They meet after the events of S1 obvs like there's no reason for Mateo to be in the basement lawl and the two definitely didn't choose to hang out with,, good intentions in mind </3

Both of them just sort of went "oh I could use this", AB mostly driven by trying to "manipulate" Mateo (i.e being very obvious about his plans for escape/world domination and Mateo being the only person that doesn't tell him to shut up) and Mateo wanting to study AB for the whole robot body switch lawl along with being presented the opportunity to get a one up over his colleagues for studying The Evil Robot From The Basement

And umm um maybe they start to (whether they realize it or not) want to be around more and more cuz the two realize that the other isn't that awful and actually understands certain things. LIKE LIKEE UH they were both made for a specific task/role in their lives and given no control over what they say or do <3 IDK im in love with the idea that robotus sort of,, forgets about taking over the world for a bit?? He's experiencing new things through Mateo and vice versa n being able to relate to him sort of makes him forget about his plans sniffle For the both of them, its their first genuine friend (they will deny it up and down tho) in a HOT minute

But this also means I can be evil and say that for Mateo it was kiiiind of similar? He doesn't forget about his plans for taking over cognito but rather it encourages him to keep going </3 He kind of,, believes that if he can gain his own freedom in taking over he could do the same for his bf friend. Mateo assumes that AB will be 100% on board with it but by this point AB sort of </33 has grown attached to the stupid humans and doesn't wanna help

UHH UM tldr AB and Mateo's whole thing is enemies to friends to lovers but they take ages to get to the last part cuz theyre too busy running in circles to do anything about it <3
