una piega.

Vengono poi beccati in pieno da dei tizi che paiono dei mafiosi, muniti di spranghe mettono a tappeto Wu Ying Xiong e l'altro collega, e poi circondano il povero Chen Zai Tian, che cerca prima di salvarsi la pelle, poi si mette letteralmente a implorare pietà, regalando alla scena un fantastico tocco di comicità:

"Aspettate un momento! Così tanti contro uno? Che uomini siete? Avete colpito un anziano! È solo un vecchio, non sapete come rispettare gli anziani? In ogni caso io sono un grosso cliente che ha comprato da voi molte armi! Potete andarci piano con me? Ho paura del dolore."

Capite perché lo amo?

Mi piace perché con la soglia del dolore che ho io, nella sua situazione avrei implorato esattamente come lui.

Per non parlare di come mi abbia fatto morire dalla risate quando si mette a porconare contro Wu Ying Xiong, che come un pazzo si lancia all'inseguimento di un'auto in corsa sparandole contro in mezzo alla strada.

Ma Chen Zai Tian non è solo un bel mix di spiritosaggine e intelligenza. Nasconde anche una certa profondità. Prima di tutto, ho notato come riesce a capire le emozioni del suo compagno, segno di come sia anche un buon osservatore.

Inoltre, in un veloce flashback, ci mostrano un Chen Zai Tian di tre anni fa, povero in canna e probabilmente senzatetto, talmente disperato da tentare una rapina per prendersi del cibo, e qui una gentile ragazza lo aiuta (ragazza che a quanto pare è importante perché lui la sta cercando).

Non posso fare a meno di empatizzare per lui vedendo questo passato doloroso di cui non fa parola con nessuno e che cerca di nascondere.

Ora, per quanto riguarda la parte amorosa, in sei episodi si è già creata una situazione da fare invidia a Beautiful.

Ci sono due ragazze in campo: Chen Lin, la figlia del boss della città, e Xi Ying, la collega della scientifica.

A parte il fatto che tra Chen Zai Tian e Chen Lin c'è già stato un bacio assolutamente casuale (ma a me è già partita la ship), la situazione romance al momento corrente è questa:

A Wu Ying Xiong piace Chen Lin.

A Chen Lin all'apparenza piace Wu Ying Xiong. Ma in realtà le piace Chen Zai Tian, solo che ancora non lo sa.

A Chen Zai Tian piace Chen Lin (credo che ancora deve realizzarlo)

A Xi Ying piace Wu Ying Xiong, che la vede solo come una cara amica (per ora).

Voglio scommettere su come andrà a finire, vediamo se sono brava quanto @dilebe06 a indovinare le sceneggiature. Secondo me le coppie che andranno a formarsi saranno:

Wu Ying Xiong e Xi Ying.

Chen Zai Tian e Chen Lin.

Per concludere, ho notato che Black and White non è solo leggera e divertente, ma per esempio mette in campo anche la seria questione della polizia corrotta, falsa e bastarda. (Ho già beccato una talpa all'interno del distretto, capitano bastardo).

Questa serie non è di certo un capolavoro, la sto prendendo per quello che è: un puro intrattenimento ricco di momenti simpatici e scene d'azione. Non ho nessuna pretesa, voglio solo godermela in tranquillità.

Qualcosa mi dice che Wu Ying Xiong e Chen Zai Tian diventeranno la mia bromance dell'anno (My Country può solo accompagnare), ma il mio eroe rimarrà solo Chen Zai Tian.

Nirvana in Fire 2, Episode 4: Recap

We are onto Episode 4 now. Thankfully the wonderful subbers at Viki (Yay Gone with the shirt Team!) have very quickly subbed 6 episodes. For the first 2 weeks, we will get 6 episodes on Viki and DF, whereas in the mainland 12 episodes have already been released.

I will be saving my thoughts till the end of this recap. An idea by a friend on Discord was also to include screencaps of new characters so I will try my best as I am on mobile. Onto the recap!

Last Episode:

In Episode 3, Pingjing and Lin Xi start their investigations into the military boat accident aided by Pingjing's cousin Xiao Yuanqi. They have a few nice martial arts fights, and now race against time and baddies Magistrate Zhang, Policeman Qian and Smug-as-fuck Private Assistant to one Minister Song Fu, PA Qin (whose real name is fire-wielding martial artist Duan Tongzhou). The clue to unraveling the case lies in material evidence - and in the one ship that is still sunken in the river.

Episode 4 recap:

- Pingjing and Lin Xi make their way over to the river to find the sunken ship, where Pingjing very casually takes his clothes off in front of Lin Xi. I know its fanservice to the audience at least a little bit, but credit to (the writer and) Lin Xi for not turning all hot and awkward like all asian-drama heroines usually do. Well, she is a doctor, not some blushing maiden, and she has had her hands up and around the gorgeous abs of Xiao Pingzhang which are much better than his brother's....you can see how easily I am distracted here.

- Lin Xi's focus however, is the ridic Bollywood betrothal longevity locket Pingjing is wearing, and she flashes back to her sickly mother with the same locket, telling Lin Xi to not care about the position of a noble's wife, but gain a husband she could live long with.

- Our little Divine Diving Dragon Pingjing has been in the water too long, which disconcerts Lin Xi, so the brat comes up to declare that he can dive for longer but he knows 'softhearted' Lin Xi will worry so he wants to show his face. Not a smart thing to say to women who can fling darts and poison you, little Dragon. Learn from great-grandpa's mistakes.

- However, Pingjing's diving abilities are no joke when he indeed brings up some evidence from below, including some wooden parts of the ship. Later, our trio of smols including Yuanqi, investigate the wood piece and find that it was covered with some sort of jelly, which is hardened when submerged underwater - but becomes brittle when struck with force. Translation, someone coated the ship's wood with this jelly knowing there would be a collision, and the jelly helped exacerbate the impact and cracks, finally sinking ships that should not have sunk. Yuanqi becomes angry and indignant at people who would dare play with people's lives like this. Oh honey, in the future it's gonna be you, it will be sad to see you on the dark side.

- In the meantime, PA Qin/Duan Tongzhou calls over Evil Policeman Qian, and makes him an offer - because he can feel that Magistrate Zhang has not been entirely truthful in their dealings and has kept some buried proof to find his own way out of this mess. PA Qin reminds Qian gently that he is different - which means that Zhang has family and would likely confess, where Qian would lose his life. However if Qian helps destroy the threat that Zhang poses, he can keep his head. Points to Qian however, because there is honour among thieves, and he asks PA Qin not to hurt Zhang who he has served for 8 years. In the night, Qian spies on Zhang removing and burning some secret correspondences he has saved under the floorboard.

- The next day, Yuanqi and Pingjing take stock of all the spies dressed as beggars outside Jifeng Hall, knowing that they are being watched and followed. The most important course of action now, is to wait and watch - however they worry about one witness who is yet to be protected, Magistrate Zhang himself, who Pingjing believes will be crucial to the investigation. Pingjing goes to meet Zhang.

- PA Qin/DT pays a visit to Zhang and threatens him sweetly by burning his letters to complete ashes in his hand just by crushing them! I found this so dangerous and cool, like this dude has so much power that he can burn shit at will. Zhang has no choice but to agree to these conditions.

- Yun-jie, the nurse from Jifeng Hall, delivers supplies to an old, dilapidated winery which is hiding our main witnesses, the physicians and the military boat captain. But she has been followed by PA Qin's lackey! He reports this to PA Qin, who looks smug as usual (I hate his face) and decides to take action. He asks Lackey to undertake another mission for him.

- PA Qin leads Qian and his men to the hideout, and Qian again asks if Magistrate Zhang will be all right. I know this is a small, possibly negligible detail of a minor character - but this is what I love about this show or NIF in general. Even the minor characters have ideas, behaviours and agendas. Qian could have been shown as a mindless lackey but he has a brain, he has conflicted emotions about this business and he is loyal to his master. These characters seem real and fleshed out, no matter how small their screen time.

- The Jifeng Hall spots Qian leading his men to the hideout, and immediately inform Lin Xi and Yuanqi. They are slightly at a loss what to do - when Yuanqi offers to risk his life, taking a few men to the hideout while Lin Xi gets Pingjing. The smols are in action mode!

- At the Magistrate's office, Zhang receives the news with resignation that Pingjing is here. But before he can meet him, PA Qin's lackey comes with a white silk cloth and we know what that means. As Magistrate Zhang is taking his last breaths, wham!bam! Pingjing appears and saves the day. He knocks out lackey in one blow, I am impressed!

- Yuanqi and a band of his men rush to the winery juuuust in the nick of time and face off against Qian and smug-looking PA Qin. He uses his royal status and declares the hideout/winery to belong to him, and how dare Qian come and infiltrate his land! PA Qin does not seem worried or fazed by Yuanqi, entering into a battle of laws (yawn, boring) but he needles some sort of hidden anger in Yuanqi, by declaring that the Emperor has not bestowed a feudal land upon him, so Yuanqi does not know the difference between imperial property and personally-purchased property.

- Now this could be a trifling detail, but Yuanqi gets so angry that when Leader Qian asks his men to go forth and search, he kills a man in cold blood, declaring that just because he is idle nobility does not mean he cannot take action. You go boy! Also another interesting detail, Yuanqi's hands are shaking and his eyes fill with moisture, indicating he is actually afraid of this whole situation but yet he is standing strong. It shows the nature of his character who gets pissed off when he is told he cannot do anything. Interesting.

- Pingjing and Lin Xi arrive! They bring Magistrate Zhang as a hostage and Leader Qian is a bit taken aback. Pingjing shows his official badge from the House of Changlin, but PA Qin even dares question it. A tense stand-off ensues (with a great comic moment where our favourite brat raps Zhang hard on the butt with his sword lol) but it is broken up by the arrival of reinforcements!

- It is General Yuan of the Changlin Army (who PJ calls Uncle Yuan) and General Ji of the Shanliu Army stationed in Qizhou. Vastly outnumbered, Duan Tongzhou puts his skills to the test, throwing steel darts at everybody. Pingjing and Lin Xi manage to avoid them, but Duan Tongzhou kills Policeman Qian specifically before wuxia flying away. Lin Xi looks at Magistrate Zhang and narrows her eyes, suspecting something.

- Pingjing is verrrry put out by the arrival of Uncle Yuan, because this means his dad has not trusted him and has been plotting behind the scenes! His father had suspected the imperial envoys would be scholarly ministers who could not deal with the situation, and he felt that local forces near to Datong could be colluding with Zhang and Duan, hence he dispatched Uncle Yuan to seek the help of high-ranking General Ji of faraway Qizhou who came to help. This family, oh my god. I swear I smell bits of Uncle MCS in Tingsheng and Pingjing - those Lin family genes!

- Lin Xi offers to accompany the doctors of Jifeng Hall who are witnesses as they have received a shock. Yun-jie (Princess Liyang NIF2 version) also asks to go with her to Jinling to see the city, but the soft music in the background is the sliiiighest bit ominous. Yun-jie don't go bad on us please!

- General Ji is unable to capture Duan Tongzhou after a night of searching, so the retinue finally departs for Jinling with the witnesses, Magistrate Zhang in cuffs and the smol trio of investigators. Pingjing is wary throughout the journey, suspecting something may happen soon. At one rest stop, Pingjing goes to interview Zhang, who has been very quiet but General Ji is already talking to hom - and weirdly distracts Pingjing by going - Oh look theres Lin Xi! Talk to her. Alarm bells start ringing, tra la la la la

- Pingjing spots Yuanqi who is having an unfortunate bout, trying to cope with shock and trauma. He has never killed a man before, he never knew blood was so warm. He asks Pingjing if he has killed before and the answer is silence - because Pingjing has already been in 2 battles unofficially. The cousins bond over a drink, and its kinda nice to see this kind of detail as well - a man dealing with his own struggles. I like this broship, its only gonna get sad from here. *sigh*

- The next day, they are travelling through the plains. Nothing much happens except Pingjing gives Lin Xi his cloak. Its sweet again, but not in a blushing, cute manner. Pingjing is perfectly natural in the way he acts, offering a coat to a friend and benefactor, and Lin Xi accepts it casually as well. Although we see signs that Lin Xi is warming up to him, its not a contrived romance, so +1 for that.

- Pingjing and Yuanqi hold another discussion where he elaborates to him how he smells something fishy. Duan Tongzhou had the opportunity and skills to kill Zhang at their last fight, but he ended Qian instead. What was the motive? Yuanqi and Pingjing both wonder.

- In the Palace, The Emperor, cute Crown Prince Xiao Yuanshi and the Empress are looking over his progress in studies as every Asian parent does. :P The Empress praises Rasputin/High Priest Pu to the Emperor, citing evil spirits were removed from the Crown Prince's body. The Emperor is unimpressed to the moon and back, and gently rebukes the Empress saying that he has allowed for altars and all this hocus-pocus (much more politely than me, I might add), but its not only the CP she should be thinking about, but the thousands of brave soldiers who died in the recent war, and to pray for Pingzhang's health. The Empress' face sours a bit but she has already planned some prayers.

- I must take a moment to say how beautiful and supremely graceful Mei Ting is in this Empress role. Her comportment is very regal, the way she moves her hands and all the subtle actions make her seem very very grand and impressive.

- So Pingjing and the retinue are now in a wooded area near the Capital, and Pingjing is waiting for something to happen. And so is bro Pingzhang, having reached the capital already and convalescing, thinking about where and when Pingjing will be attacked. We are introduced to his wife Meng Qianxue (the ridiculously attractive Tong Liya) who takes care of his health and his mind it seems, puzzling over the matter with her husband. End episode in the same way as NIF, abruptly - but at least they know how to do it better somewhat, and end near a cliffhanger.

Thoughts:

A more plot-heavy episode definitely, and also some moments of the budding camaraderie between Lin Xi and Pingjing and Yuanqi.

What I am liking about NIF2, or maybe it is something NIF1 taught me to observe- are the details. There are many beautiful aesthetic details sure, but there are these tiny plot points and acting minutiae that catch me. As I stressed on the recap, Qian's loyalty to Zhang, Yuanqi dealing with the effects of his actions, Lin Xi's subtle observations and the Empress' very perfect demeanour hiding her ill will - its all very well executed.

I would also like to state how ridic and amazing Tong Liya is in the one scene she appears now. I have only seen her in two melo romcoms where she was a very sad heroine beleaguered by life and slapped around by men, and to see her smiling and so cute! Her chemistry with Huang Xiaoming is very natural too.

I think I wont stop raving about the Xiao family's natural warmth with each other. It doesnt seem forced at all.

That being said, now the pacing is a bit sedate for me. I discussed this with a friend and she indicated that if I go back and watch NIF there are many episodes where much doesnt happen in the foreground, but the wheels are always spinning in the background. I am all for giving NIF2 a chance - and I dont think it is required to live up to NIF, considering how classic that show is, and How personally the UST and pain between MCS and Jingyan is a very very main driver of the show for me.

NIF2 does not have that UST for me, but it does have detailed characters, plots that seem reasonable and are exposed very well, a whole galaxy of competent characters. (can i mention how much I love competence kink? But I am shit at writing it!)

I don't know what I will take away from NIF2 towards the end, but right now its the competent men and women, and the lovely family bonds we never got to experience in NIF BECAUSE THEY ALL DIED. (Okay Nihuang and Mu Qing you are an exception).

Recentemente, in un vasto articolo che battezza l’irritante sbadataggine – diciamo così – della grande editoria italiana – prona a ciò che potrebbe piacere al lettore, preso per cretino, alimentando le classiste classifiche, più che alla grandezza in sé – Alessandro Gnocchi ha ribadito che di Cormac McCarthy c’è tutto. Tranne un testo. Il testo s’intitola The Stonemason, è stato pubblicato nel 1994, gli esperiti lo dicono “un notevole fallimento”.

The Stonemason è centrato sulla figura di Ben Telfair, nero, poco più che trentenne, al contempo narratore e attore del dramma. Siamo negli anni Settanta, a Louisville, Kentucky; Ben abbandona gli studi universitari in psicologia per perpetuare la tradizione di famiglia. Di mestiere, i suoi sono scalpellini, tagliatori di pietre. Il totem della famiglia Telfair è nonno Papaw, che incarna i valori dell’onestà, della rettitudine, della fede. Ben è lì che vorrebbe radicarsi, ma il mondo lo morde e lacera la famiglia. Dietro Cormac McCarthy c’è l’esempio faulkneriano di Requiem for a Nun – straordinaria fusione di prosa e brandelli teatrali – e dei lati sinistri del teatro elisabettiano, John Webster, per dire.

Una non secondaria ragione d’interesse sta nel crisma cronologico. The Stonemason è pubblico nel 1994, è stato scritto durante la grandiosa fase romanzesca di McCarthy, quella della ‘Trilogia della frontiera’, che coincide con Cavalli selvaggi (1992), Oltre il confine (1994), Città della pianura (1998). Recentemente, Federico Bellini, ricercatore presso l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, ha scritto un informatissimo articolo in cui ricostruisce le ragioni dell’insuccesso di The Stonemason, “To Make the World in the Maelstrom of its Undoing: Cormac McCarthy’s The Stonemason” (pubblicato su RSA Journal, 30/2019). “Tra gli studiosi di McCarthy, The Stonemason provoca un certo imbarazzo, eguagliato dalla sceneggiatura scritta per The Counselor. La ragione principale, come narrato da Edwin T. Arnold in un saggio brillante, è che il testo è nato sotto grandi auspici, ma infine non è sopravvissuto alle attese. Scritto alla fine degli anni Ottanta, il testo di McCarthy ha goduto di una delle sette borse di studio concesse nel 1991 dall’American Express/John F. Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, che ha donato 10mila dollari all’autore e 50mila all’Arena Stage di Washington DC per la produzione. Washington, 19 ago (EFE).- El Gobierno estadounidense va a extender otros noventa dias la moratoria de sanciones contra la empresa china Huawei, segun confirmo hoy el secretario de Comercio, Wilbur Ross, en una entrevista con la cadena Fox.

La decision tiene lugar un dia despues que el presidente Donald Trump describiera Huawei como una amenaza para la seguridad nacional de Estados Unidos.

En mayo pasado, Trump ordeno al Departamento de Comercio que colocara a Huawei en su lista de empresas extranjeras con restricciones en sus negocios en Estados Unidos y pocos dias despues el mismo ministerio anuncio que las restricciones quedaban en suspenso durante 90 dias a partir del 20 de mayo.

“Algunas companias dependen de Huawei”, explico Ross hoy para justificar la moratoria. “Por eso les damos un poco mas de tiempo para que se desvinculen”.

La decision posterga la aplicacion de medidas contra Huawei hasta aproximadamente el 19 de noviembre. El presidente Trump tambien ha postergado hasta diciembre la aplicacion de aranceles sobre cientos de miles de millones de dolares en importaciones desde China.

Dicha moratoria ha permitido a Huawei y a sus empresas filiales evitar de momento el veto anunciado por el presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump, que le impediria trabajar con los fabricantes de microprocesadores estadounidenses y con Alphabet, de la que depende su acceso a Google Play y por tanto a las aplicaciones disenadas para Android que no esten en codigo abierto.

El domingo, el presidente Trump aseguro que su Gobierno no quiere hacer negocios con Huawei por considerar que esa compania es una “amenaza para la seguridad nacional”.

“En este momento parece mucho mas que no vamos a hacer negocios. No quiero hacer negocios en absoluto, porque es una amenaza a la seguridad nacional”, insistio.

En su entrevista con FOX, Ross indico que el Departamento de Comercio anadio otras 46 subsidiarias de Huawei sujetas a las restricciones comerciales.

“Tenemos ahora mas de 100 subsidiarias en la Lista de Entidades”, dijo Ross, quien explico que la adicion de empresas “hace mas dificil para Huawei eludir las sanciones”.

La aplicacion de sanciones afecta el lanzamiento del nuevo celular Huawei Mate 30 con el sistema operativo Android de Google, y la firma china ha indicado que de todos modos pondra en el mercado su producto pero con el nuevo sistema operativo de Huawei llamado Harmony OS.

El veto impediria a Alphabet, la empresa matriz de Google, seguir otorgando licencias a los productos Huawei, y llevaria a los principales fabricantes de componentes electronicos estadounidenses a rompen relaciones comerciales con Huawei.

Antes de emitirse en mayo la moratoria al veto, las companias de procesadores Intel, Qualcomm, Xilinx y Broadcom, la alemana Infineon Technologies y los fabricantes de chips de memoria Micron Technology y Western Digital anunciaron el cese de sus suministros a Huawei en cumplimiento de la orden de Trump.

Pero en junio, durante la cumbre del G20, en la que Trump se reunio con su homologo chino, Xi Jinping, ambos acordaron una tregua en su guerra comercial por la que Washington freno la imposicion de nuevos aranceles a China y accedio a permitir ciertos intercambios con Huawei.

El pasado 22 de julio, tras una reunion con Trump, los directivos de Google, Intel, Cisco, Qualcomm, Micron, Broadcom y Western Digital pidieron al Gobierno tomar una decision sobre la actividad comercial de Huawei en EE.UU., segun anuncio entonces la Casa Blanca.
