Do people not realize we can still ship something, enjoy content about it, and be involved in fandom even though we do not think that ship is going to become canon on the show? It's not 'doubt' to talk about a ship in a different context, the tag doesn't belong to a specific group of shippers.
Yeah it also just seems like kind of a bummer way to interact with fandom? Where's the fun? The joy? The silliness? That comes from being unrestricted from canon?
Legit so much joy in fandom is from removing the factor of it being canon or not. A lot of fun ships were never anything close to canon. So many good ships are not canon, even if they had solid basis and grounding in canon and could reasonably be argued could be endgame before the finale. Just because a ship doesn't go canon doesn't mean it'll die. Hell, it probably means it'll stay strong with fix its and meta. (Look at some older fandoms, they are still chugging along healthily)
But simply not thinking that a romo ship could be done justice by the show without sacrificing multiple different platonic relationships and other plotlines or characters is seen as not shipping by some, which is wild. I hope that small segment of fans of the ship learn the freedom that comes with not being overly invested in a ship being endgame. Having canon ships is fun, but it isn't everything!
ETA: i saw the reply you must be mentioning talking about the "doubt" tag. Uh. That's. Odd? I guess I am 'doubting' it'll become canon, but that still seems like such an inhibiting way of interacting with fandom. It's not like it's an anti tag so you don't see overt negativity and bashing in the tag? But also yeah you're right I never said I didn't think they had feelings for each other. Just about it being endgame. It's just a different context for shipping it.
