“Could it be used to transfer spell effects?” Caleb asks, scribbling furiously in his notebook.

Essek runs a hand through his hair. “I have not been able to crack that, no—my current understanding is that may require another spell entirely. I can devote more research to that, if you would like.”

Mollymauk flops backwards over the edge of the chaise. He can’t even tell if they’re flirting anymore, that’s how boring they are. Molly’s flirting radar is seasoned.

“So, not spell effects. But it has power. For example—” Essek starts flipping through notes— “I’ve found that it responds to a variety of stimuli. From what I can tell, it seems to be anything that’s sufficiently affecting the subject’s essence. Hence, the name of the spell.”
