Rewatching tlk because my last rewatch had some ✨technical difficulties✨ and I couldn’t get past 2x07

Speaking of characters who deserve to have a bucket of piss thrown over them, Aethelred wasn’t having fun this week. The King of Mercia was insulted, KO’d, woke up in a pigsty and forced to eat dinner with his bum out. Terrific stuff. TOBY REGBO was a sound casting pick here. Aethelred having a face that would have been used to advertise baby powder in the 1920s makes his slimy villainy all the more complex. His mealy-mouthed attempts to negotiate for his wife’s release were as pathetic as he is. If he got his way, Aethelflaed would be going from one jailor to another.”

Stills from 2x07 of TLK. They should just rename it "Everybody Hates Aethelred". Uhtred has given him the name of "Pig's Ass" and it's caught on quick. Plus, his captive wife has gotten Stockholm Syndrome and fallen in love with Erik, the sensitive Dane. The last scene has Aethelflaed begging Uhtred to help her escape with Erik rather than return to Wessex to King Alfred and Pig's Ass. Can't say that I blame the girl...Poor Toby.

frary-us HaHa! So true. Arrogant peacock Aethelred would never want to share the spotlight with anyone. He "tolerates" partner Aldhelm because he secretly knows he needs his talents for the band to succeed.

Aethelred and Aldhelm just dropped their latest album. What is the name of their band, and what genre of music do they play?

Talking of the Mercians, my favourite weaselly duo continued their inept scheming with Aldhelm giving his best impersonation of the biblical serpent, dripping sweet poison into Æthelred’s ear to paint a picture of an English paradise where Mercia, not Wessex, reigned. Unfortunately, the recipient of all this scheming wasn’t in much of a state to benefit from it as the arrogant young lord of Mercia found himself branded a pig’s arse, tormented with fart jokes, punched in the face, stripped naked and dumped in a sty, and finally forced to break bread with Sigefrid while clad in little more than a blanket. I could say his humiliation was undeserved but I’d be lying.

......the prolonged and worryingly enjoyable humiliation of Æthelred, Lord of Merica; never has a man been more deserving of an uncalled for punch to the jaw.

Quote of the week

Barham 27 Apr 2017:  .......Props to TOBY REGBO who given he's not the ugliest man in the world (the bastard) must be loving the chance to play a proper weasel, and that we've all's good and cheered when he got belted in the mush reflects well on his performance.

frary-us: I totally agree.☝️ Regbo has said he enjoyed playing his first villain, and I think he gave a fantastic performance. Aethelred is truly despised by viewers, and I think Toby’s fine acting and sinister facial expressions deserve praise.🎭👏
