Tag 9 people you’d like to get to know more
So i was tagged by @celestialspark a few months ago and wanted to do this stuff. But just. You know. Never found enough time to do it. But now! Maybe i'll get some stuff done!! So let's see...
Last song: Hmm... not any song in particular, as i mostly listen to some video game OST all the time. But currently? I kind of remembered that Celeste is a thing and i do love the ost. So here, have some good music!
Show I'm watching: You might be surprised but i have no subscription to any of the streaming services. I do watch anime, though, but currently i also none there. But... there is a new season soon? I think? Did start yet? Lemme check!
Okay so! I just noticed, that the next season features Tate no Yusha (Season 3) and Goblin Slayer (Season 2) so you can expect that i will watch them! Also, Doctor Stone (Season 3.2) might continue there too? Well, if so, i will watch that as well!
Book I'm reading: I haven't read anything for like. Forever. I should change that. Not sure what though. Maybe I should take my time to read the discworld novels again. Or find something new to read. Reading again something would be nice, tbh...
Currently obsessed with: Am I obsessed with something right now? Probably not? Okay, well, boardgames maybe in general, and in specific i remembered that i have the Civilization Boardgame from 2010 and haven't played it for years and would like to change that. But i am missing people and time and space. So uuuuhm... huh. Maybe i can change some stuff in the future so i can play again, but until then... i'll see what i can to.
Again, thanks for tagging me, sorry for the looong delay xD
Who am i going to tag?! Uh... huh. Lets see. Lemme tag... @nekomanzer @tivalon @atupda @piyotan @illia-lost-it @thereddance @dragonwithgoggles @xagrok @treamblr

My week’s discovery: Though our paths may diverse
youtube
Good afternoon, everyone! I will just share a song that I have discovered through a friend this week! The song is entitled Through Our Paths May Diverge sang by Mili. The song was produced for the Japanese anime Goblin Slayer, but the lyrics are in English. This is an OST which was introduced in the seventh episode. This dark fantasy anime genre is basically about the journey of Goblin Slayer (yes, an eponymous character!) which is… him constantly slaying goblins, as you could have understood haha. He feels that much rage towards them, because he was the only survivor of his village of a goblin attack while his childhood. He did not only see his family being killed in front of his eyes, but way more atrocious things that I will not develop. It is quite a common theme, but I liked how it was developed later. I am not going to spoil if anyone wants to watch it. I really love the song for its lyrics that are heartbreaking when you know Goblin Slayer’s past, and I have one sentence that made me think and question some elements of my life: We all aim for happiness Though our paths may diverge Moreover, the song is not derived from pop or rock as we can usually hear in Japanese animes – it has a kind of gospel, almost spiritual vibe? The female singing chorus gives me chills, even though this is not my favourite genre. I feel strangely drawn into it.

Fall 2018 First Impressions
It’s a new season which means new shows which means impressions of the shows I picked up after 3 episodes. I’ve picked up quite a few more shows this season than I usually do. So I’ve either been really bored, or there’s a pretty good selection of exciting new shows. Let’s take a look.
Zombieland Saga
There was a bit of quiet excitement for this show before it came out, and it had unexpectedly good reviews coming out of a private prescreening. So what’s the show about? Well zombies being idols of course. Yes, you were tricked into watching an idol show and now you’re actually loving it. It’s not a traditional idol show by any counts because the first episode was metal, and then the 2nd episode had a rap battle, and so on. I’ll admit the 3rd episode was a bit disappointing compared to the first two but it was still enjoyable. There’s a lot of questions for the show going forward, but so far I’ve really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend giving it a go.
Goblin Slayer
The first episode came out and this was the hottest show to talk about. Not exactly because the first episode was so amazing, but because it was very controversial and contained some graphic sexual imagery (adventurer being raped by goblins). The show is unsurprisingly about an adventurer that goes and slays goblins, and so far that’s really it. The story is loosely based off of the author’s many years of role playing games and it shows a lot in the world too. You’re basically watching an animated DnD campaign. After the edge got toned down from the first episode it’s a reasonable but not particularly noteworthy fantasy show.
Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai
I still don’t know what people are calling this show short hand, so I’m gonna go with Bunny Senpai. The comparisons to Monogatari and Oregairu are apt, but do sell the show sort of its own charm. One thing the show really has going for it is that by the 3rd episode it has already finished its first arc which gives you a really good idea of what exactly you’re going to get for the rest of the show. There isn’t a lot of wasted time on needless things, and the chemistry/banter between the two leads has been good so far. If you’re looking for a character based drama/romance/something than this is a solid pick. I’m definitely excited to see how the show ends up.
Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken
I’ve been reincarnated as a slime has been a surprising treat. Going in I was expecting “just another Isekai with a twist” but it’s done quite a bit to set itself apart from the rest of the pack. The premise is pretty fun, it’s got a bright and colorful animation style, and the studio is making excellent use of digital effects in the production. So far it’s been a charming adventure of a slime consuming the world it comes across and assimilating it all and learning new skills. The world seems to be heavily based off of RPGs and the OST plays into that with some great classic video gamesque music. This is quite the fun Isekai and I’d give it a go if you were looking for something a little more light hearted.
JoJo part 5: Vento Aureo
Are you watching JoJo? If you’re not you really should be. Since this is the 5th entry into a series I’m not really gonna be trying to convince you to pick up JoJo since there’s quite a bit to see before this, so I’m just gonna comment on how good it is. David Pro has knocked it out of the park with Vento Aureo. The animation is exceptional, the stands look so good animated, really everything is good so far. The ED caught me off guard so hard, but I’m loving it now lol. It’s been so long since I’ve read part 5, and part of what I read was the not as great scanlations so there are large parts of the show that I’ve completely forgotten or were sort of unclear when I read it. Getting to see those animated is going to be at treat.
SSSS.Gridman
Trigger’s show for the season has got me really excited. It’s a mecha that pays homage to the classics but with a good modern touch the to animation style and character designs. I’m not really sure how to describe this show tbh. There are mecha, kaiju, the over the top Trigger touch, and so on. Understanding the historical context of the show as well as some of the directing choices really made me appreciate the show a lot more. So I’m going to leave a link to Sakugabooru’s production notes for the first two episodes. It was a very insightful read. I wasn’t entirely sold after the first episode, but it’s been growing on my steadily. Having a great time with this one so far.
Sakugabooru post
Release the Spyce
Did you watch Yuru Yuri and think to yourself this is pretty swell, but what if they were spies that got pseudo super speed/agility by eating spices. Then I have the show for you. Character designs are done by Namori and I want to say the director worked on Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero. So far it’s been cute and fluffy as you’d expect from something Namori is working on, but the content itself actually goes really hard. There have been drug rings, brothels, military smuggling, illegal pharmaceuticals, and so on. I’m actually sort of expecting this one to end up quite a bit darker than it has started out. Also the OST is amazing and just throws out trap and dubstep bangers during fight scenes. It was so unexpected but it really adds so much to the aesthetic of the show. Definitely excited to watch more of this.
Skull faced Bookseller Honda-San
And to round things out I’ve got a short at the end of the list. The show is about Honda and his colleagues that work at a bookstore and their daily adventures of dealing with customers, sales people, and all the daily tasks of running a retail store. I suspect that if you’ve worked in retail, or more specifically a bookstore, this will be extra funny. Even if you haven’t it’s a good laugh.
And that’s it! This one got a little long, but I hope you enjoy it or something.
#text#it's a lot of shows#i'm not gonna tag them all#I got kind of tired halfway through#so I started writing less and less#anyways they are pretty good shows this season#watch them#or don't#that's up to you#slime is probably the biggest surprise#i'm enjoying that a lot more than I was expecting to#long post#review

Shallow Dive: The Rising of the Shield Hero First Cour
The Rising of the Shield Hero has its entire premise be fuelled by a false rape allegation made by a woman. While it works in the sense of the plot, the overall execution is sloppy and doesn’t do the first episode any real favors. Frankly, Goblin Slayer did the whole “controversial opener’ far better. You either agree with all of that, or you don’t.
Ok, now that I’ve ripped off that bandaid, let’s talk about the best anime (so far) of the year. My thoughts on the first cour of The Rising of the Shield Hero are just after the cut.
If Isekai Slime has taught me anything, is that I need to be careful with heaping praise on a show that is only halfway done. While Slime started strong and had great moments, the remaining second half was never able to recapture those highs and overall seemed to meander to the finish line. I still like Slime and I love that first half, but I fear I should have held back my praise just a little bit until the whole picture was done. Yet once again I find myself in a difficult position because so far, Shield Hero has been an EXTREMELY fun ride.
In a sense, Shield Hero and Slime can be seen as sister series, in that both are adapted from light novels that are already completed, and both represent a standard Isekai experience but polished to a mirror shine. Yet while Slime was seemingly content in being the usual “shut-in loser becomes the god-king” story, Shield Hero opts to try something new within a familiar formula, and though Shield Hero has all the markings of standard Isekai, Naofumi’s journey has so far been different enough that it helps the show stand out.
While Shield Hero is not the Isekai break-down that has propelled ReZero to a masterpiece work (and a second season!) in my eyes, Shield Hero is at least not afraid to throw a bit of mud in the face of expectations among viewers. Naofumi’s struggles and how he deals with a nation who has turned his back on him are interesting (and controversial), but so far are things that have not been seen in mainstream Isekai anime before. His bitter attitude, to the point mannerism and overall distrust of everything around him, help set him apart from the myriad of other leads and helps paint a stark contrast between him and the other heroes, who believe that they are in a world that makes them gods.
Furthermore, the slow pace and “filler” episodes between waves have been excellent in building up character and atmosphere. Like Slime before it, having 25 episodes gives this show time to establish a world that too often other anime either ignore or blitz right through. The relationship between Naofumi and Raphtalia feels real as it can be in a show like this, with enough time spent building it up that it can feel understandable why she is so loyal to him. Both she and the adorable Filo are so far fun characters that help lighten up a show that could have just been Naofumi being an emo edgelord the whole time. Additionally, the show has a killer OST that feels lifted right from a golden age JRPG game, and the use of game mechanics feels built into the world and not something that was just thrown in there for kicks.
Twelve episodes in and I am loving The Rising of the Shield Hero, but I am withholding full judgment until the second half concludes, though I am confident it is not going to suffer the same lack half that Slime did. So far the show hasn’t had it’s “Shizu moment” and there is plenty of room left for it to hit greater heights. It is fully possible that Shield Hero fizzles out in the next half which would be a shame for an anime that is already going to end up on several “best of” lists at the end of 2019. With my expectations firmly in check, I head into the second cour hoping to continue the great ride I’ve had so far. If you have not watched this show because of the (admittedly sloppy) first episode, I highly suggest you give it another chance. This is a really great Isekai anime and deserves to be more than what it’s pilot episode tries to do.

if you want: (copy-pasting from my previous review cause it didn’t change) well, it’s BNHA lmao / amazing animation / amazing music / shounen / superpowers and heroes / to have a good fucking time
BNHA S1 (x) BNHA S2 (x)
Going to keep this very short as I’ve said most of what I wanted in my previous 2 reviews.
This season specifically, felt a tiny bit less satisfactory as the other 2. Not by much, and considering how much I liked the first 2 seasons it’s difficult to live up to that quality anyway.
My main problem stems from how the 2 arcs, this season shows us, are the polar opposites of each other. The first half of season 3 literally gave me about 30 heart attacks. It was really wild, full of twists and turns and despite the pressure it put on my already deteriorating mental health, it was enjoyable in a way a wild roller coaster is. As opposed to this, the second arc had basically no stakes, or at least, they paled in comparison to the arc beforehand. We also get introduced to a buttload of people who we don’t know when they will show up again or how much relevancy they’ll have in the future. As opposed to (2), the first arc, where we also got introduced to quite a lot of new characters, however we knew why they were there and how much importance they have to the story.
Well, anyway. I really enjoyed this season depsite its disjointed nature and am looking forward to season 4! WhoHOOO [8/10] (x)
Recommend: HELL Yeah! | Yes | Eh??? | Nope | This anime killed my parents
if you want: Dark Fantasy / you like Fantasy but want something a bit different
Goblin Slayer was last year’s Fall Season’s second most popular original anime (according to MAL ratings at least).
I’m going to be honest...I don’t watch isekai or medieval fantasy stuff. The tropes bore me to absolute deah: an OP and basically undefeatable main character, the same exact fantasy characters with the same exact characterizations (elves, dwarves), the same class systems etc. Every single anime in these genres look the exact same with different characters. So, I was gonna pass by Goblin Slayer as well as usual however everyone was saying how DIFFERENT it was and that you NEED to watch the first episode.
So, I gave in. Was it worth it? No. You know what makes this anime so DIFFERENT? Scroll down to the anime information. Rated: R - 17+. That’s all you need to understand what’s different about this. Still, if you wanna watch the first episode without spoilers then leave now.
Goblin Slayer is a Dark Fantasy. Dark, because it has a lot of blood, bones crunching, gore and, of course, rape. Everything dark needs rape! Oh, whatever would we do without including women getting their bodies used by ugly creatures!
So yes, that’s literally why everyone likes Goblin Slayer, cause it’s edgy. There, I said it. The first episode starts out quite normal; a group of young, inexperienced adventurers decide to go into a cave and slay some goblins. Their team consist of a male warrior, a female mage, a female priest and a female melee fighter. About halfway through is where we’re hit with the EDGE. Goblins ambush them, steal one of the girls, rape another one and tear the guy to pieces. The priestess tries to escape and then runs into some guy decked out in armour: the Goblin Slayer.
After the ordeal is over, the Priestess joins Goblin Slayer in his adventures. Later on we’re joined by 3 new characters: a High Elf, a Dwarf and a Lizard. They say they’re some kind of ambassadors or something...but that’s never brought up again.
If you’re wondering why I’m calling them by their classes and races, that’s because they don’t have names. And I legit didn’t even notice until I just checked Wikipedia like 2 seconds ago. I guess it’s fitting cause not only do they lack names but also a personality.
The anime shows us a few nice fight scenes that usually take up 1 and a half episode. They aren’t really anything special but nice enough to watch and they keep your attention. However, between every fight there’s 1 episode of filler. Filler! In a 12 episode anime! And they’re fucking boring!
The art isn’t anything to write home about, the fight scenes are usually nice enough but everything else is painfully average. The music would be the only thing that I liked. While quite generic, they work really well with the scenes. The OP and the ED are especially nice.
And that’s the problem! The OP and the first episode are the ONLY good things about this, everything else is just dull. This anime was a solid 3/10 for almost the whole runtime but it managed to save its butt in the finale which is why my current rating is a bit higher.
If you like Dark Fantasy or are intrigued I’d suggest watching the first episode. None of the eps after come even close to that and the way it was structured it works as an OVA by itself. [4/10] (x)
Recommend: HELL Yeah! | Yes | Eh??? | Nope | This anime killed my parents
if you want: supernatural background story / mild horror due to some deaths / a nice mystery with a lot of plot twists that keeps you on your toes
“Another” is a 12 episode supernatural horror mystery that aired in 2012.
Our story starts with a guy named Sakakibara who has to move to Yamamiya, the town his parents grew up in. Due to some health problems, we start out with him in the hospital where he meets a girl with an eyepatch who introduces herself as Misaki Mei. After starting his 9th year in high school a month late, he once again runs into this girl in class but no one seems to react to her presence. As time goes on, Sakakibara’s classmates’ weird behaviour makes him confused and he wonders what’s going on. “Another” follows Class 3-3′s supernatural happenings and the story surrounding it.
“Another” is a really difficult anime to talk about and I’ll get to why in a second. But first, I will delve into the 3 genres I listed above and how the anime executes them.
The supernatural element was handled in a way that I found quite refreshing. The whole anime is enveloped by supernatural happenings and a strange atmosphere. However, instead of focusing on finding out the source of the weird events and trying to stop it at its core, “Another” handles it if it’s just a fact of life in the town and for our characters. While it can be said that the supernatural elements are simply lazy tropes to create a story without having to explain it deeper, I didn’t feel the need for it to be further expanded upon.
There isn’t much to say about the horror in “Another”. I guess the creepy atmosphere would be listed under this category but besides that the only horror-ish things happening are somewhat gruesome deaths. Even then, while the ways characters die is...not pretty, there’s mostly just a shitton of blood but nothing in particular made me too uncomfortable.
Lastly, is the meat of the story and the whole reason I ended up enjoying “Another” as much as I did despite my initial thoughts. The anime starts out a bit slow with a lot of silent scenes and long drawn-out shots for the sake of the atmoshpere. I don’t like slow anime so I was worried that I’ll be bored out of my mind but thankfully the mystery saved it. I know that opinions on this plot device are a bit divided but I thoroughly enjoy plot twists. The kind that I couldn’t see coming. Not to toot my own horn or anything but a lot of media usually builds upon one, singular huge plot twist and I figure them out pretty early on so they aren’t that enjoyable when they actually happen.
Well, “Another” very smartly leads you on with MULTIPLE plot twists. And these don’t come out of left field either. The anime drops slight hints for a lot of things and you need to follow everything and everyone pretty closely to catch all the small details.
My only problem would be with the ending which was a bit...well. It clashed with the established tone of the anime and felt a bit rushed. I understood the intention behind what happens however I think it could’ve been handled better. Some plot holes also remain by the end but the final plot twist was so HUGE, I really didn’t care at the time.
To wrap up, the technical stuff. The animation is well done with a few wonky shots and angles but nothing major. The OST itself is also pretty good, serves as a good backdrop for the scenes and does its job. The OP and the ED are probably the most disappointing musically. The OP doesn’t really fit the tone of the anime (although you get weirdly fond of it by the end) and the ED is a very generic ballad.
All in all, I enjoyed “Another” much more than I thought I would and was an intriguing ride all the way through. If you enjoy stories with uncovering mysteries, and aren’t bothered by blood and supernatural involvements, I’d suggest watching this. [8/10] (x)
Recommend: HELL Yeah! | Yes | Eh??? | Nope | This anime killed my parents

Emotionally? In Secondary school, in year 8 I asked a girl I liked out, she took 2 weeks to answer (she said no) by this time most of the school had found out I asked her out (though only my year cared), and they teased me for it, this escalated until they basically mocked and bullied me for showing human emotion (which I started suppressing around year 9 due to this) all the way until year 11 by which time I was for the most part emotionally incapable and I barely had a presence (which made it seem to other like I could “disappear” and “reappear” when in actuality I was just walking off - I was bullied for this too). Music is such a wonderful thing. I shudder to think of where ai might be in life if I didn’t have it as an escape.
Haha, in fact, let me go and talk about something I never planned for this post to be: my journey through YouTube’s music.
I was younger then, an eighth grade who listened primarily to classical music. Around that time, I discovered My Little Pony (yeah, hate me, it was still a fun show and more of a guilty pleasure for someone who struggled making friends). Now, I did keep tabs on the show but I was primarily dragged into the fanfics (I LOVE READING!) and its music.
So who did I find? Two awesome people that I still listen to: Aviators and 4Everfreebrony. I also loved Aftermath, but they fell off the earth a long time ago. There’s also The Living Tombstone. Fell in love with Discord from him, although I found out much later that it was a remix! From a Eurobeat producer called Odyssey.
Now, I’ll get to Eurobeat in a bit, because I got into that too. First, I’d also love to talk about some games that I played that pulled me deeper into the music corner of YouTube. Deemo. Cytus. And VOEZ.
These are three apps developed by a company called Rayark. Love their work, and love the music in these rhythm games. I particularly played them to death in the summer of 2016 or 2017. Had a massive headache for months during that time, so I stayed in bed reading and playing these games.
Searching for songs in the games on YouTube drove me to Eurobeat for Touhou of all things. Which I liked. Never could find that mix again, though….
But that’s not when I started truly listening to Eurobeat! Nope! Instead, we need to fast forward another year to when I got into Rewrite! A visual novel by Key Visual Studios.
I’ve always loved video game soundtracks, being a Zelda nut and all, but this game sold me. So much so that I spent like $300 to help support its western release. Great game, fantastic story, and phenomenal music. Listen to Koibumi/Love Letter if you ever get the chance. There’s a few different versions too, with the more classical version being my favorite~ Scene Shifts There is fucking heart wrenching too.
Around that time I started loving video game music even more, along with anime OSTs too. Xenoblade is another one of my favorites, and I love the work of Hiroyuki Sawano.
So…anime, right? Well, I at some point was wanting to find that Eurobeat mix I was talking about. Touhou. Eurobeat. What more to search to find it? Well, several years of backlog meant a lot.
But I found someone by the name of T. Stevie’s who did fantastic Touhou Eurobeat! And his alter ego? Odyssey.
So yeah, that was fun. My friend told me Initial D had even more, so I went all in. And now I’m here! Mostly. Sometime down the road to here I also discovered a few others!
Vocaloid music I found: Rachie, Jubyphonic, LeeAndLie, Crusher P, Circus P, Creep P, Jayney, Yusuke Kira, REOL, etc.
Bands I started listening to recently: The Killers, Pink Floyd, Modest Mouse, Ninja Sex Party (Honestly really good), Fallout Boy, Of Monsters and Men, Watsky, Mystery Skulls (Found by listening to a cover by Ken Ashcorp)
An artist I fell in love with due to Deemo: Mili, known for their work on Ender Lilies, Goblin Slayer, and Library of Ruina now.
Avicii has been awesome as well~ Gah…there’s just too many great artists out there, and you never can truly find out if you like them if you don’t listen. Too many artists also don’t get their time to shine because they’re not well known or too well known.
So many that I listen to but just can’t remember. Anyway, my last recommendation is TheFatRat. Sorry for the long post, and I promise to make an even longer one whenever I get around to talking about my journey into anime and novels.
Who would have thought I’d have such diverse tastes after listening to purely classical music just seven or so years ago.
Also, thanks to Pukicho for making me realize (mainly just from listening to their music) how much you can’t judge music until you properly listen to it. Love his music to.
…Okay, I swear this is the last thing. ADHD makes me just keep remembering more music. Duet. A fantastic app with fantastic music. Now, I’m going to sleep knowing 90% of people who read this stopped at MLP, and that barely anyone will see this. Woo!

Goblin Slayer - Thoughts
Well, that certainly... happened.
If you don’t like the show, that doesn’t make you some “radical liberal SJW” or whatever, and if you like the show, you’re alright too (as long as it’s for the right reasons).
I finished this show thinking to myself, “This... is this what everyone was hyped about? Really? This show? Uh... I think we can do better.”
Tumblr’s gonna end up flagging me no matter what, but I’m gonna try to keep this SFW for the most part.
My last post on this series was flagged. I’ll say that much. They literally took it off the face of this earth. Dude, I work hard writing these things you know. I even put trigger warnings, other warnings, and I toned it down. There were no images either. *grumbles*
Hopefully, this won’t get flagged, but basically, this show has a shocking first episode full of violence then forgets about most of it and becomes a harem.
Story and Characters
There isn’t a whole lot here. The characters are one-dimensional. The story is about a squad slaying Goblins. That’s about it. What you see is what you get, and you don’t receive much else.
Art
It was okay. They wanted to give this more of an “innocent” vibe which is why they went for the brighter colour-scheme I think? The fight scenes were okay. With little to no substance story-wise, I hardly think they can create a fight worth the hype. And honestly, the art was mediocre at best.
Sound
I didn’t care much for any of the music because no music can save this show. Yuki Kajiura made a good OST for SAO, but that certainly didn’t save the show. It’s kind of sad that I couldn’t appreciate Kenichiro Suehiro’s OST since he is quite accomplished and is known for his scores in Re:Zero, Cells at Work, and Golden Kamuy. I think he did a nice job with Cells at Work, but that’s because I enjoyed the anime too. I’m looking forward to hearing his OST tracks in Golden Kamuy and Re:Zero.
Voice acting was such a shame because even Yuuichiro Umehara said, “I only say a few lines. He doesn’t talk much.” Yui Ogura does okay... I mean, when you have no substance to the character, what can a voice actor really do? I haven’t heard Umehara or Ogura in much else besides a few short series here and there. I was expecting this to be the series that made me go, “Whoa, they’ve got talent.” There wasn’t really much of that. The rest of the cast is pretty well-known including names like Nao Touyama, Yuuichi Nakamura, Tomokazu Sugita, Yoko Hikasa, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Maaya Uchida, Aya Endou, and Yuka Eguchi. But again, if you don’t have a good story (which involves many components in itself) and good characters with a good script, your voice actors can’t save much. Even Osomatsu had some okay jokes from time to time. This show was just an utter pile of monotonous edgy garbage.
