152 please!!! My beloved!!!
Hezekiah Wakely beloved!!
My stupid take, and I've said this before, is that he and Simon Fairchild would have made a great Vast Buried couple, I wish they had met
I wish we had seen more of Hezekiah but honestly good for him, dropping out of the tma story early. He just wanted some peace and quiet

Here’s my second commission I did for @magnusforgaza ! I went all out for this one since they are my boys lol.
This request came from @just-cerbin for something with Hezekiah and Nathaniel, so you can thank them for having more lovely art of them.

Just finished a big project, so time to do some self indulgent art of a TMA character who is from the 1800s and literally only appears in one episode!
Tumblr media
Hezekiah Wakely lives rent free in my brain for reasons I can't explain.
(Please reblog if you're comfortable doing so <3)

The Magnus Archives Doodles, MAG 150 - 154
Simon Fairchild is now my new favourite character, I mean look at that silly guy, I don’t think I really did him justice in this doodle but hey it’s only the first draw of him (well technically second) I never really paid him much of mind when listening to statements that he caused but after listening to him talk he’s definitely made it on my top ten favourites list.
Also LOOK at the MAG 150 doodle I did, I’m really happy with how it turned out. I started drawing it maybe just before Jon started his final “notes” and at the time thought that it had something to do with the Stranger but was quite surprised when it turned out to be the Lonely.
Eric Delano is now also another one of my new favourites from the series, now that I know that not only Him and Gerry were “put” into the books but that also Mary as well makes me wonder if I’ll get to hear another statement from Mary except, well in book “ghost” form.

Fucking hell man. They’re giving my boy a killer internal conflict on the true meaning of humanity and at what point you cross the line into becoming a monster. Fuck.

I'm too busy right now to properly explain my thoughts, but I'm thinking about the statement in TMA 92: Nothing Besides Remains so much right now. Hits insanely hard.
It's a pretty neat statement on its own (although I read that apparently the letter-based statements were a bit boring to some - not to me), but it's so interesting on relisten.
Jmart and Jonah and Barnabas parallels? ✅
The Lonely (I really like the lonely, okay)? ✅
The SKULL Jonah still KEEPS IN HIS OFFICE!? ✅✅✅

Something that I think about and have feelings for but none of my thoughts or feelings are coherent enough to talk about:
The way Hezekiah ends his letters to Nathaniel
How the first two letters end:
Tumblr media
Then the 3rd and 4th:
Tumblr media
It's more personal. For context, the 3rd letter is written after Nathaniel's visit
Then the 5th (and final) letter:
Tumblr media
We return to the old ending, after Nathaniel reports Hezekiah to the church
Do I have anything to say about this? No. But it's an important detail to me

First listen to: MAG 152 - A Gravedigger’s Envy
This episode shows off a certain appeal that the Buried has. I’ve often wondered what the afterlife would be like. The idea of unending bliss sounds terrible. Surely you’d get bored of something like that, it’s like The Good Place. An eternal slumber sounds much better don’t you think? It’s just like the Empty from Supernatural. You would finally be able to close your eyes and just rest.
I like statements like these because it makes me realize that I could easily be swayed by any of the fear entities. Jane Prentiss, Jude Perry, and Simon Fairchild are prefect examples of this. They were enchanted by the fear entities and I know that I would be too.
Gotta say, I loved Michael but Helen is so much more fun. I like that her and Jon get to have casual conversations like this. Whether it’s a good idea or not, and it isn’t in this case, I think it’s comforting to talk to people who are going through the same thing you are. Especially when everyone keeps avoiding you.

A fun theory
In this brilliant post, op shows how Jane Prentiss encounters and mentions all 14 Fears, describing them as though she deeply understands them all from within her corrupted lens. Op calls it an early hint in the narrative to the Fears and their role in the world but I want to posit an in-world theory.
I think that part of the reason the Web sent a spider to cause Jon to break the wall and lead Jane to act earlier than she wanted was because Jane's rudimentary ritual to bring the Corruption to the world (through the circle of worms which Tim later found) would have actually worked in bringing all the Fears because Jane was already marked by all of them and was now in a place of power (the tunnels under the institute) and ready to incubate and create a corruption-based apocalypse.
This is something that the Web did not plan for and would not be able to control, because, as Jon said in episode 152, "what did Elias call it? – Filth. I don’t think it really plans much. It just starts to grow wherever it can get a foothold, and, if no one stamps it out in time… game over." The Web has no control over a thing that doesn't plan and had to "stamp it out" before it caused a "game over" by derailing all its schemes of a controlled eyepocalypse, ruled by its puppets (Jon and Jonah).

The thing about avatars' statements I love so much is that there is always that sense of deep and primordial connection that clearly drew them into becoming an avatar of that Fear - is it love? recognition? belonging? understanding? etc...
Jane became an avatar of the Corruption because the wasps nest sang to her that they loved her.
Simon became an avatar of the Vast because he fell in love with the sky.
Jude devoted herself to the Cult of the Lightless Flame because they offered her a release from her depression.
Hezekiah became an avatar of the Buried because it promised him a restful sleep beneath the earth.
It's so interesting because these statements are scattered around and lesser in number than the other statements about how people barely escaped an encounter with one of the Fears only to be later be taken by them anyway, that when we hear an avatar's statement, it's almost like..poetic or romantic in a way??? if that makes sense?? like the Buried freaks me out but listening to this episode still makes me want to take a nap in the dirt...
The strong emotional connection really does come across as quite convincing to the point of almost relatability yeah
