Why I don’t have much time for friends right now (sorry!)...
I can’t quite tell which is crazier, the fact that Take Your SnapShotz is actually getting off the ground or the fact that so much has happened in the last month  and a half. I almost don’t know where to start. Maybe I should just do a timeline:
May 15: Overnighted my application to put SnapShotz on the 16th Street Mall to downtown Denver. The deadline is the following evening, May 16.
May 16-19: Went on a merry chase with FedEx trying to figure out why my application never arrived on time (not only did it turn out to be a mis-typed address but the original address was incorrect anyway).
Also during these days, I was out of town for my sister’s graduation from Dental Hygiene school. Way to go Em!
May 20: Personally handed the coordinator a new copy of my application package. Also found out that the meeting date I hustled to get my application in on time for was moved to June 20 anyway. Grrr....
That same week, I hustled to get details together for a first launch event at the King of the Snake skate competition on June 18.
May 24: Had a phone call with Dutch company, PhotoFlyer, about their customizable instax photo stickers.
June 4: Got business bank account set up.
That same week, hustled to finish SnapShotz’ website and design brochures and PhotoFlyer stickers.
June 7: Found out that King of the Snake was not legally set up correctly and therefore was cancelled. It was such a mess the primary organizer became the subject of a police investigation. (!)
June 10-20: Prepped for second (now first) launch event at Creative Mornings on June 21. Finished funding the bank. Went shopping. Ordered stuff online. Dropped $3k on 50 Instax cameras.
June 20: Unboxed 50 brand new Instax cameras and filled them with film and batteries. Promptly burst into tears after completing the last one. This business thing suddenly slammed up against reality. It was overwhelming.
June 20: Downtown partnership meets to decide SnapShotz’ fate on the 16th Street Mall. I have no idea how the meeting goes because I’m not there.
June 21: LAUNCH AT CREATIVE MORNINGS IS A SUCCESS!!! Also got to pitch SnapShotz to the Creative Mornings audience. Thanks CM!
June 21: Had a business meeting with Amy. In that meeting, we recieved an email from the downtown coordinator that SNAPSHOTZ IS A GO ON THE MALL!
Notes: We have to wait for a space to open. And, we have to build our own kiosk. Yipe. That’s another $30k I don’t have yet. Yes. $30,000. Need to brainstorm that one.
Also brainstormed possibility of powering the kiosk with solar. It would possibly open up more locations on the Mall as two-thirds of it doesn’t have functional power for kiosks.
At that same meeting, we decided to shoot to bring SnapShotz to two events in July: The Denver County Fair and the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival. Both are coming up hard and fast.
June 26: Had a meeting at Denver Rescue Mission about bringing SnapShotz up to their Harvest Farm Fall Festival in October. We’re given the green light! (typing this out reminds me, I have a follow up email I need to write...)
June 28: Asked the downtown coordinator about our solar power idea.
July 2: Had a meeting with Elanor Harris about additional graphic design needs to prep SnapShotz for July events.
July 2: Also sent in application to Denver County Fair.
July 2: The downtown coordinator responds that solar power is a great idea and we can walk the Mall to see which spot will work the best. (!)
July 3: Denver County Fair approves our last minute application. WE’RE GOING TO THE FAIR!
July 3: Emailed the Dragon Boat Festival about their application. It says spots are open but all the due dates are past.
July 3: The Dragon Boat coordinator emails back saying they’d love to get us at the Festival and they want more details.
July 4: Wrote this blog post.
Whelp. No wonder why I keep coping with hot fudge sundaes with peanuts.
I have a lot to do over this holiday weekend, like, finished my application processes with the County Fair and the Dragon Boat Festival. I need to keep working on figuring out where to find $30k (anybody want to give me a business loan???). Writing that follow-up email I just remembered.
I feel like some of this is impossible. But then I think of a perspective changer I heard last year: “Is it harder than putting man on the moon?” As the 50th Anniversary of the Moonwalk is coming up, it’s a welcome reminder of just how many people worked and how much effort was made to make Neil Armstrong’s first footprint happen on the lunar surface. The Lunar Mission program is probably the most daunting and incredible feat of human ingenuity, engineering and audacity. It seemed impossible. But it was done. If we can put man on the moon, than any other problem can be solved. Compared to the Moonwalk, launching SnapShotz is a piece of cake. So we will keep this rocket roaring forward.
